William Pearson

CHESTER - Mr. William Monroe "Kenny" Pearson, 60, of 2844 Rodman Road died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at Chester County Hospital.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. today at his home, with the Revs. Robert Black and Ray Koterta officiating.

A native of Chester, Mr. Pearson was a son of the late Charlie Pearson and the late Jessie Pearson. He was a member of the New Salem Church in Rock Hill and was a heavy equipment operator.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Pearson; two sons, William Pearson Jr. of Winnsboro and Brad Pearson of Great Falls; two daughters, Kim Sanders of Winnsboro and Jessica Pearson of Chester; his sister, Mildred Miller of Chester; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to New Salem Church, 327 Pickens St., Rock Hill, SC 29180.

Bernarda Scerri

FORT MILL - Mrs. Bernarda Scerri, 72, of Stone Village Drive died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Gemma's Parish in Detroit. Entombment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Mausoleum in Southfield, Mich.

Born in Malta, Mrs. Scerri was a daughter of the late Giovani and Margaretta Farrugia. Formerly of Redford, Mich., she was a member of the St. Gemma's Parish for more than 40 years. After recently moving to Fort Mill, she became a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.

Surviving are her husband, Pius Scerri; two sons, Anthony Scerri of Fort Mill and John Scerri of Westland, Mich.; three daughters, Rosalie Scerri of Westland; Mary Duston of Plymouth, Mich., and Margaret Stafford of Navato, Calif.; and her granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. at 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Schearder Funeral Home in Plymouth.

Wolfe Funeral Home is serving the family locally.

Robert Jones

LAKE WATEREE - Mr. Robert Jones, 52, of 857 Goat Hill Road died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital in Winnsboro.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at El Bethel United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Curtis Wells and Pam Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Born in San Francisco, Mr. Jones was a son of Walter Jones of Washington, D.C., and the late Alena Mae Scott Jones. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Winnsboro Masonic Lodge No. 11.

Surviving in addition to his father are his wife, Judy Jones of Lake Wateree; his son, Robert Jones Jr. of Spartanburg; his daughter, Jenny Jones of Lake Wateree; his sister, Barbara Brown of San Jose, Calif.; and his grandson.

The family will receive friends at the home of his mother-in-law, Margaret Faulkenberry, 5287 McFad-den Road in Fort Lawn.

Memorials may be made to El Bethel United Methodist Church.

Clara Marshall

HEATH SPRINGS - Mrs. Clara Rutledge Marshall, 94, of Heath Springs died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at White Oak Manor in Lancaster.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Pleasant Hill ARP Church, with the Revs. William Roberts, Dr. Roy Beckham and Carlos Gardner Jr. officiating. Interment will be at Salem Cemetery.

Born in Lancaster County, Mrs. Marshall was a daughter of the late William Oacar Rutledge and Emily Elizabeth Beckham Rutledge. She was a homemaker and member of Pleasant Hill ARP Church.

She was the widow of William Reece Marshall.

Surviving are five daughters, Annie Lee Catoe of Heath Springs, Clarice Bowers of Lugoff, Peggy Blackmon of Surfside Beach, Betty Cauthen of Lancaster and Mollie J. Moree of Fort Mill; her son, Keith C. Marshall of Columbia; her sister, Mollie Inez Rutledge of Heath Springs; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill ARP Church, 4383 Kershaw Camden Highway, Heath Springs, SC 29058.

Samuel Mendenhall

ROCK HILL - Mr. Samuel Brooks Mendenhall, 63, of 1756 Ebenezer Road died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at Ebenezer Presbyterian Associate Reform Church, with Dr. R. Boyce Wilson and Dr. John A. Basie officiating.

Born in Rock Hill, Mr. Mendenhall was a son of the late George Wallace Mendenhall and Margaret Love Good Mendenhall. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and University of South Carolina Law School.

Mr. Mendenhall was a Family Court judge until his retirement in 1992. He served four terms in the state House of Representatives and seven years in the state Senate. He was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Associate Reform Church, where he served as deacon and elder.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn King Mendenhall; his son, Robert Bratton Mendenhall of McConnells; his daughter, Mary Margaret Mendenhall-Cato of Cornelius, N.C.; his sister, Georgene M. Sherer of Wilmington, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Tony Pate

LANCASTER - Mr. Tony Jonathan "T.J." Pate, 23, of 511 Shiloh Unity Road died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger Gosnell officiating. Entombment will be at Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Born in Lancaster County, Mr. Pate was a son of Kathy Smith Denton and the late Tony Mitchell Pate. The owner and operator of All Southern Construction, he was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his stepfather, Glenn Denton of the home; his maternal grandparents, the Rev. and Mrs. Ansel Smith of Lancaster; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Pate of Lancaster; and his great-grandmother, Vera Elizabeth Turner.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home. The family will be at the home of his maternal grandparents,

Great Falls Highway, Lancaster.

Willie Privette

LANCASTER - Mr. Willie Farris Privette, 77, of 1693 Flat Creek Road died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Lancaster Convalescent Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hartley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tony Adams officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

Born in Lancaster County, Mr. Privette was a son of the late Fernando Vernon Privette and Frances Robinson Privette. He was retired from Springs Industries.

Surviving are his wife, Lois Cauthen Privette; his brother, Hazel Privette of Lancaster; and three sisters, Jackie Neely and Jean Knight, both of Lancaster, and Dale Willoughby of Surfside Beach.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Rebecca Robinson

KERSHAW - Mrs. Rebecca Elliott Seegars Robinson, 87, of 212 Asgill Lane died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at home.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Thorn Hill Baptist Church, with the Revs. John Davis and Jerry Satterfield officiating. Burial will be at Bethany Baptist Church cemetery.

Born in Kershaw, Mrs. Robinson was a daughter of the late Will E. Elliott and Sara Rebecca West Elliott. A homemaker, Mrs. Robinson was a member of Thorn Hill Baptist Church.

She was the widow of Jesse C. Seegars and Hartsell Robinson.

Surviving are two sons, Bert Seegars of Florence and Gerald Seegars of Kershaw; two daughters, Glenda Gay of Lancaster and Naomi Robertson of Kershaw; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home and other times at the home of Gerald and Naomi Robertson, 152 Asgill Lane.

Corrie Skinnell

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Corrie Aultice Skinnell, 98, formerly of Clover, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Forrest Lake Health Care in Martinez, Ga.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Clover United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul Hutchison officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

Born in Franklin County, Va., Mrs. Skinnell was a daughter of the late Thomas Aultice and Cora Wright Aultice. She was a member of Clover United Methodist Church. Mrs. Skinnell was the widow of David D. Skinnell.

Surviving are four sons, Emmett Skinnell and Eugene Skinnell, both of Granite Falls, N.C., and Paul Skinnell and Ashby Skinnell, both of Clover; four daughters, Delitha Cox of Danville, Va., Cora Cody of Augusta, June Bumgardner of Canton, Ohio, and Nora Card of Stockton, Calif.; her brother, Eldridge Aultice of Bedford, Va.; 25 grandchildren; and 72 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at M.L. Ford and Sons Funeral Home and other times at the homes of Paul Skinnell, 140 Spring Meadow Drive and Ashby Skinnell, 198 Kingsbury Road.

Betty Barton

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Betty Brank Barton, 60, of 405 Old Friendship Road and Lake Joel Drive in Ocean Isle, N.C., died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Friendship United Methodist Church, with the Revs. David C. Taylor and Paul Hutchison officiating.

A native of Waynesville, N.C., Mrs. Barton was a daughter of the late Roy Alonzo Brank and Bessie Marie Sampson Brank Fairley. She was co-owner of Barton Machine Shop. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church and its Duckworth class.

Surviving are her husband, Bruce A. Barton; her son, Bruce E. Barton of Rock Hill; her daughter, Vivienne Varnadore of Great Falls; her sister, Bobbie Head of Columbia; and her niece and nephew.

The family will receive friends at the church after the memorial service and at other times at the home.

Ella Garris

LANCASTER - Miss Ella Jane Garris, 96, of Second Street died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kevin Cooley officiating. Burial will be at West Side Cemetery.

A native of Lancaster, Miss Garris was a daughter of the late David Garris and Nannie Beckham Garris. She was a member of Grace United Methodist and retired from Springs Industries, where she had worked for 52 years.

Surviving are two brothers, Julius Garris of Kershaw and Edward Garris of Lancaster; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Perry "Pete" Garris, 1582 Cedar Dale Lane, Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church building fund, P.O. Box 418, Lancaster, SC 29721.

Frances Hatcher

LANCASTER - Mrs. Frances Lucille Pate Hatcher, 72, of 1109 Hudson St. died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, with the Revs. N.J. Neely and Brooks Walker officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Hatcher was a daughter of the late William Minton Pate and Janie Holley Pate. She was retired from Springs Industries Lancaster plant and a member of Glenwood Heights Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Sam Hatcher Jr.; three sons, Richard Hatcher, Dennis Hatcher and Chuck Hatcher, all of Lancaster; three brothers, Reecie Pate and William Pate, both of Lancaster, and Maxie Pate of New Jersey; her sister, Jourleen Pate of Lancaster; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Steve Hooks

FORT MILL - Mr. Stephen Michael Hooks, 53, of 213 Drane Circle died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glenrock Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gene Flack officiating. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.

A native of Fort Mill, Mr. Hooks was a son of Eva Rogers Hooks of Fort Mill and the late John H. Hooks. He was a self-employed painter. He was an S.A.L. member of American Legion Post 43 and a member of the Lancaster Moose Lodge. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his son, Steven M. Hooks Jr. of Monroe, N.C.; his daughter, Susan Renee Hoods of Waxhaw, N.C.; three sisters, Nadine Carter of Rock Hill, Mary Hooks of Fort Mill and Jean Hooks of Greenville; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Fort Mill Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his mother, Eva Hooks, 213 Drane Circle.
