James ‘Joe Bill’ Jennings

CONWAY — James “Joe Bill” Jennings, 92, of 1833 Raepass St., widower of Eunice Hill Jennings, passed away Jan. 18, 2001, at Conway Hospital.
Born in McCormick County, he was a son of the late Willie Jennings and Mary Mims Jennings Gilchrist. He was a former security guard in Myrtle Beach and a member of Zion Chapel AME Church, McCormick County.
Survivors include three sons, J.C. Jennings, Eddie Harrison and James Harrison, all of Greenwood; two daughters, Daisy Lee Quarles of Greenwood and Dorothy Evans of Honea Path; a stepdaughter, Rebecca of Conway; a brother, Robert Jennings of Richmond, Va.; 32 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and 62 great-great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Daisy Lee Quarles, 104 Harrison Alley, and a son, J.C. Jennings, No. 4, Woodson Alley, both in Greenwood.
Services will be announced by Robinson and Sons Mortuary Inc., Greenwood, which is in charge.

Rickey Norrell

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. — William Rickey Norrell, 51, passed away Jan. 15, 2001, at the VA Hospital in Decatur.
Born in Ware Shoals, S.C., he was a son of the late Clyde and Escon Davis Norrell. He was an Army veteran, serving with the 82nd Airborne Division, and a carpenter.
Survivors include a daughter, Amanda E. Corley of Covington; two sons, Richard Chad Hilyer of Cumming and Jason Norrell of Dawsonville; a brother, Carey Norrell of Santa Cruz, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Saturday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Greenwood, S.C.
Pallbearers are Chad Hilyer, Jason Norrell, Carey Norrell, Ryan Stephenson, Shane Corley and Carl Holden.
Visitation is in the chapel after the services.
Parker-White Funeral Home, Ware Shoals, is in charge.

Nessie Tee Wideman

GREENWOOD — Services for Nessie Tee Wideman, of 117 Benjamin Court, Philadelphia, and of 2312 Briarwood Road, Promised Land Community, will be at 3 Sunday at Mount Zion AME Church, conducted by the Rev. Roy Norman. The Rev. James Speed, pastor, will assist. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are cousins.
Honorary escorts are officers and members of the church.
Visitation is from 7-8 Saturday at Robinson and Son Mortuary.
The family is at the home of a nephew, Augustus White, 110 Whitehall Road, Greenwood.
Robinson and Son Mortuary Inc. is in charge.

Betty Jean Blair

PLUM BRANCH — Betty Jean Perrin Blair, 48, of P.O. Box 37, wife of Sullivan Blair, passed away Dec. 29, 2000.
A daughter of Doris Perrin, she attended McCormick public schools and Piedmont Technical College. She was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Thomasina Timpson of McCormick; a son, Brandrell Smith of McCormick; her mother of McCormick; seven sisters, Doris William of Waycross, Ga., Mary Wideman, Barbara Smith, Nerissa Perrin, Vanessa Dennis, Emma Timpson and Evelyn Timpson, all of McCormick; two brothers, Samuel Timpson of Bradley and Grady Perrin of McCormick.
Services will be at 2 Thursday at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, Parksville, conducted by the Rev. E.M. Gordon. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home of her mother, White Rock Church Road, McCormick.
McCormick Memorial Chapel is in charge.

Allen Collins

NINETY SIX — Allen Collins, 60, of 229 Little Mountain Road Extension, passed away Dec. 31, 2000, at his home.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Willie L. Sheppard Burton and the late Joe Collins. He attended Second Damascus Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother of Greenwood; four brothers, Larry Holmes, Ernest Barksdale and David Coats, all of Greenwood and Willie Henry Martin of Ninety Six; and four sisters, Betty L. Williams, Barbara Barksdale, Bessie Robinson and Rhonda Burton, all of Greenwood.
Services will be announced by Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Timothy Bruce Crawford

McCORMICK — Timothy Bruce Crawford, 40, of Route 3, Box 270, passed away Dec. 29, 2000.
A son of James “Butch” and Alice Crawford, he was a 1979 graduate of McCormick High School and a 16-year veteran of the Navy. He was an employee of Pirelli in Abbeville and a member of Hosannah Baptist Church and the Gospel Chorus of the church.
Survivors include his parents of McCormick; two sons, Timothy Bruce Crawford Jr. of the home; and Tray Crawford of Lincolnton, Ga.; a daughter, Chae Crawford of Richmond, Va.; a stepdaughter, Donnale Starling of Newport News, Va.; four sisters, Brenda Martin of Anderson, Jackie Crawford of Troy, Ruby C. Pratt and Anita Crawford, both of McCormick; and a brother, Al J. Crawford of McCormick.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Springfield AME Church, McCormick, conducted by the Rev. Willie Harmon. Burial will be in Hosannah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is at the home of his parents, White Rock Church Road, Highway 378 West, McCormick.
McCormick Memorial Chapel is in charge.

‘Buddy’ Dansby

ABBEVILLE — Paul “Buddy” Bonner Dansby Jr., 61, of 202 Dead End Road, husband of Betty Thompson Dansby, passed away Dec. 30, 2000, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of Willie Inez Brown and the late Paul Bonner Dansby Sr. He was a supervisor with Rocky River Mills, Mohawk Plant and a member of Westside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Abbeville; a daughter, Bonnie D. Poore of Abbeville; two sons, William Paul Dansby and Robert B. Dansby Sr., both of Abbeville; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Harris Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. James Long. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation is at the residence.
Memorials may be made to Westside Baptist Church, 306 Haigler St., Abbeville, S.C. 29620.

Olando Gaston

GREENWOOD — Olando Gaston, 56, of 115 Campbell St., passed away Dec. 30, 2000, at Self Memorial Hospital.
Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of Eva Mae Phillips Gaston and the late Frank Gaston Sr. He was a former employee of Greenwood Mills, Chalmers Plant, and a member of W.E. Parker High School, Class of 1965, Edgefield. He was a member of Lower Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Plum Branch.
Survivors include his mother of the home; two sons, Bryant Kelly of Washington , D.C., and Stacey U. Gaston of New York City; a daughter Sharon Kelly of Washington , D.C.; five brothers, Frank Gaston Jr., Albert Gaston, Edward Gaston and Walter Gaston, all of Greenwood and William Gaston of McCormick; six sisters, Robbie Mae Hill of Los Angeles, Wanda Jean Morton of McCormick, Dorothy Price of Hyattsville, Md., Elizabeth Carter and Gloria Gaston, both of Greenwood, and Clara Carter of Antelope, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be at 1 Wednesday at Lower Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Plum Branch, conducted by the Rev. Otis Cunningham. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at noon.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are nephews and nieces.
Visitation is Tuesday evening at the home.

Mary Gunter

WARE SHOALS — Mary Hendricks Gunter, 79, of 11237 Indian Mound Road, widow of Ernest Milford Gunter, passed away Dec. 31, 2000.
Born in Madison County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Comas and Maggie Carrington Hendricks. She was a member of Mount Gallagher Baptist Church and was owner and operator of Mary’s Beauty Shop.
Survivors include a sister, Ruby Allen of Ware Shoals.
Services will be at 3 Tuesday at Mount Gallagher Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Marcus Bishop. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 2.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Parker-White Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Wallace Hughes

HONEA PATH — Wallace Hughes, 69, of Highway 252, passed away Dec. 30, 2000.
Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Scott and Maude McGill Hughes. He was a former supervisor with Standard Plywood of Clinton and a member of Warrior Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include a brother, W.M. Hughes of Laurens; and five sisters, Frances Tumblin of Ware Shoals, Lydie Sims of Honea Path, Rosie Tumblin and Grace Crowe, both of Laurens and Marie Keel of Augusta.
Services will be at 2 Wednesday at Kennedy Mortuary, Laurens, conducted by the Rev. James E. Kelley. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation is from 7-8:30 Tuesday at the mortuary.

Oliver Pruitt

ABBEVILLE — Oliver Lindsey Pruitt, 91, widower of Eunice Boyd Pruitt, passed away Dec. 31, 2000, at the National Health Care Center in Anderson.
Born in Due West, he was a retired textile employee with Abbeville Mills and a member of Due West ARP Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Miriam Sanders of Abbeville; a sister, Mabel Senn of Princeton; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Harris Funeral Home, with burial in Due West ARP Church Cemetery.
Visitation is from 10-11 Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of his daughter, Miriam Sanders, 503 Winfield Drive, Anderson.
Memorials may be made to Due West ARP Church, 112 N. Main St., Due West, S.C. 29639.

Gussie Robinson

GREENWOOD — Gussie Robinson, formerly of Greenwood, passed away Jan. 1, 2001, at C.M. Tucker Nursing Home in Columbia.
The family is at the home of a niece, Carrie L. Eleam, 219 Taggart St., Greenwood.
Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home, which is in charge.

W. Earl Tinsley

LAURENS — William Earl Tinsley, 78 of 1488 Fleming Mill Road, husband of Beulah Hill Tinsley, passed away Dec. 30, 2000, at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Thomas and Pearl Culbertson Tinsley. He was reared in the home of an aunt, Ollie Culbertson Clem. He retired as a manager and golf professional with Lakeside County Club after 25 years of service. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and taught the Men’s Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, David Earl Tinsley of Headland, Ala., and William Dale Tinsley of Waterloo; a daughter, Dianne Tinsley of Laurens; eight grandchildren; and his aunt of Hodges.
Services will be at 2 Tuesday at Northside Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Joe Baldwin and the Rev. Shannon Long. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 12:30-2 Tuesday at the church.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to Northside Baptist Church, 818 Northside Church Road, Laurens, S.C. 29360 or to a charity of one’s choice.
