Andrew Horton Sr.

KERSHAW - Mr. Andrew Jackson "Jack" Horton Sr., 82, of Kershaw died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Center Grove Baptist Church, with the Revs. Marion Dry and Bryant Fersner officiating. Burial will be in Kershaw City Cemetery.

A native of Kershaw, Mr. Horton was a son of the late Charles T. Horton and Eva Mae Gainor Horton. He was the widower of Annie Mae Adams. He was a postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church, where he was treasurer, chairman of the board of deacons and the Sunday school senior men's class teacher.

Surviving are two sons, Jack Horton Jr. of Belleville, Ill., and J. Charles Horton of Kingwood, Texas; his daughter, Anna Sigmon of Kershaw; two sisters, Grace Kirk of Lancaster and Annie Mae Smith of Kershaw; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel and other times at the home of Annie Mae Smith, 5138 Sandy Lane, Kershaw.

Memorials may be made to Center Grove Baptist Church Maintenance Fund, 236 Scout Cabin Road, Kershaw, SC 29067 or to the charity of one's choice.

Jessie Hunter

LANCASTER - Mrs. Jessie Lawrence Hunter, 83, of Lancaster died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Springs Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at New Cut Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Wayne Dickson officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A native of Wake County, N.C., Mrs. Hunter was a daughter of the late Willie Toy Lawrence and Lola Clyde Lawrence. She was the widow of William "Bill" Hunter. She was a homemaker and was a member of New Cut Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are two sisters, Mabel Cooper of Jacksonville, Fla., and Nellie McGee of Hialeiah, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials may be sent to New Cut Presbyterian Church, walking trail or van fund, 2617 New Cut Church Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

Walter Powtak

YORK - Mr. Walter Stanley Powtak, 78, of 1255 N. Highway 321 died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

A native of Holyoke, Mass., Mr. Powtak was a son of the late Arnold Powtak and Helen Zombik Powtak. He was the widower of Dorothy Brackebusch Powtak. He was an optician and was a World War II Army veteran.

Surviving are two sons, Richard Stanley Powtak of Lansing, Mich., and Jeffrey M. Powtak of York; his brother, Stanley Powtak of Holyoke; three sisters, Helen Zimba, Adele Rybsky and Geneva Zimbrowski, all of Holyoke; and four grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Barron Funeral Home.

Joe Martin

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Mr. Joe D. Martin, 76, of 704 Twyckenham Drive died Monday, June, 12, 2000, at Moses Cone Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Lindley Park Baptist Church. Burial will be at Westminster Gardens.

Mr. Martin was a member of Lindley Park Baptist Church, where he was a member of the couples' Adult 3 Sunday school class and the choir, and he served as a deacon and usher. He was retired from Durham Life Insurance Co. and worked for Greensboro War Memorial Auditorium. He was a World War II Army veteran in the 20th Engineer Corps.

Surviving are his wife, Doris G. Martin; his son, Tom Martin of Greensboro; his daughter, Donna Kanerak of Florence, Ky.; his sister, Lois Doster of Rock Hill; and his granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, North Elm St., Greensboro.

Roger Minyard

LANCASTER - Mr. Roger Lee Minyard, 49, of 1094 Grace Ave. died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Westside Cemetery, with the Rev. William H. Walters officiating.

A native of Anderson, Mr. Minyard was the son of Betty Molloy of Lancaster and the late Thurman Brown Minyard. He attended the University of Montana and was of the Episcopal faith.

Surviving are his fiance, Shari Hyatt Outlaw of Lancaster; four sons, Bronson and Roger Lee of Billings, Mont., and Joe and Jesse of Lancaster; three daughters, Angie of Billings, Mont., and Amanda and Jessica of Lancaster; five brothers, J. Wenchel Wolfe IV of Charlotte, David M. Jester of Erie, Pa., John Patrick Jester and Larry J. Jester, both of High Point, N.C., and Alan Minyard of Anderson; two sisters, Cindy Spicer of Miami and Sherl Brown of Anderson; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel.

Charles Morrow

CLOVER - Mr. Charles R. Morrow, 87, of Marion Street died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. David J. Stanford officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery. A native of York County, Mr. Morrow was a son of the late Charles Roy Morrow and Johnsie Long Morrow. He was the widower of Minnis Q. Morrow.

He was co-owner of Morrow Plumbing and Electric and was a member of Alpine Lodge 208. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a Sunday school teacher and former deacon.

Surviving are his daughter, Mary Charles Morrow of Clover; and his granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M. L. Ford Sons Funeral Home in Clover.

Richard Stevens

FORT MILL - Mr. Richard "Strawberry" Maden Stevens, 67, of 204 Jackson St. died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

A native of McDaniell, W.Va., Mr. Stevens was a son of the late William Stevens and Dora McKay Stevens. He was an employee of Winchell Construction Co. of Charlotte. He was a Koren War Army veteran. He was a member of VFW Post No. 9138, American Legion Post No. 43 and Fort Mill Moose Lodge No. 1240.

Surviving is his companion, Genell McCarver of the home.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at home.

Florence Collins

CHESTER - Mrs. Florence Underwood Collins, 76, of 100 Culp St. died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at home.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Chester Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Mark Mason officiating.

A native of Dothan, Ala., Mrs. Collins was a daughter of the late Claude Underwood and Maybelle Grady Underwood. She was retired from Springs Industries and was a graduate of Columbus High School, Columbus, Ga. She was a member of Purity Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are two sons, Hap Collins of Chester and Roy C. Collins of Matthews, N.C.; her daughter, Martha Collins of West Columbia; her brother, Louis Underwood of High Point, N.C.; her sister, Louise Hill of Palatka, Fla.; and two granddaughters.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at 1022 Audrey Lane, Great Falls Road, Chester.

HICKORY GROVE - Mrs. Mary White Gregg, 97, of Hickory Grove died Monday, June 12, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. James AME Zion Church, with the Rev. E. J. Bell officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.

A native of Gaffney, Mrs. Gregg was the daughter of the late Will White and Elizabeth Robinson White. She was a member of St. James AME Zion Church and was a former Worthy Matron of the Whitaker Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Blacksburg.

Surviving are two nephews, Charles White and Walter White, both of the home; and her niece, Harriet L. White of the home.

The family will receive friends at home.

The body may be viewed from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home in York and will be taken to the church Saturday at 1 p.m.

Elizabeth Jones

ATLANTA - Mrs. Elizabeth Gaston Jones, 97, of Atlanta died Tuesday, June 13, 2000.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Longtown Presbyterian Church in Longtown, S.C.

A native of Edgemoor, Mrs. Jones was a daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. John Newton Gaston Sr. She was the widow of Markley Lee Jones Sr. Mrs. Gaston graduated in 1923 from Winthrop University and retired from teaching in Charlotte, Darlington, Atlanta. She was a member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta.

Surviving are her son, Lee Jones; her daughter, Betty Pittman Atkinson; her brother, Dr. Frank Gaston of Rock Hill; her granddaughter; and her step grandson.

Memorials may be made to Longtown Presbyterian Church, 8010 Longtown Road, Longtown, SC 29130.

Bill Lineberger

CHARLOTTE - Mr. Sam Kennedy "Bill" Lineberger Jr., 79, of 2150 Lockhart Drive died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Mercy Hospital.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. John Jenkins officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Lineberger was the son of the late Sam Kennedy Lineberger Sr. and Beaula Hunter Lineberger. He was a radio engineer with WRHI in his early years and retired from WGIV radio. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two nephews, Bobby Lineberger of Rock Hill and Buddy Lineberger of Florida.
