Jay B. Huff

November 29, 2003

Jay B. Huff, 82, of Harrington, Del., and formerly of Tyrone, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003 at Capitol Health Care Services in Dover, Del.
He was born Aug. 26, 1921, the son of the late George and Florence Pressler Huff.
Mr. Huff enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1938 during World War II and received the Purple Heart. After leaving the army in 1945, he joined the U.S. Air Force and retired after 25 years of service as SSGT. He then worked for the CIA until his retirement.
Mr. Huff was an avid bowler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by three daughters, Molly Jayne Huey of Greenwood, Del, Gretchen Mari Gantt of Nashville, Tenn., and Wanda Huff; a son, Jay Huff Jr.; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Clapper of Tyrone and Rena Snyder of Wahhoo, Neb.; and former wife Susan Isenberg of Nashville, Tenn.
Services will be held on Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Fleischauer Funeral Home, 48 West Market St., Greenwood, Del.
Friends my call one hour before.
Interment will be held at the Delaware Vaterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Del.

Lester B. “Bus” Williams

November 26, 2003

Lester B. “Bus” Williams, 81, of Vail, RD 3 Box 127, Tyrone died at 5:20 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003 at Moran’s Home in Bellwood.
He was born May 15, 1922 at Mountain Orchard, Snyder Township, a son of David Porter and Maude Gertrude (Miller) Williams.
He was married Sept. 1, 1950 at Bigler to Elizabeth Ellen Dunkle.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, David Williams and his wife Gina of Williamsburg and Daniel Williams and his wife Toni of Tyrone; a daughter, Donna Phillips and her husband Jeff of Tyrone; three grandchildren, Lorie Nicewonger and her husband Shawn of Williamsburg, Corey Williams of Williamsburg and Shawn Phillips of Tyrone; a great grandson, Garrett Nicewonger; a step-granddaughter, Danielle Barto; and a sister, Lois Waite of Tyrone.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Jess.
He was an army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theatre, a member of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Co.; the American Legion Post No. 281; V.F.W. Post No. 4559 and the Bellwood Eagles.
He retired as a lineman from Penelec in May 1982 after 30 years of service.
Funeral services and flag presentation will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Derman Funeral Home in Tyrone with Pastor Jim Kilmartin officiating.
Interment will be at Baughman Cemetery, Snyder Township.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 7-9 p.m.

Jane B. Hughes

November 26, 2003

A memorial service for Mrs. Jane B. Hughes, who died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Dunkelberger officiating.
Inurnment will be made in Blair Memorial Park.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 102 W. 13th St., Tyrone, Pa 16686 or to the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library, 1049 Logan Ave., Tyrone, Pa 16686.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc.

Hazel M. Morgan

April 14, 2004

Hazel M. Morgan, 81, of 1000 E. 5th Street, Bellwood, died Monday morning, April 12, 2004 at Moran’s Home, Bellwood.
She was born Aug. 24, 1922 in Bellwood, a daughter of the late Edward and Catherine (Davis) Garland. She married Harry T. Morgan on December 26, 1950 in Cumberland, MD. He died on Oct. 23, 1985.
Mrs. Morgan is survived by a son: Richard L., and his wife, Nancy of Beaver; two daughters: Beverly J. Green and husband, Marlin of Deland, FL., and Cathy Stapleton, and husband, Wayne of Bellwood; grandchildren: Heather Reimer, Holly Stapleton, Jennifer Medvec, Joanna Jordan, Amanda and Beth Wertz, Lisa Stott, Andrea Stapleton, Carla Stouffer; great grandchildren: Michelle and Andrew Stapleton and Jullian Medvec; also several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers: John and Robert and sisters: Isabel Shope and Laura Garland.
She retired as a physical therapist at Mercy Hospital, Altoona, in 1980 with 25 years service. Following her retirement, she very much enjoyed her second career as a care giver.
Mrs. Morgan was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bellwood. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, Bellwood.
Mrs. Morgan enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening and her fish pond.
She especially enjoyed time with her family.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Thursday, April 15, at the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 16, 2004 at the funeral home with Rev. Carl Alexy officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Hazel’s memory may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, N. 4th and Cambria St., Bellwood or the Bellwood-Antis Public Library, Main St., Bellwood, PA 16617.

Darlene A. Light

April 13, 2004

Darlene A. Light, 49, of 1517 Iowa Place, N.E., Canton, Ohio died Sunday morning, April 11, 2004 at the Mercy Medical Center in Canton.
She was born Jan. 8, 1955 in Tyrone the daughter of Melvin E. and Shirley (Stiver) Light Sr.
She is survived by three children, Tammi Light of Canton, Ohio, and Joseph and James Light of Johnstown; three grandchildren, Hayle, Tre and Cameron; her mother, Shirley Light of Bellemeade; two brothers, Melvin E. Light Jr. of RD 3 Tyrone and James Light of Indiana; and three sisters, Sylvia Leach of Oklahoma, Susan Leach of Kentucky and Debbie Stouffer of Ohio.
She was a member of the Trinity Church of Canton, Ohio and was a graduate of Tyrone Area High School in 1972.
She was a licensed practical nurse and had worked in various nursing homes.
Friends will be received at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone on Wednesday from 9-11 a.m. where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Interment will be at Baughman Cemetery in Snyder Township.

Jack Clifton Anders

April 12, 2004

Jack Clifton Anders, age 76, of RD 1 Box 259, Morris Township, Alexandria, PA died Saturday, April 10, 2004 at 7:28 a.m. at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born on July 18, 1927 and lived his entire life on his family homestead in Morris Township, Water Street, Huntingdon County, PA.
He was the son of the late Roy H. and Myrtle Inez (Rousch) Anders.
He married Rosemary Waite on April 4, 1947 in Berrysville, Virginia. Mrs. Anders preceded him in death on February 28, 2002.
He is survived by his children: Mr. Robert C. “Sam” Anders and his wife Linda of Water Street; Mr. Thomas W. Anders and his wife Patricia of Water Street; Mr. Kevin M. Anders and his wife Michelle of Water Street and Melissa “Susie” Franchio and her fiancé Jerry of Mt. Holly, New Jersey.
Also surviving are grandchildren: Robert C. Anders Jr., Jack T. Anders, Daniel W. Anders, Clifford R. Anders, Amy Fleck, and Adam Franchio and great-grandchildren Lynnsey Fleck and Caleb Anders.
Two brothers Thomas Richard Anders and Joseph W. Anders of Alexandria and a sister Mrs. Jean A. Kooken of Tyrone also survive.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter Cynthia Lou Anders on October 2, 1981, an infant son Jack Anders in 1964 and a granddaughter Jennifer E. Anders in 1975. Also preceding him in death were brothers George E., Roy H., John V., Raymond, James and Donald Anders and a sister Patricia Logan.
He retired in 1993 after working for 26 years for the IA Construction Corporation.
He was a member of God’s Missionary Church, Alexandria. He was a lifetime member to the Hookies Fire Company, Tyrone, a life member of the Water Street and Shaffersville Historical Society and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
His biggest enjoyment came from his time spent with his family. They were the most important part of his life.
He graduated from Alexandria High School.
Like many of the greatest generation, he volunteered to serve during World War II, entering the United States Army Special Training Unit, Ft. Devens, Massachusetts on September 11, 1945 and served as a Private, until he was Honorably Discharged on December 14, 1945, after the war ended.
Family and friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2004 and from noon, Tuesday, April 13, 2004 until the hour of service.
Time and place of service is Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home - Juniata Valley Chapel, 412 Main Street, Alexandria, PA 16611.
Rev. Alvin R. Shaffer will officiate. Interment will be at Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery, Alexandria, PA.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home P.C., Juniata Valley Chapel, 412 Main Street, Alexandria, PA 16611.

Daniel Rodman Madara

June 1, 2004

Daniel Rodman Madara, 88, of Bellwood died May 29, 2004 at Tyrone Hospital.
He was born April 27, 1916 in Bellwood, a son of the late Daniel Clair and Nellie Emma (Swan) Madara. He married M. Jane Hauser on Oct. 10, 1941 in Altoona.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years; two daughters: Katherine J. Williams and husband, Blair of Irvona, and Joyce M. Nau, and husband, Charles of Huntsville, AL; a son: Dr. James L. Madara and wife, Vicki of Chicago, IL; six grandchildren: Darla Nau Bernstein and husband, Dr. David Bernstein of Seattle, WA; Daniel Nau and wife, Jacki of Olive Branch, MS; Army First Lt. Christina Williams Lewis and husband, Jay of Smoke Run (stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX), Pamela Williams, of Irvona and fiancé, Matthew Allen, Max and Alexis Madara both of Chicago, IL; four great grandchildren: Robby and Patrick of Seattle, WA and Cody and Elizabeth of Olive Branch, MS; a sister: Martha Zwergel of Kalamazoo, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Madara was preceded in death by a son: Daniel Rodman Madara, Jr.; a sister: Catherine Tyler and brother, David.
Mr. Madara was a 1934 graduate of Antis Township High School and attended Juniata College.
He retired in 1971 from Amtrak/Penna. Railroad, serving over 30 years as a passenger trainman/conductor.
Mr. Madara was a member of the Tipton Baptist Church where he was active in the over 60’s bible study group.
He was a member of the U.T.U. and A.A.R.P.
Friends were received from 6-8 p.m., Monday, May 31 and 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. time of funeral service, Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at the Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood with Pastors John Pine and David Ervine officiating.
Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bellwood-Antis Public Library or Tipton Baptist Church.

Kenneth L. Emery, II

July 27, 2004

Kenneth L. Emery, II, 43, of 401 Sylvan Circle, Tyrone, Pa. died at 1:35 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2004 at the Tyrone Hospital E.R.
He was born November 7, 1960 in Kalamazoo, Mich. the son of Thomas L. Gates and Jennie Faye (Lewis) Gates.
He was married July 5, 1994 in Altoona to Clare Ann Brumbaugh.
He is survived by his wife and step-son, Thomas U. Smith at home and step-son Spenser R. Smith of Pittsburgh. His parents, Thomas and Faye Gates of Grazierville and Father-in-law Kenneth E. Brumbaugh of Beverly Hills, Fla.
Brother, Michael Emery and sister, Stacey Emery of Tyrone and sisters, Mary C. Weakland of Grazierville and Donna M. Goodfellow of Altoona.
There are several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the Tyrone Bible Baptist Church and a graduate of Tyrone Area High School in 1980. He enjoyed running and bicycle riding. He was a regular participant in the International Tour de “Toona Races and the Kenneth Brumbaugh Memorial Run.
He was last employed as a detailer at Courtesy Ford, Altoona.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 29, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone, with Dr. Sam Abraham officiating. Interment will be at Bald Eagle Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from noon until 2 p.m.
