Virginia Robinson Hobby Teal

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Virginia Robinson Hobby Teal, 79, passed away on April 17, 2005, in Chattanooga, TN. She was the oldest daughter of the late Columbus and Claudia Robinson of South Carolina. She taught in public and private schools for 38 years in South Carolina and Georgia. She loved her family, children and the churches she attended. She was known for her sweet smile and giving nature. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Teal of Chesterfield, S.C.; stepdad, Touney Coker of Turbeville, S.C.; sister, Pearl Cosby Ruby of MI; brother, Stanley Coker of Turbeville, S.C.; niece and nephew Lyn and Tommy Robinson of Turbeville, S.C.

Survivors include her siblings, J. C. (Grace) Robinson of Charleston, S.C., Sanford (Carolyn) Robinson of Turbeville, S.C., Cornelia (Dennis) Williams of Louisville, KY, Erby Davis Coker of Turbeville, S.C.; daughters, Catherine Hobby of Sumter, S.C., Barbara (Ronnie) Williams of Hixson, TN ; three granddaughters, Lyn Robertson of Nashville, TN, Shannon Perkins and Alyson Williams of Hixson, TN; four great-grandsons; nieces and nephews from Robinson, Coker and Teal families whom she loved dearly; three sister-in-laws, Ella Teal, Tempie Bell Teal and Ethel Teal of Cheriaw, S.C.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday in Horse Branch Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Turbeville, S.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tri-county Hospice or Clarendon County Hospice in South Carolina. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday at Floyd Funeral Home in Olanta, S.C.

Mary Moon Rawlinson

WEST COLUMBIA — Memorial services for Mary Moon Rawlinson, 94, of West Columbia, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2005 at the Boyce Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Columbia. The service will be officiated by Rev. Dennis Banks. The family will receive friends following the service.

Mrs. Rawlinson, widow of Alfred Rawlinson, died Monday, April 18, 2005. Born in Greer, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Walter and Nancy Taylor Moon. Mrs. Rawlinson attended the University of South Carolina and Chicago Musical College. She joined the First Baptist Church in 1926, where she was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class, the Olive Lawton Bible Study Class, and OASIS. She had been on the Board of Directors for the Y.W.C.A. and The Family Services Center, and was a past President of the Women’s Auxiliary at U.S.C. Mrs. Rawlinson belonged to, and served as President of, the Gardenia Garden Club, the Thursday Book Club, and served as a Girl Scout Leader for many years. She was a genealogist and served as Secretary of the Wesley Perry Taylor Reunion for over 50 years. Mrs. Rawlinson edited three books on the Taylor family of Greenville County. She loved working in and sharing her beautiful garden with friends and family.

Surviving are her daughters, Helen Ann Rawlinson of West Columbia, Nancy Rawlinson Schoer of Aiken; her grandsons, Joshua Schoer and Benjamin Schoer. Memorials may be made to the Richland County Public Library or to the Thomas Cooper Library at U.S.C. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family.

Mr. Walter Edward Dailey, Jr.
Born in Bennettsville on Dec. 6, 1948
Departed on May 4, 2004 and resided in Florence, SC.
Service: Friday May 7, 2004
Cemetery: Florence National Cemetery

A graveside service for Mr. Walter "Bogie" Edward Dailey, Jr., 55, be at 2:00 Friday afternoon, May 7, 2004, in Florence National Cemetery. Brother Frank Sedgewick will conduct the service. The family is being assisted by Cain Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mr. Dailey died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, in Florence. He was born December 6, 1948, in Bennettsville to the late Walter E. and Darkis Ford Dailey, Sr. He was also predeceased by sister, Sandra Lundy.

He was a US Army veteran and worked as a mechanical contractor with Bryce Construction Company for 30 years.

Among his survivors are; brothers, Steve ("Sissy") Dailey of Hemingway and Joe M. (Teresa) Dailey of Waynesville, MO, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lillie Mae Best
Born in Warren County, NC on Jul. 25, 1921
Departed on Oct. 24, 2004 and resided in Florence, SC.
Visitation: Tuesday Oct. 26, 2004
Service: Tuesday Oct. 26, 2004
Cemetery: Florence Memorial Gardens

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Mae Best, widow of I.G. Best, will be at 3:00, Tuesday afternoon, October 26, 2004, in Florence Memorial Gardens. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Jerry Pickens. Family members will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:00-2:30, at Cain Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 950 48th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.

Mrs. Best, 83, of Florence, died Sunday, October 24, 2004, in a Myrtle Beach nursing facility. She was born July 25, 1921, in Warren County, NC, to the late Lewis Palmer and Lillie Lancaster Shearin.

She was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Among her survivors are; son, Arthur G. Best, of Florence; daughters, Susan Dailey of Florence and Shirley Pendergrass of Murrells Inlet; grandchildren, Elizabeth Carol O'Dell of Charleston, David Pendergrass, Jill Landford, and William Dailey, all of Murrell's Inlet and 4 great-grandchildren.

Mackie Vice

ALVIN — Services with burial for Deacon Mackie Vice will be 1 p.m. today at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Scott’s Mortuary, Moncks Corner, is in charge. Surviving: wife, Christine H. Vice; children, Jabu Diallo (RuthAnn Butler), Ginetta Hamilton, Sheriff Haqq (Roscoe Vice), Edmund and Lorenzo Vice, Rudelle Houseworth, Amy DeLyons; siblings, Joseph, Jessie, Frank Vice, MaeBelle Lampkin.

John P. Abney

LEESVILLE — Services for John Pope Abney, 53, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home Chapel, Lexington. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to National Wild Turkey Federation, PO Box 530, Edgefield, SC 29824.

Mr. Abney died Tuesday, April 19, 2005. Born July 6, 1951, in Greenwood, S.C., he was the son of the late John Sidney and Olivia Powell Abney. Mr. Abney was employed by C.B. Richard Ellis. He was a member of the Greater Columbia Association of Realtor’s Commercial Alliance, Lifetime member of Columbia Circle of Excellence, member of the Midlands Striper Club, Ducks Unlimited, and the National Wild Turkey Federation.

He is survived by his wife, Kim Hagen Abney of Leesville; daughter, Miriam Abney of Charleston; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Joseph (Jennie) of Columbia, Jason Joseph (Stephanie) of Simpsonville; grandchildren, Nicholas, Samantha and Andrew Bodnar, Matthew Joseph, Wells Smith, Noah and Ryan Joseph; half brother, Jack Abney of Greenville.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Susie Bess Abney.

Robert Reynolds

COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Robert Manning Reynolds, 88, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Kilbourne Park Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to Kilbourne Park Baptist Church, St. Andrews Baptist Church, or The Residents Assistance Fund at the S.C. Episcopal Home at Still Hopes, P.O. Box 2959, West Columbia, S.C. 29171.

Mr. Reynolds, husband of the late Sarah Massey Reynolds, died Tuesday, April 19, 2005. Born on March 1, 1917, in Lamar, S.C., he was the son of the late David Claude and Rena Harrison Reynolds.

He was a graduate of Clemson University in 1938, and was a member of the Pershing Rifles. An Army veteran of WW II, he retired as a Lt. Col. in the Reserves in the Adjutant General Branch. Having taught vocational agriculture education in Clio, Lower Marlboro, and Florence High Schools, he worked for the Farm Security Administration, and retired from the Veteran Administration in 1975. While working for the V.A., he was a training specialist and worked in the loan service and claims section in the loan guaranty division.

He was a longtime member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church and the Tom Lanham Sunday School Class, a former deacon, church clerk, and president of the JOY Group. He was also a member of the Columbia Kiwanis Club and the Golden K.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Marie and George Meeks of Columbia; a sister, Frances Benson of Reidsville, N.C.; grandsons and their wives, Bobby and Kathleen Meeks of New Castle, Pa., and Mark and Jill Meeks of Santiago, Chile; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Matthew, Hannah, Nathan, and Christopher; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Eugene Reynolds.

The family would like to thank the Still Hopes community of caregivers and especially “his girls,” who took such good care of him while he was a resident. We would also like to thank Marvin Taylor for his years of personal ministry and commitment to him.

Sidelle Riggs

MANNING — Services for Sidelle Elizabeth Poston Riggs, 77, 3 p.m. Thursday: Manning UMC. Visitation 6-8 tonight: Stephens Funeral Home. Born in Kingstree to Larry J. Poston and Pearl Baker Poston Stewart, she died April 19, 2005. Surviving: husband, Russell Sr.; children, Russell Jr., Harold Riggs, Kathy Ward; siblings, Bobby, Grady Stewart, Rev. Samuel Poston, Janie McKnight, Gloria Bridges; others.

Dr. Allen Stokes

COLUMBIA — Services for Dr. Allen Stokes, 77, will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at The Episcopal Church of St. Simon and St. Jude. The family suggests that memorials be made to The Episcopal Church of St. Simon and St. Jude, 1110 Kinley Road, Irmo, S.C. 29063, or to the Endowment Fund of the Symphony League, c/o South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra, 1237 Gadsden Street, Columbia, S.C. 29201. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, is assisting the family.

Dr. Stokes died Monday, April 18, 2005, in Lexington Extended Care after a lengthy illness. Born in Tupelo, Miss., he was the son of the late Dewey Allen and Gurney Wade Stokes. He graduated from Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. Dr. Stokes received his Master’s Degree from the University of North Carolina and his Ph.D in history from the University of Texas . He held administrative and teaching positions in Tennessee, Alabama, Virginia and Michigan before coming to South Carolina. Before his extended illness, Dr. Stokes was active in his church, The Lion’s Club where he was particularly involved in the cornea implant program, The Exchange Club, and Gideon’s International.

Surviving are his wife, Jeannine Greiner Stokes; daughter, Gretchen Stokes Wall; and granddaughter, Sarah Wall-Curry.

Elise Peeples

BARNWELL — Services for Elise Newton Peeples, daughter of the late James and Louise Newton, widow of James E. Peeples, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul Baptist Church, Snelling. Visitation is 7-8 tonight at Lebby Funeral Home. She died April 16, 2005. Surviving are four children, Sylvia Harris, Kathy Adams, Ben Peeples and Ogretta Peeples; two sisters; one brother; four grandchildren; other relatives.

Ricky Bright

COLUMBIA — The graveside service for Ricky Dion Bright of Columbia is 3 p.m. Thursday in Serenity Memorial Gardens. Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Columbia, a son of Alma and Percy Jones, he died April 18, 2005. Surviving are his parents, Alma and Percy Jones; siblings, Kimberly Williams, Percy Jr., Doris, Stephanie and Jada Jones; grandparents, Benjamin and Elizabeth Bright.

Grace Phillips

KERSHAW — Graveside services for Grace Broughton Phillips, 83, will be held at 3 p.m. from Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, Westville, S.C., Wednesday, April 20, 2005. The Revs. Stacey Hinson and Steve Miller will officiate.

Mrs. Phillips died Tuesday, April 19, 2005. Born in Kershaw, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Charlotte Workman Broughton. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and retired from Springs Industries. She was first married to the late John Edward Hunter and second to the late Thomas Franklin Phillips.

Surviving are 2 stepsons, Tommy R. Phillips and his wife, Lib, of Camden, S.C., Roger Dale Phillips of Kershaw; stepdaughter, Gloria Campbell of Monroe, N.C.; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Gerald Hunter.

Memorials may be made to Homecare and Hospice of Lancaster, 920 West Meeting St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Baker Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Phillips.
