Grover Toldon

CHARLOTTE — Mr. Toldon, age 75, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004, in Carolinas Medical Center - Mercy. Born July 5, 1929, in Phoenix City, AL, he was a son of the late Coulon and Lula Partain Toldon. Mr. Toldon was a warehouse manager of Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company where he was employed for 32 years.

A service to celebrate his life will be held 9:00 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2004, at McEwen Funeral Service - Charlotte Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 Noon in Southland Memorial Gardens of West Columbia, SC. The family received friends 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Chuck Crapps of Leesville, SC; son, Grover “Ray” Toldon of Charlotte; brother and sister-in-law, Grady and Luwana Toldon of Charlotte; and two grandchildren, Tiffany Nave and Matthew Nave, both of Columbia. In addition to his parents, Mr. Toldon was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jackson Toldon.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Inc., 222 S. Church Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.

Diane Reid

SURFSIDE BEACH — Diane Marie Andrews Reid, 59, passed away on the 19th of December 2004, after a heroic battle with brain cancer. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Burnt Gin for Handicapped Children, Attn: Marie Aimone, Box 101106, Columbia, SC 29211.

A memorial tribute will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2005, next to the Ashley River at White Point Gardens and the Ft. Sumter House “The Battery” in Charleston, SC.

Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Antoinette Weeks

GEORGETOWN — Services for Antoinette O. Weeks, 83, widower of Rupert Weekes, 1 p.m. Saturday at Soul Saving Station Church, burial: Morning Glory Cemetery. Visitation is 6 tonight at Wilds Funeral Home. Born in Barbados, West Indies, to John and Awennia Best, she died Dec. 26, 2004. Surviving: daughters, Ianthe Easton, Cora Lee Watkins, Rueanne Valentine; 14 grandchildren; 17 great, 1 great-great-grandchild.

Deyshawn Sampson

WINNSBORO — A graveside service for Deyshawn Terell Sampson, infant, will be held at 11 a.m. today in Blackjack Baptist Church Cemetery. Glover’s Memorial Chapel is in charge. Born December 26, 2004, Deyshawn died December 28, 2004. Surviving are mother, Tiffany Mackey; father, Detrick Sampson; sister, Angel Mackey; other relatives and friends.

Sarah Mullinax

WEST PELZER — Sarah Revis Mullinax, 75, of 37 Dendy Street, widow of Mayes Demarcus Mullinax, Sr., died Sunday, January 2, 2005 in Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Laura Casey Revis. She was a homemaker and member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Chaddock and her husband, Kahn Chaddock of Chapin; son, Mayes D. Mullinax, Jr. of Piedmont; 2 sisters, Frances Bryson of Piedmont, Sue Cothran of Belton; 2 grandchildren; 4 stepgrandchildren, and 1 great-grandson.

Funeral services will be 3 pm Tuesday at Gray Mortuary Chapel with Dr. James Norris officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family is at the home and will receive friends from 2-3 pm at the funeral home prior to services.

Harvey Teal

HARTSVILLE — Funeral services for Harvey Shannon Teal, 86, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. Pat Orr, the Rev. Bud Boatwright and the Rev. Richard Turnage will officiate with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Monday, January 3, 2005 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association BTC 009, 181 East Evans St., Suite 206, Florence, SC 29506; National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Suite 105, 2711 Middleburg Dr., Columbia, SC 29204; Bethlehem United Methodist Church.

Mr. Teal died Sunday, January 2, 2005. Born in Hartsville, SC, he was a son of the late William Archie and Suzanna Hawkins Teal. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, served on the Administrative Board, and was a trustee and lay leader. He was retired from Sonoco Products Co. with 41 years of service and was a member of the Old Timers Club. He was a director with the Farm Bureau, a director with the Lakeview Club, and a member of the Antioch Young Farmers.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Bernice Turnage Teal of Hartsville, SC; sons, Billy Teal and Franklin Teal, both of Hartsville, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Kenneth Waddell of Hartsville, SC; sisters, Mary Stackhouse of Columbia, SC, Dot Hendrix of Hartsville, SC; brother, Warren Teal of Pinehurst, NC; grandchildren, Shannon Teal, Richard Waddell, Shawn Teal, Chris Waddell, Billie Jo Teal Roling, Brad Teal; great-grandchildren, Blake Teal, Savannah Teal, Teal Waddell, Jenna Teal.

Norma Biumi

GREENWOOD — Services for Norma Jean Stewart Biumi, 98, widow of Harold Biumi and Maxie Stewart, are noon Tuesday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Harley Funeral Home; burial in Reedy Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. Born in Ware Shoals to Robert and Marry Butler, she died Jan. 1, 2005. Surviving are mother; sons, Marion, Thomas, Maxie Stewart; four siblings; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Virginia Beverly

YORK — A graveside service for Virginia Harris Beverly, 82, will be held at 11 a.m. today in Lakeview Memory Gardens with visitation to follow at 1:30 p.m. at 28880 Legion Road, Smyrna. Bratton Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Corburn, Va. to Abram and Harriet Steffie Harris, she died Jan. 1, 2005. Surviving are daughters, Susie Whitesides, Jeanie Lipps, Patti Meece; sister, Elizabeth Puett; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Walter Brackett

CATAWBA — Services for Walter Lynwood Brackett, 64, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Lesslie Church of God. Visitation is 4-6 tonight at Fort Mill Funeral Home, Fort Mill. Born in Rock Hill to George and Juanita Davis Brackett, he died Dec. 31, 2004. Surviving are wife, Virginia S. Brackett; children, Theresa Sullivan, Connie Freeman, Thomas Funderburk; one brother; three sisters; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

BLYTHEWOOD — Services with burial for Patricia H. Brown, 53, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shady Grove AME Church. Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home, Winnsboro, is in charge. Born in Richland Co. to Joe Sr. and Ophelia Hudson, she died Dec. 30, 2004. Surviving are husband, Eddie Brown; children, Scottie Hudson, Frederick, Patricia Brown, Tiear Williams, Teresa Threatts; four brothers.

Alice Gilliams

GREENWOOD — Services for Alice Watson Gilliams, 70, are 2 p.m. (viewing 1 p.m.) Tuesday at Antioch Baptist Church with burial in Oakbrook Memorial Park. Butler & Sons Funeral Home, Saluda, is in charge. Born in Saluda Co. to Sam and Katie Lue Butler Watson, she died Dec. 30, 2004. Surviving: husband, James Gilliams; son, Jerome Jones; three brothers; two sisters; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Ada Fisher

BISHOPVILLE — Services for Ada Fisher will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. John A.M.E. Church. Visitation will be held at 541 Thomas St. Boatwright Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge. She died January 1, 2005.

Charles Goines

GREAT FALLS — Services for Charles Goines are 2 p.m. (viewing 1 p.m.) Tuesday at Paradise A.M.E. Zion Church; burial: Fairview AME Zion Church Cemetery. Additional viewing: 3-8 tonight, 9:30 a.m.-11:45 a.m. Tuesday at Christopher King's Funeral Home, Chester. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Leroy Goines and Marie Williams, he died Dec. 20, 2004. Surviving are wife, Bernice Cloud Goines; four children; others.

Willie Hawkins

NEWBERRY — William Houseal “Willie” Hawkins, 84, of 2706 Deloache Ave., Newberry, died Sunday, January 2, 2005 at his residence.

Mr. Hawkins was born on Feb. 14, 1920 in Newberry County, a son of the late Bloomer P. and Mary Elizabeth Sligh Hawkins. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in Guadalcanal. He was the retired owner of H & H Machine Shop and he was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golf, bridge, gardening and walking.

Mr. Hawkins is survived by his wife married for 58 years, Margaret Sligh Hawkins of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn H. and Robert Partridge of Newberry; a sister, Elizabeth Shannon of Newberry, a brother, Bloomer “Jack” Hawkins of Newberry; two grandchildren, Leslie Claire Davis of Union and Christine Leah Davis of Newberry. He was predeceased by five sisters, Margaret H. Boozer, Lillie H. Waters, Sara H. Wessinger, Mary H. Sease, and Ruth H. Lominack and three brothers, George P. Hawkins, R. Dudley Hawkins and Carl W. Hawkins.

Funeral services for William H. “Willie” Hawkins will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Miller. Interment will be in the Springdale Section of Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home and the family will be at the residence, 2706 Deloache Ave.

Memorial may be made to Central United Methodist Church, PO Box 67, Newberry SC 29108.
