EDNA J. HARE
BELLE VERNON, Pa. - Edna Jane (Durst) Hare, 79, of Belle Vernon, formerly of Grantsville, Md., died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at her home.
Born May 18, 1918, in Grantsville, she was the daughter of the late Lee W. and Ruth (Patton) Durst. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Hare, in 1989.

Mrs. Hare is survived by one daughter, Donna Moskel, Belle Vernon; and two sisters, Emma Jean Kaefer, Grantsville, and Frances Means, Cumberland, Md.

Friends will be received at the Stumps Funeral Home, Belle Vernon, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.

MODESTINE ARNONE INGLESE
MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. - Modestine Arnone Inglese, 81, formerly of Eckhart and Chicago, died Saturday, May 31, 1997, at Merritt Island Hospital, Merritt Island, Fla.
Mrs. Inglese was born July 4, 1915.

Surviving are one grandson, Mark Inglese, Chicago; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Clay, Frostburg, and Olimpia Arnone, Rockledge, Fla.; and three brothers, Claude Arnone and Minotti Arnone, both of Merritt Island, and Enordo Arnone, Frostburg.

Florida Funeral Home, Cocoa, Fla., is in charge of the arrangements which are incomplete at this time.

JOYCE E. JOHNSON
ARTEMAS, Pa. - Joyce Elizabeth Johnson, 62, of Artemas, died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born March 4, 1935, in Sergeant, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Carl Albert Glans and the late Ruth Marie (Matha) Glans. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Neil Glans; and one granddaughter, Amber Marie Schmidt.

Mrs. Johnson had been employed as a private sitter at The Kensington. She was a member of the Flintstone United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Robert L. Johnson, Artemas; three daughters, Ruth Marie Johnson and Scott Wilson, Cumberland, Debra Mae Price and husband Lynn C., Everett, Pa., and Robin Ruby and husband Gary, Clearville, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Michael L. Dicken Jr., Justin Robert Dicken, Danielle Nicole Miller, Brianna Amber Rose Miller, Mary Jo Price, Chastity Dawne Pringle, Nicole Danielle Pringle and Christopher Robert Earl Pringle; one great-grandson, Dylan John Dicken; one brother, Archie Glans, Kane, Pa.; and two sisters, Alice Blair, Utica, Pa., and Alberta Grolemund, Kane.

There will be no visitation.

Memorial services will be conducted at the Flintstone United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 1, at noon with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.

The Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, is in charge of arrangements.

TIMOTHY L. JEFFERYS
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Timothy Lynn Jefferys, 31, of Hyndman, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, in Pittsburgh.
Born June 21, 1965, at Cumberland, Md., he was a son of Stanley Michael Jefferys, Hyndman, and the late Rae P. "Polly" (Brick) Jefferys.

Mr. Jefferys was employed as a truck driver for Brock Steel Co., Cumberland.

Surviving in addition to his father are his wife and best friend, Debbi L. (Leister) Jefferys; son and best buddy, Timothy Shane Jefferys, at home; a brother, Terry M. Jefferys, Hyndman; a sister, Katie M. Jefferys, Hyndman; and his paternal grandmother and stepgrandfather, Evelyn and Donald Robertson, LaVale, Md.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Harry T. Ryan officiating.

Interment will be in Hyndman cemetery.

ORVILLE L. JAY
CLEARVILLE, Pa. - Orville Leroy Jay, 79, of RD 2, Clearville, died Tuesday, June 24, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Feb. 16, 1918, in Monroe Township, he was the son of the late Alva and Minnie M. (Morse) Jay. He also was preceded in death by one brother; one sister; and one grandson.

Mr. Jay was a member of the Bethel Christian Church and the Artemas American Legion, William McKinley Smith Post 155. He was currently serving as treasurer for the Pine Grove cemetery Association. He was a former member of the Board of Directors for the Bedford Farm Bureau, member ASCS. He also was a lifetime farmer in Monroe Township. He served in the United States Army during World War II in battles and campaigns GO 33, WD 45, Normandy and Northern France, receiving Good Conduct medal, American Defense service medal, European African Middle Eastern service medal, with two Bronze Stars, and was in the Company B 38th Engineers.

Surviving are his wife Lyda (O'Neal) Jay; one son, Orville E. Jay Jr. and wife Joyce, Harrisonville; one daughter, Deborah C. Clark and husband Clad, RD 2, Clearville; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Herman Jay, RD 2, Clearville; and one sister Reba Miller, Ridgeley, W.Va.

Friends may call at the Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett, Pa., on Thursday from 2 to 9 p.m. and at the church on Friday one hour prior to services.

Services will be conducted at the Bethel Christian Church on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Russell Hoffman officiating.

Interment will be in the Fairview cemetery, with full military graveside honors, conducted by the Artemas American Legion.

If friends so desire, contributions may be made to the Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit, 600 Memorial Blvd., Cumberland, MD 21502.

DENNIS JAY
ARTEMAS, Pa. - Dennis Jay, 81, of Artemas, died in Pennknoll Village, Bedford County, Pa., on Sept. 27, 1997.
He was born Jan. 4, 1916, in Mann Township, son of the late Thomas Jay and Agnes Barnes. He married the former Carolyn (Curren) Jay on Sept. 20, 1933, and she preceded him in death Mar. 14, 1991. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Bennett, on Aug. 26, 1997.

He is survived by four children: Evelyn, wife of Charles Clingerman, RD 1, Clearville, Pa., Shirley, wife of Willard "Jack" Shipley, Middletown, Pa., Larry E. Jay, RD 1, Artemas, married to the former Denise Snyder, and Bonnie, wife of Dr. Brad Foor, RD 1, Everett, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Fizer, Hagerstown.

He was a member of the Fairview Christian Church, Artemas, and was serving as secretary for the Fairview cemetery Association. He retired from Penn DOT in 1980. Mr. Jay also was a member of the Chaneysville Senior Citizens, and he served on the Executive Board of the Bedford County Democratic Party.

Friends may call at the Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main St., Everett, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 11 a.m. at the Fairview Christian Church, with the Rev. Benny Breakhall and the Rev. Milton Morris officiating. The body will be taken to the Church one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be in the Fairview cemetery.

If friends so desire, contributions may be made to the Fairview cemetery Association or to the Fairview Christian Church in memory of Mr. Jay.

RONALD G. JACKSON
MURRELL'S INLET, S.C. - Ronald G. Jackson, 79, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Saturday, June 21, 1997, at the Prince George Village Nursing Home, Murrell's Inlet.
Born Sept. 18, 1917, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Rush H. and Evelyn (Gehret) Jackson. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine (Ebersol) Jackson.

Mr. Jackson was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Cumberland. He was the owner and operator of the American Dental Laboratory, Cumberland. He was a member of B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 63, Cumberland, and Lodge No. 2351, Surfside Beach.

Surviving are two sons, Ronald A. Jackson, Alexandria, Va., and Gary L. Jackson, Chambersburg, Pa.; one daughter, Barbara A. Murphy, Murrell's Inlet; one brother, Tom Jackson, Sun City, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted at Sunset Memorial Park on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen F. Yelovich officiating.

Interment will follow.

Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, Cumberland, is in charge of the arrangements.

DONALD E. KERR
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Donald Eugene "Red" Kerr, 69, of Hyndman, died Tuesday, June 17, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born May 4, 1928, at Miller Run, he was the son of the late Geneva (Kerr) Berkey.

Surviving are his long-time companion, Lillian V. Emerick, Hyndman; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Kerr was a retired chef. He had served with the United States Army for nine years, including tours in Korea and Japan during the Korean Conflict. He attended the Bible Gospel Church, Hyndman, and was a member of the Fort Bedford VFW, Post 7527, and the Bedford American Legion, Post 113.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Services will be conducted at the Bible Gospel Church on Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Fay E. Leydig officiating.

Interment will be in the Hyndman cemetery.

Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.

Bowen, Shirley Anne

Shirley A. (nee Porto) Bowen, of Milmont Park, Ridley Twp., PA. Died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Born in Ridley Park, PA to the late Andrew and Catherine Gavetti Porto. She had been a long time resident of Ridley Twp., PA.

Education: Graduate Ridley Township High School Class of 1962

PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT: Boeing working in packing until her retirement.

ORGANIZATIONS: Shirley was devoted to her family and loved them with all of her heart and was very fond of all of her good friends. She was blessed with an artistic talent and loved to decorate and work in her garden. She enjoyed shopping especially going to flea markets and looking for antiques. She also loved traveling and taking trips with her daughter, dancing and live entertainment.

Wife of the late Lamar Bowen who died in 1997.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by Son: Ken J. Boyer of Milmont Park, PA; Daughter: Connie M. Boyer (Lee Sarubin) of Woodlyn, PA; One Brother: Andrew J. Porto (Nancy) of Brookhaven, PA; Also survived by several Nieces and Nephews.

TIME & PLACE SERVICE: Funeral Service 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at The Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Middletown (Rte#352) & Knowlton Roads, Middletown Twp., Media, PA

CALLING HOURS: Friends may call 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home.

CEMETERY: Interment Chester Rural Cemetery, Chester, PA
