Formerly of Brentwood

Stephen R. "Butch" Flinn, 70, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Brentwood, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 8, 2011. He was the loving husband of Suzanne S.; beloved father of James P. (Michelle) and Michael P. (Sally); proud Pap of Braden, Sydney, McClain, Laekyn, Brody and Delaney; brother of Jeanne, Donna, Marlene and the late Mary, James and Shirley; also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Butch's family appreciates all of your thoughts and prayers. Visitation and services will be private. Della R. Gruber
Carrick
Formerly of Brentwood

Della R. Gruber, 80, of Carrick, formerly of Brentwood, died Friday, May 6, 2011. She was the beloved mother of Tom (Sue), Timothy (Vickie) and Robert (Rainee) Gruber; and grandmother of Derek and Colton Gruber. Della was a retired clerical supervisor for the Allegheny County Health Department. Services were private. Arrangements entrusted to the CIESLAK & TATKO FUNERAL HOME INC., 2935 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, 412-881-2300. Nelson F. Buys

Nelson F. Buys, 90, of Baldwin Borough, died Jan. 31, 2011.

Mr. Buys was the owner and founder of Nelson Buys Tree Service. He was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Army. He was a former member of Rolling Hills Country Club and a past president of the Great Lakes Seniors Golf Association.

He is survived by his children, Nelson F. Buys Jr. (Linda), William K. Buys, Joanne B. Meade (Paul), Michael P. Buys (Janice), Susan B. Sullivan (Kevin), Patricia L. Buys, Alicia, Mary Louise Turkeri (Bulent); grandchildren, Nelson III, Melissa, Jennifer, Paul, Michael, Shawn, Brendan, Lloyd, Nancy, Evran and Teyla; great-grandchildren, Nelson IV, Nicholas, Nathan, Joseph and Peter; and brother- and sister-in-law, William and Mary Kleber.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy K. Buys.

Arrangements were handled by John F. Slater Funeral Home Inc. The family suggests contributions to DAV, 1000 Liberty Ave., Room 1606, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.

Eugene McCallian
PIAA official

Eugene H. McCallian, 84, of Whitehall, died Feb. 2, 2011.

Mr. McCallian was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a retired federal postal employee and served as a PIAA football, basketball and volleyball official for more than 20 years.

He is survived by his children, Michael, Patricia Kascak and Sean; grandchildren, Christie, Tiffany and Kaylee; stepchildren, Dan Griffith, Marilyn Fetter, Linda Gouldey and Janet (Mike) Bly; and step-grandchildren, Rebecca, Tom, Mandy, Laura, Crystal, Kevin, Nick, David and Matt. He also is survived by nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wives, Imogene (Kopp) and Jeanne (Steele) Griffith McCallian; his son, Francis McCallian; his parents, John and Alice (Doyle) McCallian; and siblings, Leo, Patrick, Francis, Alice, Mary Catherine, Genevieve, James and Jerry; and a step-grandchild, Greg.

Friends were received at the Cieslak and Tatko Funeral Home Inc., Brentwood. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Sylvester Church.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cleveland VA Hospice Unit, 10701 East Blvd., Cleveland, OH 44106.

Irene Marinelli
Grandmother

Irene Marinelli, 98, of Torrance, Calif., formerly of Brentwood and Whitehall, died Feb. 1, 2011.

She is survived by her son, Joseph (Noreen) Marinelli of Redondo Beach, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Daniel Marinelli of Hermosa Beach, Calif., and Dana Marinelli of Seattle, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Marinelli; her parents, Sara and Samuel Yaksich; and her brothers and sisters, George, Alex, Sophie, Ann, Martha and Mildred (Mickie).

Services were held at Pacific Crest Cemetery, Redondo Beach, Calif.

Robert Conroy
Marine

Robert F. Conroy, 81, of Jefferson Borough, formerly of Baldwin Borough, died Feb. 3, 2011.

Mr. Conroy was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his children, Dennis, Dorianne (Stephan) DiGregorio and James (Donna) Conroy; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Arthur "Bud" Conroy.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert F. Conroy Jr.; and siblings, John Conroy, Betty McFarland Redshaw and Louise Claridy.

Friends were received at the Cieslak & Tatko Funeral Home Inc., Brentwood. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Wendelin Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Passionist Convent, 2715 Churchview Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15227.

Marie Knight
Grandmother

Marie (Perdziola) Knight, 80, of Brentwood, formerly of Baldwin, died Feb. 4, 2011.

She is survived by her husband, Grant Knight; daughters, Sandra (Scott) Evans and Sharon (Joseph) DiPerna; grandchildren, Ryan, Russell, Lisa and Anthony; and siblings, Veronica Bohonek, Evelyn Haines, and Steve and Godfrey Perdziola.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Stella Och, Genevieve Salak and Walter and Eugene Perdziola.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Cieslak & Tatko Funeral Home Inc., Brentwood.

Virginia Novak
Great-grandmother

Virginia J. Novak, 82, of Whitehall, formerly of Polish Hill, died Feb. 3, 2011.

She is survived by her husband, Henry P. Novak, of 62 years; and children, Stephen P., Kathryn Quallich, Virginia (Richard) McMurdy and Amy (Daniel) Novak. She also is survived by nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were handled by John F. Slater Funeral Home Inc., Brentwood.
