LOIS FISCHER
On Friday, April 4, 2008. Lois was born in Pittsburgh, PA and raised in McKees Rocks, PA. As an Army wife, she accompanied her husband on numerous tours of duty through Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand and various parts of the United States. After her husband's retirement from the Army, she again traveled the United States with him while he worked for Amoco Oil Company. One of her greatest joys was being a grandmother to Morgan and Taylor. Preceded in death by her devoted husband, Col. Richard Fischer, U.S. Army (Ret). She was the mother of Ann (Thanh) NGUYEN, Michael (Tricia) Fischer and Carolyn (Lars HELGERT) Fischer; grandmother of Morgan and Taylor Fischer; sister of Jean (Robert) BUTTER and Carol GLANTZ. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, VA on Friday, April 11, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, April 12 at 12 Noon at St. Louis Catholic Church, 2907 Popkins Lane, Alexandria.

RICHARD L. FISCHER
Richard L. Fischer, 78, a retired Army colonel and lobbyist for the Amoco oil company, died of congestive heart failure Dec. 29 at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital. He lived in Alexandria.
Col. Fischer was vice president of government affairs for an oil industry trade group for 14 years until his retirement in 1992. He served in the Army from 1949, when he was an enlisted soldier, to 1977, when he retired after turning down a promotion to brigadier general because he was tired of moving. Born in McKees Rocks, Pa., Col. Fischer was scouted while in high school by Ohio State University. From 1946 to 1952, he played minor league baseball for the Boston Braves farm system. He was appointed to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point while playing ball but turned down the appointment, got married and enlisted. After four years, he entered the air defense artillery and was commissioned through the Officer Candidate School at Fort Bliss, Tex. Some of his first assignments were in Japan, as an artillery battery commander and assistant division commander. In 1962, he became the intelligence adviser to the chief of the Royal Thai Army in Bangkok, where he commanded a counterinsurgency field exercise involving 11 battalion combat teams, 14,000 troops and paramilitary forces. In 1966, he graduated from what is now Park University in Parkville, Mo. In 1972, he was promoted to colonel, graduated from the U.S. Army War College and received a master's degree in mass communications from Shippensburg State College in Carlisle, Pa.
He served as chief of the Senate Liaison Division for the secretary of defense from 1974 to 1977. His work as a Washington lobbyist included briefing senators daily on the oil industry. He served on several business- and industry-related committees and on Meridian House International's board of governors. His military awards included the Legion of Merit medal.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois STREINER Fischer of Alexandria; three children, Ann Fischer NGUYEN of Alexandria, Michael Fischer of Potomac Falls and Carolyn Fischer of Alexandria; and two granddaughters.

KENNETH J. FLEWELLING
Memorial services for former Baldwinsville resident Kenneth J. Flewelling, 85, who died Monday in Windsor, Vt., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Hanover, N.H. A native of McKees Rocks, Pa., Mr. Flewelling lived in Baldwinsville during World War II and moved to Grantham, N.H., in 1948. He was a 1930 graduate of the New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse and was employed with the National Park Service before returning to Syracuse. During the war years he was a factory worker in Syracuse. After the war, Mr. Flewelling developed a natural recreation area in Grantham that he called Sherwood Forest.
While at the forestry college, Mr. Flewelling was a member of the Robin Hood Society and Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. He also was editor of the Empire Forester. Surviving are his wife, the former Ramona E. BENTLEY; three sons, J. David of Wappingers Falls, the Rev. F. Lauren of
Somerville, Mass. and Bruce K. of Rochester; six grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. CATHERINE HANEY FLUHARTY
On Sunday, January 23, 1938, Catherine Haney Fluharty, wife of Luther E. Fluharty of 623 Woodward Avenue, McKees Rocks, formerly of Coraopolis. Funeral from McDermott Bros., 531 Chartiers avenue, McKees Rocks, on Wednesday, January 26 at 8:30a.m. Requiem at St Francis De Sales Church at 9 o'clock.

Albert Lawrence Fogarty, 91, of Somerset, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008, at Pickering House in Lancaster, OH. He was born Sept. 21, 1916, in McKees Rocks, Pa. He was a heavy equipment operator for Peabody Coal Co., a 56-year member of the Knights of Columbus, 1065 past Grand Knight -4th degree, 50-year member of Bishop Fenwick 812, member of Elk's 509 of New Lexington, Somerset Lions Club and served as past president and a member of St Joseph's Catholic Church, were he served as a Eucharist minister and member of the finance committee. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sophie KOCAY Fogarty, whom he married Oct. 12, 1940; his children, Albert "Butch" (Emily) Fogarty of New Lexington and James (Vickie) Fogarty of Thornville; Sister Joan Fogarty OSF of Dublin; a son-in-law, Richard STARNER of New Lexington; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; George Thomas and Margaret HOWELLS Fogerty; a daughter, Betty G. Starner; a son, William Richard; sisters, Alice KASPER and Marg MURAN; and brothers, Howard, Thomas and George Fogerty. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 24, at the Chute-Wiley Funeral Home, 118 S. Jackson St., with Elk's services at 7 p.m., Rosary and Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 5757 Ohio 383 NE, Somerset, with Monsignor William Maroon and Father Joseph A. Breen as celebrants. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's cemetery.

MARIE FONTANA
On Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, Marie, age 64 of Stowe Twp, daughter of Anna Fontana, mother of Vince WINDSHEIMER; sister of Patsy Fontana and Eleanor HOOPER; also survived by 3 grandchildren. MICHAEL POPIAK
Michael Popiak, 89, of Syracuse, died Monday, October 15, 2007 at Iroquois Nursing Home. Mr. Popiak was born in McKees Rocks, PA and had lived in Syracuse since 1950. He retired in 1980 from Crouse- Hinds where he worked as a machinist for 22 years. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. He also was a member of the SURMA Men's Choir and the Ukrainian National Home. Survivors: two daughters, Pearl and Anna Popiak both of Syracuse; one grandson, Justin Michael VEGA; his ex-wife, Anna Popiak MET of Syracuse; two brothers, Iwan and Symon Sydor both of Ukraine; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday, 9:30 a.m. from the MACKO-VASSALLO FUNERAL HOME and 10 a.m. in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 1609 W. MARGARET J. (SACHEK) POPULO
Age 73 of McKees Rocks after a brief illness, on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, beloved wife of Joseph Populo Sr.; loving mother of Maureen (Dennis) Populo BARCHESKI and Joseph Populo Jr.; dear grandmother of Taryn (Barcheski) Price, Kiley Barcheski, Cayla Barcheski, Robert & Michael Populo; also two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Populo was a 60 year devoted member and was currently President of the American Legion Post #618 Auxiliary and past president of the Allegheny County Council Auxiliary. She worked for Claffey's of Fifth Ave. in Pgh. for over 50 years and recently for Hair Fashions by Howard located in downtown Pittsburgh. JOHN A. POSCH
Age 88, of McKees Rocks, on Friday, December 22, 2006; beloved husband of the late Mathilda (NORKUS); loving father of Julianna (Chuck) KUCHTA, Patricia (Dennis) MORRISON; dear grandfather of Victoria Morrison; brother of the late Rosina ROSNER, Julia SARGENT, Joseph and Carl Posch; loving uncle of Ruth Ann (Tom) DONNELLY and Robert (Ann) Posch; loving companion of Elizabeth ANDREWS; also survived by many other nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. ANN PRESNAR
Ann Presnar, 93, of 1416 Wilson Ave. died the morning of Sept. 28, 2008, in Jameson Hospital. Born Nov. 10, 1914, in McKees Rocks, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Josephine Gubernot ZUBKOUSKY. She was married for 48 years to Edward J. Presnar. He preceded her in death Sept. 11, 1998. Ann was a loving homemaker for her husband and children. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, watching TV reality shows, soap operas and traveling. Ann also enjoyed her friends very much. Ann was Roman Catholic and a former member of Madonna Church, where she belonged to the Ambassador Club. She belonged to Mary, Mother of Hope Parish. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Raymond E. Presnar and Larry A. and Mary Ann Presnar, all of New Castle; and two brothers, John Zubkousky of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Walter Zubkousky of Indiana, Pa. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis Zubkousky and Steve Zubkousky; and three sisters, Helen SINES, Sophie Vincent and Mary PILCH. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Noga Funeral Home, Inc., 1142 S. Mill Street. A procession will leave the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow for St. Mary Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. The Rev. Victor Molka, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Madonna cemetery.

DOLORES "DOLLY" PRESUTTI
On Thursday, November 6, 2008. Dolly, age 88, of Kennedy Twp. Wife of William Presutti, Sr.; mother of William (Jennifer) and Donald Presutti; sister of Joseph VASSEL, Dominic "Moe", Anthony, Alex VASSELO, Florence CUSANO, Linda RIST and the late James Vassel, Nick and Felix Vasselo, Mary Tucker and Lena VENENZIO; grandmother of Bill, Cindy, Darin, Christina, Donnie, and Laura; great grandmother of Jacob, Justin, Tyler and Cara. She was a dedicated volunteer for nearly 50 years at Mother of Sorrows and St. John of God Parishes. Friends received at the ANTHONY M. MUSMANNO FUNERAL HOME, 700 7th Street, McKees Rocks, PA. Funeral Mass in St. John of God Parish, The Church at St. Mary's on Monday, 9:30am. Visitation Saturday, 6 to 8 pm and Sunday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm.

VINCENT MARIO GARGARO
Vincent Mario Gargaro, 84, of Stowe Township died Sunday, March 23 2003. He was born Oct. 23, 1919, in Stowe, a son of the late Angelo and Mary PALMIERI Gargaro. Mr. Gargaro was the last of the musically-gifted Gargaro brothers. He and his brothers, Isadore and Anthony, supported their parents, funded their educations and entertained their family and friends at weddings, night clubs and Italian feasts with their accordion, trumpet and saxophone for many years. He was a member of the University of Pittsburgh marching band from 1936-40 and was part of three generations of Pitt alumni band members. He and his brothers served in U.S. Air Corp. and Army during World War II. He continued his service until he retired as a major in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He was known as the voice of the weather band until his retirement in 1980 from National Weather Service as a meteorologist. He was a member of the American Meteorologist Society, West Hills Symphony, University of Pittsburgh Alumni Band, West Park Firemen’s Band, Knights of Columbus, Villeta Barred Club, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Italian American War Veterans, Boy Scouts, Boys Club and the Lions Club. Survivors include: his wife, Elva CONNOR Gargaro; three children, Deborah HOLMES, Vince and Tom Gargaro; three sisters, Bernadette, Dora and Lita; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild ; and many aunts, nieces and nephews. Arrangements were handled by Sanvito’s McKees Rocks where a funeral service was held in the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at Mother of Sorrows Church with Father Larry Smith officiating. Burial was in Resurrection cemetery.
