Richard Sampson

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Richard Alan Sampson, 49, of 10525 Parkton Road died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at the home of his sister in Fort Mill.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. today at Wilgrove Air Care, 10525 Parkton Road, Charlotte.

A native of Port Townsend, Wash., Mr. Sampson was a son of Bobbie Smith Maldovan of Marshville, N.C., and the late Robert Sampson. He served two tours of duty in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was owner and operator of Wilgrove Air Care.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his son, Marland Sampson of Charlotte; two daughters, Lissa Sampson of Charlotte and Heather Sampson of Foresthill, Calif.; three sisters, Suzanne Blythe of Monroe, N.C., Becky Owen of Fort Mill, and Cheryl Sampson of Ojwiba, Wis.; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Richard Sampson Funeral Fund, c/o Wolfe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 190, Fort Mill, SC 29716.

Hazel Brown

CLOVER - Mr. Hazel Brown of Clover died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Jerusalem Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gayle Starr officiating.

Mr. Brown was a son of the late Edward Brown and Aredeller Brown.

Surviving are his wife, Odessa K. Brown; two brothers, Walter "Willie" Brown of Clover and Bobby Brown of Delaware; and his sister, Mary C. Williams of Greensboro, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Jerusalem Baptist Church and other times at 955 Drybrook Drive, Bowling Green.

Generation Funeral Home is in charge.

Harper Davis Sr.

YORK - Mr. Harper Jackson Davis Sr., 68, of 1955 Davis Farm Road died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Home AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Darial Jackson and the Rev. Dr. C.J. Jen-kins officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York, Mr. Davis was a son of the late Will Davis and Amanda Meeks Davis. He was a member of New Home AME Zion Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher, van driver, choir member and usher. He was a member of the NAACP and the White Hill Masonic Lodge No. 462. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict.

Surviving are his wife, Nelsie Thompson Davis; three sons, Harper Jackson Davis Jr. of the home, Rickey Davis of Oakland, Calif., and Larry Joe Davis of Rock Hill; two daughters, Valinda Dickerson and Betty D. Brown, both of Mount Pleasant; his brother, Roger Davis of York; three sisters, Sarah Graham of Gastonia, N.C., Thelma Paden of Rock Hill and Geraldine Byous of Los Angeles; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight at Wright Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Bertie Stone

CHESTER - Mrs. Bertie Delk Stone, 82, of Martha Franks Retirement Home in Laurens died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Beaver Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Terry Wingate and James Sanders officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Barnwell County, Mrs. Stone was a son of the late George Delk and Sallie Hartzog Delk. She was the widow of Jacob F. Stone Sr. A homemaker, Mrs. Stone was a graduate of Barnwell County Schools and attended Columbia Business College. She was a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, George Stone of Chester and Jacob F. Stone Jr. of Jacksonville, N.C.; two sisters, Dwise Huff of Louisville, Ky., and Thelma Williams of Blackville; her brother, Billy Delk of Blackwell; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Newton Barber

ROCK HILL - Mr. Newton R. "Big Daddy" Barber of 2070 Cornelius Road died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clyde Raymond officiating and the Rev. Betty Hicks assisting. Burial will be at Mount Calvary AME Zion Church cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Barber was a son of the late Eddie Barber and Alice Gettys Barber. He attended York County public schools. He was a farmer and member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, where he was a former member of the Hymn Choir. He also attended Mount Calvary AME Zion Church. He was a member of Center Emmanuel Burial Aid Society.

Surviving are his wife, Idell Barber; three sons, Eddie Barber Jr. of Rock Hill, Charles Barber of Albany, N.Y., and Newton Alfonzo Barber of Rock Hill; six daughters, Mary Feely, Geraldine Barber, Betty Brice, Dorothy Archie, Frances Reddic and Minnie McCullough, all of Rock Hill; two grandsons whom he reared, Gary Archie and Robert Barber, both of Rock Hill; his sister, Hattie Witherspoon of Rock Hill; 26 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and at other times at home.

The body will be taken to the church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Willa Huffstickler

RICHBURG - Mrs. Willa Huffstickler, 64, of 2196-B Mountain Gap Road died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at White Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Curtis Cameron officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Huffstickler was a daughter of the late Henry Frank McManus and Ola Arlene Stacks McManus. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are her husband, Billy Huffstickler; her son, Danny Huffstickler of Richburg; two daughters, Pat Pardue of Rock Hill and Deborah Caldwell of Columbia; two sisters, Lennie Carnes and Lottie Reynolds, both of Lancaster; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Sherry McGill

CLOVER - Miss Sherry Jo McGill, 35, of 2855 Highway 55 West died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at the home of her parents.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Smyrna ARP Church, with the Rev. Kyle Sims officiating and the Rev. Dwight Pearson assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of York, Miss McGill was a daughter of Carlyle McGill and Ruth Gilfillan McGill of Smyrna. She was an elementary school teacher at Kinard Elementary School in Clover. She also taught in McCormick and York. She earned her bachelor's degree in physical education and her master's degree in administration from Winthrop University. She was a member of Smyrna ARP Church, where she served as a deacon.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her fiance, Johnny Kay of Rock Hill; her brother, Mike McGill of Smyrna; two sisters, Lynn Montgomery and Gwen Thompson, both of Smyrna; two nieces and two nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.

Lyde McManus

GREAT FALLS - Mr. Lyde E. McManus, 78, of 55 Miles Road died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at Tanglewood Health Care Center in Ridgeway.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Revs. Larry Roberts and James Stevens officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Mr. McManus was a son of the late Judson McManus and Mary Ellen Carnes McManus. Educated in the Lancaster County schools, he was retired from J.P. Stevens.

Surviving are his wife, Ossie Martin McManus; two sons, James W. McManus of Great Falls and David L. McManus of Mississippi; two daughters, Teresa Warr of Great Falls and Hazel Robinson of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two sisters, Marie Thomas and Rosa Lane, both of Lancaster; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Myrtle Rollins

CHESTER - Mrs. Myrtle Lucille Rollins, 91, formerly of 1606 Pinckney Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at Chester County Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Barron Funeral Home, with the Revs. Hoyle Vinson, Clay Waldrip and Joey Beasley officiating. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Lancaster, Mrs. Rollins was a daughter of the late William Augustus Rollins and Minnie Broom Rollins. Mrs. Rollins was retired from Springs Industries and attended Lancaster County schools. She was a member of West Chester Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Jerry Donald Rollins of Taylors and Roger Bryan Rollins of Easley; her daughter, Martha Bagley of Chester; her brother, James A. Rollins of Lancaster; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Lula Sims

CHESTER - Mrs. Lula A. "Aunt Lu" Chalk Sims, 58, of 137 Center St. died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Eternal Rock Church, with Pastor Bernard Morris officiating and Prophet J.D. Hughes, the Revs. George Lowery Jr. and Donald Carter officiating. Burial will be at Christian Home Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Chester County, Mrs. Sims was a daughter of the late Lonnie Chalk Sr. and Josie B. Chalk. She joined Christian Home Baptist Church at an early age and later joined Eternal Rock Church. She attended the public schools of Chester County, She was a domestic worker.

Surviving are her husband, Edward Sims; four sons, Marion Sims of the home, Michael Sims, Bobby Sims and Johnny Sims, all of Chester; five daughters, Carol Sims, Tiffany Sims, Lisa Cousar and Vivian Givens, all of the home, and Edith Sims of Chester; her granddaughter whom she reared, Katina Sims of the home; three brothers, Arthur W. Chalk of Chester, Tommy Chalk and Wallace Chalk, both of Rock Hill; seven sisters, Lucille Joe, Janie McCoy, Shirley McClurkin, Gloria McClurkin and Brenda McCleave, all of Rock Hill, Josie Pressley and Mattie McClurkin, both of York; 19 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from noon to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Thomas Beam

CHESTER - Mr. Thomas Gerald "Jerry" Beam, 64, of 550 Second St. died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at home.

A graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Jody Foster officiating.

A native of York County, Mr. Beam was a son of the late Robert T. Beam and Annie Horne Beam. He was retired from Springs Industries and was a member of the Chester Unit of the South Carolina National Guard for 14 years.

Surviving are his wife, Johnette Jones Beam; his son, Michael B. Beam of Chester; two daughters, Frances M. Allen of Greenville and Susan B. Byars of Chester; his sister, Frances B. Mayben of Chester; six grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Wright's Home for Funerals.

Mary Biggs

FORT MILL - Mrs. Mary Caulfield Biggs, 83, of 2661 Highway 21, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Fort Mill, with the Revs. Dr. Robert Monson and Joe Tysinger officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

A native of Darby, England, Mrs. Biggs was a daughter of the late John W. Caulfield and Ada Appleyard Caulfield. She was the widow of Oliver M. Biggs. A homemaker, she was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Leonard Biggs of Fort Mill, John W. Biggs of Atlanta and Gary Biggs of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Joan Witt of Narrows, Va., and Betty Blankenship of Little River; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Wolfe Funeral Home and at other times at home.

Calvin Cook

LANCASTER - Mrs. Calvin Louise Gunter Cook, 83, of Lancaster, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mahaffey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. James D. Spencer III officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Asheville, Ala., Mrs. Cook was a daughter of the late Will Andrew Gunter and Myrtie Puttman Gunter. She was the widow of Ed Louis Cook. Mrs. Cook was a retired Avon sales representative and was a member of Second Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Robert L. Hulsey of Moncks Corner; her brother, William Edward Gunter of Pontiac, Mich.; and two sisters, Elizabeth Carter of Pervis, Miss., and Alma Gunter of Altoona, Ala.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Mahaffey Funeral Home.

Terence Coyne

ROCK HILL - Mr. Terence "Terry" Greaney Coyne, 54, of 2828 Lesslie Dale Road died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Shield of Faith Family Church, with the Rev. Dr. Larry Soles officiating. Burial will be private.

A native of Holliston, Mass., Mr. Coyne was a son of the late Leo Coyne and Bertha Greaney Coyne. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of Shield of Faith Family Church. He was a truck driver for CDI of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Teledyne in Richburg. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 34.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanette M. Coyne; two stepsons, John Mroczek of Oswego, Kan., and Jason Straub of Rock Hill; his stepdaughter, Tamara Mroczek of Vancouver, Wash.; two brothers, Norbert Coyne of Laconia, N.H., and Earl Brooks of Charlotte; his sister, Judith Brooks of Charlotte; and three stepgrandchildren.

The family will receive friends at home and at the church after the service.
