MARION A. DUNHAM

Mr. Marion Anthony Dunham died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Dorn Veterans Medical Center, Columbia.

Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Marion and Sarah Dunham and reared by the late Ms. Effie Dunham. Mr. Dunham was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Sumter High School in 1977. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Sumter and was employed by Union Camp and later by Federal Mogul until his health failed.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Ann Dunham of Sumter; three daughters, Victoria Tiller and husband, Willie, of Ft. Campbell, Ky., Ebony and Brionca Dunham of Eastover; one brother, Virgin Dunham and his wife, Willie Mae, of Sumter; one sister, Louise B. Vaughn of Sumter; one granddaughter, Dashawna Danique Tiller of Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Community Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Dinkins officiating. Burial will follow in Florence National cemetery, Florence.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 260 Sandy Run Drive, Sumter.

The procession will leave from the home at 10:15 a.m. Friday.

Community Funeral Home of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

READER M. McCLARY

SUMMERTON -- Reader Mood McClary, 77, of Destin, Fla., died Monday, May 31, 2004, in Cooper Hall in Mt. Pleasant.

Born Feb. 25, 1927, in Charleston, he was a son of the late William David McClary IV, and Maria Mood McClary. He was a retired banker and part owner of a travel agency in Destin, Fla. Mr. McClary was a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by one sister, Doris McClary Rollins of Charleston; three nephews, William David McClary VI of Summerton, Carl Reader McClary of Atlanta, and Leland Gregory Rollins III, and his wife, Karen Boylston Rollins, of Charleston; three nieces, Doris McClary Rollins of Arlington, Va., Jessie M. Lee of Sumter and Maureen M. Bense of Summerville; two grandnieces, Kate McClary and Laura Rollins; and a grandnephew, Blake Rollins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William David McClary V.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Summerton Evergreen cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210, or to Hospice.

DENNY D. BOWMAN

Denny Daniel Bowman, 73, husband of Barbara Campbell Griffin Bowman, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Wallace, Ind., he was a son of the late Nelson D. Bowman and the late Bessie Lowery Bowman. Mr. Bowman was a member of New Hope Assembly Church, Masonic Lodge No. 1 in Okinawa, Japan, the AARP and a member of the American Legion Post 15. He was a retired U.S. Air Force technical sergeant and a Korean and Vietnam veteran. He also retired from the city of Sumter Public Works Department with 22 years of service and also later as a Sumter police officer.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; five sons, Nelson D. Bowman and wife, Shari, Dennis D. Bowman and wife, Wendi, Roy A. Bowman and wife, Rhonda, Gary S. Bowman and wife, Patricia, all of Sumter, Clifford P. Bowman of Niceville, Fla.; two stepsons, Larry O. Griffin and wife, Patricia, and Jody Griffin and wife, Deloris, all of Sumter; three stepdaughters, Beth Helms and husband, Peter, Alice Marie Christman and husband, Mark, Sybil D. Giger and husband, Josef, all of Sumter; two sisters, Grace Cates and husband, Millard, and Helen Krout and husband, Keith, all of Veedersburg, Ind.; 23 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Nelson Junior Bowman.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Collins and the Rev. Betty Gainey officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with full military honors.

His sons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 21 Lawton Circle.

Memorials may be made to New Hope Assembly Church, 4160 Myrtle Beach Highway, Sumter, SC 29153 or to Outreach Assembly of God Church, 1054 Briar Bend St., Sumter, SC 29154.

MOISE HILTON Jr.

MANNING -- Moise Hilton Jr., 52, husband of Barbara Felder Hilton, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at home, 3046 Durant Lane, Manning.

Born Dec. 28, 1951, in the Foreston section of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Ruth Murray Hilton and the late Moise Hilton Sr. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He was employed for a number of years with Witherspoon Logging Co. of Manning and was presently employed with Felder Brother's Logging Co. of Elloree.

Survivors besides his wife, Barbara F. Hilton of the home, and mother, Ruth M. Hilton of Manning, include one son, Antrell Hilton of the home; one daughter, Kyrstal Hilton of the home; five brothers, Arthur (Betty) Hilton, Alvin, Calvin and Jackie Hilton, all of Manning, and Jerry Hilton of St. Stephens; four sisters, Frances (Moses) Felder, Angela and Teresa Hilton, all of Manning, and Lucille (the Rev. Stephen) Singleton of Columbia; 13 aunts; and six uncles.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lakesia Ann.

The remains will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Friday.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Society Hill AME, Jordan community of Clarendon County, with the Rev. Leon Terry, pastor, presiding, assisted by the Rev. O'Donald Dingle, the Rev. Darrel Frazier, Minister Effie Hilton, Minister Shirley Waiters and the Rev. Leroy Green to eulogize.

Pallbearers will be nephews and friends of the family.

Floral bearers will be nieces and friends of the family.

The family will receive friends at his residence, 3046 Durant Lane, Manning.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

DELGAR FORD Jr.

Delgar Ford Jr., 84, husband of Edna Brunson Ford, died June 1, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 17, 1920, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Delgar Ford Sr. and Naomi Carey Perry Ford. He attended the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age, he dedicated his life to God. He was a member of Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church for more than 50 years, where he served on the trustee board. He was employed by Williams Furniture Co. and later employed as a general contractor, building homes for others. Serving diligently in the United States armed forces during World War II, he worked as a tanker.

Survivors besides his wife of 60 years include six children, Delgar (Ann) Sylvester Jr., Edward Ford, Shirley (Fred) Brown, Diane Gardner, Joseph (Barbara) Ford and Jeremiah (Geneva) Ford; one brother, James Ford of Sumter; one sister, Minnie Lue Rembert of Washington, D.C.; two sisters-in-law, Shirul Ford and Gloria Brunson; one brother-in-law, Johnny Rembert; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Jeff Ford, Elias Ford, Robert Ford, Woodrow Ford and Mayfield Ford; one sister, Bina F. Gaines Sanders.

A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Marion H. Newton, pastor, assisted by the Revs. Larry Weston, E.W. Palmer, Ricky S. Simmons, Ministers Irene Anthony and Terry Law. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 1033 Old Pocalla Road, Sumter.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

LEVOLA P. PETERSON

Mrs. Levola P. Peterson, widow of Pete Peterson Sr., died June 3, 2004, at her residence, 22 S. Wise Drive, Sumter.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 22 S. Wise Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

EARL W. CHANEY

MANNING -- Earl Wendell Chaney, 73, husband of Shirley Gossett Chaney, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004. He was a resident of Wyboo Plantation, where he played golf, fished and enjoyed boating.

Born Sept. 5, 1930, in Horse Cave, Ky., he was the third son of the late Clyde and Eulah Attwell Chaney. He was a retired superintendent and a journeyman electrician IBEW Local 481 for 37 years at Ermco Electrical Co. in Indianapolis. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War, and a master mason in the State of Indiana. Earl served the Lord Jesus in the Center United Methodist Church in Indianapolis and for the past six years in the Manning United Methodist Church.

Surviving besides his wife of Manning are three sons, Roger E. Chaney and wife, Karen, of Summerville, Mark G. Chaney and wife, Karen, of Lacrosse, Wis., and Aaron W. Chaney and wife, Laura, of Florence; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Lawrie and husband, Christopher, of Indianapolis; two brothers, Wilford Chaney of Three Springs, Ky., and Alton Chaney of Greenwood, Ind.; a sister, Elry Ferguson of Columbus, Ind.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in Manning United Methodist Church. The Rev. Debra Quilling will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. today in the Margaret Jones Gamble Room of Manning United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to Manning United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 68, Manning, SC 29102, or to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

WILLIAM F. CASSIDY

CASSATT -- Funeral services for William Freddy Cassidy, 52, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Jimmy Holley and the Rev. Joey Nelms will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Northside Memorial Baptist Church, 1004 N. Main St., Sumter, SC 29150.

Mr. Cassidy died Wednesday, June 2, 2004.

Born in Rock Hill, he was the son of Dorothy Sue Owens of Jefferson and Bill and Anne Cassidy of Cassatt. Mr. Cassidy attended Northside Memorial Baptist Church.

Surviving are his parents, stepmother, and children, Shawn Cassidy (Sarah) of Florence, Chad Cassidy of Myrtle Beach and Meagan Cassidy of Sumter; granddaughter, Ashlynn Ray; sisters, Tammy C. Johnson of McBee and Robin C. Williams of Camden; brothers, Darrell Cassidy of Pageland and Randy Cassidy of Camden; three stepbrothers, Wayne, Don and Tim Broughton.

WILLIS SAMUEL Sr.

MANNING -- Willis "BoBo" Samuel Sr., 71, husband of Lou Ella Bradley Samuel, died June 1, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born Sept. 2, 1932, in the Foreston section of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Tom Samuel and Ella Matthews Samuel. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He was skilled in carpentry, construction and farming. He also served as a volunteer fireman in Clarendon County for many years. He was a member of Wilson Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors besides his wife of the home include four sons, Tom (Earline) Samuel, Willis Samuel Jr., Alexander (Ethel) Samuel, all of Manning, and Eddie (Elizabeth) Samuel of Sumter; four daughters, Tabbie (Richard) Witherspoon, Cleva Mae (Willie) Spry, Sophia (Henry) Spry and Ruby (George) Wilson, all of Manning; one brother, Frank of Charleston; three sisters, Mary Thelma Bradley of Manning, Essie Mae Burrows and Marhta Lee Brockington, both of Kingstree; 18 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mose Samuel.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St., Manning, with Pastor Donald Graham officiating, assisted by Pastor Cheryl Graham, Minister Wayne Blackwell, Minister Sammie Murray Jr. and Bishop Henry Frazier.

Burial will follow in the St. Matthews cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews and friends of the family.

Floral bearers will be nieces and friends of the family.

The family will receive friends at the home of his wife, Lou Ella Samuel, 1151 Innbrook Drive, Manning.
