M. Ruth Nelson

LAURENS -- M. Ruth Nelson, 80, widow of Cole B. Nelson, of 113 Woodrow St., died Friday, June 25, 2004, at Laurens County Hospital.

Born in Laurens County, she was the daughter of the late M. Willard and Elizabeth Bailey Sellers. She was retired from Torrington Bearing Co. and was a member of Laurens Second Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Violet N. Lanier of Clinton, Blanche N. Pulley and Rosie N. McGinty, both of Laurens, and Frances N. LeRoy of Seneca; sister, Amanda Wilkie of Clinton; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services are at 3 p.m. Saturday at Laurens Second Baptist Church by the Revs. J.D. Shilflet and Rhett Wilson and Dr. Joseph W. Smith Jr.; burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Family members will be at their respective homes.

The Kennedy Mortuary, Laurens, is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Babb Warren

Dec. 15, 1945 -- June 25, 2004

LAVONIA -- Mrs. Mary Babb Warren, age 58, of 32 Green Acres Circle, Lavonia, died early Friday morning, June 25, 2004 at her home.

Born December 15, 1945 in Lenior, NC, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Nora Clark Babb.

Mrs. Warren was employed with the State of Georgia from 1966-2000. She worked in both the Surplus Property Division and the Georgia Net Authority. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lavonia where she had served in the capacity of Church Secretary and also enjoyed catering the church's Wednesday night meals.

She was also a member of the Tugaloo Art Guild.

Mrs. Warren and her husband moved from the Atlanta area to Lavonia in 2001.

Survivors include her husband, George O. Warren of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gigi and Fred Barth of Roswell and Windy and Casey Fortenberry of Douglasville; one half sister, Cynthia Wright of Hickory, NC; two brothers, Robert Babb of Greensboro, NC and Jerry Babb of Hartwell; three grandchildren, Adam, Skylar and Dylan Barth.

In addition to her parents, two brothers predeceased her, David Babb and Charles Babb.

Funeral services for Mrs. Warren will be Sunday, June 27, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hamby Funeral Home in Lavonia with Dr. Larry Finger officiating.

Interment will follow in the Lavonia City Cemetery.

The body is at the funeral home where the family will receive friends on Saturday, June 26, 2004 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Flowers are acceptable as a memorial tribute, however memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Lavonia in Mrs. Warren's memory.

Hamby Funeral Home, 355 Bear Creek Road, Lavonia, is serving the Warren family at this time.

Nell M. Banister

July 22, 1920 -- June 23, 2004

BELTON -- Nell McCoy Banister, 83, formerly of 918 S.C. 252, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at NHC HealthCare of Anderson.

Born in Anderson County, she was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church, was retired from the Scott Co. and was a homemaker.

Surviving are sisters, Jamie E. Elgin and Mable M. Robinson, both of Belton.

She was the widow of William Gary "Mutt" Banister and was the daughter of the late J. Roy McCoy and Eupha McCoy Thompson. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob R. McCoy and William Don McCoy.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Long Branch Baptist Church by the Rev. Wayne Watson; burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Long Branch Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Family members will be at their respective homes.

Flowers are optional. The family suggests memorials be made to Long Branch Baptist Church Building Fund, 2101 S.C. 413, Anderson, S.C. 29621 or to the charity of one's choice.

The McDougald Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Perry M. Tillman

IVA -- Perry M. Tillman Sr. of 112 Tillman Harris Road died Friday, June 25, 2004, at his home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Woodlawn Funeral Home, Anderson.

S.T. Gordon

PENDLETON -- S.T. Gordon of 963 Belmina St. died Friday, June 25, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by D.B. Walker Funeral Services.

The family is at the home.

William Hugh Smith

Nov. 15, 1944 -- June 24, 2004

LADSON, S.C. -- Mr. William Hugh Smith, 59, of 203 Lodge Pole Road, Ladson, South Carolina, died Thursday, June 24, 2004.

Mr. Smith was born in Franklin County, Georgia, November 15, 1944, son of Mrs. Ruby Roach Barnette of Ladson, South Carolina, and the late Hugh Linder Smith. Mr. Smith worked as a salesman and was a member of Tall Pines Baptist Church in Ladson, South Carolina. Mr. Smith was a United States Army Veteran.

Survivors include mother and stepfather, Ruby and Eugene Barnette of Ladson, South Carolina; sister, Martha Cawthon of Hartwell, Georgia; nieces, Melissa Williams of St. Marys, Georgia and Wanda Cawthon of Lavonia, Georgia; several uncles and aunts and cousins also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Peppers and Mr. Thomas Cawthon officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Cawthon, Shane Spears, Larry Hall, Ryan Spears, Jerry Floyd and Edwin Roach.

The body is at the Pruitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the funeral service. The family is at the home of Thomas and Martha Cawthon, 124 Sundown Circle, Hartwell, Georgia.

Brandon Lee Partain

ANDERSON - Brandon Lee Partain, 23, of 24 Lemans Drive died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.

Born in Anderson County, he was of the Baptist faith and worked for Single Source Contractors.

Surviving are his father, Amos Keith Partain; sister, Elise Partain of Anderson; brother, Robert Partain of Anderson; paternal grandparents, Amos and Lib Partain; maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Vaughn Gilstrap; great-grandmother, Marie Farmer; and great-grandparents, John and Hassie Vaughn.

He was the son of the late Angela Gay Vaughn Partain. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jason Partain; a grandfather, Robert Vaughn; and a great-grandfather, John Farmer.

Services are at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Cox Funeral Home Chapel, Belton, by the Rev. Steve Silvey; burial will follow at Garden of Memories. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The family is at the home of his grandparents of 213 Gray Drive, Williamston.

Elva Rice

Sept. 21, 1912 - July 9, 2004

ANDERSON, SC - Elva Jane Mize Rice, age 91, widow of Ronald E. Rice, Sr., of 112 Webb Street, Anderson, SC died Friday, June 9, 2004 at her residence.

Born in Clayton, GA on September 21, 1912 she was a daughter of the late Nathan Wilbur Mize and the late Rosa Ramey Mize. She retired from the Appleton Plant/J.P. Stevens after working there for 27 years. She was a member of Appleton Mill Women's Club where she served as devotional leader. Mrs. Rice was a graduate of Long Creek Academy in Long Creek, SC and was a member of Concord Community Church where she was a charter member.

Mrs. Mize is survived by a daughter, Annie Ruth Brookshire of Starr, SC; one brother, Berry Mize of CA; four sisters, Delia Whitaker and Bonnie Dunnigan of Gainesville, GA, and Mertice Abrahams and Stella Martin of Atlanta, GA; one grandson, Ronald J. "Ronnie" Brookshire, Jr. of Anderson, SC; and three great-grandchildren, Victoria Grace Brookshire, Maria Danielle Brookshire, and Jacob Alexander Brookshire.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by one son, Ronald E. "Buddy" Rice, Jr.; one daughter, Mary Jane Rice; four brothers, John Henry, Gene, Ray, and Willie Mize and two sisters, Elsie Metcalf and Maude Griffith. Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 11, 2004 at 3:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel in Anderson, SC with Ronald J. Brookshire, Larry Reeves, and Craig Johnson officiating. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family received friends on Sunday, July 11, 2004 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at THE MCDOUGALD FUNERAL HOME, Anderson, SC.

The family was at the residence.

Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

Lois Ouzts Starnes

BELTON - Lois Annie Laura Woodard Ouzts Starnes, 79, of 36 Smythe St. died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at her residence.

Born in Madison County, Ala., she was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Williamston, where she was a Sunday school teacher for Joyce Ellison Sunday school class. She was also a member of the Order of The Eastern Star Chapter 105 for 50 years and seven times Past Matron.

Surviving are widower, Willie Lee Starnes; daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" Broadwell and Nancy McKittrick, both of Anderson, Linda Joyce Cook, Barbara McKittrick and Janice Ann Mullinax, all of Belton; sister, Susie Crawford of Belton; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was the daughter of the late Reuben Woodard and Vera Williams Woodard. She was preceded in death by brothers, James Eugene Woodard and Otis Odell Woodard.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Cox Funeral Home Chapel by the Revs. James Norris and Tab Scarborough; burial will follow at Garden of Memories. The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family will be at the residence.

Nancy Mundy

ABBEVILLE - Nancy Finley Mundy, 61, resident of 478 Watts Rd., Watts Community, wife of Donald L. Mundy, died Sunday, July 11, 2004 at Abbeville Co. Memorial Hospital.

Born in Abbeville Co., SC, she was a daughter of Dorothy Sharpton Harmon and the late Paul Finley.

She was formerly employed with the Abbeville Co. Memorial Hospital, Abbeville Rescue Squad and the City of Abbeville Police Dept. She was also a member of Warrenton Presbyterian Church.

Survivors are; husband, Donald L. Mundy of the home; 3 daughters, Donna Link and her husband Dennis of Abbeville, SC, Alison Latham and her husband Jerry of Abbeville, SC and Kelly James and her husband Joe of Abbeville, SC; 1 son, Hugh Mundy and his wife Susan of Abbeville, SC; 2 sisters, Carol Speer of Abbeville, SC and Karen Nicholson of Abbeville, SC; 1 brother, Jimmy Finley of Abbeville, SC; and 5 grandchildren, Drew Davis, Ryan Davis, Whitney Stroud, Levi James and Casey Mundy; mother and father, Walt and Dorothy Harmon of Abbeville, SC.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at 1:00 PM from Warrenton Presbyterian Church with Mr. Otto McDonald and Rev. Ed Kirkpatrick officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday evening. The family is at the home 478 Watts Rd., Abbeville, SC.

Active pallbearers will be Bob Mundy, Clint Nicholson, Chris Speer, Reggie Finley, Myron Bernard, Chris Sayer, Stephen Busbee and Charles Sayer.

'Bill' Isom

Feb. 11, 1939 - Aug. 13, 2004

WEST PLAINS, Mo. - William Carl "Bill" Isom, 65, of West Plains, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004 at his home.

Born in Hartwell, Ga., he was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army and for 25 years, had been a fertilizer dealer. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are son, Jeffery Isom of West Plains; daughter, Angela Meyer of West Plains; sister, Delores Swords of Elberton, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

He was the son of the late J.P. Isom and Hallie Cleveland Isom. He was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Dean Isom.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Rose Chapel of the Robertson-Drago Funeral Home by the Rev. Glenn Murray; burial followed in Barnett Cemetery under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions in memory of William Carl "Bill" Isom may be made to Riverways Hospice and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

Roberton-Drago Funeral Home, 211 West Main St., West Plains, Mo. 65775 is in charge of arrangements.

Frank Lee Ratliff

ABBEVILLE - Frank Lee Ratliff, 52, of 2392 Old Calhoun Falls Rd., husband of Faye Smith Ratliff, died Monday, August 16, 2004 at his residence.

He was born in Chesterfield County to the late Frank Lee and Myrtle Hodge Ratliff, Sr. Mr. Ratliff was a truck driver for the Abbeville County Road and Bridge Crew.

He was preceded in death by his son, Keith Lee Ratliff, and his brother, Kenneth "Kenny" Ratliff.

Surviving Mr. Ratliff is his wife of 32 years, two sisters, Fannie Link and Linda McCoy both of Abbeville, an uncle, John Hodge of Abbeville, who helped raise Mr. Ratliff, a daughter-in-law, Crystal Bonds Ratliff Kimsey, two grandchildren, Cheyenne Leigh Ratliff and William Lee Ratliff of Abbeville.

The family will receive friends 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at Harris Funeral Home.

Funeral Services conducted by the Rev. Earl Hartley will be 5:30 PM Wednesday, August 18, 2004, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be sent in memory of Mr. Ratliff to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave. Greenwood, SC 29646.
