James Boneparte

James Boneparte, 88, of 929 Nance Street, Orangeburg, died Friday, April 4, 2008, at his residence.

Friends may call at the residence and at Bythewood Funeral Home.

Mrs. Vera P. Zeigler

The funeral for Mrs. Vera P. Zeigler, 89, of Bamberg Nursing Center, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel AME Church in Cope, with the Rev. Stanley Rivers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Zeigler died March 27, 2008, in Bamberg County Hospital. She was born Jan. 29, 1919, in Bamberg County, a daughter of the Mr. John Pinckney and Mrs. Queen Ann Jennings Pinckney. Vera received her education from the Richard Carroll High School. At an early age, she joined Emmanuel AME Church and served faithfully until her health failed. Vera was united in holy matrimony to the late George H. Zeigler. To this union, two children were born, and one preceded her to the grave.

Survivors include a son, LTC (U.S. Army, retired) George Zeigler (Rachel) of Atlanta; a grandson, George Kenneth Zeigler of Greenville; a granddaughter, Vera J. Zeigler of Atlanta; a sister, Ms. Hessie Pinckney of Bamberg; two nieces, Lynette Earle and Betty Collier, both of Bamberg; a nephew, John Wells of Brooklyn, N.Y.

Carroll Mortuary of Bamberg is in charge of arrangements.

Friends may call at the home of Lynette Earle, 576 Carlisle St., Bamberg.

Mrs. Miriam Savage Williamson

Mrs. Miriam Savage Williamson, 67, of 277 Roquemore Drive, died Sunday, March 30, 2008, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, in the Columbia Road Church of God in Orangeburg. Burial will be in the Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg, directed by Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Orangeburg.

She wsa born July 18, 1940, in Orangeburg, the daughter of the late George C. Savage and the late Lucille Langston Savage. She was a member of the Columbia Road Church of God, a member of the Eastern Star and was self-employed as a beautician.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Williamson of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Henry Kevin (Mary Louise) Williamson Sr. of Mount Pleasant and Marty Darin Williamson of Orangeburg; three grandsons, Henry Kevin Williamson Jr., Patrick Neal Williamson and Joseph Darin Williamson and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the funeral home.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg.

Memorials may be made to Columbia Road Church of God, 2485 Columbia Road, Orangeburg, SC 29118.

Reba Axson Gettis Crowl

Reba Axson Gettis Crowl, 69, of 5462 Red Oak Road, Barnwell, died March 29, 2008, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, in the Cooner Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Michael Causey officiating. Burial will follow in the Springtown Baptist Church Cemetery, located off Highway 301 south of Bamberg.

Mrs. Crowl was born April 27, 1938, in Bamberg, a daughter of the late Charlie Lee Axson Sr. and the late Florence Mell Carroll Axson. She was married to Robert Wayne "Bobby" Crowl. She was a member of the Church of God in Barnwell. Mrs. Crowl worked for over 25 years in the Textile Industry, later she turned her love of cooking into her life's work. She enjoyed cooking, also visiting her family and church members. She loved her community and all the activities in it.

Survivors include her husband of 19 years of the home; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Padgett of Barnwell; four grandchildren, Norman Padgett, Roanda Rahn, Laura Overmann, L.M. Padgett, all of Barnwell; 10 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Lloyd Edward Padgett.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening, March 31, in the Cooner Funeral Home, Bamberg.

Dorothy Gene Gray Parker

Funeral services for Dorothy Gene Gray Parker will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg, with burial in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg.

Memorials may be made to Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 727 Waterspring Road, Orangeburg, SC 29118 or to the American Cancer Society, S.C. Division, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.

Frances Whitson Owens Manuel

Frances "Whitson" Owens Manuel, 88, of Charleston, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 27, 2008, at The Oaks in Orangeburg.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at the James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. Burial will follow at the Ridgeville Southern Methodist Church Cemetery, Ridgeville.

Frances was born on September 24, 1919, in Chattanooga, Tenn., to Robert and Fannie Hall Whitson. She was a member of Trinity Bible Church in Charleston. She was very well read and self educated. Finding herself widowed at the age of 38, with five children (ages 5-18) and a farm debt; she was advised to declare bankruptcy and farm out her children. Being of Scottish heritage with Christian values, she rolled her sleeves up, saved the farm, and kept her children together. On occasions, when the car would not crank, she would take her family in hand and walk over half a mile to the "little white stone church in the country." She loved her Lord and Saviour and taught her children that same love. She was involved in Bible clubs and teaching the Bible to both adults and children alike. Of her four sons, one was a foreign missionary, two are ordained ministers, and one is very active in the Gideon ministry. Her daughter is very active in education. She enjoyed cooking for her family and her big hit at all Christmas celebrations was "Mom's coconut cake." She also loved reading and was an avid gardener. To support her family, she became a very successful insurance agent and was the first woman in South Carolina to achieve the status of the "Million Dollar Round Table." If asked what she would credit her life's success to, she would respond, "The Lord, prayer, keeping the family together, while being a widow with five children and a farm debt at the age of 38!"

On her 85th birthday, Frances' story was told on the floor of the South Carolina Senate. She received a standing ovation and there was not a dry eye in the crowd. To God only be the glory."

Survivors include three sons, Mr. Reuben Owens (Vivian) of Ridgeville, the Rev. Barry Owens (Gerry) of Charleston and the Rev. Thomas Owens Sr. (Jane) of Orangeburg; one daughter, Mrs. Jan Janarella (Larry) of Greenville; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Barbara Strock (Harley) of Zolso Springs, Fla.; grandchildren, Mr. Ben Owens (Lesli) of Ridgeville, Miss Wendy Owens of Ridgeville, Mrs. Kim Verdin (Danny) of Laurens, Mrs. Melinda Raffensberger (Doyle) of Hermitage, Tenn., Mr. Tom Owens Jr. (Kelly) of Bowman, Mr. Chris Owens (Stacey) of Cameron, Mrs. Susanna Kavanaugh (Sean) of Gastonia, N.C., Miss Lauren Janarella of Greenville, Mr. Lawson Janarella of Greenville, Mr. Carwin Owens (Mary) of Lynchburg, Va., Miss Beth Owens of Charlotte, N.C., Mrs. Martha Marrero (Bill) of Matthews, N.C., Mrs. Chrissy Kizer (Ed) of Long Creek, as well as 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Price Whitson of Fairfax.

She was preceded in death by her son, John L. Owens, grandson, Barry W. Owens Jr., first husband, Reuben H. Owens and her second husband, Fred Manuel, as well as seven brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home of Summerville from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1.

Edward George Glover

Mr. Edward George Glover, 58, of 1560 Poplar Hill Drive, Cross, died Friday, March 28, 2008, at Moncks Corner Medical Center in Moncks Corner following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be announced by Shuler-Marshall Funeral Home of Holly Hill.

Friends and family may call at the residence of Mrs. Maggie Doctor Glover, 1357 Nash Road, Ridgeville, and at the funeral home.

Demarcus Marc Walters

Demarcus "Marc" Walters of Orangeburg, died Sunday, March 23, 2008, in Columbia.

His body has been donated to science.

Mr. Walters was born October 5, 1928, to Leonard Walters and Stella Haynes Walters.

He is survived by a sister, Mildred Neese; brother, Olley (Katherine) Walters and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Wells and brothers, King Riley Walters and Lloyd Walters.

Stephen B. Bolin

Stephen B. Bolin, 37, of Swansea, died Saturday, March 29, 2008.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 31, in the Sardis Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Mr. Bolin was born in Columbia, a son of the late Kenneth L. and Frances Etta Gunter Bolin.

Survivors include two sisters, Wendy Jumper and Buffy Oliver; grandmother, Pauline G. Bolin; nieces, Kathy Jumper and Taylor Frost; nephew, Robert Jumper.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Culler-McAlhnay Funeral Home of North.

Mrs. Dianne Nelson

Mrs. Dianne Nelson of 2355 Beech Drive, Orangeburg, died Saturday, March 29, 2008, at the Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be announced by Simmons Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Friends may call at the residence or the Simmons Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Mark Johnson

Mark Johnson, 42, of Miami, Fla., died Friday, March 28, 2008, at North Shore Hospital in Miami, Fla.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, in the Simmons Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Leonard Huggins officiating.

Friends may call at the residence of his cousin, Ms. Amy Thomas, 132 Lincoln St., Cope, or at Simmons Funeral Home of Orangeburg.
