Gerald Gainey

ROCK HILL - Mr. Gerald "Jerry" Scott Gainey, 47, of 1110 McKinnon Drive died Sunday, April 2, 2000, in Brinkley, Ark.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Steve Hogg and Dr. Sollie Hicks officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Gainey was a son of Doris Thomas Gainey and the late Carl E. Gainey. He was a self-employed businessman and was a member of First Baptist Church. He graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1971 and from Mars Hill College in 1975.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his daughter, Kristen Ledford of Rock Hill; and two brothers, Carl Thomas "Tommy" Gainey and Ernest Eddie Gainey, both of Rock Hill.

Greene Funeral Home is in home.

Fred Jones

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Fred Broughton Jones died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

A graveside service was March 28, 2000, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with the Rev. Drs. Gordon Robinson and C.A. Dabney officiating.

Mr. Jones was a maintenance superintendent with Augusta Newsprint, was a member of the Goshen Plantation Golf Club and was a member of the Bill Evans Sunday school class at Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Allene Smith Jones; two daughters, Lea Jones White of Fort Mill and Nancy Jones Sansone of West Chester, Ohio; his brother, Bobby A. Jones of Alexandria, Va.; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church general fund, 3045 Deans Bridge Road, Augusta, GA 30906.

Christopher Land

CHESTER - Christopher DaVon Land, the 6-month-old infant son of Gerald Land and Mary Elizabeth Caldwell Land of 603-A Pinkney Road, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The graveside service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Prospect Baptist Church, with the Rev. George Sims officiating.

He was a native of York County.

Surviving in addition to his parents are five brothers, Geraldo D. Land, Gerald D. Land, Gerald Land Jr., Anthony B. Land and Jonathan L. Land, all of Chester; two sisters, Brandi Land and Santrina Caldwell, both of Chester; his paternal grandparents, Clinso Land and Gladys Land, both of Chester; his maternal grandmother, Alice Mae Caldwell of Chester; and his paternal great-grandmother, Geneva Wise of Chester.

The family will receive friends at home.

King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester, is in charge.

Paul Wallace

CLOVER - Mr. Paul Ellis Wallace, 54, of 304 Cheek Road died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Freewill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Marvin Carson officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

A native of York, Mr. Wallace was a son of the late Paul G. Wallace and Mammie Ramsey Wallace. He was a retired spinner from Bowling Green Spinning Mills. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Knowls Wallace; two sons, Christopher Wallace of Clover and Joseph Wallace of Gastonia; three stepsons, William Bush, Roger Bush and Chris Bush; his daughter, Lora W. Thomas of Clover; his stepdaughter, Cindy Drawdy; his brother, Roger Wallace of York; three sisters, Ann W. Childers, Brenda W. Peterson and Frances W. Vanadore, all of York; and 13 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.

Grace DeLuce

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Grace Virginia Frasca DeLuce, 88, of Rock Hill died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Eden Gardens.

The funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anne Catholic Church, with Father William F. Pentis officiating.

A native of New York City, Mrs. DeLuce was a daughter of the late Alexander Frasca and Lucia Matteresi Frasca. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and the Potters Guild of New Jersey.

Surviving are her daughter, Lucille D'Auria of Rock Hill and Gloria DeLuce of Hoboken, N.J.; her sister, Josephine Chierchio of Long Island, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The vigil service will be 6:30 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Cauthen Funeral Home.

Willie Greene

BETHUNE - Mrs. Willie Mae Chapman Temple Greene, 86, of 3852 Freeman Road died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Shamrock Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Odell Sullivan. Burial will be at Green Lawn Cemetery in Great Falls.

A native of Waxhaw, N.C., Mrs. Greene was a daughter of the late William G. Chapman and Lillie Mae Carter Chapman and her stepfather, J.T. Temple Sr. She was the widow of John Ira Greene. Mrs. Greene was a retired beautician for Helens of Fort Lawn and was a graduate of Madame Collette's College of Beauty Culture. She was a member of Lake Wylie Assembly in Fort Mill.

Surviving are two daughters, Anne Freeman of Bethune and Martha Carnes of Rock Hill; her brother, J.T. Temple Jr. of Great Falls; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Connie Maxwell Children's Home, P.O. Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648.

Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge.

Chasity Lowery

FORT MILL - Chasity Selene Lowery, infant daughter of Linda Faye Lowery, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Blessed Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jamie Coley officiating.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her brother, Chastin Lowery of the home; and her maternal grandparents, Jeanette Helms of Waxhaw, N.C., and Danny Helms of Rutherfordton, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Blessed Hope Baptist Church.

Fort Mill Funeral Home is in charge.

Charles Buckson

DETROIT - Retired Sgt. Charles Bernard "Chucky" Buckson, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at home.

The funeral was April 1 at 12th Street Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Donald R. Hudson officiating. Burial was a Woodlawn Cemetery.

A native of Detroit, he was a son of Charles Buckson and Mary Buckson of Detroit. He graduated from Cheraw High School in Cheraw, where he was on the track team, wrestling team, in the ROTC and the National Guard. He joined the Army and was a Ranger with 1/75th Ranger Battallion. He served in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. He was a member of 12th Street Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Towanda Nelson Buckson of Hinesville, Ga.; his brother, Jefferey Buckson of Detroit; and his grandmothers, Catherine Skinner of Cheraw and Annie Lee Buckson of Edgemoor.

James H. Cole Home for Funerals was in charge.

Mary Chisholm

CHESTER - Mrs. Mary Hampton Chisholm, 73, of 200 York Road, Apt. B-4, Chester Homes, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

Arrangements will be announced by King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.

The family will be at the home of Lamorise and Ruby Wright, 105 Hope St., Chester.

Leon Cook

FORT MILL - Mr. Leon B. Cook, 68, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at McEwen Funeral Home, Pineville Chapel. A graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Alleghany United Methodist Church Cemetery in Denton, N.C.

A native of Davidson County, N.C., Mr. Cook was a son of the late Julius Van Cook and Metta Loftin Cook. He was owner and operator of L.B. Cook Tile Co. in Charlotte.

Surviving are his wife, Susan Snider Cook; his daughter, Glenda Outen of Charlotte; his son, Leon "Randy" Cook of Charlotte; two brothers, Jason Cook and Dwight Cook, both of Charlotte; and two grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at McEwen Funeral Service, Pineville Chapel.

William Cooper Sr.

CHESTER - Mr. William "Billy" Joe Cooper Sr., 45, of 2359 Old York Road died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Barron Funeral Home. Burial will be at Chester Memorial Gardens.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Cooper was a son of the late John Elliott Cooper and Lorene Bishop Cooper. Mr. Cooper was owner and operator of J Pawn Shop. He attended Chester County schools and York Technical College. He was an Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce Keenon Cooper; three sons, Jerry Ray Hucks, William "Billy" Joe Cooper Jr. and Chad Elliott Cooper, all of Chester; his brother, Buddy Cooper of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Diane Clark of Chester and Sandra Culp of Rock Hill.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Barron Funeral Home.

Ulyessee Currence

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - Mr. Ulyessee "U.L." Currence, 69, formerly of York, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Washington Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Freeman White officiating. Burial will be at Georgetown Memorial Park.

Surviving are eight sons, Fernando Currence, Darnell Currence, Lovell Currence, Tyrone Currence, Gregory Currence, Howard Currence and Reginald Currence, all of Jacksonville, and Ulyessee Currence of Hickory Grove; three daughters, Neva Currence of Jacksonville, Dorothy Mae Byers of Charlotte and Maggie "Princess" Robbins of York; two brothers, Mozel Neely of York and James Neely of Baltimore; five sisters, Elma Clancy of St. Louis, Mo., Jessie Mae McCoy and Lillie Neely, both of York, Margaret Davis of Charlotte and Joyce Wright of Columbia; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Spicer Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

Buddy Marthers

ROCK HILL - Mr. Connelly "Buddy" O. Marthers, 72, of 935 Dunlap Roddey Road died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Bass Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Fleming officiating. Burial will be at Neely's Creek ARP Church Cemetery.

A native of York County, Mr. Marthers was a son of Sallie Rabon Marthers of Rock Hill and the late William Wesley Marthers. Mr. Marthers was an electrician with Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. and was a member of the Woodman of the World. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Annette L. Marthers; his daughter, Mary Ann Ballard of Rock Hill; two sisters, Margie Parrish and Joyce Bishop Hayes, both of Rock Hill; two grandchildren; and his great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Anne Privette

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Anne Lea Anderson Privette, 89, of 6596 Old York Road, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Beverly Health Care Center.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at West End Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Quinn officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Privette was a daughter of the late William Anderson and Nancy Jane White Anderson.

She was a secretary at the Victoria Mills and was retired from the Catawba Trucking Company. Mrs. Privette was a member of West End Baptist Church, where she worked in the nursery. She attended Rock Hill schools. She was the widow of Horace E. Privette Sr.

Surviving are her brother, Charles Anderson of Great Falls; her sister, Lillian Walden of Rock Hill; her stepson, Horace E. "Buddy" Privette Jr. of Rock Hill; three stepdaughters, Patricia Ramsey and Nancy Yarborough of Rock Hill, and Jean Montheith of Pineville, N.C.; 10 stepgrandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bass Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mrs. Lillian Walden, 6608 Old York Road, York.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732.
