JOHN BELL

ALCOLU -- John "Bobby" Bell, 57, husband of Cleann Humes Bell, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.

Born June 18, 1946, in Alcolu, he was a son of the late Robert Bell Sr. and Margaret Frierson Bell.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 1165 Ocean Road, Alcolu.

Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

ELEANORA McBRIDE HOLMES WILSON

Mrs. Eleanora McBride Holmes Wilson died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at the Hopewell Health Care Center.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter Ms. Hattie Mae Bell, 34 S. Washington St.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced later by the staff of James Funeral Home.

MARGUERITE MILLS

MANNING – Marguerite Cain Mills, 90, widow of Roland Dow Mills Jr., died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, in The Methodist Oaks in Orangeburg.

Born Aug. 29, 1913, in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late William Odil and Marguerite Nelson Cain. She was reared in Sumter and received her education in Sumter city schools. She was a graduate of Tuomey Hospital School of Nursing. For many years she served as a registered nurse on the staff of Clarendon Memorial Hospital and later as a school nurse for Clarendon County schools. She was a member of Manning United Methodist Church.

Surviving are sons, Robert Burgess Mills of Manning, William Cain Mills of Mt. Pleasant, David Nelson Mills and wife, Susan Mikell Mills, of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Emily Cain Fraser of Lexington; daughter-in-law, Linda Mills of Manning; five grandchildren, Emmie Mills Michau, Robert Burgess Mills Jr., Ann-Tiphaine Mills, David Nelson Mills Jr. and Julian Paisley Mikell Mills; and a great grandson, Blake Burgess Michau.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Roland Dow Mills III; three sisters; two brothers.

A private family burial service will be conducted in Manning cemetery with the Very Rev. William N. McKeachie, dean of the Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul, Charleston, officiating.

Stephens Funeral Home of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

MELISSA WATFORD

LAMAR -- Lilly Melissa Knotts Watford passed away Jan. 4, 2004, at McLeod Regional Hospital after a long illness.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home. Interment will be in Lamar Memorial cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Jr. and Todd Kirven, Brian Bradt, Daniel Watford, Joe Stephens and Jay Watford.

Mrs. Watford was born in Darlington County on April 9, 1916, and was the daughter of the late Ephpriam Sylvester and Maggie Knotts. She was the widow of Elbert W. Watford of Lamar. She was a loving mother and cherished grandmother. Mrs. Watford was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church.

She was the mother of twin sons Jake (Terry) Watford of Bishopville and Jerry (Rose) Watford of Florence; two daughters, Debra W. (Timmy) Kirven of St. Charles and Mrs. Jean W. Peake of Oates; also surviving are her 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson and two sisters, Edna K. Jefferson and Martha K. Gandy, both of Hartsville.

Mrs. Watford was preceded in death by her brothers, Lloyd, Jerald, Wesley, Marion and Melvin Knotts; and son-in-law, Richard Peake, all of Lamar.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home in Lamar and other times at the home of her daughter, Debra Kirven of 5699 St. Charles Road, Mayesville.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of one's choice.

Belk Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of funeral arrangements.

NORMAN RAGIN

SUMMERTON -- Norman Ragin died Tuesday morning, Jan. 13, 2004, at Windsor Manor Nursing Facility, Summerton.

The family will receive friends at the home of his cousin, Ms. Mary Ragin Singleton, 1197 Clifton Road, Summerton, SC 29148.

Services will be announced by Dyson's Home for Funerals of Summerton.

ISAAC J. LeGRANT

LYNCHBURG -- We regret to announce the passing of Mr. Isaac Jonathan "Nathan" LeGrant, 53, who died on Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, after a brief illness.

He was the son of Mattie Jenkins LeGrant and the late Sammie LeGrant Sr.

The family will receive friends at 232 LeGrand Road, Lynchburg.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Commercial Funeral Home of Lynchburg.

GLEN BROWN II

Glen "G" Brown II, 29, of 122 Owens St., Kings Mountain, N.C., died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004.

He was born May 21, 1974, in Sumter.

Survivors include his mother, Linda Sieders Brown; his children; maternal grandmother, Jean Sieders of Sumter; and an aunt, Aloysia Eron of Sumter.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Greene Funeral Service (South Chapel).

Greene Funeral Service (South Chapel) of Gastonia, N.C., is in charge of arrangements.

HENRY McDUFFIE

BISHOPVILLE -- Henry McDuffie died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, Hartsville.

The family is receiving friends at 161 Spann Road, Bishopville.

Square Deal Funeral Home will announce the funeral arrangements.

WILLEY L. MALLETTE

Friday morning, Jan. 23, 2004, Willey took the Master's hand and joined the "Golden Christian Band."

Willey L. Mallette, affectionately known as "Joe, " was the son of the late Mr. Clarence Mallette and Mrs. Dorcus Madison Self. He was a native of Pinewood, born June 29, 1954. Joe attended the public schools of Pinewood. He later went in the U.S. Army where he served. Later, Joe moved to New York and became a resident. Joe was a very outgoing and loving person whose life touched in a significant manner all who came in contact with him. He had a great sense of humor which made all of us laugh.

Joe leaves with wonderful memories one brother, Johnnie L. (Helen) Mallette; nine sisters, Christann Williams, Martha Malletts, Johnnie Mae (Oscar) Mallette, Gladys Clarks, Eva Singleton, Emma Oliver, Elizabeth Ware, Lavonda M. Self and Tracy S. (Mack) Turner; a grandmother, Martha Mallette; five aunts, Josephine P. (Pilpon) Arrington, Ruth Madison, Lillie M. White, Lucille Phames and Jessie Huggins; one uncle, George Lee (Mae) Madison; two great-aunts, Ella Nora Spann and Ruth Taylor Young; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; among the devoted nieces, Latasha Self and McCoya Turner.

Services will be held at noon Saturday at New Hope UME Church in Pinewood with the Rev. Leroy T. James, pastor, assisted by Bishop Terrance Williams.

The remains will be placed in the church from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Funeral procession will leave at 11 a.m. from the residence of Mrs. Ruth Madison, 255 Pinewood Road, Pinewood.

ALBERTHA M. ROGERS

Albertha Mickens Rogers, 66, wife of James Rogers, died Jan. 28, 2004, at her residence, 530 S. Pike.

Born May 30, 1937, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of Wilson Mickens and Luidia Holmes Mickens.

The family will receive friends at her home, 530 S. Pike, Apt. 109.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

JAMES DUDLEY

COLUMBIA -- Mr. James Dudley, 70, husband of Amanda McDaniel Dudley, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.

Born April 27, 1933, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Marie Dudley.

The family will receive friends at the home, 507 S. Main St., Sumter.

Services will be announced by Sumter Funeral Service Inc.

DOCIA P. EADDY

HEMINGWAY -- Docia Powers Eaddy, 99, widow of Ives L. Eaddy, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at her daughter's home in Sumter.

Mrs. Eaddy was born in Hemingway, a daughter of the late Thomas Daniel Powers and the late Lula Ann Carter Powers. She was a retired public school teacher, a charter member of Hemingway First Baptist Church, a member of the Hemingway Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 156, a graduate of Hemingway High School and Coker College. Mrs. Eaddy was first married to the late James Ross Carter.

Surviving are her daughters, Margaret Carter Altman Kinard and Yvette Carter (Norman) Buddin, both of Sumter; sisters, Hallie Powers O'Rouke of Charleston, Cleora Powers Thompson of Hemingway and Pauline Powers Thompson of Columbia; grandchildren, William M., Thomas Daniel, Deneise and J. Michael Altman and Pamela and Norman Buddin III; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Hemingway First Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be in the Lake Chapel cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

DALE L. McMULLEN

LAKE WORTH, Fla. -- Dale L. McMullen of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31.

Born Dec. 14, 1928, in Detroit, he was the son of Russell H. McMullen and Bernadette Desbiens McMullen Shier. He served his country as a parachutist and pharmacy technician in the United States Army. He attended the University of Arkansas. He was employed by Marathon Oil Co. in Detroit. In 1970, he moved to Palm Beach Shores, where he owned and operated the Kon Ti Ti Motel until his retirement.

Husband of the late Evelyn "Beth" Danford McMullen, he is survived by his sister, Joan Hemming of West Palm Beach; his children, Robert Paul McMullen of Jupiter, Fla.; Georganne McMullen Kirven and her husband, David, of Wedgefield; two granddaughters, Michelle Riley of Long Island, N.Y., and Nicole McMullen of Jupiter.

A special thank you goes to the nurses and doctors of Hospice of Palm Beach County at Bethesda Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services were held Saturday at Riverside Memorial Gardens, Tequesta, Fla.

Those planning an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, are asked to consider making a memorial in his name to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Ave., West Palm Beach, Florida 33407 or Hospice of their choice.

All County Funeral Home & Crematory of Lake Worth, Fla., was in charge of arrangements.
