Mary Cogdill

WEST COLUMBIA — Graveside services for Mary Elizabeth Williams Cogdill, 86, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2005, at Woodridge Memorial Park. Officiating will be Dr. Ed Carney. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carolina Community Hospice, 3096 Sunset Blvd., Columbia, SC 29169, Christ United Methodist Church, 410 N. Holden Rd., Greensboro, NC 27410 or Riverland Hills Baptist Church, 500 St. Andrews Rd., Columbia, SC 29223.

Mrs. Cogdill died Friday, January 21, 2005, in Agape Senior Community Center. She was the daughter of the late Herman and Jennie Freeman Williams. She was a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of seventy years, Lloyd Cogdill; son and daughter-in-law, William Cogdill Jr. (Kathy) of Lexington; daughter and son-in-law, Sherrell Ferrell (Rick) of Greensboro, NC; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

A special thank you to Brighton Gardens in Greensboro, NC, and Agape Senior Community Center in West Columbia. Heart felt gratitude to Carolina Community Hospice.

Ryan Fagan Jr.

GASTON — Graveside services for Ryan Dennis Fagan, Jr., born January 20, 2005, died January 20, 2005, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 23, 2005, at Woodridge Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

He is survived by his parents, Ryan Dennis Fagan and Bonnie Renee Epting; sister, Adrianna Denise Fagan; maternal grandparents, Bobby and Anne Epting of Lexington; paternal grandparents, Charles and Tina Fagan of Cayce; great-grandparents, Betty Fagan, Johnny Beall and Celia Epting.

Travis Boan

BISHOPVILLE — Services for Travis E. Boan, 60, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Norton Funeral Home, Bishopville. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. Surviving are his wife, Ann Rhodes Boan; daughters, Marsha Wyatt, Libby and Barbara Boan; siblings, Miriam Hinkle, Martha McCall, Jimmy Boan; two grandchildren.

Howard Adams Sr.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A graveside service for Howard W. Adams Sr., 77, widower of Phyllis Adams, is 2 p.m. Sunday in Sumter Cemetery with full military honors, directed by Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home, both in Sumter, S.C. Born in Smyrna Township, Ind., to Harry and Bertha Adams, he died Jan. 17, 2005. Surviving: wife, Patricia; sons, Rev. Howard, David, Dennis Adams; stepson, Terry Roth; grandchildren.

Cilla Bates

SWANSEA — Services for Cilla Mae Wannamaker Bates, 84, of 810 Huckabee Mill Road, Swansea, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 23, 2005, at Mt. Moriah AME Church, Highway 176, Swansea, South Carolina, with burial in Mt. Moriah AME Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at A.P. Williams Funeral Home, Columbia.

Mrs. Bates, born in Calhoun County to the late Clara Jones Wannamaker and the late Bouregard Wannamaker, died Monday, January 17, 2005, in Providence Hospital, Columbia. She Served as Class Leader, Treasure of Church School; Member of the Gospel Choir; Member of Stewardess Board #2; Member of Missionary Society and Women Home Christian Union; Employed for many years of Crystal Linen Service.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home and other times at 810 Huckabee Road, Swansea, SC.

Surviving are her son, William E. Bates Sr.; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; Sister in Laws; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her spouse, Jimmie Lee Bates.

Mary Brown

BISHOPVILLE — Mary Brown, 83, widow of Thornton Brown, died Thursday, January 20, 2005, in McCoy Memorial Nursing Center.

Born in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Horace Pickney Dority and the late Mary Atkinson Dority.

She was a member of the Ashwood Nazarene Church.

Survivors include three grandsons, Richard Elmore of Bishopville, Woody Elmore of Sumter, and Hank Elmore of Summerville; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lillian B. Elmore and a son-in-law, Henry A. Elmore.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home with Rev. T.W. Mitchell and Rev. Nathaniel Brown officiating.

Burial will be in the Ashwood Nazarene Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home and other times at 1152 Jamestown Road, Bishopville.

Memorials may be made to the Ashwood Nazarene Church, 2145 Green Lane, Bishopville, SC 29010.

Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Bethune, S.C., to Leroy Blackwell and Johnnie Mae Hornsby, he died Jan. 16, 2005. Surviving: wife, Gladys; stepson, Johnathan Watkins; daughter, Daphne Demetruodis; mother, stepfather, Albert; 1 grandchild.

Ira Corley Sr.

ANDERSON — Services with burial for Ira Dell “Sug” Corley Sr., 70, 3 p.m. (viewing 2 p.m.) Sunday at Wateree AME Church, directed by Butler and Sons Funeral Home, both in Saluda. Born in Edgefield to Dave and Georgia Smith Corley, he died Jan. 19, 2005. Surviving: wife, Annie Golston Corley; children, Dalegata, Darren, Ricky, Khalil, Ira Jr., Loretta, Sandra, Marilyn, Carrilyn; 5 siblings; 19 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.

Ernest Cook

PAMPLICO — Services with burial for Ernest Lee Cook, 57, retired truck driver, will be held at 4 p.m. today at Friendfield Pentecostal Holiness Church. Brockington Funeral Home, Lake City, is in charge. Born in Florence Co. to Roland Cook and Linnie Mae Horne. he died January 20, 2005. Surviving: wife, Ollie Matthews Cook; father; sons, Ernest Jr. and Stacey Cook; seven grandchildren.

H.A. Covington

LANCASTER — Herbert Allen “H.A.” Covington, 71, U.S. Navy veteran, died January 21, 2005. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel. Inurnment will be private. He was born in North Augusta to Allen and Adel Jones Covington. Surviving: wife, Amelia D’Amico Covington; children, Michael, Frank, Herbert Covington, Michele Bartholic; three sisters; seven grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.

Fred Ashley

YORK — Services with burial for Fred R. Ashley, 79, are 3 p.m. Sunday at Philadelphia UMC. Visitation is 4-6 tonight at Bratton Funeral Home. Born in York to Fred and Annie B. Ashley, he died Jan. 21, 2005. Surviving: wife, Jean S. Ashley; children, Susie Elkins, Steve Ashley; siblings, Hazel Camp, Edna Bratton, Betty Beck, Nell Bigger, Dot Jackson, Bunny Whitesides, Margie Hope, Butch Ashley; 4 grandchildren.

Olin Ellis

HEATH SPRINGS — A Celebration of Live Service for Olin Manley “Tot” Ellis, 85, will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Rich Hill Baptist Church, burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at Hartley Funeral Home, Lancaster. Born in Lancaster Co. to Boyce and Tina Small Ellis, he died Jan. 20, 2005. Surviving: wife, Ida Marshall Ellis; children, Marshall, James, Sharon Ellis, Glenda Phillips; two grandchildren.

Mamie Fletcher

CHERAW — Services for Mamie Pegues Fletcher, 85, are 1 p.m. today at Pee Dee Union Baptist Church with burial following in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Morris Funeral Cottage is in charge. Mrs. Fletcher died January 16, 2005 in Cheraw Healthcare. Survivors include a daughter; grandson; great-grandchildren; a brother and a sister.
