Arthur Chavis -- Cordova

Arthur Chavis, 75, of 192 Highland Park Circle, Cordova, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg, with the Rev. Ashton Feagin and the Rev. Paul Hill officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Hutchins, Ricky Thompson, Lynn Buck, Kenneth Buck, Ray Williams and Robert Hoffman.

Mr. Chavis was born Dec. 24, 1931, in Neeses, the son of the late Sam Chavis and the late Evalena Jackson Chavis. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Edisto Baptist Church and was retired from Fashion Fabrics. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Myree Binnicker Chavis, and a son, Arthur Bernard Chavis.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pauline Williams Chavis of Cordova; one son, Jimmy Chavis of Orangeburg; one stepdaughter, Ronda Hoffman of Cordova; two stepsons, Kenneth Paul Baltzegar of Cordova and Ricky Bonnette of Florida; one granddaughter, Tiffany Chavis of Orangeburg; two sisters, Mamie Weaver of Orangeburg and Jewell Hutson of Blackville; one brother, Nazroe Chavis of Lugoff; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence, 192 Highland Park Circle, Cordova, and at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Orangeburg.

Erman Starkes

Erman Starkes, 53, of 1010 Parture Lane, Orangeburg, died Friday evening, April 25, 2008, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be announced by Bethea's Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home.

Glenn Otto Adicks

Funeral services for Glenn Otto Adicks will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Canaan Baptist Church in Canaan Community, Cope, with burial in the Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, directed by Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Orangeburg.

Memorials may be made to Canaan Baptist Church Building Fund, 4977 Cannon Bridge Road, Cope, SC 29038.

Mrs. Ann Hickman

A memorial service for Mrs. Ann Hickman of Elloree, wife of Bob Hickman, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2008, at Elloree United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Terry Fleming officiating. A private interment ceremony will be later in the afternoon Monday after the memorial service.

Mrs. Hickman died at her home Thursday evening after a three-year battle with cancer.

Friends are invited to call at the home at 325 Barkley St., Elloree.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Elloree United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 681, Elloree, SC, 29047; the Elloree Heritage Museum, P.O. Box 54, Elloree, SC; or Homecare of TRMC, 1895 St. Matthews Road, Orangeburg, SC 29118.

James Alexander 'BoBe' Zeigler Jr.

James Alexander "BoBe" Zeigler Jr., 82, of 823 Stumphole Road, Elloree, died early Sunday morning, April 20, 2008, at the Calhoun Convalescent Center in St. Matthews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in the Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church near St. Matthews, with Pastor Debra Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in the Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Orangeburg.

The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Zeigler was born Dec. 18, 1925, in Gaston County, N.C., a son of the late James Alexander Zeigler Sr. and the late Mary Rucker Zeigler Hutto. He was a member of the Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church, served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a Mason and a member of the Eastern Star. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy K. Zeigler; son, James Alexander Zeigler III, and a daughter, Beverly R. Zeigler.

Survivors include one son, Stephen K. Zeigler of Elloree; one daughter, Arlene Z. Burns of Elloree; three grandchildren, Tracy Barron of St. Matthews, Sloan Burns of Columbia and Jamie Zeigler of Huntsville, Ala. and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the residence, 823 Stumphole Road, Elloree and at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Orangeburg.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 21, at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Orangeburg.

Memorials may be made to TRMC Hospice, 1895 St. Matthews Road, Orangeburg, SC 29118 or to a charity of one's choice.

Mandel Elmore

Mandel Elmore, 36, of St. George, died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Trident Medical Center in Charleston.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, in the St. Mark United Methodist Church in St. George, with Dr. John H. Elliott, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. James Cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Margaret Elmore; two brothers, George A. Elmore and Stevie J. Elmore; one sister, Meko Y. Elmore.

Wake services will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 28, at Brown & Son Funeral Home of St. George.

Johnny Spigner

John David "Johnny" Spigner Jr., 87, died Saturday morning, April 26, 2008, at his residence following an extended illness.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 28, at West Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Judy Hames officiating.

Mr. Spigner was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late John David and Lillie Chavis Spigner. He was retired from Fairey Motor Company after 56 years of service. He was a member of West Bethel United Methodist Church and Camp 80B of the Woodmen of the World. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Mr. Spigner was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ruth S. Bozard.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mrs. Mary Wise Spigner of the home; son, Johnny Brooks Spigner and wife, Billie of Oxford, Ga.; son-in-law, Eugene Bozard of St. Matthews; three grandchildren, Robin B. Dantzler of St. Matthews, Mary Kevin Spigner of Covington, Ga. and Melanie Brooke Petrunich of Kennesaw, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Lloyd Coe Dantzler of Cameron, Gavin Joseph Petrunich of Keenesaw, Ga. and Madison Anne Spigner and Jordan Eloise Spigner of Covington, Ga.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home. At other times, friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to West Bethel United Methodist Church, 3001 Old State Road, St. Matthews, SC 29135.

Dukes-Harley Funeral Home of Orangeburg is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Marcia Watson

Ms. Marcia Watson, 39, of 370 Whisenhunt Road, Cope, died Sunday, April 20, 2008, at the Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be announced by Glover's Funeral Home of Orangeburg.

Friends may call at the residence and at Glover's Funeral Home.
