PAULINE P. LAMB

Pauline Pate Lamb, widow of Jessie Lamb, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004 at a local nursing center.

Services will be announced by Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter.

JOSEPH A. LORDY

Joseph Amil Lordy, age 80, husband of the late Grace Schulz Lordy, died on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Hopewell Healthcare Center in Sumter.

He was born in Nutley, N.J., a son of the late Edna Guthman and Amil Lordy. He worked as a builder and developer in New Jersey and was very family oriented. He loved to dance and listen to big band sounds and Frank Sinatra. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

Survivors are two sons, Steven J. Lordy and his wife, Patsy, of Sumter and John Martin Lordy of Unionville, N.Y.; three daughters, Barbara Lordy Rosselli and her husband, Joe, of Joshua Tree, Calif., Donna Lordy Pollard and her husband, Terry, of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Janice Lordy Sugg of Sumter; two brothers, Richard Lordy and Frederick Lordy, both of New Jersey; two sisters, Lorraine Schaffernoth of New Jersey and Edna Sarvent of Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one brother, Jack Lordy.

Funeral services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Susan G. Kormen Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

ELIZA J. SMITH

Eliza J. Smith, 71, widow of Willie H. Smith, died Oct. 27, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 18, 1932, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late George Furman Sr. and Arizona Pack Furman.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Betty Kennedy, 461 Rogers Ave., Sumter, SC 29150.

Services will be announced by Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

OTIS LEE HANKINS

Otis Lee Hankins, 63, husband of Linda Lowe Hankins, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Bishop, Va., he was a son of the late Joe Hankins and the late Sarah Brooks Hankins. Mr. Hankins was a member of the Sumter First Church of the Nazarene. He retired from the United States Air Force after 29 years of service and was a veteran of the Vietnam War and also retired from International Paper.

Survivors besides his wife include five children, Sherry Maddock and her husband, Tim, of Hendersonville, N.C., Blaine Hankins and his wife, Minde, of Jamestown, N.Y., Dale Hankins and his wife, Mary, Jennie Banar and her husband, Jason, and Sandy Hankins, all of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers, Fred Hankins of North Carolina, Stanley Hankins of Ohio, Charlie Hankins and Bill Hankins, both of Virginia; four sisters, Edna Patton of Virginia, Della Phelps, Clara Wood and Pearl Fox, all of Ohio.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday in the Sumter First Church of the Nazarene with Dr. James Thrower officiating.

Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Larry Bonner, Clarence Coursey, David Croft, Leo Dobbs, Billy Geddings, George Hoff, Lawrence Lee Sr. and C.B. Shorter.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Crusaders Sunday School Class.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home, 250 Mims Road.

Memorials may be made to the Sumter First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 1010 N. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.

EDMOND BOATWRIGHT Sr.

Edmond Boatwright Sr. died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.

Born in Clarendon County on March 15, 1922, he was a son of the late Selvin Boatwright and Lottie Carter Boatwright. At an early age, he joined Fellowship Baptist Church. He attended the public schools of Clarendon County. He was employed at Sumter Milk Dairies for many years, Jones Recycling Co., and W.R. Mayes, where he retired in 1990.

Edmond was first united in marriage to the late Mary Anne Green Boatwright and later to Mary Jane Belser Boatwright. He had a heart of gold and he shared it with everyone he met.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Hattie Turner; eight sisters; and one brother.

Survivors are eight sons, Edmond (Lillian) Boatwright Jr. of Manning, Eddie Lee (Ann) Boatwright of Columbia, Leroy (Carolyn) Boatwright of Jersey City, N.J., Clyde (Patricia) Boatwright of Gable, James (Alicia) Boatwright and George (Audrey) Boatwright, both of Sumter, John (Judith) Boatwright of Charleston, and Terrance Boatwright of Sumter; seven daughters, Mary (Nathaniel) Osborne of Gable, Daisy (Alfred) Pearson, Runette (Buster) Eady, Anna Benjamin, Gloria McKnight, Janet Belser and Vertina Boatwright, all of Sumter; 59 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Ace Boatwright; and one sister, Suester King.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fellowship Baptist Church, Manning, with the Rev. Jonathan Anderson, pastor, assisted by Elder James Lucas, Elder Wayne Brunson and Elder James Gibbes.

The remains will be placed in the church for viewing from 1 p.m. until the hour of service.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The funeral procession will leave at 1 p.m. from the residence of his daughter, Anna Benjamin, 1149 Manning Road, Sumter.

The family will also receive friends at 1149 Manning Road.

Palmer Memorial Chapel Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

JULIUS H. TARLTON

TURBEVILLE -- Julius Howard "Pete" Tarlton, 69, of Plantation Village, Turbeville, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, in a Florence hospital after an illness.

Mr. Tarlton was born in Chesterfield County, a son of the late Ben and Edith Adams Tarlton. He was a member of the Great Commission Ministries of Lake City and was employed as caretaker of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Sumter.

Surviving are two children, Pamela T. (Malcolm) Dukes of Turbeville and Howard V. Tarlton of Lake City; one brother, Tim (Willa Mae) Tarlton of Florence; four sisters, Betty Jean (Al) Cole, Helen (Irby Lee) Poston, Pat (Phil) Harrington and Linda (Calvin) Isgett, all of Florence; and six grandchildren, Johnny L. Welch Jr., Malcolm G. Dukes and Benjamin J. Dukes, all of Turbeville, Jessica Tarlton of Florence, Graham McKenzie of Lake City and Junior Lee of Olanta.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope cemetery in Florence.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Tarlton, 2406 Broad Drive, Florence.

JAMES D. JONES

MANNING -- James Douglas "J.D." Jones, 71, husband of Frances Thames Jones, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born June 28, 1933, in Pamplico, he was a son of the late Tom W. and Josie Poston Jones. He was a retired truck driver for Moore Oil Co. and a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Davis Station.

Surviving besides his wife of Manning are a son, James Douglas "Doug" Jones Jr. and wife Brenda of Manning; three daughters, Sandra Jones Hutchinson of Manning, Liz Harrington and husband Rusty of Sumter, and Peggy Jones Haley and husband Randy of Manning; five brothers, Charles Jones of Florence, LeRoy Jones of Johnsonville, Ray Jones of Effingham, David Jones of Florence and Carroll Jones of Central Point, Ore.; three sisters, Sarah Cox of Sellers, Barbara Jean Wilder of Johnsonville and Dorothy Brantley of Florence; eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Joe Poston officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Union United Methodist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Scott Jones, Brandon Haley, Chris Harrington, Ret Thomas, Rusty Harrington and Randy Haley.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and at other times at the residence, 3931 Loss Branch Road, Manning.

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, c/o Gladys B. Griffin, 1372 White Oak Drive, Manning.

ELIZA F. SMITH

Eliza Jane Furman Smith, 71, widow of Willie H. Smith to whom she was married for 58 years died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004.

Born Dec. 18, 1932, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late George Furman Sr. and Arizona Pack Furman. She joined church at an early age and was a faithful member of the Revelation Sanctuary Church.

Survivors include nine children, Mark Smith of Baltimore, Md., Willie Smith Jr. of Summerton, Henry (Connie) Smith, Betty S. (Larry) Kennedy, Bernard (Stephanie) Smith, Nashanda S. Nelson, all of Sumter, Ethar S. (Willie) Nelson of Smyrna, Tenn., Russell Smith of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Raymond (Pamela) Smith of Memphis, Tenn.; 34 granchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six siblings, George (Bonnie) Furman Jr. of Sumter, Richard (Harriet) Furman of Columbia, Lillian Parson of New York, Henry (Robine) Furman of Wedgefield, Janie (Jimmie) Green of Henderson, N.Y. and James Pack of Atlanta, Ga.; a devoted nieces, Phyllis (David) Ortiz of Texas; a sister-in-law, Ethel (Moses) Smith of Pinewood; a brother-in-law, Richard (Martha) singleton of New York; devoted friends, Alice, Marie, Cynthia, Betty and Paul, all of Sumter; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives, loving friends and devoted church members.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Allen Chapel AME Church with the Rev. Harold O. Wilson, pastor, and Elder Terry Dinkins officiating. The casket was placed in the church Thursday.

Burial will be in Cain cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the home of her daughter, Betty Kennedy, 461 Rogers Ave.

Born in Florence County, she was the daughter of the late Martin Pate and the late Emily Rogers Pate. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survivors include two sons, Cecil Lamb and his wife, Sharon, of Sumter and Charles Lamb and his wife, Evelyn, of Manning; three grandchildren, Cindy Richardson of Manning, Christopher Lamb of Camden and Dee Lamb of Manning; three great-grandchildren, Danielle Richardson, Nolan Lamb and Morgan Hedge; and a sister, Evelyn Hayes of Texas.

She was preceded in death by a son, Levon Lamb.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with Ken Mooneyham officiating.

Burial will be in the Shiloh cemetery in Coward.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Browder, Timmy Kosh, Benny McIntosh, Chris Lamb, Travis McIntosh and Joseph McIntosh.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son, 3320 Green View Parkway.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006 or to a charity of one's choice.
