RETIRED SGT. 1ST CLASS WALTER F. DAULBAUGH
SUMMIT, Pa. - Retired Sergeant First Class Walter F. Daulbaugh, 72, of 13600 Dutrow Lane, Blue Ridge Summit, died at 12:30 a.m., Sunday, May 24, 1998, in the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md. He was in failing health for the past several years, although death was unexpected and attributed to a heart attack.
Born May 8, 1926, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Walter A. and Anna (Delaney) Daulbaugh. He lived his early life in Culpepper, Va.

Mr. Daulbaugh received his G.E.D. while serving in the military.

He and his wife of over 52 years, Mrs. Mildred N. (Shook) Daulbaugh, were married Aug. 4, 1945. They moved to their present residence in October 1968.

Mr. Daulbaugh served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, serving during World War II, in the European Theater and then serving in the Korean Conflict in the 451st Antitank with the 104th Infantry Division (Timber Wolves). He retired Feb. 1, 1965.

Mr. Daulbaugh was then employed with the Civil Service at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, Md., and later at Fort Ritchie, Cascade, Md., retiring in 1985.

He was a member of William Max McLaughlin V.F.W. Post 695, and the Waynesboro Coin Club, both of Waynesboro, and the U.S. Army Timber Wolves. He enjoyed collecting coins.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Cheryl A. Kreger, Rouzerville; three sons, Leonard F. Daulbaugh, Williamsport, Md., Alan W. Daulbaugh, Blue Ridge Summit, and Larry K. Daulbaugh, Frederick, Md.; and five grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 1998, in the Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with the Rev. Robert S. Edmundson officiating.

Graveside and military services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland, Md.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening in the funeral home.

EVA E. BITTNER
MEYERSDALE, Pa. - Eva Elizabeth Bittner, 75, of Meyersdale and Rawlings, Md., died Nov. 29, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Oct. 31, 1923, in Washington, D.C., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Edna (Spence) Kiser. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Woodrow Montgomery; and a sister, Jacqueline Kerrigan.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn A. Bittner; and two sons, Robert G., married to the former Maureen Morrissey, Virginia Beach, Va., and Joseph E., married to the former JoAnn Artino, East Hartford, Conn.; two grandchildren, Joy and Josiah.

She was a member of the St. Johns United Methodist Church. She was a former employee of Capital Airlines in Washington, D.C.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, with Pastor Craig Lyman and Pastor Ray Gnagey officiating.

Interment will be in St. Johns (Temple) cemetery, Meyersdale.

HARRY E. BITTNER
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Harry E. "Dick" Bittner, 49, of RD 1, Hyndman, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, in Cumberland Valley Township, Bedford County.
Born Oct. 23, 1948, in Summit Township, Somerset County, he was a son of Alzene (Kennell) Bittner Sweitzer, RD 1, Hyndman, and the late Harvey S. Bittner.

Surviving are his wife, the former Darlene N. Lewis, whom he married on June 26, 1976, in Kennells Mills; a brother, Allen E. Bittner and wife Kim, RD 1, Hyndman; three nephews, Michael Bittner, Columbus, Ohio, Jason Bittner and Derek Bittner, both of RD 1, Hyndman; a niece, Lisa Bittner, RD 1, Hyndman; and a special great-nephew, Shaine Bittner.

Mr. Bittner retired from the Defense Mapping Agency in Washington, D.C., following 17 years of employment.

He had served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. During his enlistment, he earned the expert rifleman's badge, became qualified as a senior instructor at Fort Belvoir, Va., and received numerous certificates of training and certificates of achievement.

He was an avid outdoorsman.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Henry L. Crissinger officiating. Interment will be in the Comps cemetery.

Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.

JANICE GRIEWAHN BEEBE
ERIE, Pa. - Janice Griewahn Beebe, 72, of 2323 Edinboro Road, Erie, formerly of 26 East College St., Frostburg, Md., died Saturday, March 28, 1998, at Forest View Nursing Center in Erie.
She was born in Erie on June 7, 1925, the daughter of the late William and Loretta Engle Griewahn.

She received her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. She was Professor of Chemistry, Emeritus, Frostburg State University of Maryland, where she taught for 32 years until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of the American Chemical Society and was co-author of "Chemistry Experiments for Instrumental Methods."

She enjoyed playing the organ, gardening, traveling and visiting state and national parks.

She was preceded in death in 1992 by her husband of 25 years, Dr. Palmer L. Beebe; and by a step-daughter, Nancy Newman, in 1997.

Survivors include a sister, Beverly Deininger, and her husband, James; a brother, Robert Griewahn, and his wife, Nancy; four nieces; two nephews; an aunt; a great-niece; a great-nephew; step-grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 2216 Peach St., in Erie, on Wednesday, April 1, at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Jerrold Caughlan will officiate.

Memorials may be made to the Palmer L. Beebe Chemistry Scholarship, c/o Frostburg Foundation, Frostburg State University, Frostburg, MD 21532; or to St. John's Lutheran Church.

FLORENCE L. CHRISTNER
SALISBURY, Pa. - Florence L. Christner, 98, of 120 Mineral St., Salisbury, formerly of Boynton, died Saturday, May 16, 1998, at her residence.
Born Dec. 2, 1899, in Summit Township, she was a daughter of the late John and Amanda (Murray) Brown. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert E. Christner, on March 15, 1971; three sons, Paul, Earl and Everett; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers, Maurice, Frank, Lloyd and Will Brown; and three sisters, Martha Miller Wheeling, Ella Winters and Annie Marteney.

Mrs. Christner was a charter member of the Cornerstone Assembly of God, Boynton, and was a homemaker.

Surviving are three daughter, Kathleen Gutowski and husband William, Moscow, Pa., Irene Ludy and husband Harry, Glencoe, Pa., and Janet Wahl and husband Ray, Jr., "Tex," Salisbury, with whom she resided; two daughters-in-law, Emogen Christner and Kathleen Christner, both of Salisbury; a brother, Clarence Brown; and a sister, Elizabeth Blocher, both of Salisbury; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Salisbury, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Garry L. Kipe officiating.

Interment will be in the Salisbury cemetery.

J. CURTIS DOM SR.
WELLERSBURG, Pa. -J. Curtis Dom Sr., 86, of Route 160, Wellersburg, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Sept. 21, 1912, in Wellersburg, he was a son of the late George W. and Mary Mabel (Suder) Dom.

Mr. Dom is survived by his wife of 60 years, Zelda Belle (Rizer), whom he married May 22, 1938; three sons, George W. "Bill," Philippi, W.Va., James C. Jr., married to Louise (Landis), Littlestown, Pa., and Bradley J., Wellersburg; two daughters, Marie Martz, Westminster, Md., and Anna Marriott, married to Richard, Fort Mill, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, George F., Hagerstown, Md., and John H., Meyersdale; and a sister, Grace A. Cook, Hyndman.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, George W. Dom Jr.; three brothers, Ray, Wilbert and Robert; and one sister, Anna Knippenberg.

Mr. Dom was retired from L.B. Smith Company where he had worked as a mechanic. He owned and operated Dom's Garage in Wellersburg for 12 years. He was a distributor of maple products for 41 years. For 16 years he demonstrated making maple candy at the Maryland State Fair in Timonium. He was a lifetime member of the Wellersburg Fire Department and the Barrelville Outdoor Club. Mr. Dom was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Maple Producers Association.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ken L. Korns officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Zion Lutheran and Reformed Church, Wellersburg.
