Sybil Cole

ROCK HILL -"Mrs. Sybil Small Cole, 87, of 725 E. Black St. died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, in Rock Hill.

A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Laurelwood Cemetery, with Dr. Robert J. Robinson officiating.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Cole was a daughter of the late Walter Small and Mamie Sullivan Small. She was the widow of Elton William Cole Sr.

She was a member of First ARP Church and was retired from Belk department store.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol C. Stanley of Cherry Grove and Phyllis Williams of Rock Hill; her son, William Cole Jr. of Rock Hill; three sisters, Carolyn S. Shute, Betty S. Evans and Peggy S. Hilton, all of Lancaster; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First ARP Church, 201 E. White St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Lou Ella Deese

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Lou Ella Kennington Deese, 89, of 1915 Ebenezer Road died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at White Oak Manor.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at New Haven Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Jeske and Ernest Stroud officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Plains Baptist Church cemetery.

A native of Lancaster County, Mrs. Deese was a daughter of the late Emanuel Kennington and Lou Robinson Kennington. A member of New Haven Baptist Church, she was the widow of Oscar Tillman Deese.

Surviving are seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Kershaw Chapel, and other times at the home of Bill Rollins, 8975 Taxahaw Road, Kershaw.

Memorials may be made to New Haven Baptist Church, 9244 Taxahaw Road, Jefferson, SC 29718.

Boyce Gibson

GREAT FALLS -"Mr. Boyce Gibson, 85, of 15840 State Highway 200 died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Baptist Medical Center in Columbia.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Dearborn United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Tony Medlin and Darrell Twitty officiating.

A native of Chester County, Mr. Gibson was a son of the late William A. Gibson and Fannie McWaters Gibson Broome. He was a widower of Ethel Tarlton Gibson. He was a retired climate control operator with J.P. Stevens. He was a member of Mount Dearborn United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the men's Bible class and was a former Sunday school superintendent. He was educated in Chester County schools and was a Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his brother, Billy V. Gibson of Charlotte; and two sisters, Annie Mae Leonhardt and Myrtle Tarlton, both of Great Falls.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Mount Dearborn United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 246, Great Falls, SC 29055.

Rudell Montgomery

GREENVILLE -"Mr. Rudell Carter Montgomery, 87, formerly of 205 Bailey St., died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Laurel Bay Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wood Mortuary, with the Rev. Gary Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

A native of Greenville, Mrs. Montgomery was a daughter of the late Andrew J. Carter and Bessie Massey Carter. She was the widow of Patrick Henry Montgomery.

She was a retired sales associate for Kmart and was a member of Calvary First Baptist Church of Greenville.

Surviving are her daughter, Norma Wade of Greer; two sons, Cecil Montgomery of Anderson and Richard Montgomery of Rock Hill; two sisters, Gladys Kelley of Taylors and Helen Peace of Rome, Ga.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p .m. Tuesday at Wood Mortuary and other times at the home of Norma Wade, 104 Mountain Valley Drive, Greer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

Olga Vacendak

ROCK HILL -"Mrs. Olga Vacendak of Rock Hill, formerly of the Green Ridge community in Scranton, Pa., died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

The funeral will be 9 a.m. Wednesday at Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc, 1810 Sanderson Ave., Scranton, Pa., with a Mass at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church. Burial will be in Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton.

A native of Aliquippa, Pa., Mrs. Vancendak was the widow of Stephen Vacendak Sr. She was a daughter of the late John Leggins and Julia Leggins. She and her husband operated the Green Ridge Bake Shop. She was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Scran-ton.

Surviving are two sons, Tom Vacendak of Hillsborough, N.C., and Steve Vacendak of Rock Hill; her daughter, Suzanne Zoka of Kingston, Pa.; her brother, Joseph Leggins; her sister, Madeline Rickwalder; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Parastas service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Sallie Ashley

ROCK HILL - Mrs. Sallie M. Ashley, 80, of 1741 King Drive died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Piedmont Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Wright Funeral Home in York.

Carol Barrett

YORK - Mrs. Carol Dickerson Barrett, 55, of 784 Adkins Road died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church in York, with the Rev. Thomas B. McPhail officiating. Burial will be at the church.

A native of York County, Mrs. Barrett was a daughter of James C. Dickerson and the late Sara Dunlap Dickerson. She was a secretary and treasurer at Dickerson Motor Co. in York. She was a member of Circle No. 3, Williams Sunday school class, Women of Church and the Movin' On Club at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church.

Surviving in addition to her father are her husband, Joseph P. Barrett Jr.; her son, Todd D. Barrett of Tega Cay; her daughter, Amy Barrett Evans of York; two brothers, James M. Dickerson and Danny W. Dickerson, both of York; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home.

Sue Bridges

CHARLOTTE - Ms. Sue Ann Rawdon Bridges, 61, of 8807 Sweet Water Court, formerly of Rock Hill, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at home.

Arrangements will be announced by Greene Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel.

Clifford Ghantt

CHESTER - Mr. Clifford James "Butch" Ghantt, 47, of 3935 Armenia Road died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Zion Cemetery, with the Rev. Greg Keller officiating.

A native of York County, Mr. Ghantt was a son of the late James Ghantt and Minnie McMurray Ghantt. He worked for Essex Manufacturing in Chester.

Surviving is his brother, John Ghannt of Burlington, N.C.

Wright's Home for Funerals is in charge.

Chesney Haire

ROCK HILL - Mr. Chesney L. Haire, 82, of 701 Rockwood Drive died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Jenkins officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.

A native of Lancaster, Mr. Haire was a son of the late Vernon Haire and Jeddie Timmons Haire. He was a World War II Army veteran. He retired from the Arcadia and Aragon Mills in Rock Hill. He was a charter member of Second Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, treasurer and Sunday school superintendent. He was a former member of the Woodmen of the World.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby Blackwell Haire, his son, Billy L. Haire of Rock Hill; his daughter, Sheila H. Hill of Rock Hill; three brothers, Franklin "Zonnie" Haire, Jimmy Haire and Gene Haire, all of Rock Hill; six sisters, Lucille Dunlap of Charlotte, Ollie Howell of Mary-land, Betty Pace of Summerville, Bert Whitaker of Murrells Inlet, and Annie Watts and Connie Moorehead, both of Rock Hill; and four grandchildren.

Bass Funeral Home is in charge.

Annie Irby

EDGEMOOR - Mrs. Annie Threatt Irby, 73, of 4401 Simpson Road died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at home.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Heath Memorial United Methodist Church in Lando, with the Revs. Sam Warwick and Charles Lafoy officiating. Burial will be at Lando Cemetery.

Mrs. Irby was a daughter of the late Henry W. Threatt and Martha Deason Threatt. She was a member of Heath Memorial United Methodist Church and was a member of the UMW. She retired from Manetta Mills of Edgemoor.

Surviving are her husband, Ray A. Irby; four sons, Michael "Dennis" Irby and Paul Edward Irby, both of Edgemoor, and Tommy Irby and David Lee Irby, both of Chester; two daughters, Brenda I. Edge and Martha I. Greene, both of Edgemoor; two brothers, Ben Threatt and George Threatt, both of Bethune; her sister, Beatrice Blanks of Rock Hill; five grandchildren; and her great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at home.

Cecil Lawson

CHESTER - Mr. Cecil David Lawson, 79, of 533 Devine St. died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Chester County Hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at First Freewill Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Sanders and Brother Ralph Byars officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

A native of Buffalo, Mr. Lawson was a son of the late Barry M. Lawson and Hattie Vinson Lawson Ferrell. He was the widower of Lois Johnson Lawson. He was a retired painter. He attended Dora Jones School. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are his son, David Lawson of Richburg; his brother, Raymond Lawson of Easley; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Barron Funeral Home in Chester.
