Yetta Rubenstein
FLORENCE — Graveside service for Yetta C. Rubenstein, 81, formerly of Columbia and Orangeburg, will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. in Beth Shalom Cemetery, Whaley Street, in Columbia. Mrs. Rubenstein, wife of the late Mordie Rubenstein, and long known as the "Hat Box Lady," died Saturday, December 11, 2004. Born in Olar and raised in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late Nathan and May Crowetz. Mrs. Rubenstein lived in Orangeburg for forty-eight years, and for twenty of those years she owned the Hat Box, a business which she sold in 1973. During retirement, she enjoyed all of her friends in Orangeburg, playing bridge and golf, the Garden Club, traveling and creating masterpieces in watercolors.
In 1998 Mrs. Rubenstein moved to Columbia where she lived at Atria, Forest Lake. In 2003 she moved to Florence where she lived the Heritage Home.
Surviving are her daughters, Anna R. Polk and her husband, Jim, of Florence and W. Tina Rubenstein of Columbia; brother, Irving Crowetz of Lake City, Fla.; grandpets, Spanky, Sweet Pea, Stinky, Cole, Benny and Blue. She is also survived by her former housekeeper, Alice Colter and sitters, Jackie McFadden and Peaches Wilborn.
Sara Wallace
MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. — Sara “Sally” Nancy R. Wallace, 64, of Morehead City died Friday, December 10, 2004, at Harborview Health Care Center in Morehead City, NC. Sally was born August 11, 1940, in Cheraw, SC to the late Henry A. Ripplemeyer, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Retired, and Georgia Pittman Ripplemeyer. She was a member of Greystone Baptist Church in Durham. She was a 1958 graduate of Dreher High School, Columbia, South Carolina.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2005 at First Baptist Church, Morehead City, with the pastor, the Rev. Charles Royal officiating.
Survivors: husband, E.C. “Mickey” Wallace; daughter, Pamela W. Barr and husband, Patrick, of Gastonia; son, E.C. “Eddie” Wallace, II, and wife, Lori, of Newport; brother, Andy Ripplemeyer of Memphis, TN; sister, Cathy Beckham and husband, David, of St. Matthews, SC. She is also survived by one niece and five nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Harriett R. Wood.
Sally was a survivor of Pearl Harbor attack on 7 December 1941, as her father was stationed at Hickman Field, Hawaii. She was a member of the DAR and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Sally had worked at Duke Hospital in Durham for a number of years as a medical secretary and also with the Durham and Franklin County Services.

Mrs. Ray, widow of Norman Ray, died Saturday, December 11, 2004. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Eunice Dennis Dial.

Alice Chainey
FORSYTH, Ga. — Alice Bertha “Heise” Chainey, 88, died Friday, December 10, 2004. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, December 12, 2004 at Monroe County Memorial Chapel.
Mrs. Chainey was born in Columbia, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin William and Willie Alice Clark Heise. Her husband, Earl Sullivan Chainey, Jr. and her daughter, Shirley Ann Reynolds preceded her in death. Mrs. Chainey was a retired textile worker. She was a former member of Crussell FreemanChurch of Atlanta, a member of Mable White Baptist Church, a member of Senior Friends, a member of Georgia Association of the Deaf, Senior Citizens of the Deaf and South Carolina Association of the Deaf.
Mrs. Chainey is survived by her children, Lee West, Fredrick, Maryland, Carol Faiss, Forsyth, Bonnie Chainey, Albany, New York and Sullivan Chainey, III, Meansesville, Georgia; ten grandchildren and twenty-two great-grand-children.
