Mrs. Granger died Tuesday, September 10, 2002. Born in Kershaw County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Major Watkins Brannon. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Coley "Buddy" and Shirley Granger of Hartsville, SC; daughters and sons-in-law, Essie Lee and Jack Sellers of Holiday, TN, Dorothy and Marshall Johnson of Hartsville, SC, Carolyn Hall of Hartsville, SC; sister, Ruby Hyatt of Rock Hill, SC; brother, Flem Brannon of Rock Hill, SC; 17 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 10 great - great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons, Charles Granger and Heyward Granger.

Mr. Moore died Thursday, September 12, 2002. Born in Hartsville, SC, he was a son of the late
Julian S. and Sammie Segars Moore, Jr. He was a charter member of West Hartsville Baptist Church and a member of Hartsville Masonic Lodge # 173 and the Outdoor Club. He was owner and operator of Drives and Controls Specialties.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Windham Moore of Hartsville, SC; sons, Julian R. Moore of Hartsville, SC, Kenneth Daniel Moore of Myrtle Beach, SC; brothers, Frank S. Moore of Stone Mountain, GA, Richard R. Moore of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Amanda Rivera of Hartsville, SC, Daniel Robert Moore and Casey Ryan Moore, both of Elburn, IL; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Jason Daniel Moore.

Mrs. Askins, widow of Paul R. Askins, died Thursday, September 12, 2002. Born in Hartsville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Miles Walker and Bessie McCoy Hill. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Alexandra Askins of Stafford, VA; granddaughters, Sara A. Baughman, Paula A. Graham, Constance Askins; grandson, Matthew Baughman.

John Robert Sexton

Funeral services for John Robert Sexton, 76, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 15, 2002 at the Brown - Pennington - Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mr. Sexton died Thursday, September 12, 2002. Born in Chesterfield County, SC, he was a son of the late Jeremiah Dockery and Nola Margaret Ferguson Sexton. He graduated from McBee High School, served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and afterwards attended the University of South Carolina. He worked with father at McBee Motor Company. He attended McBee Presbyterian Church until he moved to Greenville, SC in 1959, working as a car salesman until his retirement in 1989.

Surviving are his daughters, Paulie S. Miles of Columbia, SC, Susan S. Driggers of Sumter, SC, Robin S. Poole of Greer, SC; brother, William James Sexton of Perry, GA; two grandchildren.

William P. “Billy” Wells

Mr. Wells died Sunday, September 15, 2002. Born in Florence, SC, he was a son of the late E. Gordon and Elizabeth Pope Wells. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, served on the Board of Trustees and was a member of the United Methodist Men. He was a veteran of W.W. II and was retired from Horne Ford.
Surviving are his wife, Flossie Vassy Wells of Hartsville, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Chip and Maggie Wells of Laurinburg, NC; sister, Maria Wells Smith of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Emma Margaret Wells, William P. "Trip" Wells, III.

Mr. Melton died Saturday, September 21, 2002. Born in Darlington County, SC, he was a son of Robert Kistler Melton and the late Marlene Odom Melton. He was a graduate of Lamar High School, attended Florence - Darlington Technical College and Francis Marion University, and previously served in the South Carolina National Guard.

Surviving are his father of Hartsville, SC; sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Charles Stephens of Hartsville, SC; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Janice Melton of Hartsville, SC.

Mrs. Carter, widow of Theo Jordan and John Carter, died Wednesday, October 2, 2002. Born in Sumter County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Julia Anne Benehaley Thompson. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and was retired from Byerly Hospital. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Wilma Faye Hilton McPhee

Wilma Faye Hilton McPhee, 66, widow of James L. McPhee, died Monday, October 7, 2002. Born in Joplin, MO, she was a daughter of Chloe Hall Hilton and the late Amos Hilton.

Mr. Gibson, widower of Annelle Harrell Gibson, died Friday, October 11, 2002. Born in Darlington County, SC, he was a son of the late James Henry and Berdie Norwood Gibson. He was a member of South Hartsville Baptist Church and was a strong Christian who has gone to be with the Lord. He was a loving father figure to his nieces and nephews, a lifelong farmer, and was a skilled woodworker who had incredible precision, creativity, and love for his craft.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Friar died Friday, October 25, 2002. Born in Florence County, SC, he was a son of the late William Paul and Theodora Miles Friar. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII. He began a forty - year career in sales and retired after 23 years from E. I. Dupont. During his working years, Mr. Friar lived in Mt. Pleasant, SC, Orange Park, FL, and Knoxville, TN.

In his lifetime, he was very active in numerous civic activities. Among these were the American Legion, Jaycees, Lions Club, Boy Scouts of America, the Marion Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, various Little League programs, and the Hartsville Red Fox Booster Club. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Nan Russell Friar of Hartsville, SC; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Terri Friar of Summerville, SC, Russ and Sheila Friar of Hartsville, SC, Tom and Sharon Friar of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Eric Friar, Sam Friar, Will Friar, Martin Friar, Hugh Friar, Mary Grace Friar. He was preceded in death by his mother Theodora Friar, and his father William Friar.

Mr. Matthews died Friday, October 25, 2002. Born in Darlington County, SC, he was a son of the late Colie LeGrande and Doris Yarborough Matthews.
