LEROY W. BACOTE
PATERSON, N.J. - Funeral services for Leroy Wallace Bacote, formerly of Darlington County, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2002, in the Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel with burial following in Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mr. Bacote died Sunday, May 12, in a New Jersey hospital after an illness. He was born in Darlington, a son of Vivian Bacote Johnson and the late C. Roy Evans. He was educated in the public schools of Darlington County. He was partially raised by his grandparents, Al J. and Iola Bacote of Darlington. Mr. Bacote moved to Paterson and worked with Filmco Industries as a supervisor in the shipping department. He was married to Eliza Hough Bacote and this union was blessed with one son.
Survivors are in addition to his wife, Eliza H. Bacote of the home, are his mother, Vivian Johnson of Charlotte, N.C.; one son, Bernard Bacote of Paterson, N.J.; two sisters, Barbara Davis of Darlington and Virginia Bacote of Corona, N.Y.; a brother, Ronnie Bacote of Darlington; two grandchildren, Jiavaria and Brandon Bernard Bacote.
MARTHA B. McIVER
DARLINGTON - Funeral services for Martha Burgess McIver were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, in Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. D. L. Hughes, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home.
Mrs. McIver died on Monday, May 13, in a Florence hospital after a long illness. She was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late George and Letha Burgess Burgess. She was the widow of Rufus McIver.
She received her education in the Williamsburg and Darlington Counties public schools. She was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she served on the Gospel Choir, Senior Missionary Society and Prayer Band and the Good Samaritan Club and any other capacity when needed. She was gainfully employed by the Rogers and Lewis families of Darlington.
Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy (Lonnie) Crews Jr., of Darlington; a brother, Jimmy (Elizabeth) Bristow of Syracuse, N.Y.; a foster brother, Freddie Gregg of Darlington; three grandsons which she helped rear, Brandon, Bryant and Byron Crews , all of Darlington; two special cousins, Evelyn Foster of Cades and Rosa Perteel of Brooklyn, N.Y.; nieces, nephews and her special children, the Rogers family.
J. D. KEITH
Graveside services for J. D. Keith, 84, were held on Saturday, May 18, 2002, at 12 noon at Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Anderson officiated.
Mr. Keith died Thursday, May 16. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Luther and Mamie Gilbert Keith. He was retired from Sonoco Products Co. after 50 years of service. He was a member of Kelleytown Baptist Church and the Old Timers Club.
Surviving are a son, Dr. J. Dalton Keith of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Mrs. Mazzalee Large of Hartsville; five children, Gregory, Araby, Alex, Robert and Scott Keith of Mt. Pleasant; two great-grandchildren, Dalton Keith and Jacob Amoms, both of Mt. Pleasant.
Mr. Keith was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Grace Campbell Keith and a son, Dr. Robert V. Keith.
MARGARET PINCKNEY
DARLINGTON - Funeral services for Margaret O'Neal Pinckney, 60, were held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2002, at New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Calvin Daniels and Bishop Charlie Johnson officiating. Burial was in New Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. Pinckney died Monday, May 13, at her residence after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of Callie Williams O'Neal and the late Earl O'Neal Sr. She was educated in the public schools of Darlington County, was a 1961 graduate of Mayo High School in Darlington and was crowned Homecoming Queen that same year. She was a certified nursing assistant and licensed to teach reading literacy. She believed that education was one of the keys to a successful future. Mrs. Pinckney was a retired employee of Carolina Power and Light Co. in Florence and retired after 26 years of faithful service.
At an early age, she joined New Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church where she enjoyed the fellowship. She was a member of the Senior Choir and served until her health began to decline. She was joined in holy matrimony in 1962 to the late Marion Eugene Pinckney and this union was blessed with one son, Marion Pinckney Jr.
Surviving other than her mother, Callie Williams O'neal of Darlington, are a son, Marion (Carol) Pinckney Jr. of Darlington; three sisters, Katie O'Neal Grice of Columbus, Ohio, Catherine (Preston) Brown and Callie (James) Streater of Florence; two brothers, Joseph O'Neal of Darlington and Leslie (Laura) O'Neal of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
LEE SARVIS
McBEE - Funeral services for Boston Lee Sarvis, 67, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Chapel. The Rev. Larry Renfroe officiated with burial in Darlington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Sarvis died Friday, May 17. Born in Columbus County, N.C., he was a son of Louella Fowler Sarvis and the late Bostian Sarvis. He was a retired plumber and veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife, Jean Null Sarvis of McBee; sons and daughters-in-law, Monroe (Jeanie) Sartin of Squire, W.V., Billie and Brenda Blevins of Berwind, W.V., Bruce Blevins and Sue Kidwell of Yukon, W. V, Buford Blevins and Patti Ott of Mt. Holly, N.C.; daughters and son-in-law, Connie and Larry Renfroe of Atmore, Ala.; brothers, Bill Sarvis of Loris, Waylen Sarvis of Mocksville, N.C., Clifford Fowler of Loris, Howard Fipps of Blythewood; sisters, Betty Faye Helblig and Linda Kirk, both of Columbia, Doris Boatwright of Pelion, Cathy Nelson of Tallahassee, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
WILLIE J. STEPHENSON
LAMAR - Funeral services for Willie James Stephenson, 61, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, in The Church in the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. in Hartsville with Elder Joe C. Tisdale, officiating. Burial was in the church Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Stephenson died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late Johnnie and Marie B. Stephenson. He received his education in the public schools of Lee County and was employed with Defender Industries for many years. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Hickmon Stephenson of Lamar; three daughters, Betty Jean (Reggie) Kelly, Lola Mae Stephenson and Elaine Stephenson, all of Lamar; four sons, Willie (Theresa) Stephenson Jr., Mark Alexander (Michelle) Stephenson, Matthew Stephenson and Jason Stephenson, all of Lamar; six sisters, Thelma Prescott of Camden, Fronza (Truman) Pooler, Patsy Scott of Fayetteville, N.C., Blondell (James) Miller and Hattie Stephenson, both of Hartsville and Lillie Stephenson of Lamar; 10 children; four aunts, mother-in-law; nieces and nephews and other close relatives and friends.
JOHNNY MULDROW
Funeral services for Johnny Muldrow, 37, were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, in Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel with Bishop Bennie L. James officiating. Burial was in Pines Forest Memorial Cemetery in McBee, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Muldrow died Monday, May 13. He was born in Lee County, a son of Johnny Lee Muldrow and the late Betty Lou Blakeney Muldrow. He was partially raised by his aunt, Gerthena Wright of Hartsville. He attended The Church in the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. Mr. Muldrow was employed with Do Right Cleaners.
Surviving other than his father of McBee, are his step-mother, Lucille Muldrow of McBee; four sisters, Cheryl (Richard) Ratliff, Faye (Anthony) Heigler, both of Hartsville, Cora (Aubrey) McClain of Cooks Community and Darlene (Johnny) Richardson of McBee; a brother, Edward Walter Blakney; aunts, step-brothers, step-sisters, nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

INEZ STREETT
DARLINGTON - Funeral services for Inez Odom Streett, 78, were held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Temple Free Will Baptist Church. Interment followed in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Streett died Sunday, May 19, in a local hospital after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, the daughter of the late Raleigh and Corria King Odom. She was the wife of the late Lawrence Grayson Streett. Mrs. Streett was a member of Temple Free Will Baptist Church and a volunteer for the Darlington County Council on Aging.
Surviving are four sons, Lawrence Gene (Grace) Street, Raleigh Marshall "Buddy" Streett, Robert Allan (Faye) Streett, and Russell Wayne Streett, all of Darlington; a daughter, Darlene Streett Davis of Darlington; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Verlee Lambert, Eula Mae Streett, Louise Davis and Coria "Bunk" Odom; and a special friend, Sally Gardner.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Streett was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Odom and R.G. Odom; and a sister, Marlene Melton.
