BEAUFORT — Dr. Barry T. Parker of Lady’s Island, 70, husband of Joyce Harvey Parker, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at his home. Born April 17, 1929, in Maryfield, Saskatchewan, Canada, he was a son of the late Charles Joseph Parker and Mabel Sissons Parker. Dr. Parker attended St. John’s College in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and graduated from Palmer College in Davenport, Iowa. He was a practicing chiropractor in Sumter for 34 years before retiring to Beaufort in 1990. Survivors besides his wife of Beaufort include a son, Barry C. Parker of Savannah, Ga.; three daughters, Heidi L. Paterson of Parker, Ariz., Sally A. Frost of Norfolk, Va., and Lynn A. Habberstad of Hilton Head; and eight grandchildren. Services will be private. Memorials may be made to American Hospice Care Foundation, 41 Goethe Road, Bluffton, SC 29910. Copeland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

LUTHER L. SINGLETARY JR

LAKE CITY — Luther Levern Singletary Jr., 54, husband of Barbara L. Singletary, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence after a short illness. The family will receive friends at the home, 2647 Huggins Road, Lot 2.
Services will be announced by Green’s Funeral Home and New Zion Baptist Church in the Camerontown community of Lake City.

CAROLINA P. BAGNAL

MANNING — Carolina Pugh Bagnal, 93, widow of the Rev. Isaac Moultrie Bagnal, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at the Presbyterian Home in Summerville. Born Oct. 5, 1906, in Kingstree, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Griffith T. and Lila Wayne Epps Pugh. Mrs. Bagnal was a graduate of Winthrop College. She taught art for many years and was well known for her many landscape designs created in oil and other media, as well as her original creations of hand-painted china. She was an accomplished designer of various forms of needlework. She was active in the lay ministry in the numerous Presbyterian churches served by her husband for more than 50 years throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Scotland. Survivors include a brother, Dr. Griffith T. Pugh Jr. of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sisters, Lila P. Sturgis of Rock Hill and Ann P. Spinks of Tryon, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. William J. Holmes officiating. Burial will be in Manning Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Presbyterian Home in Summerville. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

EMMA R. BRIGGS

Emma Robin Briggs, wife of Alphonso Briggs, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born July 4, 1922, in Calhoun County, she was a daughter of the late Adam Robin and Lucy Robinson Robin. Mrs. Briggs was a lifelong member of Bethel AME Church. She worked untiringly in many ministries including senior choir, intermediate usher, homecoming/budget committee, senior missionary society, steward and Stewardess Board No. 2. She was crowned Woman of the Year and Grandmother of the Year several times. She was employed as a private caregiver. Survivors besides her husband include two sons, Norbert Clay Briggs of Sumter and Robert Tilry Briggs of Eastover; a sister, Janie R. Rhinehart of Sumter; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Briggs. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel AME Church, East Calhoun Street, with the Rev. Robert Galloway officiating, assisted by Dr. George C. Sanders, the Rev. A. Hill, the Rev. Alonzo Snipes and the Rev. T. Dinkins. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park. The casket will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. The funeral procession will leave at 2 p.m. from the home of Alphonso Briggs, 207 Best St. The family will receive friends at the same home. Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

JUANZELL E. CAMPBELL

Juanzell Emily Campbell died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at 4125 Furman Field Road. Born April 17, 1954, in New York, N.Y., she was a daughter of Dorothy Patterson Campbell and the late Thomas Campbell. She attended the public schools in Manhattan, N.Y. Survivors besides her mother of Sumter include a brother, Thomas Campbell Jr. of Florence; a sister, Linda Campbell of Manhattan, N.Y.; an aunt, Kathleen Patterson of Dalzell; and an uncle, Nicillo Shatawayo of California. She was preceded in death by a sister, Desiree Campbell. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Funeral Home Inc. with the Rev. Ernest Jackson officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Kathleen Patterson, 120 Annie Court, Dalzell. Williams Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

JEANNE S. KUMMERO

Jeanne Stokes Kummero died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Eldridge E. Stokes and Hallie M. Stokes of Bishopville. Mrs. Kummero was a member of the Shepherd’s Center and was a registered nurse employed by NHC Healthcare of Sumter. She was the author of “Mini Tours of South Carolina.” Survivors include a son, Brett Kummero of Sumter; a daughter, Elizabeth Markley of Seminole, Fla.; a brother, Bob Stokes of Chapin; a sister, Sarah Steadman of Mt. Pleasant; and a grandson, Thomas Kummero of Hull, Ga. Memorials may be made to Friends of the Library, c/o Sumter County Library, 111 N. Harvin St., Sumter, SC 29150.

BISHOPVILLE — Mannie Pace, widow of Ernest Pace, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at a local nursing center. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late John Brown and Sarah Davis Brown. Mrs. Pace was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, John “Billy” Pace of Clemson; a daughter, Sarah Shirley of Pendleton; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethel United Methodist Church in Oswego with the Rev. Michael Henderson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Smith, 216 Bradley Ave., Bishopville. WILLIE T. RICKS JR

Willie Thomas Ricks Jr., widower of Matilda Williams Ricks, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born Aug. 14, 1914, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Willie Ricks Sr. and Rosa Singleton Ricks. Mr. Ricks professed Christ in his youth and joined High Hill AME Church. Survivors include a son, James Williams of Rembert; a daughter, Frances Dixon of Horatio; a brother, John Ricks of Dalzell; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Julius Williams Sr.; and a grandson. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. at High Hills AME Church with the Rev. M.C. Ragin officiating, assisted by the Rev. Frankie D. Thomas, the Rev. Sammie D. Simmons and Minister Lillian W. Reynolds. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. The family will receive friends at the home of John Ricks, 5650 Fish Road, Dalzell. Job’s Mortuary Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Roosevelt Blanding died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, in Thomasville.
Mr. Blanding was born in Clarendon County, S.C.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Dorothy Blanding, Route 5, Box 785, Old Silver Road, Manning, S.C., beginning Tuesday, Feb. 15.
Services will be announced by Fleming-DeLaine Funeral Home in Manning, S.C.

JESTER C. BRANNON

Jester Annie Chaney Brannon, 62, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at her home.
Born in Columbia, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Andy Chaney and Vivian Marie Hollaway Chaney.
She was the mother of two daughters, Diana Kast of Sumter and Candy Hurt of Shiloh.
Services will be announced by Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home.

DEQUILLA JACOBS

Dequilla Jacobs of 2575 Blessed Lane, Pinewood, 71, widow of Norman Jacobs, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born March 3, 1928 in Nutalburg, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Walter Watson and Savannah Twitty Watson.
The family will receive friends at the home of her sister, the Rev. Veretta Cummings, 2540 Sparkleberry Landing Road, Pinewood.
Services will be announced by Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc.

Algie B. Keith, widow of David Keith, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born May 9, 1928, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Brogdon and Rena Fleming Brogdon.

Annie Lisbon, widow of Joe Lisbon Sr., died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at the Hermina Traeye Nursing Home on John’s Island.
Born June 25, 1915, in Elliott, she was a daughter of the late Wesley Durant and Mary Casey Durant.
Services will be announced by Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Eva Mae Lowery of 626 I St., N.E., died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, after an illness.
Born May 14, 1927, in Sumter County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Doc Washington and Leater Knots.
Services will be announced by Jefferson Funeral Home in Lynchburg, S.C.

James Mack Jr., husband of Mattie Lue Gaymon Mack, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 10, 1949, in Sumter, he was a son of Annie Charles Mack and the late James Mack Sr.

Elizabeth Walters of 218 Wadford St. died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Beatrice Williams Baker died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Hopewell Healthcare Center. Born May 1, 1901, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Jordon and Mary Magdaline McCoy Williams. She attended Sumter County public schools. She was a former member of St. Paul AME Church. Survivors include a brother, James Williams of Jamaica, Queens, N.Y.; and 13 nephews and 18 nieces. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home Inc. with the Rev. Ernest Jackson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Frank E. Williams Sr. Burial will be in Wells Cemetery in Alcolu. The funeral procession will leave at 1:30 p.m. from the home of her niece, Juanita Williams, 554 S. COLUMBIA — Carl Lee “Cotton” Coleman Sr., 41, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital. Born March 15, 1958, in Columbia, he was a son of Victoria “Mert” Robinson Coleman and the late Malcolm Ray Coleman Sr. Mr. Coleman attended Richland County public schools and A.C. Flora High School. He was employed as a custodian with Richland School District 1 and also at G&S Janitorial Services in Columbia. Survivors besides his mother of Columbia include a son, Carl L. Coleman Jr. of Columbia; a daughter, Senior Airman Nicole Michelle Gardner of Columbia; three brothers, Malcolm Ray Coleman Jr., Cedrick B. Coleman and Staff Sgt. Gregory Watson, all of Columbia; five sisters, Carrie M. Coleman, Shelia Coleman, Jacqueline Morant, Catherine Pearson and Rosemary Robinson, all of Columbia; and his maternal grandmother, Carrie “Rosa” M. Robinson of Columbia. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Palmer Memorial Chapel in Columbia with Pastor Danny C. Swilly officiating, assisted by Evangelist Freda Grant, Evangelist Herbert Robinson, Pastor Douglas Franklin and Pastor Eddie Bellamy. Burial will be in Palmetto Cemetery. JOHNNY FELDER

Johnny “Fox” Felder died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at Calvary Hospital in Bronx, N.Y. Born Aug. 5, 1949, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Lemirah Shaw and Sarah Sharpe Felder. Mr. Felder attended Bethlehem Baptist Church in his youth, and he attended Sumter County public schools. At the age of 16, he moved to New York where he was employed in several occupations throughout his lifetime. In the late 1960s, he married Joann Jenkins, and to this union two children were reared. Survivors include a son, Johnny Calvin Jenkins of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, William Felder of Arcadia, Fla., and Charles Felder of Bartow, Fla.; three sisters, Betty Ann Miller of Sumter, Leila Mae Felder of Philadelphia, Pa., and Edith Grant of Wauchula, Fla.; and a grandchild of Brooklyn. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Colandra Felicia Felder. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Vernon Dixon officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery in Alcolu. The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Betty Miller, 1340 Crowndale Drive. Jesse Willis Gaylord, 77, husband of Mattie Lee Nunnery Gaylord, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Mack Madison Gaylord and Cora Mae Mitchum Gaylord. Mr. Gaylord was a member of Northside Baptist Church. He was retired from Sun Oil Co. Survivors besides his wife of Sumter include three sons, Jesse Willis Gaylord Jr. of Mobile, Ala., Daniel Lee Gaylord of Sumter and Thomas Andrew Gaylord of Lynchburg; three brothers, Mack Gaylord of Rembert, LeRoy Gaylord of Charleston and Gerald Gaylord of Dalzell; a sister, Ella Mae Cashwell of Elgin; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with Alvin Moore officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Nephews and brothers-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Members of the W.S.C. Sunday School Class will be honorary pallbearers. Frances Juanita James, 85, widow of Joseph H. James, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born Jan. 11, 1915, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Frank Singleton Sr. and Rosa Dixon Singleton. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Louise Harden of New York, N.Y.; two brothers, Frank Singleton Jr. and Sam Singleton, both of Sumter; two sisters, Annie B. Singleton of New York, N.Y., and Lillie Mae Robinson of Sumter; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ, Kingsbury Road, with Brother Melvin Sapp officiating. The family will receive friends at the home, 4263 Confederate Road. LYNCHBURG — James “Bubba” Rouse, widower of Lula Mae Anderson Rouse, died Thursday, February 10, 2000. Born April 28, 1919, in Dog Island in Lee County, he was a son of the late Gussie and Lucille Rouse. Mr. Rouse attended Lee County public schools. He was a member of St. Matthew AME Church in Lynchburg. He was employed as a cotton gin mill worker and as a farmer. Survivors include four sons, Thomas James Rouse of Newark, N.J., and George Rouse, Harry Lee Rouse and Michael Rouse, all of Lynchburg; eight daughters, Betty Ann Jones of Myrtle Beach, Freddie Mae Anderson, Emma Earl Yancy and Elease Mitchell, all of Newark, N.J., Marie Rouse of Lynchburg, Emma Jackson of Harlock, N.C., Philiphia Woodcock of San Marcos, Calif., and Linda Rouse of Las Vegas, Nev.; three brothers, William Bill Rouse of Baltimore, Md., and Jeff Rouse and Herbert Rouse, both of Lynchburg; five sisters, Gussie Rouse Scott of Baltimore, Lucile Dickey, Mary Lowery and Rebecca Evans, all of Lynchburg, and Hattie Rouse Gamble of Maryland; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elouise Dorcelous Rouse; three brothers, Thomas Rouse, Truelock Rouse and Isaac Rouse; and a sister, Clara Rouse Carter. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew AME Church with the Rev. Sammie L. Gary officiating. Burial will be in Sanders Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Nieces will serve as flower bearers. The funeral procession will leave at 2:45 p.m. from the home, 101 Clavon St. The family will receive friends at the same home.
