SOPHIE C. BURKE

Sophie C. Burke, 56, wife of Anthony Reid Burke, died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at her home.

Born in Santa Barbara, Calif., she was a daughter of the late Harris Clark and the late Alice Ivey Hardee.

Surviving are her husband of Sumter; a son, Todd Touchberry and his wife, Angel, of Sumter; a daughter, Megan Touchberry of Sumter; two sisters, Tammie Graham and her husband, Dean, of Sumter; Denise Maloney and her husband, Danny, of Myrtle Beach; her stepfather, Jimmie Hardee, her stepmother, Jennie Thompson of Myrtle Beach; a stepdaughter, Ashleigh Burke of Columbia; three grandchildren, Brittany Smith, Elizabeth Touchberry and Eric Menser Jr.; two nephews, Zachary Graham and Blake Graham; and two nieces, Megan Maloney and Hannah Maloney.

Sophie was dearly loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Trinity United Methodist Church cemetery in Alcolu with the Rev. Paul Goff officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.

DURANT T. GREEN

MANNING -- Durant Thomas Green, 76, husband of Betty Jean Freeman Green, died Friday, April 10, 2009, in Providence Hospital in Columbia.

Born Sept. 1, 1932, in Cades, he was the son of the late Pledger Thomas and Camilla Louise Driggers Green. He was a retired heavy equipment operator, and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving besides his wife of Manning are two sons, Terry Michael Green, and Randy (Sheri) Green of Manning; two daughters, Katherine Camilla Green Schwartz (Louis), and Cheryl Ridgeway (Arthur) of Manning; six sisters, Juanita McClary, and Violet Davis of Kingstree, Cherry Carter of Manning, Ruthie Hewitt of Williston, Nancy Richardson of Manning, and Betty Yendle of Kingstree; four grandchildren, Terry William Green of Charleston, Lance Green, Stacy Ridgeway, and Erin Ridgeway Crosby, all of Manning; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. Wayland Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Brewington cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence, 6068 Kingstree Highway, Manning.

Memorials may be made to Kingstree Freewill Baptist Church, 2348 Sumter Highway, Kingstree, SC 29556.

KENNETH BLAIR

Kenneth Blair died Friday, April 10, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Sumter on Jan. 3, 1963, a son of the late Willie Blair and the late Thelma Glencamp Blair.

Funeral plans are incomplete and will be announced by Job's Mortuary, Inc.

The family will receive friends at the home of Willis Washington, 1034 Roosevelt Drive.

Job's Mortuary, 312 S. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

JOE LEE NANCE

Joe Lee Nance entered eternal rest on April 12, 2009, at the Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, Hartsville, S.C. The family is receiving friends at the residence, 520 S. Lee St., Apartment B-11, Bishopville.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Wilson's Funeral Home, 403 S. Main St., Bishopville.

GERALD WITHERSPOON

TURBEVILLE — Gerald Witherspoon, 43, husband of Sharon Keels Witherspoon died Sunday morning April 12, 2009, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, S.C. He was born Oct. 24, 1965, in Manning, S.C., son of Lottie Spate Witherspoon and the late Deacon James Witherspoon.

The family will receive friends at the home, 2178 Pope St., Turbeville, and at the home of the mother, 1019 Old Manning Road, Turbeville.

Services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home, LLC of Manning.

ISAIAH WILSON

Isaiah "Jack" Wilson, 64, husband of Florence Bradley Wilson, died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter. Born in Lee County on March 29, 1945, he was the son of Rebecca Neal Wilson and the late Malachia Wilson.

The family will receive friends at the family home, 30 Byrd St., Sumter.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Williams Funeral Home, Inc.

ANDRENNA LAFAYE WHITE

Little Miss Adrenna Lafaye White entered into eternal rest at her home, 411 Boulevard Road, Sumter, on Sunday, April 12, 2009. She was the daughter of Edward White and Nushay Shannon and was born March 31, 2009, in Clarendon County.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 411 Boulevard Road, Sumter.

Funeral plans are incomplete and will be announced by Community Funeral Home of Sumter.

PATRICIA WELLS

Patricia Ann Johnson Wells, age 56, beloved wife of Willie Lee Wells, died on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at her residence. Plans will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home.

SALLEY – Mr. David Harold Welch, 52, passed away at MUSC in Charleston, S.C., on Monday. David was born on May 22, 1956, in Manning, S.C. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Blizzard Funeral Home, 153 Main St. South, Wagener, SC 29164, (803) 564-5333, when completed.

DELL T. SUGGS

Delle T. Suggs, 86, widow of Emmett Suggs, died Monday, April 13, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Services will be announced by Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter.

Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Paul Joseph Schuler, 91, husband of Anna J. McCormick Schuler, died Monday, April 13, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

WILLIE SCARBOROUGH

COLUMBIA — Funeral Services for Willie "Butch" Scarborough (U.S. Army Ret.), 58, of Columbia, will be held at 1 p.m Wednesday, April 15, at Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Military honors and burial will follow in Greenlawn Serenity Gardens. Viewing and visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Greenlawn Funeral Home.

Mr. Scarborough passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2009. Born Dec. 10, 1950, in Bishopville, S.C., he was the son of English and Marie Reames Scarborough. Mr. Scarborough was retired from the U.S. Army, and was a member of North Columbia Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Scarborough is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Yol Cha Kim Scarborough; sons, Michael D. Scarborough (wife Brigit), Jimmy Young Scarborough (wife Joanna), and Marcus L. Scarborough; sisters, Lucille Dinkins and Pearlene Scarborough; brothers, Odonell Scarborough (wife Georgia), Nathan Scarborough (wife Ida), Nathaniel Scarborough (wife Alice), Levern Scarborough (wife Charnell), Eddie Lee Scarborough (wife Starlet) and Spencer Scarborough (wife Linda); 2 grandchildren, Aleyse and Andy; two uncles, Ernest Scarborough and Clarence Reames; six aunts, Janie Wilson, Mamie Bowman, Jessie Isaac, Louise Isaac, Janice Dotson, and Estell Scarborough; 26 nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

WILLIAM RUGGLES

BISHOPVILLE — William Samuel "Bill" Ruggles, 66, husband of Janice Camlin Ruggles, died Friday, April 10, 2009.

Born Dec. 2, 1942, in Bucyrus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Harold Cole Ruggles and the late Marabelle Horn Ruggles. Bill lived in several towns in Ohio before moving to South Carolina in 1971. He served in the U.S. Army and graduated from Ohio State University. He retired from USDA Rural Development in 2002.

Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Harold "Hal" Cole Ruggles of Mauldin, and William "Will" Samuel Ruggles of Bishopville.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Lou Ruggles Porterfield.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Bishopville with the Rev. Paul Rogers officiating.

The family will receive friends at the home, 112 Barnett Dr., Bishopville.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Bethlehem United Methodist Church: Building Fund, P.O. Box 167, Bishopville, SC 29010 or to the S.C. Cotton Museum, 121 West Cedar Lane, Bishopville, SC 29010.

Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of the arrangements.
