Riofski, Helen

March 7, 2000

Helen M. Riofski, 91, of North Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday in the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born March 7, 1909, in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Sophie (Prusakowski) Warakomski. She was a graduate of Nanticoke High School and of the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital Nursing School. She was a registered nurse. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Nanticoke; and Saint Peter & Paul's Church, Hudson, a section of Plains Township.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Anthony F.; brothers , Bernard Warakomski and Charles Warren; and sister, Clara Denby.

Surviving are her son, Frank, Dallas; daughter, Marilyn C. Kozloski, Forty Fort; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; sister, Marion Delligatti, Toms River, N.J.; nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family in the Holy Trinity Cemetery Chapel with Monsignor Bernard Toloczko officiating. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Sheatown, Newport Township. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Bednarski Funeral Home, 21 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre.

MILDRED RISKO

April 14, 1999

Mildred S. (Gavlick) Risko, of Tucson, Ariz., died April 14.

Born in Swoyersville, she was a daughter of the late Sophie and Peter Gavlick.

She and her husband, the late Michael Risko, resided in Binghamton, N.Y., until his retirement in 1981.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters , Maryann, Barbara and Tillie.

Surviving are her daughters , Michaline Pridans, and Cindy Daniel, three grandchildren, brother, Peter A. Gavlick, West Wyoming; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted April 17 at Brings Broadway Chapel in Tucson. Interment followed on the East Lawn of Tucson Memorial Park.

Ritz, Helen

February 10, 2000

Helen J. Ritz, 81, of Edwardsville, died Thursday at the Morris Hills Nursing Home, Morristown, N.J.

Born in Plymouth, she was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. Ritz.

Surviving are her daughter, Lorraine Perry, Morris Township, N.J.; son, Edward, Norfolk, Va.; nine grandchildren; sister, Stella Dragon, Wilkes-Barre; and brother, Joseph Stelmack, Baltimore.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart-St. John's Church, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be private. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Doyle Funeral Home, Morristown.

Roberts, Anna

February 17, 2000

Anna F. Roberts, 87, of Berwick, died Thursday at her home.

Born March 11, 1912, in Camden, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Walter and Francis Bates and a graduate of Wilkes-Barre schools. She was a member of the Beach Haven United Methodist Church, a worthy matron with the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the White Shrine, Dallas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Roberts Sr.

Surviving are her son, John H., Jr., Bothell, Wash.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Beach Haven United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends after the church service. Private interment will be Monday in Wardan Cemetery, Dallas. Arrangements are by the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, Kingston.

ROBERTO, ROSE

November 3, 1999

Rose M. Roberto, of Moosic Road in Old Forge died Wednesday at Mercy Hospice in Scranton.

Born in Old Forge, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Antonetta (D'ettore) Roberto.

She was a 1937 graduate of Old Forge High School.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church on West Grace Street in Old Forge, and the parish Altar & Rosary Society.

Surviving are her brother, Nicholas, Moosic; sisters , Josephine Roberto, Marguarite Aulisio and Marie Hosking, all of Old Forge; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Louis V. Ciuccio Funeral Home, 145 Moosic Road, Old Forge, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Interment will be in the Old Forge Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Church; or to Northeast Health and Hospice Care, Inc., 38 N. Main St., Pittston, 18640.

Robinson, Thomas

March 9, 2000

Thomas Robert Robinson, 85, of Dallas, died Thursday at his home. Born Dec. 31, 1914, in Honesdale, he was a son of the late Thomas and Florence Robinson. He was a bus driver for Detroit Street Railways. He was a member of Shavertown United Methodist Church, the Irem Temple, Wilkes-Barre and the Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Robinson; brothers , Charles and Harry; and sister, Lois Joyce.

Surviving are his nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main St., Shavertown, with the Rev. Douglas Clark officiating. Interment will be in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of service Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shavertown United Methodist Church, 163 N. Pioneer Ave., Shavertown, 18708.

RODGERS, LYNN

September 9, 1999

Lynn D. Rodgers, 57, of R.R. 3, Berwick, died Thursday at his home after a brief illness.

Born Jan. 9, 1942, in Kingston, he was a son of the late John and Anna Mae (Greenwald) Rodgers.

He was a 1960 graduate of Kingston High School and served with the U.S. Navy after his schooling.

He first worked for Deluxe Homes, Inc., in Berwick as a production manager for many years, and then for Newport Homes in Pine Grove for several years. Until recently, he was a production manager and purchasing agent at Design Homes in Bloomsburg.

He was a member of the West Berwick Hose Co.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne.

Surviving are his wife, the former Vivian M. Robbins, with whom he observed their 31st wedding anniversary Aug. 17; daughters , Wendy Matash, Berwick; and Tracey Rodgers, Hoboken, N.J.; two grandchildren; brother, Jack, Swoyersville; and sister, Diane Broody, Edwardsville.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, 1024 Market St., Berwick, with the Rev. James R. Taylor, chaplain for SUN Home Hospice. Interment will be in Rose Lawn Cemetery in Berwick.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. this evening.

ROEDER, JENNIFER

October 26, 1999

Jennifer J. (Kenthack) Roeder, 53, of Cedar Hill Road in Lower Pottsgrove Township, died Tuesday in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center.

Born in Mountaintop, she was a daughter of the late Theodore and Louise (Jones) Kenthack.

She worked for the past eight years at Pottstown Foot & Ankle Health Group.

She was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church in Pottstown, and the Lutheran Church Women.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Roxann Biggs.

Surviving are her husband, Robert R.; sons ; Christopher R., Matthew E. and Timothy T., all of Lower Pottsgrove Township; sisters , Karen Williams and Wynona Yazwinsky, both of Drums, Butler Township; and brother, Theodore, Mountaintop.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from St. James Lutheran Church, 1101 High St., Pottstown, with the Rev. Dodd Lamberton and the Rev. Cynthia Kolb officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Catagnus Funeral Home, 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. James Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

JOHN ROGALLA

April 17, 1999

John F. Rogalla, 81, of Wyoming, died Saturday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Duryea, he was the son of the late Frank and Stefania (Stankiewich) Rogalla.

He was a graduate of Duryea High School and the University of Scranton.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Before his retirement he was employed as a civil engineer by the Army Corps of Engineers. He was the project engineer for Tioga-Hammond Lakes and was active in the Agnes recovery program, serving as coordinator for the Army Corps Engineers.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Duryea.

He previously resided in Tunkhannock. He resided in Wyoming for nine years.

He played professional football for the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants as a fullback. He was named to the University of Scranton Football Hall of Fame and the Scranton Area Hall of Fame.

He was a member of the Emmanon Country Club, Falls; the American Legion Post 585, Duryea; and the Knights of Columbus, Pittston.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Frances Moleski Rogalla; brothers , Charles and Stanley Rogalla; sisters , Helen Franko, Edna and Sylvia Williams.

Surviving are his daughter, Andrea Gowetski, Edgewood, Md.; brother, Edward Rogalla, Michigan; sisters , Nora Rogalla, Anne Chromey and Clara Palumbo, all of Duryea; three grandchildren; two great-grandsons; nieces and nephews.

Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Holy Rosary Church, Duryea, with the Rev. Charles Rokosz officiating.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Mountain View Cemetery, Harding.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to the University of Scranton Athletic Department.

Arrangements are by the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home, Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea.
