SIX MILE - Mr. Ernest Ralph "Mutt" Holder, 74, of 191 Aaron Drive died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at Cannon Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Kings Grove Baptist Church, with the Revs. Virgil Merck, Garland Sentell and Neil Hendrix officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

A native of Pickens County, Mr. Holder was the son of the late Clara Holder Todd. He was a retired supply clerk and was a member of Kings Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Etta Mae Ross Holder; five sons, Andy Holder and Russell Holder, both of Six Mile, Demps Holder of Charlotte, and George Holder and Lonnie Holder, both of Pickens; two daughters, Linda Ramsey of Liberty and Libby Holder of Easley; seven brothers, Jr. Kelley, Theron Kelley, James Kelley, Fred Kelley and Austin Kelley, all of Pickens; Richard Kelley of York and David Kelley of Easley; four sisters, Nell Skinner of Liberty, and Ruby Todd, Maude Todd and Judy Collins, all of Pickens; 16 grandchildren; and seven great - grandchildren.

Dillard Memorial Funeral Home is in charge.

Clarence Laney

MONROE, N.C. - "Mr. Clarence J. "C.J." Laney, 83, of Monroe died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Davis Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Mike Hawks, Herman Mandell and Tracy Bradshaw officiating. Burial will be private.

A native of Union County, N.C., Mr. Laney was a son of the late Goodman Frank and Lula Josey Laney. He was the owner of C & M Sales and Lanco Construction Co.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred Thomas Laney, five daughters, Mildred Helen Hyatt of Pageland, Mary Jeanne Elliott of Elizabeth City, N.C., E. Louise Bradshaw of Chesapeake, Va., Jerrie Diane Hildreth of Polkton, N.C., and Donna Gail Sexton of Rock Hill; three sisters, Susie Sowell West, Ruth Myrtle Beamon and Martha Ghent Whitaker, all of Lancaster; four brothers, C.B. Laney, Donald Laney, Terry Laney and Frank Laney, all of Lancaster; 18 grandchildren; 30 great - grandchildren; and seven great - great - grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Davis Funeral Home in Monroe.

Margie Lucas

GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Margie Ann Shelton Lucas, 60, of 14 Birch St. died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at Lancaster Convalescent Center.

The graveside service will be

2 p.m. Thursday at Greenlawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Larry Roberts officiating.

A native of Chester, Mrs. Lucas was a daughter of the late Brown Shelton and Ada Putman Shelton.

Mrs. Lucas attended Lancaster County schools and was retired from J.P. Stevens Co.

Surviving are her husband, Elliott S. "Shorty" Lucas; two daughters, Pam Rape and Angie Hake, both of Great Falls; her stepson, Kenneth Lucas of Great Falls; her stepdaughter, Peggy Christopher of Great Falls; five brothers, Jack Shelton, Bobby Shelton, George Shelton and Johnny Shelton, all of Gaffney, and Buddy Shelton of Goose Creek; her sister, Velma Ramsey of Cherokee Falls; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Dantzler - Baker Funeral Home and at other times at the home of David and Pam Rape, Ridgeway Road, Great Falls.

Laura Owenby

CLOVER - Mrs. Laura Daisy Watts Owenby, 80, of 423 Rainbow Circle died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at Gaston Health Care in Gastonia, N.C.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Richard Lindsay, Samual Crisp and Jack Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Bethany ARP Church cemetery.

A native of Gaston County, N.C., Mrs. Owenby was a daughter of the late Riley Hodge and Elizabeth Gibson Hodge.

She was the widow of Henry Leslie Watts and Herman Owenby.

Surviving are three daughters, Peggy Jones and Diana Johnston, both of Clover, and Brenda Crisp of Kannapolis, N.C.; her son, Jerry Watts of Clover; two sisters, Ruby Huggins of Gastonia and Dorothy Gentry of Stanley, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great - grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home and other times at the home of Diana and David Johnston, 158 Bonum Road, Lake Wylie.

Bobby Plyler

LANCASTER - Mr. Bobby Darrell Plyler, 28, of 864 W. Doc Garris Road died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at Carolina Pine's Hospital in Hartsville.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hartley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Lancaster Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Plyler was a son of Dewey F. Plyler and Geraldine McManus Plyler. He was employed as a technician at Springs Industries - Grace Fabrication Plant. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his sister, Lisa Hodge of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartley Funeral Home.

Louise Small

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Louise MisKelly Small, 87, of 127 Murrah Drive died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at Magnolia Manor.

The memorial service will be

3 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with the Rev. David Kemp and Mark Leonhart officiating. Burial will be private.

A native of Rock Hill, Mrs. Small was a daughter of the late William E. MisKelly and Fannie Elizabeth Lyle MisKelly. She was a homemaker and was a member of Fort Mill Church of God. She was the widow of Childs A. Small.

Surviving are her son, Kenneth Small of Fort Mill; seven grandchildren; and four great - grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the memorial service.

James Carroll

GASTONIA, N.C. - Mr. James Herbert Carroll, 37, of 505 Lenox St., died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Generation Funeral Home, with the Rev. Patricia Starr officiating.

A native of Gaston County, N.C., Mr. Carroll was a son of James Carroll and Macie Carroll.

Surviving in addition to his parents are three brothers, Steve Barnett and John Barnett, both of the home, and Maurice Carroll of Gastonia.

The family will receive friends from noon to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Quiet Hour will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Generation Funeral Home.

Hannah Chapman

BREVARD, N.C. - Ms. Hannah Louise Lanning Chapman, 74, formerly of Rock Hill, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at Transylvania Community Hospital.

Mrs. Chapman was buried in Brevard, N.C.

A native of Henderson County, N.C., Mrs. Chapman was a daughter of the late Jessie Lanning and Helen Mae Gosnell Wolfe.

Surviving are two sons, Jessie Lee Smith of Brevard, N.C. and the Rev. Tommy Upchurch of Rock Hill; two daughters, Patricia Corn and Marie Parker, both of Brevard; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great - grandchildren.

Julie Cooper

YORK - Mrs. Julie W. Cooper, 56, of 1080 Meadow Bend Drive died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with the Rev. Terry Corder officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Rutherford County, N.C., Mrs. Cooper was a daughter of the late Ernest J. Wilson and Rachel Nanney Wilson. She was a paralegal with Kennedy, Covington, Lobdell & Hickman in Rock Hill. She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband, Roland Haselden of the home; three sons, Robert Wesley Cooper of Mooresboro, N.C., and Douglas Creed Cooper and Wayne Anthony Cooper, both of Forest City, N.C.; her stepson, Scott Douglas Haselden of North Carolina; two stepdaughters, Kelly Marie Haselden of York and Tammara Denine Guyton of Union; her sister, Kathy Cash of Myrtle Beach; three grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel and other times at home.

Allen Hoffman Sr.

ROCK HILL - Mr. Allen Eugene "Bo" Hoffman Sr., 60, of 742 Level St., died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens, with the Revs. Jerry Devinney and Robert D. Shrum officiating.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Hoffman was a son of the late Felder P. Hoffman and Cora Allen Hoffman. He retired from the city of Rock Hill with 21 years service. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Olney Hoffman; his son, Allen E. Hoffman Jr. of Rock Hill; his brother, Bill Hoffman of Rock Hill; his sister, Thelma Pope of Rock Hill; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel and other times at home.

John McBrayer

ROCK HILL - Mr. John Smith "Johnny" McBrayer, 77, of 1270 Pinewood Road died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. T. Mark Verdery officiating. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. McBrayer was a son of the late John T. McBrayer and Juanita Susan Smith McBrayer. He was a widower of Constance Wallace McBrayer. He graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1941. A World War II veteran, he served as an Army field artilleryman. He was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, starting in 1948 and retiring in 1980. He was a member of National Association of Retired Post Office Employees.

He was a member of American Legion Frank Roach Post No. 34, commanding from 1965 to 1966. He was a member of Drum and Bugle Corps. He received the Distinguished American Legion Service Award on March 12, 1999, and he was awarded the Outstanding American Legion Legionnaire Award for 1987 - 1988. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church U.S.A. of Rock Hill, where he served as deacon, an assistant Sunday school superintendent and a member of the Property and Grounds Committee.

Surviving are three daughters, Catherine M. Abernathy of Chester, Juanita "Nita" Porter of Rock Hill and Dr. Susan M. Demchak of Jacksonville, N.C.; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel and other times at home.
