PAUL R. CLAPPER
HAMBURG, Pa. - Paul R. Clapper, 78, of 419 N. Sixth St., Hamburg, died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since June 24.
He was the husband of Elizabeth A. (Nies) Clapper.

Born in Hyndman, Bedford County, he was a son of the late Reuben K. and Elizabeth A. (Crocker) Clapper.

Mr. Clapper served for 15 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a major in 1959. He was a veteran of World War II.

He was last employed for 25 years by Luden's Inc., Reading, as a general foreman, retiring in 1984.

He was a professional pitcher in the former New York Giants farm system.

Clapper was a graduate of Hyndman High School.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg.

He is also survived by a son, Dr. Mark F. Clapper, Coronado, Calif.

Other survivors include a brother, Rod, Buffalo Mills, Bedford County; and four grandsons.

Services will be held on Tuesday, July 28, at 1:30 p.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg.

Burial will follow in St. John's cemetery, Hamburg.

Leibensperger Funeral Homes Inc., Hamburg, is in charge of arrangements.

DELFORD S. "DELL" BURKETT
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Delford S. "Dell" Burkett, 63, of RD 1, Hyndman, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Dec. 24, 1934, in Tiger Valley, Londonderry Township, Bedford County, he was the son of the late Otto T. and Sarah M. (Clites) Burkett. He also was preceded in death by three sisters, Hilda Hengst, Emma Donahue and Thelma Miller.

On March 7, 1953, in Ellerslie, Md., he married Alvenia B. "Beanie" Weaverling. She survives along with a son, Delford A. "Buck" Burkett, of Frostburg, Md.; a daughter, Judy L., wife of Raymond G. Leavitt, of RD 1, Hyndman; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Evelyn Elliott, of RD 1, Hyndman, Dorothy Leydig, of Somerset, and Helen Robosson, of Hyndman.

Mr. Burkett was a self-employed contractor and a member of the Bible Gospel Church, Hyndman.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fay E. Leydig and the Rev. R. George Loar officiating.

Interment will be in the Hyndman cemetery.

WILLIAM D. "BILL" CRAWFORD
HYNDMAN, Pa. - William D. "Bill" Crawford, 83, of Hyndman, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Orange Park Medical Center, Orange Park, Fla.
Born Nov. 26, 1914, at Hyndman, he was a son of the late Howard Crawford and Blanche (Browning) Crawford Shaffer. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie R. (Emerick) Crawford, on Dec. 3, 1994; his step-father, David Shaffer; a sister, Mary Gibson; a brother, Joseph Emerick; and a half-sister, Shirley Beck.

Surviving are two sons, William D. Crawford, Jr., and wife, Alvina, Middleburg, Fla., and Roger L. Crawford and wife, Sharon, Buffalo Mills RD; a daughter, Carol Ann Freeland and husband, Keith, Norfolk, Va.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Donovan Shaffer, Lititz, Pa., and Charles Crawford, Greencastle, Pa.; and two half-sisters, Debra Weller, Warfordsburg, Pa., and Madeline Kerns, Hancock.

Mr. Crawford retired with 40 years of employment as a blacksmith with the B & O Railroad in the Cumberland area.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James L. Deremer officiating. Interment will be in Comps cemetery.

THOMAS A. BOGER
MEYERSDALE, Pa. - Thomas Allen Boger, 44, of Meyersdale, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, Ill.
Born Oct. 3, 1953, in Meyersdale, he was a son of Homer S. and Zona (Mazer) Boger, of Meyersdale.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, the former Cherie P. Porter, and two children, Thomas A., Jr., and Sarah, both at home. He was a brother of Karen H., wife of Robert H. McIver, Owensboro, Ky., and William H. Boger, married to the former Janie Shumaker, Meyersdale. Also surviving are in-laws, Elwood T. and Shelba Porter, Meyersdale; sisters-in-law, Vicki, wife of Larry VanMeter, Woodbridge, Va., and Wendy, wife of Larry Bartley, Manassas, Va.; brother-in-law, George Porter, married to the former Monica Deal, Meyersdale; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Boger was a rural postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Garrett and Rockwood. He was a member of the Grace Independent Bible Church, White Oak, where he served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher.

Friends will be received at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Thomas E. Horner officiating.

Interment will be in the White Oak cemetery, Meyersdale.

ELIZABETH CAPALDI
ORLANDO, Fla. - Elizabeth B. Capaldi, 84, of Orlando, formerly of Cumberland, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, in Columbia Park Medical Center, Orlando.
She was born Oct. 16, 1913, in Williamsport, Pa., the daughter of the late Antonio and Paulene Mary (Geiger) Finz. She also was preceded in death by one brother.

Surviving are her husband, Dr. William Capaldi; one sister; one step-son, Robert Capaldi, Fairfield, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Charles A. Erzkus officiating.

Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

ROBERTA K. DAWSON
GIBSONIA, Pa. - Roberta Kathryn (Seitz) Dawson, 59, of Gibsonia, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at the Valley View Nursing Home, Cheswick, where she had been a resident for six days.
Born March 11, 1938, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Charles Seitz Jr. and Verna Virginia (Wagner) Seitz.

Mrs. Dawson had worked as a graphic artist at The Pentagon; had been an account manager for Kelly-Springfield; and also had been head cashier and service repair person at Sears.

She had belonged to the Belles and Beaus Square Dance Club, and was a volunteer at the Fipts Conservatory.

Survivors include her husband, Boyd S. Dawson; two sons, Mark S. Dawson and wife, Rita, Cumberland, and Bryan D. Dawson and wife, Leslie, Washington, D.C.; one daughter, Dianna Dawson, and Douglas Haynes, Frostburg; one brother, C. Fred Seitz and wife, Bettie, Waldorf, Md.; three grandchildren, Stephen, Andrea and Maegan Dawson; one great-grandson, Alex Creegan; and a granddaughter to be born in May, Hanna Renee Haynes.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Wendell Bohrer officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
