Simon Mickens Jr., 47, died Nov. 25, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 10, 1957, in Sumter County, Mickens was the son of Simon Mickens Sr. and Fannie Osborne Mickens.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Lener Winn at 5055 Dias Road in Rembert.

LANCE PRINCE
Lance Prince, 44, died Nov. 19, 2004, at Mercy Western Hills Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Born on Nov. 12, 1960, in Sumter County, Prince was the son of Jasper Prince and the late Martha Cabbagestalk Prince.
He attended the public schools of Sumter County, which included Eastern Elementary School and Mayewood High School. He was a loving and caring person who was always willing to help others whereever he lived. Lance left Sumter in the early 1980s and moved to Charlotte, N.C., before moving to Hartford, Conn., and then to Cincinnati, Ohio, where his quest for life ended.
Survivors besides his father include 11 brothers, I.D. Prince of Hartford, Conn., Leroy (Nadine) Prince, Charles Prince and Paul Prince, all of Columbia, Tyrone (Denise) Prince, Robert Prince, Jasper (Regina) Prince Jr. and Alex Prince, all of Charlotte, N.C., Isaac (Carla) Prince and Willie Prince, both of Washington, D.C., and Tony (Ollie) Prince of Whiteville, N.C.; two sisters, Heneritta (Anthony) Bray of Manhattan, N.Y., and Margaret Prince of Charlotte, N.C.; one uncle, Cornell Prince of Sumter; two aunts, Mozell Johnson of Hartford, Conn., and Mildred McBride of Manhattan, N.Y.
The viewing will be held from 4-6 p.m. today in the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St. in Sumter.

JOHN BLACKWELL
John Blackwell, 50, husband of Azalee Billups Blackwell, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born July 13, 1954, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the Rev. Russell and Dorothy Tarleton Blackwell.
The family will receive friends at 7500 Sumter Highway, Alcolu.

CHRISHONDA W. VAN BUREN
Chrishonda Willet Van Buren, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 8, 1973, in Sumter, she was a daughter of Willie and Patricia Van Buren Gregg.

Joe A. Bays died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at his home.
He was born Oct. 7, 1932, in Trsper, Ky.

Born Jan. 10, 1957, in Sumter County, he was a son of Simon Mickens Sr. and Fannie Osborne Mickens.
Survivors besides his parents include his step-mother, Sarah Mickens of Rembert; five brothers, Minister Rickey (Delores) Mickens and Herbert (Julia) Mickens, both of Rembert, Barry (Tawana) Gholson, Larry (Lacy) Gholson and William (Stephanie) Gholson, all of Sumter; a sister, Lener (James) Mickens Winn of Rembert; two aunts, Betty Osborne James of Rembert and Millie Osborne Campbell of Salisbury, Md.; and two uncles, James (Mary) Mickens of Rembert and Garfield Mickens of Philadelphia, Pa.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rafting Creek Baptist Church, S.C. 261 North in Rembert, with the Rev. Dr. Charles H. Davis, pastor, eulogist, officiating, assisted by the Rev. J. Elbert Williams and Bishop Elect John D. Belton. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.
Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
The funeral procession will leave at 1:30 p.m. from the home of his sister, Lener Winn, 5055 Dias Road, Rembert.

SUMMERTON -- Dyson's Home for Funerals sorrowfully regrets to announce the passing of Mr. William "Strapper Bubba" Richardson, who entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Lake Marion Nursing Home in Summerton.

LILLIE MAE JONES
LAKE CITY -- Lillie Mae Jones, 73, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at Ron McNair Nursing Center in Lake City.
Born June 7, 1931, in Georgetown, she was a daughter of the late Hessie Jones and Ben Cones. She received her formal education from the public schools of Georgetown County. After moving to the Jordan community, she accepted Christ and joined Union Cypress AME Church.
Survivors include four sons, David Jones and George (Luctria) Jones, both of Manning, Junior Jones of Alcolu and Herbert Jones of Columbia; three daughters, Sarah Lee (Thornwell) Anderson, Jennette Jones and Shirley Jones, all of Manning; a daughter-in-law, Mary A. Jones of Mimia, Fla.; a close friend and caregiver, Sarah Dixon of Manning; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and a host of step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Lee R. Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St., Manning, with the Rev. O'Donald Dingle, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Antonio Lee.
Burial will be in Manning cemetery.

EVELYN DURANT
GABLE -- Evelyn Hudson Wheeler Durant, 86, widow of John Wheeler and Westley Durant, died Nov. 29, 2004, at Mariner Health of Sumter West.
Born March 22, 1918, in Mayesville, she was a daughter of the late Jenkin Hudson and Dora Fleming Hudson.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Charles Thomas, 3701 Farmington Road, Gable.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.
CHARLES R. SHOE
Charles R. Shoe entered into eternal rest on the morning of Nov. 28, 2004. He was vice president and treasurer of Carolina Eastern Inc. and a number of other corporations with which Carolina Eastern is affiliated. He was formerly vice president and city executive officer of the Citizens and Southern National Bank in Sumter and senior vice president of The National Bank of South Carolina.
He was born in Fayetteville, N.C., and was the son of Rose McLeod and Charles Adam Shoe, both deceased.
He is survived by his wife "B.J., " son, Ronald Victor, daughter-in-law, Kristin Shoe, and their children, Charles Thomas and Mary Margaret Kirkland Shoe, who live in Birmingham, Ala. Survivors also include sisters, Doris Mims Coker and Marlene Satterfield of Goose Creek and Linda Bright of Macon, Ga.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Peggy Clack of Auburn, Ga., and Kay Packman of Nederville, Texas; and a brother, Donald Shoe of Goose Creek.
Shoe graduated from Chicora High School and Palmer Business College and served in the Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged after 17 months as a staff sergeant and enrolled in The University of North Carolina, where he studied business administration. He was active in campus activities and was elected president of The UNC Men's Glee Club -- a distinction he shared with Andy Griffith.
He began his career with The Citizens and Southern National Bank in Charleston in its management training program. After serving in the credit department, he was transferred to the Columbia office to establish a credit department there. He was promoted to a position of commercial loan officer and assistant vice president, a position in which he served for several years before being promoted to vice president and city executive officer in charge of the Sumter office.
While with the bank in Columbia, he was president of the Columbia Jaycees and was presented the Junior Chamber International Senators Award and Life Membership, the highest award given by the Jaycees. He was selected as the outstanding state chairman of the South Carolina Jaycees and was nominated for the outstanding young man of the year award. He was state treasurer of the National Multiple Sclerosis Association for six years and was very active in planning its fund-raising events. He was a member of Columbia's Chamber of Commerce board of directors. He was appointed by the mayor and city council as chairman of the Charitable Solicitations Commission and was the author of the City Ordinance, which governed all solicitations. He was the originator and adviser to the Junior Achievement Bank. He also served as an adviser to the bank's Explorer Scout Post, which concentrated on bank structures and participation in the nation's economy. He was an instructor for the American Institute of Banking. He was chairman of the loan committee of the Business Development Corporation of South Carolina, which provided funding to small businesses that could not get financing elsewhere.
After being transferred to Sumter, Shoe continued his community involvement. He was a member of the board of directors of the Sumter Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, YMCA, Mental Health Association, Partisans Club (a part of The University of South Carolina at Sumter), the Sumter Merchants Association, Sumter County United Way and the Swamp Fox Chapter of the Air Force Association. He was vice president and president-elect of Sumter YMCA. He served as general campaign chairman of the Sumter County United Way and subsequently as its president. Shoe was appointed by the Sumter County Commission and the governor of South Carolina to serve as a commissioner of the Sumter Area Technical College and was appointed by the mayor and city council to the Shaw Air Force Base-Sumter Community Relations Council and served as chairman of its coordinating committee. He was a member of the Sumter Executives Club, the Elks Club, The Sunset Country Club, Robert Morris Associates, American Institute of Banking and the South Carolina Bankers Association.
Shoe is listed in "Outstanding Young Men of America, " "Personalities of the South, " "Who's Who in South Carolina, " "Dictionary of International Biography, " and in "Standard and Poor's Registry of Corporations, Directors and Executives."
He was an active member of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be private.

SALLIE H. CROSKEY
Sallie Hunter Croskey, widow of Cleveland Croskey Sr., died Nov. 28, 2004, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Cordose and Ellen Seawright Hunter.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 238 Red and White St.

DELLA G. FITZGERALD
Della Green Fitzgerald, age 91, wife of the late Lt. Col. Leonard E. Fitzgerald, passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at the Saluda Nursing Center, Saluda.
She was born in the Shiloh community of Sumter County on Feb. 3, 1913, a daughter of the late Walker T. Green and Lillian B. Green. She worked in pilot training at Shaw Air Force Base during World War II and later in the insurance business in Sumter. She lived in Alabama, Japan, Hawaii and Montana, making her home in Tempe, Ariz., in 1968. She was an avid golfer, took great pride in her garden and her art and gave freely of her time as a volunteer in a children's charity program. Following her husband's death in April 2002, she returned to Sumter and resided at Covenant Place.
Surviving are one son, Walker Beddoes and his wife, Connie, of Lake Murray; two grandsons, Mark Beddoes and his wife, Luz, and Kyle Beddoes and his wife, Audra; six great-grandchildren; three nephews, John C. "Chuck" Scales and his family of Longwood, Fla., John G. Green and his family of Wichita, Kan., and Thomas W. Green.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steven Taylor officiating.
The family will receive friends at Bullock Funeral Home following the service.
