RALPH F. WHITNEY
BEDFORD, Pa. - Ralph F. Whitney, 87, of South Richard Street, Bedford, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at his home.
He was born July 19, 1910, in Cheyenne, Wyo., the son of the late Louis F. and Belle (Johnson) Whitney.

On Dec. 19, 1953, he married his devoted wife, Virginia "Ginger" Fost, who survives, along with the following children: Jackie, wife of Curtis Dawson, Buffalo Mills, Pa., Thomas Smeak, married to the former Darlene Hughes, Hyndman, Pa., the Rev. Nancy Clark, wife of Frank Clark, Carlisle, Pa., and Kay Nesbit, Dallas, Ore. Thirteen grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Whitney was a devout Christian and attended the Christian Missionary Alliance Church. He retired in 1964 after 17 1/2 years in the Army receiving numerous medals and commendations. He then worked for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission as an ambulance driver, retiring in 1976. He also owned and operated Ralph's Gadget Shoppe in Bedford for over five years.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with the Rev. Hal Rotruck officiating. Burial will be in the Palo Alto cemetery with military rites conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.,

Friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p..m. at the funeral home.

SHELLY L. WICE
FRANKLIN, Pa. - Shelly Lynn Wice, 14, of RD 5, Franklin, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997, after being struck by a train in Londonderry Township, Bedford County.
Born May 13, 1983, in Franklin, she was the daughter of Thomas and Gretta (Fichtner) Wice. She also was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Arden D. Fichtner.

Miss Wice would have been attending the ninth grade at Oil City High School this fall. She was in the band, chorus and the GLAD program at the middle school. She was a member of Student Council and was a statistician for ninth grade basketball. Miss Wice attended the Bethel United Methodist Church and a member of the youth program at the church. She was a Community Youth Volunteer, a member of the Y-teens at the Oil City YWCA and was in the Youth Volunteer Program in Oil City. She played girls basketball and was in the senior little league softball, Cooperstown.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by one brother, Brian Wice; one sister, Jackie Wice, both at home; her maternal grandmother, Charlotte Fichtner, Townville; her paternal grandparents, Tom and Janet Wice, Plumer; aunts and uncles, David Fichtner, Townville, Arden Fichtner, Phoenix, Ariz., Susan Hackworth, Meadville, Ray Berdine and wife Suzette, Warren, Shirley Hughes and husband Jim, Slippery Rock, Ted Karns and wife Cindy, Pleasantville, and Terry Wice and wife Lisa, Plumer.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home, Oil City, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Oakland United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Interment will be in the Bethel cemetery, near Franklin.

The family suggests that memorials take the form of contributions to the charity of one's choice.

MARY PAULINE WISE
PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. - Mary Pauline Wise, 76, of R.D. 3, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997, at her home following a brief illness.
Born Oct. 4, 1921, in Henderson Township, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Milton W. Wise, Sr. and Lulabelle London Wise.

She was a member of the Troutville United Church of Christ. She received a master's degree from Penn State University and was a member of the Delta Cappa Gamma Sorority. She was a school teacher in the Sykesville, Pa., area and taught at the University of Maryland Extension for 32 years. She lived in Cumberland for 32 years, returning to the Punxsutawney area in 1983.

While in Cumberland she served as director of the County Co-Op Extension Service. She also belonged to the Allegany Arts Council and Art Alliance, and she was an advisor for the Homemakers Club and was a 4-H girls supervisor.

She is survived by a brother, Milton W. "Bill" Wise, Jr.; two nieces; two nephews; and several great-grand nieces and nephews.

FRANKLIN O. WISMAN
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Franklin Otis Wisman, 78, of 141 Eisenhower Dr., Chambersburg, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 1997, at his residence.
Born February 25, 1919, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Otis and Sarah Elizabeth (Hite) Wisman. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Rush Wisman, in 1995, and by one sister, Zelia Wisman McCollough.

Mr. Wisman retired from T.B. Woods Company, Chambersburg, in 1986, where he served as chief engineer for the creation of the Ultracon Product Line. Following his retirement he was a consulting engineer for several Chambersburg manufacturers. Before locating in Chambersburg, he was employed as an electrical engineer at Bendix Aviation and Dodge Manufacturing in South Bend, Ind., and Smithern Laboratories in Richmond, Va. He was a graduate of Allegany High School, Cumberland, and Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. He was a member of the Falling Springs Presbyterian Church, Chambersburg. He was a lifetime member of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. He served as program chairperson for the Mid-Atlantic Germanic Society and president of the Community Concert Association in Chambersburg.

He is survived by two daughters, Florence W. (Mrs. Milton K.) Mills, Washington, D.C., and Louise G. (Mrs. Peter D.) Lovell, Rockville; four grandchildren; a sister, Mary O. Straw; a niece, Mary E. Malamphy; and a nephew, William C. Straw, Jr., all of Cumberland; another niece, Vera McCollough Piper, Roanoke, Va.

Friends will be received at the Robert Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the Falling Springs Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 2 p.m.

Interment will be in the Fallin 6g Springs cemetery.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to: The Falling Springs Presbyterian Church, 221 North Main St., Chambersburg, PA 17201; the Shippensburg University Foundation, 1871 Old Main Dr., Shippensburg, PA 17257; or a charity of choice.

WALTER H. "KITE" WITT
WELLERSBURG, Pa. - Walter H. "Kite"', 90, of Wellersburg, died Thursday, May 29, 1997, at his beloved farm where he also was born on Sept. 8, 1906.
He was a son of the late George W. and Alice L. (Moser) Witt. He also was preceded in death by a son, Walter D. Witt; four brothers; and three sisters. He was the last member of his immediate family.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Lena G. (Conaway) Witt; a son, Jon C. Witt and wife Rita, Corriganville; a daughter, Barbara A. Gyauch and husband Charles, Oakton, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Witt was a farmer, cattle dealer and butcher. He was a member of Zion Lutheran and Reformed Church, Wellersburg; a member of Wellersburg Volunteer Fire Company; and a member and past president of the Wellersburg Town Council.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Services will be conducted at the Zion Lutheran and Reformed Church on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Craig and the Rev. Ken L. Korns officiating.

Interment will be in the Wellersburg cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Zion Lutheran and Reformed Church or Wellersburg Fire Department, both at Wellersburg, Pa. 15564.

TIMOTHY P. WARD
HYNDMAN, Pa. - Timothy Paul Ward, 33, of Harrisburg, formerly of Hyndman, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, near Hyndman.
Born July 12, 1963, at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., he was a son of Dorothy (Salonish) Ward, Hyndman, and the late Guy Ward.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 10 years, Doris J. (Sherley) Ward; a daughter, Abigail Z. Ward, Harrisburg; two stepdaughters, Jillian M. Rowe and Crystal R. Rowe, both of Harrisburg; three brothers, Rev. William G. Ward and wife Patricia, Johnstown, Jeffery T. Ward and wife Vickie, Hyndman, and Nicholas A. Ward and wife Marla, Hyndman; his maternal grandmother, Anna Salonish, Buffalo Mills; six nephews; and two nieces.

Mr. Ward was a dispatcher for Automated Wagering, Inc., Harrisburg. He was a 1981 graduate of Hyndman High School, and a member of SS Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Catholic Church, Central City.

Services will be conducted at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Friday at noon with the Rev. Michael C. Kabel officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in SS Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Catholic cemetery, Central City.

DENNIS C. WAYBRIGHT
BEDFORD, Pa. - Dennis C. Waybright, 58, of RD 2, Bedford, died Thursday, April 3, 1997, at Memorial Hospital of Bedford County.
Born Jan. 27, 1939, at Shaw, W.Va., he was a son of the late Arthur and Ruth Virginia (BarŠ nes) Waybright. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Elliott Waybright; and a sister, Myrtle Kitzmiller.

Mr. Waybright was a former butcher for the Acme Market in Bedford. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Pleasantville VFW Post 9219.

Surviving are two sons, Craig Waybright, Fishertown, and Kerry Waybright, Osterburg; a daughter, Kim Logue and husband Barry, RD 1, Osterburg; his fiance, Virginia Lynn Foor, RD 2, Bedford; three brothers, Ronald Waybright, Greenville, Tenn., Robert Waybright, Winchester, Va., and William Waybright, Manassas, Va.; sister, Beverly Cardaro, Newport News, Va.; and two grandchildren.

He was married to the former Janis (King) and to the former Darlene (Ranker).

Viewing will be held at the Louis Geisel Funeral Home, Bedford, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, April 7, 1997, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Charles Rhodes officiating.

Burial will be in the Bedford County Memorial Park. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.

ROBERT W. WARE
BEDFORD, Pa. - Robert W. Ware, 68, of Lake Gordon Road, Bedford, died Friday, August 8, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice Unit, Cumberland, Md.
Born August 10, 1928, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Samuel W. and Margaret L. (Clites) Ware. He also was preceded in death by a son, Ronald L. Ware Sr.; a grandson, Ronald L. Ware Jr.; and a sister, Eleanor Smith.

Mr. Ware was retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company. He was a member of the Sandy Crossing Hunting Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Ann (Greise) Ware; a son, Robert W. Ware Jr. and wife Karen, Pine Ridge Road, Bedford; two daughters, Sharon Price and husband Sheldon, Centerville, and Cathy Growden and husband Gary, Lake Gordon Road, Bedford; three brothers, Samuel E. Ware and wife Dorothy, Pine Ridge Road, Bedford, Howard Ware and wife Paula, Pine Ridge Road, Bedford, and Gerald Ware and wife Wilma, Bedford; four sisters, Dora Shipley and husband Dick, Hyndman, Thelma Larry and husband Bill, Cumberland, Eva Heinrich and husband Paul, Cumberland, and Pat Stickel and husband Reed, Centerville; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bernard A. Yost officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Greg Wilson, Gerry Ware, Kevin Price, Larry Higson, Bruce Bennett, Jamie Growden, Timmy Ware, and Stanley Price.

Patterson, Elizabeth Ann

Elizabeth Ann Patterson, nee Carson, 87 of Mohnton, PA, formerly of Rockland Township, PA died July 29, 2010 at the home of her daughter Chrissy Gambler. She was surrounded by her loving and devoted family. "Betty" was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert "Pat" Patterson in January 2010.

Born in Darby, PA on March 13, 1923, Betty was the daughter of the late John B. Carson and Helen Louden Carson. Betty graduated from Darby High School in 1941.

In May 1942 Betty met the love of her life, Pat, on a blind date and they were married on August 4th 1942 in Wilmington, DE.

She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Betty had a zest for life and loved the beauty of nature. She enjoyed her beautiful flower gardens and also loved watching birds which she could identify by sight and song.

Her hobbies included sewing, flower arranging, gardening, canning produce, making jelly, and reading. Betty and Pat loved the Lord and her life reflected this love through her hospitality and generosity. Their farm was the gathering place for all the family and their many friends. Pat and Betty loved traveling and camping, especially with loved ones. Acadia National Park and the seashore were their favorite places.

Betty is survived by her three daughters, Patricia Reiner of Millsboro, DE; Christine wife of Errol Gambler of Lewes, DE; Lorraine Trexler, wife of Rich Paulhamus of Mohnton, PA; and one son, Robert Patterson, Jr., husband of Lana Patterson of Cumberland House, Saskatchewan, Canada; eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; and her brother Charles Carson, husband of Marilyn of Easton, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brother John B. Carson II and sister Helen Edwards; sons in law, John A. Reiner and Robert P. Trexler; and grandson Jeremy L. Trexler.

A funeral service will be held at Noon on Tuesday, August 3rd at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE. Family and friends are invited to attend the celebration of Betty's life. Visitation will be 11AM - Noon. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made in Betty's memory to the Salvation Army, 301 S. 5th St., Reading, PA, 19602, (610) 373-5208.
