SUMMERTON — Services for Thurman Deel Jr., 70, veteran, retired from Chrysler Corp., widower of Gladys Dye Deel, are at Honaker Funeral Home, Honaker, VA. SALUDA — Services with burial for Alice Ruth McCollum Jones, 68, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at New Salem CME Church. Butler && Sons Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Clinton, NC to Wright and Hattie Bell Wilson Wright, she died Oct. 28, 2004. Surviving are husband, Ernest; children, Julius Jr., Eddie, Alice Loftin, Valleria Holton; stepdaughter, Earnestine Jones; grandchildren; great-grandchildren.

Herman Kosic

CRANBURY, N.J. — Herman F. Kosic, 88, WWII veteran, widower of Catherine Shelola Kosic, died Oct. 28, 2004. Entombment is 11 a.m. Thursday at Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Columbia, SC. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he retired from Arthur G. McKee & Co. Surviving: children, Dianne Nunes, Donna Adwalpalker, William, Kenneth Kosic; sisters, Rose Leithner, Johanna Hinkle; grandchildren.

Lenson Mangum

PAGELAND — Services for Lenson R. Mangum, 84, owner/operator of Mangum Produce, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Zion UMC. Visitation is 7-8:30 tonight at Sutton Funeral Home. Born in Pageland to D.W. and Ella Mills Mangum, he died Oct. 30, 2004. Surviving are wife, Gladys; children, Jerry, Jimmy, Joey, Jack, Johnny, Janet Mangum; sisters, Jessie Pigg, Margie Vick; grandchildren; great-grandchildren.

Alma McCrary

TRAVELERS REST — Services for Alma B. McCrary, 82, WWII veteran, widow of Roland McCrary Sr., 1 p.m. Tuesday (visitation 7-8:30 p.m. Monday): The Howze Mortuary; burial: Grand View Memorial Gardens. Born in Travelers Rest to W. Tave & Lillie Brookshire Batson, she died Oct. 29, 2004. Surviving: children, Mary, Roland Jr., David; grands, Rawlin, David Jr., Kristen McCrary, Leigh Santanello; siblings.

Gilbert Meitzner

WEST COLUMBIA — Gilbert “Gib” Charles Meitzner, 72, died October 29, 2004. Born in Jefferson, Wis., he was a son of Emil and Gertrude Ruethe Meitzner, an Army Korean veteran and retired from Georgia-Pacific. Surviving are his wife, Cyrilla Renz Meitzner; sons, Bradley, Thomas; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 2 stepgrandchildren.

Ethel Metz

WHITE ROCK — Services for Ethel Folk Metz, 93, were held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel, was in charge. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church Building Fund and Lutheran Hospice.

Mrs. Metz, widow of Eugene Metz, died Thursday, October 28, 2004. Born in Irmo, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Cora Bouknight Folk. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her sons, Fred (Jackie) Metz of Lexington, Ray (Judy) Metz and Kent (Georgia) Metz of Irmo; daughter, Betty (Ross) Owen of Columbia; brothers Royal Folk of Chapin, Johnny and Billy Folk of Irmo; sister, Dulieth Harman of Lexington; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Frank, Everette and Charles Folk; sisters, Daisey Roberts and Alma Bouknight.

Collin Powell

HARTSVILLE — Funeral services for Collin William Powell, 28, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 31, 2004 at St. Luke United Methodist Church. The Revs. Ben and Dora Gafford will officiate with burial at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 1, 2004 in Wood Memorial Park Cemetery, Greer, SC, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 31, 2004 following the service. Memorials are preferred in lieu of Flowers to St. Luke United Methodist Church Youth Ministry Program, 302 Dunlap Drive, Hartsville, SC 29550.

Collin died Friday, October 29, 2004. Born in Nashville, TN, he was a son of Russell F. and Connie Coker Powell. He was a graduate of Clemson University with a degree in Forestry and Business. Collin was employed with Duncan Boat Harbor in Charleston, SC and was an avid outdoorsman from the mountains to the salt water. Collin was a tissue and eye donor. This donation has the potential to positively affect as many as seventy-two people. His joy was in making other people happy.

Surviving are his father and mother of Hartsville, SC; brother, Chad R. Powell of Lyman, SC; paternal grandparents, Claude F. and Bettie Duncan Powell of Lyman, SC; maternal grandparents, Ted William and Genelle McBee Coker of Boiling Springs, SC.

John Robbins

COLUMBIA — Services for John A. Robbins, security guard, retired from S.C. Hwy. Dept., son of John and Edna Robbins, 3 p.m. today at Greater Columbia Funeral Service; burial: McCollom Cemetery. Surviving are wife, Anna Mae; children, John Jr., Robin Robbins, Izell, Kelvin, Deloris Alford; siblings, Hattie Washington , Rever Raysor, Freddie, Willie, James, Nathaniel Robbins; grandchildren; great-grandchildren.

William Sorrells

BENNETTSVILLE — Services for William Arvid “Bill” Sorrells, 65, veteran, retired from Heileg-Meyers Furniture Co., Mason, will be held at 3 p.m. today (2 p.m. visitation) at Whitner-Evans Funeral Home. Born in Elberton, GA to Roy and Margie Allgood Sorrells, he died Oct. 29, 2004. Surviving are wife, Vivian Crawford Sorrells; son, Bill; brother, Jim; grandchildren, Hayden Sorrells, Matthew Clark.

Lorane Strawhorn

GREENWOOD — Services for Lorane Nixon Strawhorn, reg. nurse, 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church; burial: Oakbrook Memorial Park; visitation 7-9 tonight: Harley Funeral Home. Born in Fort Payne, AL to Oscar and Elizabeth Manord Casey, she died Oct. 30, 2004. Surviving: husband, James; children, Danny, Rita Nixon; stepchildren, Jason, David, Nancy, Julie; brothers, Roman, Wayne, R.J. Casey.

Ila Walker

GREENWOOD — Services for Ila Moore Walker, 80, retired from Park Seed Co., widow of J. Hugh Walker, 2 p.m. today at Troy UMC; burial: Troy Cemetery. Blyth Funeral Home is in charge. Born in McCormick Co. to James and Emma Langley Moore, she died Oct. 29, 2004. Surviving: children, Curtis Walker, Anne Riddlehoover, Kathy White; grandchildren; great-grands; sister, Josephine Young.

Willie Young

CLINTON — Services with burial for Willie Edd Young, 59, will be held at 1 p.m. at Duncan Creek Baptist Church. Goins Funeral Home is in charge. He died October 26, 2004. He was a member of Duncan Creek Baptist Church and Union #1 Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Lula Bell Young; sons, James Humphrey, Tyrone Copeland; siblings, John, Martin, Mason, Thelma, Laura Ann; one grandchild.

C. Kitt Kaiser

BLYTHEWOOD — Funeral service, with full military honors, for Charles “Kitt” Kaiser, 53, of Blythewood, will be held 3 o’clock, Monday, November 1, 2004 at Fairlawn United Methodist Church, conducted by Reverend Paul M. Cheezem and Reverend L. Carroll Pope, Jr. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be John Fogle, Ronnie McLean, Kevin Thurmond, Glen Mosser, Jr., George Camp, and Johnny Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the McEntire Air National Guard Motor Pool. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:30 Sunday evening at Shives Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Fair Lawn UMC, 9203 Wilson Blvd., Columbia, SC 29203 or Reformation Lutheran Church, 1118 Union St., Columbia, SC 29201.

Mr. Kaiser died Saturday, October 30, 2004. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late C. Roof and Martha Mae Dinkins Kaiser. After graduation from Eau Claire High School, he joined the SC Air National Guard where he remained active until his death. He attained the rank of Chief Master Sgt. and was a veteran of Desert Storm. Mr. Kaiser was a member of North Richland Optimist Club, Fair Lawn United Methodist Church, and worked with the Salkehatchie Project. He and his family were members of Reformation Lutheran church for many years. Mr. Kaiser owned and operated Kaiser Services, LLC.

Survivors include his wife, Sug Kaiser; daughter Kelli Kaiser and fiance, Jamey Broach; son, Kory Kaiser, all of Blythewood; daughter, Kristi K (Matthew) Summers of Branchville, SC; grandchildren, Kaleb and Kolton Kaiser; brother, Carl (Gwen) Kaiser of Blythewood; three nieces and nephews. A grandchild, Kendall Ray, and his beloved dog, Rascal, preceded him in death.

Dr. Carrie Canty

SUMTER — Services for the Rev. Dr. Carrie Rebecca Canty are 11 a.m. (viewing 10 a.m.) Monday at Canty Memorial C.O.G.I.C. with burial in Hillside Memorial Park. Job's Mortuary is in charge. Born in Sumter Co. to Bishop Clifford and Marie Canty, she died Oct. 23, 2004. Surviving are sisters, Emma Jones, Maeola Martin, Ruth Laws; 2 adopted daughters; 1 adopted sister; 2 aunts; 4 nieces; 5 nephews; others.

John Jeffcoat

BARNWELL — Services for John J. Jeffcoat, 77, will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, November 1, 2004 at the Folk Funeral Home Chapel in Williston with burial in the Williston Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Jeffcoat died Friday. Born in Barnwell County, he was a son of the late Johnny Jeffcoat and Marie Gleaton Jeffcoat Simmons. He was a member of the Barnwell First Baptist Church, a farmer, and supervisor for Jowers Logging Company in Blackville.

Survivors include his wife, Lottie Bell Kennedy Jeffcoat; daughters, Barbara Gale Kinard and Laura Chavis; sisters, Mary Ann Philips and Mozelle Dale; brothers, James Albert, Cecil, Mace, Roudolf, Edward and Willie Jeffcoat, Joe L., Lewis Jr., Ernest and Roy Simmons; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, John Robert Jeffcoat, sister, Jenny Jenkins, brothers, Lawton Jeffcoat and Howard Simmons.

Willie Mickle Jr.

ESTILL — Services and burial for Willie Hubert Mickle Jr., 53, are 1 p.m. today at Furman New Church of Christ, Furman. Garvin-Garvin Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Furman to Hubert Sr. and Willie Mae Mickle, he died Oct. 26, 2004. Surviving: wife, Betty Mickle; children, Teshia Frazier, Ticara Mickle, Eza Hopkins, Travis Reed; mother; two grandmothers; one sister; two brothers; four grands; others.

Barbara Osborne

SALTERS — Barbara Timmons Osborne, 69, wife of Harry J. Osborne, Sr., died Friday, October 29, 2004 in a Florence hospital.

Mrs. Osborne was born September 27, 1935 in Salters, a daughter of Helen Scott Timmons and Julius A. Timmons, Sr. She was a graduate of Greeleyville High School where she was captain of the girls basketball team. Mrs. Osborne was the retired owner of Greeleyville Auto and Upholstery Shop. She was a member of Greeleyville United Methodist Church and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Mrs. Osborne loved the beach.

Surviving are: her husband of Salters; two sons: Harry (Chuck) Osborne Jr. of Jacksonville, FL and Chris G. Osborne and his wife Rosie of Salters; her sister, Mrs. Willis Galliher and her husband Jack of Fernandina Beach, FL; her brother, Julius A. Timmons, Jr. and his wife Betty of Salters; 5 grandchildren: Brandie (Nick) Hayes of Florence, Barbara (Dustin) Osborne of Jacksonville, FL, Kristin Osborne of Florence, Chris and Leslie Albrektson of Jacksonville, FL; 2 great-grandchildren: Mason Cummins of Seattle WA and Rileagh Richards of Jacksonville, FL.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2 PM at Williamsburg Funeral Home with burial at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday evening at the funeral home from 6 to 8.

The family suggests memorials to Greeleyville United Methodist Church.
