I. RUSSELL LOGAN Jr.

OLANTA -- Ira Russell Logan Jr., age 55, died Nov. 10, 2004, at his residence after an illness.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with burial in Tabernacle cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Ira "Buck" Russell Logan Sr. and Nolia Parnell Logan. Mr. Logan was the owner and operator of Russell's Barber Shop in Olanta. He was a former member of the National Guard. He was a graduate of the Capital Barber School and was the past president of the South Carolina Barber Board. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was a member of the Sportsman Hunting Club, The National Fox Hunters Association, and was recently inducted into the South Carolina Fox Hunters Hall of Fame. He was a former board member of the Olanta Business Association, where he served as past president. He was a Mason and a member of Fidelity Lodge No. 394.

Surviving are two daughters, Julie Ann Logan of La Jolla, Calif., and Carole Anne (Randy) Bradshaw of Manning; a son, Christopher Russell Logan of Cheraw; three sisters, Linda L. Green of Florence, Terry L. (Frank) White of Florence and Tammy Smith of Turbeville; one brother, Larry (Dale) Logan of Lynchburg; two grandchildren; Madison Alexis White and Christopher Mason Logan.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

LOUISE S. HARTIN

Louise Sharp Hartin, 100, widow of Edward W. Hartin, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at a local nursing center.

Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late John Sharp and the late Ella Setzler Sharp. Mrs. Hartin was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Constance Herbert Sunday School class. She was a former president of the Women's Society of Christian Service and a former Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Sumter Art Association, The Book Club, the Historical Society and the Gay Gardener's Club.

Surviving are a son, Ed Hartin Jr. and wife Laurelle of Sumter; a daughter, Dorothy Hartin Rhame of Greensboro, N.C.; four grandchildren, Donna Windham, Honey Truesdale, Joseph Burns Rhame Jr. and Edward Hartin Rhame; six great-grandchildren, Christy Hall, Stacie Windham, Mary Elizabeth Rhame, Patricia Rhame, Joseph Burns Rhame III and William Reaves Rhame; and one great-great-grandchild, Riley Hall.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen Taylor, the Rev. Phil Jones and the Rev. Brad Gray officiating.

Burial will be private at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the administrative board of Trinity United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the services and other times at the home of her son, 718 Reynolds Road.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 226 W. Liberty St., Sumter, SC 29150 or to the Epworth Children's Home, P. O. Box 50466, Columbia, SC 29205.

RUTH RILES

Ruth Virginia Windham Riles, 80, widow of James Clifton Riles, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late John C. Windham and the late Elizabeth Kolb Windham.

Surviving are two sons, Norman Riles and wife Susan of Walterboro and Jay Riles and wife Diane of Sumter; five daughters, Debbie Seegers, Patricia Hodge, Barbara Turner and husband William, Kay Gardner and husband Mike, all of Sumter, and Brenda Riles and her companion, Marcia Floyd, of Laurinburg, N.C.; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Pete Riles.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Williams officiating.

Burial will be in the Sumter cemetery.

The family will receive friends at her home, 9 Lakeshore Drive.

WILLIE C. MULDROW Jr.

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. -- Willie Coisa "Scoop" Muldrow Jr., 54, died Nov. 7, 2004, at Englewood Hospital.

Born June 25, 1950, in Sumter, he was the son of the late Willie Coisa Muldrow Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Benjamin Muldrow. Mr. Muldrow was reared in St. Charles. He attended Lower Lee Elementary, Mount Pleasant High and Morris College. His college training was focused on physical education. In Englewood, he received further training as a computer technician. He was a loyal and faithful member of Goodwill Presbyterian Church USA until relocating to New Jersey. For 19 years and six months, he was employed by Thomas J. Lipton Co., Englewood. His most recent employer was Ikon Office Solutions, Fairfield, N.J. Willie loved baseball and bowling. He also spent time as a basketball coach.

Survivors include one sister, Fredrica Muldrow (Thornie) Brailsford; one brother, Carl Edwin (Jacqueline) Muldrow; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Muldrow; four nephews, Sheldon Bernard Muldrow, Alex Antrawne Brailsford, Eric Dorrell Muldrow and Adrian Parker; two nieces, Shanene Elizabeth Muldrow and Monica Elease Muldrow; three uncles and 10 aunts, Linzie (Margaret) Muldrow, Cornell (Ella Mae) Muldrow, Pauline (George) Brown, Ada Muldrow, Lucille Muldrow, Mae Muldrow, Arlene Muldrow, Almond Muldrow, Geraldine Muldrow and Lillie Mae Dubose; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Eddie Bernard Muldrow.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Goodwill Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard Baxter, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Laddie Howard. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Fredrica M. (Thornie) Brailsford, 38 Lakeside Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.

MARY B. WEBBER

RIMINI -- Mary Ballard Webber, 80, widow of Curtis Webber, died Nov. 10, 2004, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence.

Born July 17, 1924, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the Rev. Harper Ballard and Virginia Nelson Ballard.

The family will receive friends at her home, 1023 Lang Road, Rimini.

Services will be announced by Williams Funeral Home Inc. of Sumter.

ELLISON LAWSON Sr.

SUMMERTON -- Dyson's Home for Funerals and Historic Liberty Hill AME Church, Summerton, along with the Rev. Melvin J. Capers, pastor, announce funeral services for the late Ellison "Bo Dyson" Lawson Sr. will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at Historic Liberty Hill AME Church, Summerton. Final resting place will be the church cemetery.

Ellison "Bo Dyson" Lawson Sr., age 81, entered into eternal rest on Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Kershaw Medical Center, Camden.

Born on Oct. 9, 1923, he was a son of Susan Dyson. He was the widower of Katie Mathis Lawson. He was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. In his youth, he accepted Christ and became a member of Historic Liberty Hill AME Church, Summerton. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Marines.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Sara Nickerson and Susie Lawson.

Those who remain to grow from his love include two sons, Ellison (Christine) Lawson Jr. of Camden and Daniel E. (Lorraine) Lawson of Fayetteville, N.C.; three daughters, Carrie Garnett of Suitland, Md., Julia Lawson of Summerton and Luvenia (Jonathan) Hall of Springdale, Md.; three grandchildren, whom he reared as his own, Jacob E. (Debbie) Lawson of Savannah, Ga., Lt. Lashean Lawson of Warner Robbins Air Force Base, Macon, Ga., and Shenika N. Lawson of Springdale, Md.; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a host of other close relatives and friends.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 1340 Spires Ave., River Road community, Summerton.

Arrangements are entrusted to Dyson's Home for Funerals of Summerton.

ELIZABETH HUDSPETH

Elizabeth Jane Giroux Hudspeth, age 78, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at NHC Healthcare.

Ms. Hudspeth was born in Blue Island, Ill., the daughter of the late Dennis and Hazel Gregg Giroux. She worked for Rich's Department Store for more than 20 years. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of St Anne's Catholic Church.

Survivors are one son, Randall Lee Erley of Lockport, Ill.; two daughters, Julie Anne Raffensberger of Duluth, Ga., and Sharon Layton of Sumter; two brothers, Robert D. Giroux of Gahanna, Ohio, and John A. Giroux of Mokena, Ill.; two sisters, Charlotte Allen of Chicago Heights, Ill., and Jean Scherer of Park Forest, Ill.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Anne's Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Daniel Carboy, CSSR, officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Bullock Funeral Home with Rosary at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St Anne's Catholic Church, "521 Fund, " 216 E. Liberty St., Sumter, SC 29150.

The family has chosen Bullock Funeral Home for the arrangements.

SAMPSON BOWMAN

MANNING -- Sampson "Sammie" Bowman, 87, husband of Ella Johnson Bowman, died Nov. 6, 2004, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born April 22, 1917, in the Davis Crossroads section of Summerton, he was a son of the late Arthur Bowman and Corine McCray Bowman. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He accepted Christ as his personal savior and was a lifelong member of Fourth Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church, where he served faithfully. He was a farmer and did construction work for Fred Ardis Construction Co.

Survivors besides his wife, Ella J. Bowman of the home, include two stepsons, John Johnson and Leslie "Snoddie" (Elizabeth) Heyward, both of Manning; two brothers, James (Susie) Bowman of Sumter and Ernest (Lillie) Bowman of Miami; a stepbrother, Johnny Wilson of Miami; three sisters, Susan Garis of Manning, Luetisher (James) Goings of Sumter and Betty Ann Jordan of St. Louis; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fourth Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church, Manning, with the Rev. G.K. Carter, pastor, officiating, assisting the Rev. Henry McCray and evangelist Sarah Miller. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 26 W. End St., Manning.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning is in charge of arrangements.

ASHBY WATKINS Jr.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Ashby Watkins Jr., 60, husband of Linda Evans Watkins, died Nov. 6, 2004, at his residence in Brooklyn.

Born Feb. 15, 1944, in Manhattan, N.Y., he was the son of Bernice Jackson Watkins and the late Ashby Watkins Sr. Mr. Watkins attended the public schools of Sumter County and furthered his education at Demark Technical College, where he received his license as a certified barber. He was employed as a barber until his health failed. Ashby was a member of St. James United Methodist Church until he relocated to Brooklyn.

Survivors besides his wife and mother include a daughter, Quinyanna Watkins of Brooklyn; two brothers, Lewis A. Watkins of Brooklyn and Jessie Watkins of Sumter; four sisters, Fannie W. Wilson of Dayton, Ohio, Annie W. Hough, Patricia W. Kelly and Mildred W. (Sandford) Cato, all of Sumter; two granddaughters, Kareema Watkins of Brooklyn and Ashby Watson of Norfolk, Va.; five aunts; three uncles; 12 nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Ashby Eugene Watkins.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at St. James United Methodist Church with the Rev. George McCleanon, pastor, assisted by the Rev. R.R. Hooper and the Rev. Sandy Hooper Clark.

Burial will be in Dicks cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The family will receive friends at the home of his mother, Bernice J. Watkins, 121 Providence St., Sumter, SC 29150.

Job's Mortuary Inc. of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.
