Ned T. Livingston
October 7, 2005

Ned T. Livingston, 78, of 3254 Nance Street, Newberry, widower of Sue White Livingston, died Friday, October 07, 2005, at his residence.
Mr. Livingston was born on November 6, 1926 in Newberry, a son of the late Jacob and Bertha Summers Livingston. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, a retired employee of Greenwood Mills, Joanna Plant and delivered meals for Meals on Wheels. He was a member of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church.
Mr. Livingston is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Eve L. and Wayne Kneece of Newberry, and Kay L. and Steve Reeves, Jr. of Greenwood; three sisters, Sallie Nicholson of Columbia, Ramah Ward of Rock Hill, and Carolyn Long of Florence; a sister-in-law, Dora Sue Livingston of Newberry; a brother, Bobby Livingston of Trenton; and five grandchildren, Robert W. Kneece, Jr. and Jason T. Kneece both of Newberry, Marie Richardson, Jason Reeves, and Ragen Reeves all of Greenwood. He was predeased by a granddaughter, Hope Kneece.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 6:30 P.M. Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the home of Mr. Robert Kneece, 3260 Nance Street, Newberry.
Funeral services for Ned T. Livingston will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church by the Rev. Robert Kasting. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church Piano Fund, 1307 Drayton St. Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be Tim Livingston, Danny Livingston, Jene Nicholson, Dean Nicholson, Lamar Livingston, and Stuart Livingston

Francis Joseph McArthur
October 6, 2005

Francis Joseph McArthur, 95, of 1439 B. Main Street, Little Mountain, widow of Jeanne Jane Moderacki McArthur, died Thursday, October 6, 2005, at White Oak Manor.
Mr. McArthur was born on October 25, 1910 in New York, New York, a son of the late Edward and Catherine Cochoran McArthur. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Chapin.
Mr. McArthur is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carole and Gerard (Jerry) Catapano of Pinehurst, NC and Jane and Henry (Hank) Bufkin of Little Mountain; and five grandchildren and spouses, Scott and Rody Conlon, Wayne and Laurie Conlon, Daniel and Audrey Bufkin, Michael Bufkin, and Jeanne Bufkin; and two great grandchildren, Kevin Conlon and Alyssa Bufkin. He was predeceased by a son, Kenneth McArthur and three brothers, Robert McArthur, Alfred McArthur, and Harold McArthur.
Funeral Mass for Francis Joseph McArthur will be offered at 2:00 P. M. Saturday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church by the Father Andrew Vollkommer and Reverend Mr. Joseph Biviano. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P. M. Friday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Visitation will follow the Rosary and last until 9:00 P.M.

Harriet Clarkson Hamm
October 5, 2005

Harriet Clarkson Hamm, 86, of 2006 Springfield Circle, wife of D. H. Hamm, Jr., died Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs.Hamm was born August 14, 1919, in Newberry, a daughter of the late Rev. Geradus F. and Nancy Ansel Clarkson. She was a member of Wightman United Methodist Church and the Nancy Clarkson Circle.
Mrs. Hamm is survived by her husband of Newberry; a daughter, Susan Hamm Davis of Charleston; a son and daughter-in-law, D. H. and Martha “Mot” Hamm, III of Myrtle Beach; a sister, Margaret Clarkson Welborn of Anderson; and a brother, Gordon F. Clarkson of Newberry; two grandchildren, E. Shell Hamm Graham and D. H. Hamm, IV, both of Myrtle Beach; and a great granddaughter, Cameron.
Funeral services for Harriet Clarkson Hamm will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 A. M at Wightman United Methodist Church by the Rev. Eddie Taylor. Interment will be in the Prosperity Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 P. M. Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Springfield Place 2000 Springfield Circle, Newberry, SC 29108 or to the Wightman United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 376, Prosperity, SC 29127.
Active pallbearers will be Andy Graham, Richard Foster, James Mills, David Hamm, Jimmy Counts, Rodney Epting, Eddie Graham, and Dr. Oscar Lovelace. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Francis Asbury Sunday School Class.

Peace McElveen Fulmer
October 2, 2005

Peace McElveen Fulmer, 86, formerly of 7808 SC Hwy 395, widow of Lloyd Carlisle Fulmer, died Sunday, October 2, 2005 at the Veranda in Roswell, GA.
Mrs. Fulmer was born in Charleston, a daughter of the late Henry M. and Roberta Welch McElveen. Mrs. Fulmer was a member of Summer Memorial Lutheran Church and a former member of the Newberry Fine Arts Club.
Mrs. Fulmer is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Fulmer and John Wall, III of Alpharetta, GA and Susan L. Fulmer of Columbia; a son and daughter-in-law, Lloyd C. and Sarah Fulmer, Jr. of Lilburn, GA; a sister, Margaret McElveen of Columbia; three grandchildren and spouses, John H. “Bert”and Donna Wall, IV of Acworth, GA, Catherine Wall and Nick Nunziata of Alpharetta, GA, and Jonathan C. Fulmer and Alison of Anderson; three great grandchildren, Steven Wall, Sofia Nunziata, and Logan Fulmer. She was predeceased by a brother, Moody McElveen.
Funeral services for Peace McElveen Fulmer will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at Summer Memorial Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Weaver, Rev Kathy Harris, and Rev. Gary Loadholt. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from to 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.

Lucia Hunter Spotts
November 30, 2005

Lucia Hunter Spotts, 90, of formerly 2401 Wilson Road, Newberry, widow of Fuller D. Spotts, died Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at the home of her son.
Mrs. Spotts was born on June 19, 1915, in Newberry County, a daughter of the late Rufus B. and Annie Morris Hunter. She was a homemaker and former co-owner of Eagle Construction Company, a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, life member of the W. E. L. C. A., the Fifty Plus, a member of the Country Club of Newberry and a former member of the Marion Davis Mothers’ Club.
Mrs. Spotts is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Bob Mathews of Conover, NC; a son and daughter-in-law, Philip M. and Kathy Spotts of Newberry; eight grandchildren, Cathy Spotts Hamilton of Knoxville, TN, Jeff Spotts of Chapin, Jill Spotts of Greer, Paige Mathews Woodward and husband, Greg M. Woodward of Greensboro, NC, Bart Mathews and wife Patti Feeny Mathews of Lilburn, GA, Chad Mathews of Lilburn, GA, Hunter Spotts and wife, Wendy Pieffer of Baltimore, MD Langston Spotts and wife, Christie of Irmo; four great grandsons; three step-grandchildren, Kelley Pfeffer of Ashburn, VA, Kenley Loftis of Irmo, and Kathryn Hampton of Columbia; and five step-great-grandsons. She was predeceased by a son, Al Spotts, and six brothers and one sister.
Funeral services for Lucia Hunter Spotts will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. Friday at Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Steve Counts. Interment will be in the Rosemont Cemetery, Springdale Section.
Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Philip M. Spotts, 8660 SC Hwy 395, Newberry.

Chesley H. “C. H.” Minick, Jr
November 27, 2005

Chesley H. “C. H.” Minick, Jr, 87, of 269 Minick Rd, Newberry, died Sunday, November 27, 2005 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Minick was born on December 11, 1917 in Newberry County. He was a son of the late Chesley H. and Nancy Morris Minick. He was a retired employee of the Kendall Company, Oakland Plant and was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
Mr. Minick was twice married, first to the late Edna Morris Minick and second to the late Sadie Hawkins Minick.
He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cheryl and Wilbert Lucas of Newberry, Joyce and Gerald Cockrell of Saluda and Carolyn Shealy of Prosperity; three sons and daughters-in-law, Randall and Kathy Minick, Chesley and Robyn Minick and Gordon and Carolyn Minick all of Newberry; four stepdaughters; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son-in-law Larry C. Shealy, four sisters, Sallie Perdue, Mallie Ringer, Dolly Minick and Juanita Ruff; four brothers, Gary Minick, Legrande Minick, John Minick and George "Little Jack" Minick; and a stepson. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral services for Chesley H. “C. H.” Minick, Jr. will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Art Hallman. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7:00 – 8:30 P.M. Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
The family will be at his residence, 269 Minick Road, Newberry.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons: Bert Lucas, Joe Minick, Dean Minick, Kevin Minick, Keith Minick, Kyle Minick and Clint Shealy.
Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall Fund, 4056 St. Luke’s Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127.

Flavel Scott (Scottie) Elliott, Jr.
November 26, 2005

Flavel Scott (Scottie) Elliott, Jr., 71, of Newberry, died Saturday, November 26, 2005 at Newberry Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Elliott will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Miller with visitation prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. in the Henry Hall of the Church. Interment will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Newberry.
Mr. Elliott was born October 1, 1934 in Asheville, North Carolina, son of the late Dr. Flavel Scott Elliott and the late Rosalie Conn Elliott. Scottie moved to Newberry at age 12 and was a graduate of Newberry High School. He grew to become one of Newberry’s best-known citizens. He was a life-long member of Central United Methodist Church, the Chesley Cannon Men’s Sunday School class, and United Methodist Men. He served as an usher and in recent years Scottie was very proud to be responsible for opening and securing the Church buildings for services. He was a loyal Church member and participated in many Church Activities.
Scottie was an avid sports fan and attended virtually every Newberry High and Newberry College sports event to cheer for his teams. He traveled with the teams and was recognized by both schools for his loyal support as the number one fan. In addition to being a fixture at most games, he was a life member of the Newberry High School Bulldog Booster Club and the Newberry College Indian Club. He played city and church league softball for years and followed all sports intently. He was known for his evening calls to friends offering a play-by-play description of the most recent sporting event.
Scottie served his community as a member of the Newberry Civitan Club, which had honored him as Civitan of the year. He also served as Assistant Sergeant at Arms of the South Carolina Civitan organization. He loved to attend the annual Civitan conventions where he was welcomed by many friends. Special appreciation is owed to Bryan Bobo and Jim Seeley who assisted Scottie in travel to many of these meetings.
He was a charter member of the Newberry Historical Society and a life member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Scottie was a loyal friend who always took time to phone his friends nightly to say hello and offer a sports report or a reminder of some future event.
He is survived by extended family and by many friends who will miss his nightly calls but will remember them as constant gestures of his love and concern.
Scottie’s friends wish to express much gratitude to the staff and doctors of Newberry Memorial Hospital for their sincere compassion and excellent care during his illness.
Active pallbearers will be John Paul Whitaker, Jackie Swindler, Tony Powell, John Rucker, Tim Medlin, Tommy Johnson, Bill Harvey, Bubba Griffith, and Lee Foster.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Chesley Cannon Men’s Bible Class, United Methodist Men, and Ushers of Central United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be sent to the Scottie Elliott Athlete Scholarship Fund, c/o Newberry College Indian Club, 2100 College St., Newberry SC 29108.
