Dessie Wilson

COLUMBIA — Private family services for Mrs. Dessie DuBose Wilson, 68, of Columbia, will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Wilson, widow of Melvin Wilson, died Sunday, December 19, 2004. Born in Manning, SC, she was a daughter of the late Sinclaire Deashamp DuBose and Elizabeth Frierson DuBose.

Survivors include: son, Adam William Wilson and wife Susan; daughters, Nealer Diane Monts and husband, Jesse, Melinda Carol Lybrand and husband Dennis, Karen Lathan and husband Edward and Tabatha Marie Wilson; grandchildren, Lester Ray Porter, III and wife Ashleigh, Jeremy Lee Wilson, Chastity Lynn Wilson, Melissa Denise Lybrand, Michael Lee Wilson, Tokoya Lynn Wilson, Kristen Wilson, Isaac Samuel Wilson, Nicky Wilson, Rusty Wilson; great grandchildren, Ashlie Porter, Shane Porter and Jaden Porter, Joshua Wilson and Kaylie Wilson. Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her sons, Melvin Ray Wilson and Melvin Leroy Wilson.

Rev. Richard Abel

CLINTON — Reverend Richard E. Abel, 74, of Clinton died Saturday, December 18th in the Self Regional Healthcare.

He was born in Hammond, IN, and was the son of the late Ezra and Martha Kemp Abel.

Rev. Abel was a graduate of Columbia Bible College and pastored churches throughout South Carolina. His last pastorate was Hurricane Baptist Church. He served on the Board of Trustees at Anderson College and was the Director of Missions for the Reedy River Baptist Association. He was also a Korean War U.S. Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey Perry Abel of the home; four sons, David Abel, Mark Abel, Daniel Abel and Timothy Abel; two daughters, Joy Holloway and Marilee White; two brothers, Ronald Abel and Terry Abel; four sisters, June Gebauer, Juanita Brown, Judy Simons and Sue Pulley and fourteen grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Jonathan Abel, a grandson, Jonathan White and a brother, Robert Abel.

A private graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Hurricane Baptist Church Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday in the Hurricane Baptist Church in Clinton, SC.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Richard E. Abel Family Life Center at Hurricane Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering; c/o Hurricane Baptist Church, 2763 Hurricane Church Rd., Clinton, SC 29325.

Virgaree Anderson

GILBERT — Services with burial for Virgaree Anderson, daughter of Queenie and James Gary, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark Baptist Church. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. today at Walters-Davis Funeral Home, Batesburg. She died Dec. 16, 2004. Surviving are sisters, Elizabeth Royster, Lorraine Hopper.

Mary Beach

HARLEYVILLE — Mary Clark Beach, wife of Wilbur (Bill) Beach entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 20, 2004, peacefully at their home.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday December 22, 2004, at Bryant Funeral Home with Rev. John Hucks officiating. Interment will follow in the Harleyville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wade Clark, Jr., Edmund Beach, Bruce Coker, Dana Beach, David Beach, and Vance Beach.

Mrs. Beach was born August 1, 1935, in Garfield, Georgia, a daughter of the late Ray and Georgia Johnson Clark. She was a former office manager for Beach Brothers Trucking Company and a member of the Harleyville Southern United Methodist Church.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at their residence, 423 West Main St, Harleyville, SC.

Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Wilbur Norton Beach, of the home, daughters, Merilyn B. (Sherman) Albergotti, St. George, and Catherine B. Walters, Goose Creek.

A grandson, Phillip H. Albergotti, Columbia, and a granddaughter, Catherine N. Albergotti, St. George. A brother, Wade H. (Brenda) Clark, Mt. Pleasant, and a sister, Joann (Louis) Martin, Livingston, Texas , and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and in-laws.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice or Hospice Care of Charleston, 3870 Leeds Ave., Suite 101, Charleston, SC 29405.

Ryan Allen

CHAPIN — Ryan Edward Allen, 23, died Saturday, December 18, 2004.

Born August 25, 1981, he was the son of Tony W. Allen and the late Sandra Wilson Allen. He was employed by F.M. Manufacturing.

He is survived by his father and brother, Kyle Allen, both of Chapin.

Annie Chesney

CHESTER — Services for Annie G. Chesney, 85, retired from B.C. Moores, 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Lowry’s, where she was a member; burial: Chester Memorial Gardens; visitation 6-7:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home. Born in Chester Co. to Sid and Ophelia Carter Gaddy, she died Dec. 20, 2004. Surviving are husband, Ralph; son, A.B. “Buddy” Courtney; grand, great-grandchildren.

Jeffrey Arant

COLUMBIA — Services for Jeffrey Craig Arant, 44, of Columbia, will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, officiated by Rev. C. Clark McCrary, III. Burial will follow in Olympia Cemetery, The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. There will be a memorial concert from 10 am -12 noon Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at Palmetto Richland Memorial Park-Center for Cancer Treatment and Research.

Mr. Arant died Sunday, December 19, 2004. Born in Columbia, he was a son of Donald A. Arant and Sherrie Spigner Swygert. Mr. Arant was a football player at Chapin High School and graduated in 1978. He was a steel worker and bred and raised Dobermans.

Surviving, in addition to his father of Gilbert, and mother and step-father, Frank Swygert of Palm City, FL, are his son, Jeffrey Craig Arant, Jr. of Surfside Beach, SC; sister, Melanie Arant Fisher and her husband, Gardner of Atlanta, GA; brothers, Randy Arant of Columbia, Jay Canup and his wife, Julie of Atlanta, GA, maternal grandmother, Myrtle Spigner of Lexington; nieces and nephew, Ashley Fisher, Luke Fisher, Jacqueline “Jackie” Jayne Canup; and fiance, Taylor.

Mr. Arant was predeceased by his stepmother, Evelyn B. Arant.

Mr. Arant was the “funniest man” in town, was dearly loved and will be missed greatly.

Ellie Chavis

BENNETTSVILLE — Mr. Ellie H. Chavis Sr., 90, died December 18, 2004, in Kenner, LA. Born in Marlboro County, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Chavis.

Surviving are his son, Ellie H. Chavis Jr. of Kenner, LA; daughters, Robin Virtue of Malvern, OH, Elizabeth Herman of Trinity, TX; sister, Ester Driggers of Bennettsville.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at noon in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery with visitation from 11-noon at the church. Norton Funeral Home of Cheraw is serving the Chavis family.

Oscar Green

MANNING — Services for Oscar H. Green, 89, son of Viola McClellan, WWII veteran, retired from Wateree Community Action, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Greater Non-Denominational Church, where he was a member. Fleming & Delaine Funeral Home is in charge. He died December 16, 2004. Surviving are his children, Casper Simon Sr., Ophelia Green; adopted daughter, Deborah Terry.

Hennison Hartley Sr.

GEORGETOWN — Services for Hennison “Cowboy” Hartley Sr., 65, 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rose Hill Baptist Church; visitation is 6-8 tonight at Graham Funeral Home. Born in Berkeley Co. to Minor and Maggie Hartley Hartley, he died Dec. 19, 2004. Surviving: wife, Sally; children, William Hartley Jr., Sylvia Cromer, Marie Hernandez; stepchildren, Francis Honyotski, Debra Barnhill; siblings; grandchildren.
