JOSIELENE M. BRAILEY
Funeral services for Josielene Mason Brailey were held on Thursday, May 25, 2006, at 4 p.m. at Greenhill Baptist Church.
The burial followed in the Little Zion Baptist Church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. with the Rev. James Cantey, pastor of Greenhill, officiating the service.
Mrs. Brailey was born Aug. 26, 1945, in Lee County, a daughter of the late J.D. and Vicy Hooks Mason. She was educated in the public schools of Darlington County. She first worked at Byerly Hospital as a nurse's aid. Afterwards, she was employed with
the Thad E. Saleeby Development Center for many years and retired from there because of health reasons. Mrs. Brailey was baptized as a teenager at Little Zion Baptist Church in Bishopville. She continued her spiritual walk as a member of Greenhill Baptist Church. She loved making people happy. She especially enjoyed watching and participating in softball games. She sponsored two area softball teams, 'The Brailey Bunch' and 'The North Center Stars.'
Mrs. Brailey will be remembered as an industrious person that viewed worship and fellowship with others an important part of her life. An excellent cook, Josielene really enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.

Wilson and Barbara (Sylvester) Hawkins both of Chicago, Ill., Argeree Cooks, Dorothy Cooley, Sarah (Calvin) Murray and Sandra (Levester) Reed, all of Hartsville; six brothers, Ciron (Teresa) Mason, Allen (Mary) Mason, Andrew (Betty) Mason, Julious (Kimberly) Mason and Ronnie Mason, all of Hartsville, and Herbert (Mary Ann) Mason of Chicago, Ill.; four aunts, Teresa Brunson and Gerline Sams, both of Bishopville, Bernice Dewitt of Hartsville, and Dehlia Moore of Baltimore, Md.; her grandchildren, Zachary Wilson, Brittany (Darnell) Dubose, Jerry Boyd, Jarrett Boyd, Joshua 'J.J.' Funeral services for Robert W. Lyles Jr., 54, who died Tuesday, May 23, 2006, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Dr. Milton Frazier and the Rev. Ken Hicks will officiate. Burial will be in the Westview Memorial cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Lyles was born in Florence a son of Pauline Langston Lyles and the late Robert W. Lyles Sr. He was past musical director of the Hartsville Community Players, past musical director of the Lee County Opera House, was a member of the Bishopville Music Study Club, and served as organist in several churches in North and South Carolina and was organist-choir director at Bishopville Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Surviving are his mother of Hartsville; sisters, Linda (David) Williams, Florence, Ala., Carolyn (Jeff) Sifford, Hartsville, and Paula (Harry) Murph, McBee; nieces, Caroline Belscher, Alabaster, Ala., Megan Murph, McBee; nephews, Christopher Williams, Birmingham, Ala., Lee Murph, McBee.

ALEC 'JACK' INGRAM
BENNETTSVILLE - Funeral services for Alec 'Jack' W. Ingram, 52, were held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2006, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home of Darlington, officiated by Rev. Mitchell Ingram. Burial followed at 4 p.m. in Brownsville Baptist Church cemetery, near Blenheim.
Mr. Ingram died Monday, May 22, in a local hospital. He was born in Darlington County, son of Carolyn Shoemake Ingram Kinard and the late Kalvis Ingram. He was a dispatcher for Allied Waste and enjoyed watching NASCAR. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivng are his wife, Terri Hardie Ingram of Bennettsville; his mother and step-father, Carolyn and Harry Kinard of Lancaster; two sisters, Fran (Ray) Knight of Lancaster, Chris (the Rev. Mitchell) Ingram of Lancaster; a brother, Ronnie (Kay) Ingram of Myrtle Beach; a half brother, Hank Ingram of Great Falls; several nieces and nephews and David Singleton of Darlington, who was like a son to him.

Ruth Lee Perkins, 89, died Thursday, May 25, 2006, at Morrell Nursing Center after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 548 Cactus Lane, Hartsville.

BISHOPVILLE - Funeral services for Dell King Thompson, 80, will be Saturday, May 27, 2006, at 4 p.m. St. Matthew United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the St. Matthew cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home, Bishopville Chapel. Visitation will be this evening, May 26, from 6 to 8 at the Funeral Home.
Mrs. Thompson widow of J. Sory Thompson, died May 25. She was born in Hartsville, a daughter of the late James Hilliard and Vallela Mozingo King. She was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Drinkard, Bishopville; son, Tommy Thompson, Camden; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

June Anderson Martin, 80, died Thursday, May 25, 2006. Funeral plans will be announced later by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
ELEANOR ANDERSON
LOS OSOS, Calif. - Eleanor Page Anderson, 95, formerly of Florence, native and long-time resident, died Wednesday, May 10, 2006, near Los Osos, Calif. A family service was held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23.
Mrs. Anderson was the daughter of the late Florida Reese and Earle Cornelius Page of Florence. A graduate of the Florence city schools, she earned a bachelor's and master's degree from Furman University. She taught at McKenzie and Royall schools in Florence and was a member of First Baptist Church. As a charter member of the Florence Symphony Orchestra, she performed with them for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by her brother, H. D. Reese Page of Hartsville; daughters, Eleanor Lenney of Marietta, Ga., Floride Bartell of Los Osos, Calif., and Margaret Fitch of Aiken; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Anderson was predeceased by her sister, Floride Dubose, and a brother, the Rev. Earle C. Page.

TOSHA M. WASHINGTON
Funeral services for Tosha Moore Washington will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 31, 2006, beginning at Mt. Tema Baptist Church. The burial will follow in the Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. Bishop Vera M. Davis will officiate the service. The Rev. Jerome Douglas is the pastor of Mt. Tema.
Mrs. Washington, affectionately called 'Tot' by her family and 'Diva' by her friends, was born into the blessed union of Alexander and Shirley Moore on July 12, 1973, in Hartsville. She was a hard worker and very adventurous. She secured her first job at the age of 16 and worked various jobs until she found her niche. For the past seven years, she was employed at DuPont Investa Plant in Lugoff. She was a woman of strength, determination and high standards who wanted to excel in life.
Mrs. Washington was a member of Mt. Tema Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities. She was an active member of the Pastor's Aide Committee; Missionary Society, Adult Choir, secretary of the New Beginnings Community Choir, and Tosha truly loved cooking for the people in the community, traveling, singing and working with the youth. She always supported her children in everything they aspired to do. She was a lover of all people. She never met a stranger that she could not relate to with her big bright eyes and flashy smile. To know her was definitely to love her.

BILL GRIGGS
Funeral services for William M. 'Bill' Griggs, 79, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2006, at First Baptist Church.

Mr. Griggs, widower of Betty Gainey Griggs, died Tuesday, May 30, 2006. Born in Hartsville, he was a son of the late Charlie Cleveland and Sara Wilkes Griggs. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a member of the building committee. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a long time member and past president of the Rotary Club, served several terms on Hartsville City Council, was a volunteer fireman. He was retired from CP&L; and was a former manager of the Hartsville and Cheraw offices.
Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and JoAnne Griggs of Columbia, Kevin and Tricia Griggs of Sudbury, Mass.; sisters, Margie G. Byrd of Hartsville, Mary G. Byrd of Hartsville; brothers, Ted Griggs of Hartsville, Bobby Griggs of Atlanta, Ga.; faithful and loving friend, Beth Blackmon of Hartsville; grandchildren, Jennifer G. Schulze, Jamie G. Goodson, Ian Griggs, Hope Griggs, Walker Griggs; great-grandchildren, Sydney Schulze, Hudson Schulze and Newton Goodson.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Griggs.
JUNE MARTIN
June Anderson Martin, 80, of Hartsville, and formerly of Rumson, N.J., died May 25, 2006. She was the daughter of the late John Gudmund and Mildred Fiordland Anderson. Mrs. Martin was predeceased by her husband, George D. Martin Sr. She grew up in Rumson, N.J., and graduated from Rumson High School. She was married
to George Martin for 24 years; they lived in Frankfurt, Germany, Baltimore Md., and Fair Haven, N.J., while raising their family. Upon her husband's death in 1968, Mrs. Martin returned to college at Towson State in Maryland. She completed a post-graduate degree at the Public Health Hospital in Baltimore and served as the director of medical records at Peninsula General Hospital in Salisbury, Md., until her retirement. She then relocated to the Carolinas to be near her children and grandchildren. She loved to travel and had been all over the world, at last count 79 countries.
She is survived by her daughter, Lee A. Martin of Hartsville; her sons Dr. George D. Martin Jr. (Joanie) of Wilmington, N.C.; and John A. Martin of Seattle, Wash.; grandsons, Joshua G. Martin, Brian W. Farmer, Daniel J. Farmer; granddaughter Alyssa A. Martin; and sister Joyce A. Haebler.

Funeral services for Drexel Clay Chapman, 86, will be held at 4 p.m. today, June 2, 2006, in Magnolia cemetery. The Rev. Mrs. Chapman, widow of Jimmy Theron 'Bill' Chapman, died Wednesday, May 31. Born in McBee, she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Cornelia Baker Clay. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She and her husband owned and operated several businesses, including Bill's Luncheonette and HC&D; Truck Lines. She was a loving wife who was the epitome of, 'In sickness and in health, ' ministering to her husband through a lengthy involved illness.
Surviving are her daughter, Tammy Chapman of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Willie C. Kelley of Hartsville. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Emma C. Downey, Ruby C. Melton and Rheda C. Stokes.

ROSCOE JACKSON
Funeral services for Roscoe Jackson will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2006, beginning at 12 p.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church. The burial will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, June 5, at the National cemetery in Florence, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. The Rev. Isaac Johnson, the pastor of Jerusalem will officiate the service.
Mr. Jackson was born April 5, 1924, in Darlington County, a son of the late Luinthol Jackson and Alma Delores Wines Jackson. He grew up in the Greenhill community and was educated in the public schools of the county. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1944 and served in the European Theater during Word War II.
He was employed for a number of years with Sonoco Products Company and later worked for Klopman Mills in Society Hill. He received numerous awards for meritorious achievement and a job well done. He retired from Klopman with more than 20 years of service to the company. After his retirement, he worked part-time at the Darlington County Recycling and Waste Disposal site. He faithfully went to work there every day.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Roscoe Jackson include his wife, Carrie Pooler Jackson of Hartsville; five daughters, Vonnetta Johnson and Dornell Jackson both of Hartsville, Rachel Samuel of Florence, Loretta (Paul) Delaine of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Alma Lois (Willie) Days of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five sons, Larry (Dorietha) Jackson of Ft. Mr. Trapp was born in Sofia, Bulgaria the son of the late Arthur John and Yourdanka Boukova Trapp.

FREDDIE ARTHUR
Funeral services for Freddie Arthur were held on Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at the Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel beginning at 12 p.m. The burial followed at the Florence National cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. Rev. Alexander Davis officiated the service.
Mr. Arthur was born Aug. 30, 1946, in Darlington County, a son of Lillie Mae Robinson Arthur and the late John Arthur. He was educated in the Darlington County public schools and was a 1964 graduate of Butler High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam Conflict from 1965 until 1967. After returning to Hartsville he worked for Coker's Department Store, Sonoco Products Company and Klopman Mills in Society Hill, South Carolina. He ended up working at Sara Lee Hosiery as a fixer. He retired from Sara Lee on May 1, 2004, after 31 years of service.
Mr. Arthur was a compassionate man who loved to fish and travel. He was an avid baseball fan who also played at one time with the Lydia Red Sox. He also loved watching stock car racing and enjoyed attending races on the NASCAR circuit. His presence from among us will surely be missed by family and friends alike. His father, John Arthur, preceded him in death.
Surviving to cherish the loving memory and sustain the legacy of Freddie Arthur in addition to his mother, Lillie Mae Arthur, are his wife of 34 years, Mary Davis Arthur, both of Lydia; one son, Lorenzo (Tonia) Arthur; one daughter, Jennifer (Derrick) Lesane, all of Lydia; two brothers, Gary Arthur and Robert (Dale) Arthur, both of Hartsville; four sisters, Mable (Sterling) Smith of Tampa, Fla., Jeannette (John) Bentley of Jacksonville, Fla., Candis (Charles) Everette and Johnnie (Leonard Sr.) Woods, both of Hartsville; six grandchildren and a host of other relatives and very dear friends.

Funeral services for Debbie Thomas Benjamin, 46, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Kingsville United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. Benjamin died Monday, June 5, at Lexington Medical Center after an illness. She was a loving daughter of the late Clyde and Thelma Lee Segars Thomas Sr. She received her education in the Darlington County public school system and attended Florence-Darlington Technical College. She was employed with Goody's Department Store for several years and was a member of the Kingsville United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Timyandrea Benjamin and Tasia Benjamin; one son, Demaize Benjamin, all of Hartsville; four grandchildren, Minya Benjamin, Darrionna Benjamin, Aletrice Benjamin and Ta'Kylia Benjamin, all of Hartsville; five siblings, Clyde (Vanessa) Thomas Jr. and Patricia (Tommie) Leatch, both of Hartsville, Corinthians Young, William (Yizet) Knight and Taris Brown, all of Augusta, Ga.; a special niece, Toylesha 'Shangie' McMillan of Hartsville; a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins and other close relatives and friends.
VERA M. LAW
FLORENCE - Vera Morgan Law, 91, wife of the late Charlton E. Law Jr., died Monday, June 5, 2006, at the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of the Presbyterian Home in Florence at 2 p.m. today, June 7, directed by Belk Funeral Home of Darlington. The family will receive friends in the parlor of the Presbyterian Home following the service.
Mrs. Law was born in Harnett County, N.C., and was a daughter of the late James M. Morgan and Flonnie Gardner Morgan. She was an active Sunday school teacher in the Dillon Presbyterian Church for more than 20 years. She was also heavily involved in the Saint Eugene Community Hospital Auxiliary, the Dillon County Cancer Society, the Historical Society, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Dillon Garden Club.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charlton E. Law III and Linda of Columbia and John A. Law of Darlington; two granddaughters, Margaret L. Weaver and Sarah L. Williams and their husbands Troy and Trevor; and great-grandchildren, Lydia Gardner Weaver, Margaret Ella Weaver, Simmons Madison Weaver, Graham Edward Williams and Jane Lynn Williams.
