Lillie Steen

LANCASTER - Mrs. Lillie Wright Steen, 78, of 2132 Great Falls Highway died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Revs. Thomas Self and Clarence Adkins officiating. Burial will be at Union Hall Baptist Church cemetery in Pageland.

Born in Chesterfield County, Mrs. Steen was a homemaker and the widow of Woodrow Steen.

Surviving are four sons, Carson Steen, Dewey Steen, Clyde Steen and Howard Steen, all of Lancaster; two daughters, Shirley Matthews and Judy Baldwin, both of Lancaster; her sister, Jermaine Cromer of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Clarsie Terry

LANCASTER - Mrs. Clarsie Parker Terry, 80, of 1659 Summit Ave. died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at her home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Lancaster Memorial Park, with the Rev. Charles Hendrix officiating.

Born in Columbus County, N.C., Mrs. Terry was a homemaker and a retired employee of Springs Industries. She was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Betty Williams of Lancaster; her brother, Mack Parker of Red Springs, N.C.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lancaster, 800 Meeting St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Cletis Williams

LANCASTER - Mr. Cletis Dudley "C.D." Williams, 92, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Shane Patrick and Roy Barnes officiating. Burial will be at Westside Cemetery.

Born in the Holly Springs community of Spartanburg County, Mr. Williams attended North Greenville Academy. He graduated from Furman University in 1925 and did postgraduate work at the University of South Carolina. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, Sunday school director, teacher, trustee and chairman of various committees. In 1985, he was elected honorary life deacon. He taught a Bible class on a weekly radio ministry on station WAGL. He was a member of the Lancaster Lions Club, the S.C. Education Association, the National Education Association and the Lancaster Association of Retired Educators. For several years, he was leadership training director for the Boy Scouts and was Lancaster District Chairman. He was principal of Chesterfield Avenue Elementary School for 34 years and principal of Central School during World War II. He was the widower of Florrie Farr Williams.

Surviving are two sons, Douglas Williams of Lancaster and Dudley Williams of Columbia; his daughter, Angeline Young of Bamberg; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service and at other times at the home of Douglas Williams, 1710 Partridge Circle.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church building fund, 300 S. Market St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Sadie Wright

EDGEMOOR - Mrs. Sadie Kirby Wright, 61, of 1574 Crows Nest Drive died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Lando Church of God, with the Rev. C. L. Simons officiating. Burial will be at Lando Cemetery.

Born in Chester, Mrs. Wright was a homemaker and was retired from Manetta Mills, where she worked for more than 35 years in the spinning and twisting departments. She was of the Baptist faith. She was the widow of David Wright.

Surviving are her son, David Reynolds of the home; her daughter, Renee Cooper of Charlotte; eight grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Lando Church of God building fund, S.C. 901, Lando, SC 29712.

George Anthony

ROCK HILL - Mr. George L. Anthony, 75, of 1613 Stonehill Place died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A Rock Hill native, Mr. Anthony was a graduate of Winthrop Training School. He was a First Lieutenant in Europe during World War II and was a member of the American Legion. He was retired from Rosson and Richards of Charlotte.

Surviving are his wife, Joan Silverberg Anthony; his son, Stephen G. Anthony of Hilton Head; his daughter, Donna Anthony Givens of Rock Hill; his sister, Margie Anthony Faris of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2711 Middleburg Drive, Columbia, SC 29204.

Julia Campbell

LANCASTER - Mrs. Julia Elizabeth Walden Campbell, 85, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kevin Cooley officiating. Burial will be at Westside City Cemetery.

Born in Lancaster County, Mrs. Campbell was retired from Springs Industries, having worked in the Lancaster plant's spinning department. She was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church.

She was the widow of J.B. Campbell.

Surviving are two brothers, Luther Walden of Marietta, Ga., and DeWitt Walden of Lancaster; and her sister, Roxie Jordan of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her brother DeWitt Walden, 205 Azalea Road.

Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church building fund, 2217 Airport Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

George Cooper

GREAT FALLS - Mr. George Edward "Eddie" Cooper, 49, of Mitford Road died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Second Baptist Church, with Dr. Todd Morris and the Revs. C.O. Belk and Tony Medlin officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Born in Chester, Mr. Cooper was a fabrication supervisor with G.M. Name Plate Co. in Monroe, N.C. He attended Great Falls schools. He was a Marine Corps veteran, a member of Second Baptist Church, a member of Great Falls Masonic Lodge No. 277, a member of Hejaz Shrine Temple and a member of the Great Falls Shrine Club.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Lynn Cooper; two sons, Michael Edward Cooper and Elbert John Cooper, both of the home; his daughter, Melody Hope Cooper of the home; and his brother, Wayne Cooper of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

David Gardner

ATLANTA - Mr. David E. Gardner, formerly of Rock Hill, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, in Atlanta.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Radcliff Presbyterian Church, 290 Hightower Road, with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Green officiating.

Born in Thomasville, Ga., Mr. Gardner graduated from S.C. State University and did graduate work at North Carolina A & T University in Greensboro, N.C. He was a member of Hermon Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill before joining Radcliff Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. He was a member of the South Carolina and Georgia National Education associations. He was an industrial arts teacher at Emmett Scott High School in Rock Hill and a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Calhoun Gardner; his son, Franklin C. Gardner of Atlanta; his brother, Nathaniel Gardner of Philadelphia; and three sisters, Rose Pinkney of Philadelphia, Minnie Smith of Thomasville, Ga., and Rita Callender of New York City.

Sellers Brothers Funeral Home in Atlanta is in charge.

James Hendricks

YORK - Mr. James Bruce Hendricks, 61, of 998 Daves Road died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Born in Pickens County, Mr. Hendricks was retired from Duke Power's Catawba Plant. He was a member of Griffin Baptist Church near Pickens, a member of Corinthian Lodge No. 416 A.F.M. in Rock Hill and the Hejaz Temple of the Shrine in Greenville.

Surviving are his wife, Velda Stone Hendricks; two sons, Charles Melvin Hendricks of Huntersville, N.C., and Phillip David Hendricks of the home; and his daughter, Tonya Reene Hendricks of the home.

Dillard Memorial Funeral Home is in charge.

Rufus LaFoy

MOORESVILLE, N.C. - Mr. Rufus B. LaFoy, 85, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at Mooresville Center Genesis Elder Care.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at McEwen Funeral Home in Charlotte, with the Rev. Jimmy Howard officiating. Burial will be at Sharon Memorial Park.

Surviving are two sons, Robert D. LaFoy of Fort Mill and Benny W. LaFoy of Indian Trail, N.C.; two daughters, Peggy Bailes of Fort Mill and Vickie Ernsberger of Mooresville; two sisters, Inez Culp and Nannie Frye, both of Pineville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at McEwen Funeral Home.

Robert Lindemann

ROCK HILL - Mr. Robert L. Lindemann, 76, of 2346 Raven Drive died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at his home.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Woodland United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Delbert Regier officiating.

A native of Chicago, Mr. Lindemann was a retired sales manager for the Continental Can Co., now Sonoco Products, Inc. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he fought in the European theater. He was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Treva Miller Lindemann; two sons, Jeffrey L. Lindemann of Dallas and Dr. Robert C. Lindemann of Rock Hill; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the church after the service and at other times at the home.

GASTONIA, N.C. - Ms. Florence "Flo" Shavers Richards, 80, of ARP Manor died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at Wesley Care Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mike Newton officiating. Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park.

A Phenix City, Ala., native, Ms. Richards was retired from Pharr Yarns.

Surviving are her daughter, Priscilla "Pat" Atkins of Fort Mill; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Service and at other times at the home of Earl Teeter, her brother-in-law, 914 Home Trail, Gastonia.

Thomas Smith Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Thomas J. "T.J." Smith Sr., 67, of 640 Simpson St. died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at his home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Rock Grove AME Zion Church, with the Revs. R.V. Washington, Ronal King and John Brown officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A Rock Hill native, Mr. Smith attended York County public schools. He was formerly employed by the city of Rock Hill, and attended Rock Grove AME Zion Church.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas James Smith Jr. of Rock Hill and Aaron Smith of Columbia; his daughter, Patricia A. Smith of Rock Hill; three brothers, Elliott Smith, Allen Crosby and Samuel Crosby, all of Rock Hill; eight sisters, Mildred Adams, Lena Porter, Janita Barnette, Louise B. Holt, Shirley Dickson and Katherine Chisholm, all of Rock Hill, Alberta Crosby of Rockway Center, N.Y., and Emma Crosby of Hempstead, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Thomas James Jr., 504 N. Confederate St. and at other times at 640 Simpson St.

The body may be viewed at Robinson Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday.

The body will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.
