ARTHUR W. KING
CHESTERFIELD - Funeral services for Arthur W. King, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, at Shiloh United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery, directed by Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield. Visitation will be held tonight, Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mr. King died Sunday, Sept. 10. He was born in Chesterfield, a son of the late James Clarence and Ethel Driggers King. He was a retired barber and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. King was a lifelong member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and was honored for many years as the oldest father on Father's Day. He was a member of the American Legion Post 74 for over 50 years and was an avid bird hunter and fisherman. Mr. King was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy King Therrell, and by five brothers, James Eddie, Woodrow Wilson, Elbert L., Jack Barry and James Clarence King Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Idell Marze King of the home; a daughter, Brenda (John) Quick of Cheraw; a granddaughter, Tammy Michell Horton of Rock Hill; a brother, Calvin Hubert King of Union; two sisters, Mary Belle King Hunt of Hartsville and Millie King Gandy of Chesterfield; seven nephews, six nieces and a host of friends and relatives.

KENNETH JONES
Funeral services for Kenneth Austin Jones, 67, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006, at the First Baptist Church Chapel with burial in Magnolia cemetery. Memorials can be given to the First Baptist Building Fund, 104 E. Home Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550.
Mr. Jones, husband of Rhea Lovelace Jones, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 8. He was born July 5, 1939, in Darlington County. He was a son of the late Lewis E. and Henrietta O'Neal Jones. He was a lifelong member of New Providence Baptist Church having been baptized at an early age. However, he had attended services at First Baptist Church for the past several years. Mr. Jones was a member of the American Legion Post 53 in Hartsville and the Masonic Lodge. He served his country in the National Guard during the Vietnam era. He worked as a supervisor of the experimental department with Coker's Pedigreed Seed Company for 23 years and retired from A.O. Smith Water Products in McBee after having worked there for 11 years in the shipping department.
He was a loving father, grandfather, and husband. He took great pride in his family and tending to others' needs. He loved to work in his yard and tend to plants. His dogs were also very special to him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving to cherish his memory in addition to his wife of Hartsville, are a son, Mark(Jennifer) Jones; a daughter, Rachel(Frank) Marino; three grandchildren, Austin Barrett Jones, Thomas Marino, and Anna Barclay Jones all of Hartsville; four brothers, Grady Jones, Lorrain(Louise) Jones, John(Sylvia) Jones, and Will(Iris) Jones; a sister, Darlene(Marine) Jacobs all of Hartsville.
RAYMOND GREEN
LAMAR - A memorial service for Raymond E. Green, 87, will be announced at a later date by Belk Funeral Home, Lamar Chapel.
Mr. Green passed away at his residence on Friday, Sept. 8, 2006. He was born in Reading, Pa., on Sept. 17, 1918, son of the late Joseph and Marie Allen Kazmierczak. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Air Force. Mr. Green then went on to work as a salesman for a safety equipment company. He was a member of the Hartsville Lions Club and Lamar United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Robert A. (Carol) Green of Brookville, Fla., James E. (Sharon) Green of San Goleta, Calif., and Thomas R. (Lisa) Green of Hummelstown, Pa.; a daughter, Suzanne 'Suzy' M. (James) Folk of Lamar.
Mr. Green was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Helen Hafer Green.
MARIE P. ALLEN
Funeral services for Marie Pogue Allen were held on Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, at 3 p.m. at Second Baptist Church. The burial followed in the Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home. The Rev. J. D. Blue, the pastor of Second Baptist, officiated.
Mrs. Allen was born May 8, 1945, in Hartsville, a daughter of the late June and Maggie Ross Brunson. She was educated in the Darlington County public schools and attended Butler High School. She was a faithful and devoted member of Second Baptist Church in Hartsville where she served for many years until her health declined. Even then, she would still attend when she could. Even through the hard times, she still kept her faith and believed that God would take care of her.
She enjoyed listening to gospel music, spending time with her family and friends and watching fireworks during the holidays. She also loved to shop and her favorite stores were Piggly-Wiggly and The Wal-Mart Super Center. Mrs. Allen was a skillful cook, and everyone enjoyed the meals that she prepared. What really stood out the most about her was her pleasant personality. She was a very special person and she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Accepting the lost, trusting in God and cherishing profound and everlasting memories of Marie Pogue Allen include four daughters, Annie Jane Pogue, Laura Robinson Rembert, Teresa (Andy Tedder) Peterson and Hattie (Robert) Dargan, all of Hartsville; three sons, Paul Pogue Jr., Robert Pogue and Moses (Jessica) Allen Jr., all of Hartsville; four sisters, Laura M. Morgan, Rosa Lee James, Cora Lee Brunson and Julia Bostick, all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and very dear friends.
ANNIE MAE BALLARD
Funeral services for Annie Mae Sullivan Ballard, 82, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept.19, 2006, at Kelleytown Baptist Church. The Revs. Lin Kirkman and Kevin Walters officiated, with entombment in Westview Memorial Park cemetery Mausoleum, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ballard departed from this world and entered into the glorious presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven on Saturday, Sept. 16. Born in Kershaw County, she was a daughter of the late Tom and Harriett Horton Sullivan. She was dedicated Christian lady and demonstrated tremendous faith in her Lord. She was a faithful and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family dearly and received tremendous pleasure from having all of her family present for special occasions. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She was educated through the public school system. She retired from Belk Department Stores where she was well known for her helpfulness and dedication to countless families shopping in the Boys Department. Mrs. Ballard was an active member of Kelleytown Baptist Church where she was a faithful member of the Ruth Kelley Sunday School Class and a dedicated member of the Church Library Committee.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Milas H. Ballard Sr.; son and daughter-in-law, Milas H. (Peggy) Ballard Jr. of Bel Air, Md; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn (Travis) Walters of Hartsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Odell (Betty Ann) Sullivan of Kershaw, Richard (Christine) Sullivan of Gosport, England; sisters and brothers-in-law, Zulene (Harold) Williams of Lancaster, Eunice (Melvin) Mangum of Bethune, Shirley (Buck) Steen of Lugoff; grandchildren and spouses, the Rev. Kevin (Donna) Walters of Timmonsville, Darryl (Kristie) Walters of North Charleston, Michael Ballard of Bel Air, Md., Pam Hayes of Mechanicsville, Va., Jeff Hayes of Irvine, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Audra and Emaleigh Walters. She was predeceased by her brothers, Claude and Ernest 'Shine' Sullivan.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Hattie Mae Ings, 75, formerly of Hartsville, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at Kings Brook Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., after an illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville.

HENRY WILLIAMS
Funeral services for Henry 'Pumpkin' Williams were held on Saturday, Sept.16, 2006, at the Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel. Burial followed in the Darlington Memory gardens, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. The Rev. E. Robert Thomas, the pastor of Mt. Calvary AME Church in Hartsville, officiated the services.
Mr. Williams was born May 12, 1939, in Darlington County, a son of the late Eddie Williams Sr. and Ethel Thomas Williams. He was educated in the Rock Hill public schools. He worked as a supervisor/truck driver for the Sanitation Department in Nassau County, New York, for more than 35 years. He retired in 2001.
Surviving to cherish the loving memory of Mr. Williams are his wife Charlena Durant Williams of Hartsville; his only daughter Patricia Williams of Hempstead, N.Y.; two special daughters, Misty Cisco, and Shannon Cicsco-Midgette, both of New York City; one granddaughter, Tameika Stanley; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary (James) Hough of New York City and Bernice Williams of Connecticut; three brothers, Eddie (Maggie Joe) Williams of Rockville Center N.Y., Lewis Williams of Westbury, N.Y., and James (Ester) Williams of New York City; three aunts, Della Moore of Baltimore, Md., and Bernice Dewitt and Berthell Williams, both of Hartsville; two uncles, Jessie J. DENISE BENNETT
Funeral services for Denise Bennett, 49, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at Victory Temple Healing Holiness Church. Burial followed in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville. Mrs. Bennett died, Monday, Sept. 11.
Mrs. Bennett was born in Sumter County, a daughter of Minnie Gilbert China and the late Leroy China. She received her education in the public schools in the area and was a member of Victory Temple Holiness Church.
Surviving are husband, Apostle Harold L. Bennett Sr. of Hartsville; one son, Letel (Nedra) Rutherford of Charlotte; her mother, Minnie Gilbert China of Sumter; three sisters, Teresa Brown of Manning, Renee' Baker Baylise of Macon, Ga., and Pamela China Johnson of Warner Robbins, Ga.; two brothers, Bernard China of Sumter; five stepchildren, Dorothy James, Christopher Bennett, Debra Bennett, Harold Bennett Jr. and Yvonne Johnson all of Sumter; 12 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
JAMES W. SMITH
Graveside services for James Weldon Smith, 57, were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, at the Westview Memorial Park cemetery. The Rev. John Smith officiated and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home was in charge.
Mr. Smith died Saturday, Sept. 16. Born in Hartsville, he was a son of the late Elisha T. and Martha O'Neal Smith. He was associated for 30 years with Kirby Vacuums as a distributor.
Surviving are his sons and daughter-in-law, Dewayne and Tina Smith and David Catoe, both of Hartsville, Albert Watford of Florence; daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Tripp Timmons of Lamar; sisters and brother-in-law, Mildred Willoughby of Hartsville, Tammie and William Alexander of York; brothers and sister-in-law, William Smith of Hartsville, Blake Smith of Honea Path, Billy and Cindy Smith of Florence County; and 11 grandchildren.
LOUISE JOHNSON
Funeral services for Louise Brunson Johnson will be held today, Sept. 20, 2006, at 4 p.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. The burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Hines Funeral Home. Dr. Frederick Yebuah, the pastor of Wesley Chapel, will officiate the services.
Mrs. Johnson was born Nov. 14, 1924, in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Zeke and Meta Ham Brunson. 'Mutt, ' as she was affectionately called by her family, was educated in the public schools of Darlington County. She was married
early in life to the late George 'Bunt' Johnson Sr. This union lasted for more than 50 years until her husband passed away in 1993.
Mrs. Johnson was a lifetime member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church where she worked faithfully in many capacities. She was a member of the Senior Choir, the Usher Board and the United Methodist Women. She did domestic work in and around the community, but her real love was being a housewife and mother to her children and grandchildren. Her oldest son, Hallie, preceded her in death.
Surviving to cherish the loving memory of Louise Brunson Johnson are four daughters, Sara Louise (Clio) Smith and Mary Ann Johnson, both of Hartsville, Ruby Lee Johnson of Goose Creek, and Barbara Jean Johnson of Randallstown, Md.; her son, George (Jeannette) Johnson of Hartsville; her sister, Marie Bolden of New York, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Janie Mae Brunson of Hartsville, and Phyllis Brunson of Darlington; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and many other nieces, nephews, close relatives and very dear friends.

Funeral services for Robert Jacobs, 59, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, at Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel. Burial was in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Jacobs died Wednesday, Sept. 13, at his residence after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, the son of Daisy L. Jacobs and the late Charlie Jacobs. He received his education in the public schools in the area and attended various churches in the area.
Surviving other than his mother, Daisy L. Jacobs of Bennettsville are his wife, Delois H. Jacobs of Hartsville; one daughter, Pamela K. LAMAR - Funeral services for Annie Lee Harrell Wright, 87, were held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, at Lamar Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Tom Brown. Interment followed in Lamar Memorial cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home of Lamar.
Mrs. Wright died Saturday, Sept. 16, in a Florence hospital. She was born in Lee County, daughter of the late Lenard Lee and Lula Seegars Harrell. She was married
to the late James T. Wright. She was a housewife and member of Lamar Baptist Church. She was known as 'Nannie' to many and ministered in the church nursery for many years. Surviving are daughter, Barbara Huneycutt of Lamar; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jim Hardee of Lamar; daughter and son-in-law, Thedi and Brad Hitchings of Florence; son and daughtger-in-law, Emmett and Patsy Lowry of Lamar; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Buddy Reynolds of Greer and daughter, Mary Watford of Conway; also 16 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

PAUL ROLLINS
Funeral services for Paul Edward Rollins, 65, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept.19, 2006, at Clyde Church of God. The Revs. Don Childers, Wallace Strickland and Fred Hudson officiated with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Rollins died Saturday, Sept.16. Born in Jefferson, he was a son of the late Walter and Julia Demly Rollins. He was a member of Clyde Church of God and served in the National Guard for 12 years.
Surviving are his wife, Wilene Rollins of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Michael D. and Kim Hayden of Hartsville; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce H. and John Proctor of Quinby; sisters, Ethel Gregory of Columbia, Lucy Parks of Lancaster; brothers, Bill Rollins and Hazel Rollins, both of Lancaster, and Clyde Rollins of Jefferson; grandchildren and spouse, Michael D. CHARLES LEE MELTON
Graveside services for Charles Lee Melton, 56, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 20, 2006, at Florence National cemetery. The Rev. Wayne Flowers will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge.
Mr. Melton died Saturday, Sept. 16. Born in Hartsville, he was a son of the late Raymond C. and Lula Steen Melton. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Melton of Murrells Inlet; sons, Kenny Melton, Spencer Melton and Ryan Melton, all of Murrells Inlet; daughter, Elexis Melton of Murrells Inlet; sisters, Ann Boan of Bethune, Carolyn Rollings of Florence; brothers, Henry Melton and Roger Dale Melton, both of Bethune.
