Grover Chaney

WEST COLUMBIA — Grover Earl Chaney, 59, born in Columbia to Grover and Bessie Ursell Sturkie Chaney, died January 5, 2005. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is in charge. A lifetime resident, Mr. Chaney was in the construction business. Surviving are sisters, Theresa Redding, Janice Chaney, Rose Jackson, Deborah Harmon, Paula Smith; brothers, Ronald, Ray, Gary, Freddie Chaney.

John Amendola

WEST COLUMBIA — John Louis Amendola died January 6, 2005, at the age of 56. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of Louise Senatore Amendola and the late Dionisio Amendola.

John was a systems analyst for Blue Cross Blue Shield for the past 18 years. He was formerly employed with Electronic Data Systems, Citizens and Southern Bank, and Colonial Life Insurance. John was a combat Vietnam veteran.

John is survived by Judith, his wife of 29 years; son, Jason Evan, both of West Columbia; his mother of Long Island, NY; brother, Peter of Hamilton Township, NJ; nieces and their spouses, Victoria and Scott Aust of Bordentown, NJ, Donna and Jerry Mancuso of Robbinsville, NJ; and a grand niece, Gianna Mancuso.

John was a very special husband, father and son. He is truly deserving of his Heavenly reward.

Services are scheduled for Tuesday, January 11, 2005, in Calverton National Cemetery, NY. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family.

Willard Sweatt Jr.

COLUMBIA — Funeral Services for Mr. Willard Earl Sweatt, Jr., 33, of Columbia, will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2005, at the Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at Greenlawn Funeral Home on Monday, prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to www.mem.com. Greenlawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sweatt died Thursday, January 6, 2005, at his residence. Born in Asbury Park, NJ on December 19, 1971, he was the son of Willard E. Sweatt, Sr. and Betty P. Rainey, of Columbia. Mr. Sweatt was employed as a field service administrator with Sysco Food Services. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son and friend.

Surviving are his wife, Silke Pichler Sweatt of Columbia; two daughters, Alisha Sweatt and Kiana Sweatt; one son, Dante Sweatt, all of Columbia; one sister, Michelle Shephard of Denver, CO; grandmother, Betty Williams, of Fayetteville, NC; aunt and uncle, Pearlie and John Hodges, of Columbia; nephew, Travell Shephard of Denver, CO; and in-laws, Theresa and Josef Pichler of Germany.

William Southern

HANAHAN — Entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of January 6, 2005, William Grey Southern, husband of Alice Reeves Southern. Residence, Hanahan, South Carolina. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. William Grey Southern are invited to attend the Funeral Services of the former in First Baptist Church of North Charleston, Saturday afternoon, January 8, 2005, at two o’clock. Committal Services will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum. Friends may call at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Greenridge Road Chapel. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of North Charlestson, 4217 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406.

Mr. Southern was born December 12, 1931, in Bessemer City, North Carolina, a son of the late Dewey Lee Southern and Lucille Whitworth Southern Joyner. Mr. Southern was a member of First Baptist Church of North Charleston. He was a graduate of North Charleston High School and attended The Citadel. Mr. Southern was a United States Navy veteran and was a retired U.S. Customs Special Agent. He was very active in his church and did extensive volunteer work.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years of Hanahan, SC; a brother, James D. Southern and wife Pat Southern of Columbia, SC; a stepsister, Katherine Biddle and husband Mac Biddle of Wilmington, NC. Mr. Southern is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Sellers

CHESTERFIELD — Mrs. Elizabeth Gaddy Sellers, 101, died Thursday, January 6, 2005. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2005, at Hopewell Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2005, at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sellers was born in Chesterfield County a daughter of the late Walter Francis and Elizabeth Irene Burch Gaddy. she was a homemaker and the oldest member of Hopewell Baptist Church. Mrs. Sellers was married to the late Robert Paul Sellers.

Surviving are 2 sons, Paul Sellers, Jr. and wife Frances of Chesterfield, SC, and William Sellers of Cheraw, SC. Also 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. Also a number of nieces and nephews, including Hardy and Laura Mae Sellers of Chesterfield, SC.

Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home is serving the Sellers family.

Frances Sawyer

MARION — Services for Frances C. Sawyer, 66, will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Marion Church of God with entombment in Palmetto Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Richardson Funeral Home. Born in Marion to Hubert and Imer Collins, she died Jan. 6, 2005. Surviving are children, Jody, Bryan Sawyer, Marcia Bartels, Sherri Owens; sisters, Dorothy Rhames, Jean Cook, Pat Love; 10 grandchildren.

Grace Smith

HIGH POINT, N.C. — A graveside service for Grace Campbell Clinton Smith, 92, widow of Richard Smith Sr., will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in Laurelwood Cemetery. Visitation is 6-7 tonight at Greene Funeral Home, NW Chapel, Rock Hill. Born in Clover to Robert and Hattie Campbell Clinton, she died Jan. 6, 2005. Surviving: children, Richard Smith Jr., Jessie Simril; sister, Hazel Sims; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.

Patricia-ann Schwab

COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Patricia-ann Fields Schwab, 62, will be held at 2 p.m. at Tree of Life Congregation with burial in Hebrew Benevolent Society Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge.

Born December 11, 1942, in Morganton, West Virginia, Ms. Schwab died Thursday, January 6, 2005, at the family home. She was the daughter of Mrs. Belle Fields and the late Edward S. Fields.

A resident of Columbia for the past six years, Ms. Schwab had been the office manager for The Columbia Company, Inc. She was an active member of the Tree of Life Congregation Sisterhood; and served as a volunteer teacher of English as a Second Language to immigrants in Atlanta; and had planned to volunteer with Palmetto Baptist Hospital’s Personal Touch Program.

Ms. Schwab is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Stacey Cihak and son-in-law, David Cihak, of Atlanta, Ga; mother, Belle Fields; brother and sister-in-law, Fredric and Irene Fields of Columbia; and brother, Michael Fields, of Syracuse, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan B. Komen Foundation or the Tree of Life Congregation.

Vardell Sanders

ROCK HILL — Services for Vardell Knox Sanders, 85, are 3 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Holly United Methodist Church with burial in Laurelwood Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. Born in Chester to James and Alice Wise Knox, she died Jan. 6, 2005. Surviving: children, James Sr., Harris Jr. Sanders, Anne Glidewell; brother, Robert Knox; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Ollie Mae Moree

LANCASTER — Services for Ollie Mae Jeanell Moree, 79, are 2 p.m. Sunday at Son Light Community Church of the Nazarene with burial in Blackmon Cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Mahaffey Funeral Home. Born in Chesterfield Co., she died Jan. 7, 2005. Surviving are husband, Arthur Moree; children, David, Roger, Danny Moree, Linda Baker, Sylvia McManus, April Pegram; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.

Ruth Richardson

GILBERT — Memorial services for Ruth Leona Morris Richardson, 84, of Gilbert, SC, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Martins Episcopal Church, 1510 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204. Memorials may be made to St. Martins Episcopal Church, Portsbridge Hospice, 108 W. Hospital Dr, West Columbia, SC 29169 or First Calvary Baptist Church, Food Pantry, 2320 Cedar Grove Rd, Leesville, SC 29070. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-9 p.m. at the home of Patricia Fulmer, 349 Adams Lane, Gilbert, SC. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Richardson, widow of Charles Earnest “Red” Richardson, Sr., died Thursday, January 6, 2005. Born in Concord, NC, she was the daughter of the late Bessie Jane Burris and Ralph Leroy Morris. Formerly of Charlotte, NC, she had been a local resident here since 2004. Mrs. Richardson was a retired interior designer of Dorsey’s.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Ernest, Jr. and Mabel Richardson of Iron Station, NC, James Michael and Penny Richardson of Charlotte, NC; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Jane and Monroe Fulmer of Gilbert, SC, Mary Ruth and John Evans of Mathews, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Clyde L. and Gin Morris of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Brenda Morris of North Carolina; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, William L. Morris.

Charlotte Lamoy

CAMDEN — Graveside services for Charlotte Perry Lamoy, 83, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2005 at Quaker Cemetery. The Revs. Thomas Smith and Steve Gaines will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 9, 2005, from 4-6 p.m. at the residence, 2024 Jefferson Davis Hwy (#1).

Mrs. Lamoy died Friday, January 7, 2005. Born in Miami Springs, FL, she was a daughter of the late Steve and Willie Watkins Perry. She previously was an active member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church, a hospital volunteer, and a member of the Fine Arts Center.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Karen Lamoy of Camden, SC; daughter, Claudia L. Morse of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Robert Morse, III, Terri Stack, Tracey Lamoy, Russell P. Lamoy; 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Gregory S. Morse.
