Mary Taylor

MONCKS CORNER — Services for Mary M. Taylor, 100, will be noon Wednesday at Moncks Corner AME Church; burial in St. James Cemetery. Visitation is from 3-8 p.m. today at Gethers Funeral Home. Born in Berkeley County, she died December 16, 2004. She was a member of Moncks Corner AME Church. Surviving are her children, James Taylor, Lula Doiley, Samuel Taylor and Eloise Taylor.

Hilda Westmoreland

COLUMBIA — Graveside services for Hilda Cloyd Westmoreland, 77, of Columbia, will be held 1 o’clock today in Elmwood Cemetery, officiated by The Reverend Alan Powell. The family will receive friends from 10:30 o’clock until noon today at Shives Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to White Oak Manor, 3001 Beechaven Road, Columbia, SC 29204.

Mrs. Westmoreland died Sunday, December 19, 2004. Born in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late James Andrew and Estelle Lane Cloyd. She was a charter member of Harrison Road Baptist Church. In her younger years, she worked as a hairdresser with Providence Hospital, and later was self-employed as a cosmetologist. Mrs. Westmoreland was a loving mother, grandmother and wife.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Frank L. Westmoreland, Sr., daughters, Linda Kay Westmoreland of Chapin and Nancy Sue Westmoreland and her husband, Jason McKinney of West Columbia; son, Frank L. Westmoreland, Jr., and his wife, Cindy of Cayce; sisters, Peggy, Janice and Freddie Jo; 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren.

Adeline Yandle

COLUMBIA — Adeline “Laddie” Edith Crosby Yandle died Sunday, December 19, 2004. Visitation will be at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, between 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21, 2004, and family will receive friends at 2213 Percival Road at other times. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at 2:00 p.m., at Alpine Baptist Church (Corner of Alpine & Percival Roads), with interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Leesburg Road. The Rev. C.A. Fleming and the Rev. Rick Kirchinger will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Chris Yandle, Teague Yandle, Corey Yandle, Eddie Johnson, Brian Yandle, Joey Yandle and Jimmy Crosby, Jr.

Mrs. Yandle was born on May 19, 1931, in Columbia, to the late James Odom and Lillian Iceline Crosby. She ran the family garbage business until retiring in 1987. She has spent her life caring for others, raising children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Alpine Baptist Church where she attended faithfully when her health permitted.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years (December 24, 1948), Jack Elvin Yandle; two sons, Homer E. (Sharon Wright) Yandle and Ronnie E. (Debbie) Yandle, two daughters, Sharon Y. (Jimmy) Johnson and Darlene Yandle Goff, 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, sister, Irene C. Yandle and brother, James D. Crosby, and her childhood friend, Claudia Shealy. She was preceded in death by baby, Jacqueline Faye Yandle and brother, Paul A. Crosby.

Memorials can be made to Alpine Baptist Church. Our special thanks to the nursing staff of ICU and IICU Providence Hospital Forest Drive, Dr. Frederic Smith and Dr. Sarkis Derderian.

William Yarborough

CHESTER — Services for William Montgomery “Monty” Yarborough, 51, U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, retired from Springs Industries, are 11 a.m. Wednesday (10 a.m. visitation) at Barron Funeral Home; burial: Spence Family Cemetery. Born in Chester Co. to Harold Yarborough and Helen Spence Yarborough Gibson, he died Dec. 19, 2004. Surviving is stepbrother, David Gibson.

Kenneth Young

SALLEY — Mr. Lonnie Kenneth Young Sr., 80, of 436 John Nunn Highway, entered into rest Monday, December 20th, 2004, from the Lexington Medical Center.

Mr. Young was born in Aiken County. He was the son of the late Lenward H. Young, Sr. and Iola Poole Young. He was preceded in death by a brother, Karthel Young. Mr. Young was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of Rocky Grove Baptist Church, a farmer and retired from Savannah River Plant after 22 years as a carpenter.

Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Daisy Yon Young of Salley, sons and daughters-in-law Danny and Barbara Young and, Lonnie K. Young Jr. and Glenda all of Salley, daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Bob Ethridge, sisters, Norma Whetstone of West Columbia, Iris Lake of Belleview, FL. and, Myrtle Quattlebaum of Blackville, brothers, Glen Young and L. H. “Sonny” Young Jr., both of Salley, 6 grandchildren, Heather Solaro, Monica Franklin, David, Todd, Justin and Robert Young, and 4 great-grandchildren, Daisy, Drew and Savannah Young and Joel Franklin.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 21st from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wagener Chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home, 153 South Main St., Wagener, S.C. (803) 564-5333. The funeral service will be Wednesday, December 22nd at 3:00 p.m. at the Rocky Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend John O'Cain officiating. Mr. Young will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society at 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

Della Dukes

KINGSTREE — Services with burial for Della McCullough Dukes, 83, widow of Marvin Dukes, are 11 a.m. Wednesday: St. Mark AME Church. Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Williamsburg Co. to Mose and Lizzie McCullough, she died Dec. 18, 2004. Surviving: children, Thomas, Rev. Olin, Slyvester, Sulester, Joseph and Solomon Dukes, Roberta Brown, Sarah Smith; grand, great-grandchildren.

Murray Adams

CADES — Services for Murray Adams, 87, widower of Annie Epps Adams, 2 p.m. Wednesday: St. Paul AME Church, burial: Poston Cemetery. Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, Kingstree, is in charge. Born in Kingstree to Bruce and Easter Adams, he died Dec. 17, 2004. Surviving: daughters, Luretha Thomas, Alberta Mithcell, Mildred Page; sister, Ellaree Mouzon; 10 stepsiblings; grand, great, great-great-grandchildren.

Bertice Teague

WHITMIRE — Bertice McCollum Teague, 89, widow of Gilliam Senn Teague, Sr. died Sunday, December 19th.

She was born in Newberry and was the daughter of the late John Berry and Leila Adams McCollum.

Mrs. Teague was retired after 25 years from Roche Pharmacy, was a member of the Whitmire United Methodist Church, a member of the Mabel W. Douglas Sunday School Class and a was member of the Biographical Club.

She is survived by three sons, Gilliam S. Teague, Jr. of Greensboro, NC, John David Teague of Irmo and Willie Senn Teague of Columbia and Mebane, NC; one daughter, Bertice T. Robinson of Spartanburg; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; five nephews and one niece.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Ival Cromer, Gladys Smart and Sarah Bess Smith.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in the Whitmire United Methodist Church with interment in the Whitmire Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Whitmire United Methodist Church, the Ebenezer Fund, C/O the Whitmire United Methodist Church or Palmetto Health Hospice, P.O. Box 352, Newberry, SC 29108.

Joseph Daniels

FLORENCE — Joseph P. “Pete” Daniels, 81, of Florence, SC, formerly of Hopewell, VA, died Monday morning, December 20, 2004, in a Florence hospital after an illness.

Mr. Daniels was born in Florence County, SC, a son of the late William Harley and Mary Emma Poston Daniels. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Co. K, 133rd Regiment of the 34th Infantry. While serving his country, he was the recipient of two Purple Hearts. He retired as Laboratory Supervisor for Hercules Chemical Co. in Hopewell, VA. He was a member of Hoffmeyer Road Baptist Church in Florence. He was a member of the Woodlawn Presbyterian Church in Hopewell where he served as an Elder and a Deacon and in numerous other leadership roles. He had been actively involved in various community service projects including nursing home visitations.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by his first wife, Mary Virginia Gerald Daniels; by a daughter, Linda Daniels Jackson; by 5 brothers, Delton C. Daniels, Ted C. Daniels, Sam Lewis Daniels, William Y. Daniels and Aubrey O. Daniels; and by 2 sisters, Lois D. Ward and Mary L. Durant.

Surviving are his wife, Grace LeGrand Daniels of the home; 1 son, Phillips Dean (Susan) Daniels of Blackstone, VA; 1 stepson, Ward Greenlaw of Raleigh, NC; 2 sisters-in-law, Doris Daniels of Florence, SC, and Carabelle Daniels of Atlanta, GA; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Hoffmeyer Road Baptist Church Youth Fund, 2317 Hoffmeyer Road, Florence, SC 29501.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends afterwards until 9:00 p.m. A visitation will be held at the Nelson Funeral Home, Hopewell, VA, on Wednesday evening. Graveside services will be held in the Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens in Hopewell, VA, on Thursday, December 23, 2004.

Jerry Campbell

FLORENCE — Carl Gerald “Jerry” Campbell, 80, of Florence, SC, died Sunday morning, December 19, 2004, in a Florence hospital after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Campbell was born in Luverne, Alabama, a son of the late Euell and Freda Rodgers Campbell. He retired in 1989 as a Commission Agent for Greyhound Lines, having served that company for forty years.

Mr. Campbell was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. At the conclusion of the war, he joined the U.S. Army Reserves and retired after thirty years of combined service. During his military service, he was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, the POW Medal and the Meritorious Service Badge with the Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3181, a member of the Hampton Lodge #204 A.F.M. and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Josephine “Jo” Pierce Campbell of the home; 1 daughter, Carla (Charlie) White of Florence; 1 son, Jay (Elizabeth) Campbell of Florence; 2 sisters, Bonnie Franklin of Montgomery, Alabama, and Jean Piper of Belding, Michigan; 5 grandchildren, Heather (Kevin) Bryant, Pierce (Helen) Campbell, Benton Campbell, Gene Campbell and Mary Amanda Campbell; 4 great-grandchildren, Kristina Rabon, Kayla Rabon, Kelsi Bryant and Kaster Bryant; and 2 stepgrandchildren, Benjamin White and Douglas White.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 2210 Hoffmeyer Road, Florence, SC 29501, or to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery with Military Honors.
