WARE SHOALS — Thelma Fisher Abrams, 87, widow of Preston C. Abrams, died Friday, May 10, 2002, at National Health Care in Greenwood.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Thursa Brock Fisher. She was a member of Mount Bethel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Preston L. Abrams of Greenwood and John F. Abrams of Honea Path; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are 3:30 p.m. today in Mount Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Carol Peppers-Wray.
Pallbearers are Rudolph Fisher, Alvin Elgin, Kennon Abrams, Charles Wood and Lewis Wood. Visitation is from 2-3 today at Parker-White Funeral Home.
Family members are at their respective homes.
Parker-White Funeral Home is in charge.

Rosalee Andrews
ATLANTA — Services for Rosalee Andrews, of 4025 Wisteria Lane S.W., are 1 p.m. today at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, conducted by Brother Hosea Burch. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Burial is in Kennedy Memorial Garden.
Survivors include four sons, Isaac D. Andrews of Maple Hill, N.C., James Andrews, Johnny Andrews and Charles Andrews, all of Atlanta; two daughters, Mattie Gresham of Atlanta and Linda Slocomb of Riverdale; three brothers, Dozie Adams of Anderson, S.C., Peter A. Adams and Ozie Adams, both of Greenwood, S.C.; four sisters, Dorothy Griffin of Ninety Six, S.C., Alice Cantrell of Augusta, Bessie Moore and Ramonia Witt, both of Greenwood; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Gus Thornhill’s Funeral Home Inc. is in charge.

David L. Bolton Sr.
BELTON — David Lynn Bolton Sr., 61, of 214 Glenwood St., husband of Mary Lou Spires Bolton, died Friday, May 10, 2002, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Dorothy Montjoy Bolton and the late Julian H. Bolton. He retired from BASF and was a member of Belton Presbyterian Church, the church choir and the Bolton Family Quartet.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter Julianna Galloway of Belton; two sons, David L. Bolton Jr. and William Casey Bolton, both of Belton; a sister, Linda Bolton Anderson of Greenwood; two brothers, Carroll “Buddy” Bolton and Bruce T. Bolton, both of Greenwood; and five grandchildren.
Services are at 3 Sunday at Belton Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Revs. Will Nickles, Jim Foil and John LeHeup. Burial is in the Garden of Memories.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Cox Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Daniel Blocker
GREENWOOD — Daniel Blocker died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Anne Maria Nursing Center in North Augusta.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Ed and Eliza Syrkett Blocker. He was a member of Old Mount Zion Baptist Church in Epworth and a Navy veteran, having served in the Vietnam War.
Survivors include two brothers, Jonas Blocker of Tallahassee, Fla. and Willie C. Blocker of Philadelphia and four sisters, Hazel Tyson of Washington D.C. and Georgiana Fortune, Elizell Blocker and Ebell Martin, all of Greenwood.
The family is at the home of a sister, Georgiana Fortune, 107 S. University St.
Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home, which is in charge.

Lt. Skyler T. Clinkscales
WAUKEGAN, Ill. — Skyler T. Clinkscales, 31, Lieutenant of the U.S. Navy, husband of Theresa D. Clinkscales, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Froedtert Medical College in Milwaukee.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of Samuel Clinkscales and Paretha Clinkscales. He was a former member of Long Cane A.M.E. Church, a graduate of Abbeville High School and a Magna Cum Laude of St. Leo University in Key West, Fla. with a B.A. Degree in Business Administration/Management. He was a member of the Navy where he held several offices, including operations specialist, ensign, surface warfare officer and lieutenant junior grade. He was promoted to lieutenant in September of 2001 and was currently stationed in the Great Lakes as a training program specialist.
Survivors include his wife of the home; mother of Abbeville; father and stepmother, Patricia Clinkscales of Greenwood; grandmother, Bridie Clinkscales of Abbeville; two brothers, Milton A. Marshall of Virginia Beach and Thomas Patterson of Greenville and three sisters, Letitia C. Davis of Pelzer and Bridget C. White and Linda Johnson, both of Abbeville.
Services are at 1 Monday at Long Cane A.M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. A.R. Kollock. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at noon.
Pallbearers are members of the Navy.
Flower bearers are members of the Class of 1989.
The family is at the home of his mother, 103 Bradley Ave.

Vertell Coates
GREENWOOD — Vertell Carter Coates, 67, of 230 E. Cambridge Ave. and National Health Care, widow of Willie “Blue Top” Coates, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Billy and Earline L. Carter. She worked in the dietary department of Woodfields Elementary School, Greenwood School District 50. She was a member of Old Mount Zion Baptist Church in Epworth, where she formerly served as a member of the choir, Church Missionary and YWA.
Survivors include a son, Anthony Coates of Greenwood; two sisters, Lila Mae Carter and Annie Mae Herbert, both of Ninety Six and three grandchildren.
The family is at the home of a son, Anthony Coates, 163 Cherokee Drive, Spring Valley Subdivision.
Services will be announced by Robinson and Son Mortuary Inc., which is in charge.

Vertell Coates
GREENWOOD — Services for Vertell Carter Coates, of 230 E. Cambridge Ave., are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Old Mount Zion Baptist Church, Epworth, conducted by the Rev. Clyde Cannon. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Rodney Holloway, Herbert Foster Jr., Ulysses Dunlap, Bennie Holloway, Larry Rice and Gerald Coates.
Flower bearers are Marilyn Grier, Shelia Harrison and Denise Carroll and nieces.
Visitation is 6 p.m. tonight at home of a son, Anthony Coates, 163 Cherokee Drive, Spring Valley Subdivision.
Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc. is in charge.

Nancy D’Andrea
BRADLEY — Nancy Gutierrez D’Andrea, 76, of 3812 Rock House Road, widow of Michael G. D’Andrea, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at her home.
Born in New York City, she was a daughter of the late Robert Gutierrez and Angela Bonanno Gutierrez Slackman. She retired from McGraw Edison, Greenwood Plant, and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Survivors include a son, Michael D’Andrea of Columbia; two daughters, Angela Lovell of Greenwood and Rose D. Berry of Ninety Six; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by Father Richard Harris and Dr. J. William Harris. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Roger “Dean” Berry Jr., Arthur “A.J.” Lovell Jr., Michael Lovell, James “Ron” Wood, Nicholas Ferrera, Vernon “Randy” Berry, Charles Wells and Carrol “Buster” Wells.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Clara D. Dukes
SALUDA — Clara Dozier Dukes, 98, widow of Henry O. Dukes, died Thursday, May 9, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Saluda, she was a daughter of the late Squire and Clara Dozier. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Matthew Dukes of Columbia, Eddie C. Dukes of Saluda, Johnnie L. Dukes of Capitol Heights, Md., and Thomas Dukes of Charlotte, N.C.; three daughters, Clara E. Miles of New Jersey, Mary Dukes of Charlotte and Annie Pearl Coleman of Capitol Heights.
Services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Clarence Kenner, pastor.

W. Rodney Knight
LAURENS — William Rodney Knight, 44, of 1998 Boyds Mill Pond Road, husband of Connie Baynes Knight, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Laurens, he was a son of William H. “Billy” Knight and Lanell Smallwood Brown. He was a truck driver with Quality Haulers and a member of Eastside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his father and mother, both of Laurens; a son, Lance Knight of Gray Court; a daughter, Valerie Knight of the home; three brothers, Henry Knight of Laurens, Jeff Brown of Simpsonville and Scott Knight of Gray Court; and a sister, Vickie Knight Rogers of Taylors.
Graveside services are 5 p.m. Wednesday in Forest Lawn Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. J.D. Putman Jr.
Visitation is from 3-4:30 Wednesday at Kennedy Mortuary.

GREENWOOD — Caroline Moss, formerly of 235 Reynolds Ave., died Monday, May 13, 2002, at National Health Care.

Annie Sue Pearson
WARE SHOALS — Annie Sue Pearson, 71, widow of John L. Pearson, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
A native of Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Lila Phillips Crompton. She was a member of Church of God of Prophecy, Williamston.
Survivors include three sons, Ricky Pearson and Donald Pearson, both of Ware Shoals and Marshall Pearson of Williamston; a sister, Betty Roberts of Williamston; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Garden of Memories, Honea Path, conducted by the Rev. Otis Davenport.
Pallbearers are Ray Smith, Jack Smith, Bill Smith, Kim Roberts, Tim Roberts and Bill Rodriguez. Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Parker-White Funeral Home.
The family is at 52 Circle St.

John Sayles
GREENWOOD — John Sayles, 51, of 405 Fortune St., husband of Eddie Mae Childs Sayles, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late P.C. and Alzee Blocker Sayles. He was a former employee of Greenwood Mills and a member of Old Mount Zion Baptist Church, Epworth.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, John Robert Sayles Jr. of Columbia and Michael Tyrone Sayles of Greenwood; a daughter, Tanya Sayles of Greenwood; a brother, Willie “Springbrook” Blocker of Epworth; two sisters, Ella Roundtree and Patricia Lindsey, both of Greenwood; and 12 grandchildren, four reared in the home, Quincy Tennant, Akeem Sayles, Jaquarius Sayles and Jontavious Sayles.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

Heyward Thompson
GREENWOOD — Heyward Earl Thompson, 82, of 705 Old Brickyard Road, widower of Marie Riggs Thompson, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
Services will be announced by Blyth Funeral Home.

James Johnson Sr.
CALHOUN FALLS — Mr. James Larry Johnson, Sr., age 56 of 626 Anderson St. Calhoun Falls died Saturday May 11, 2002 at Elberton Memorial Hospital in Elberton, Georgia.
Mr. Johnson was born in Calhoun Falls to J.W. and Sybil Moss Johnson. He was a retired Supervisor/Overseer of the weave room for Burlington where he worked for 22 years and was a member of the Calhoun Falls Pentecostal Holiness Church.
In addition to his parents Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Faye Smith of Calhoun Falls; son & daughter-in-law, James Larry “Skunk”, Jr. and Amy Johnson of Abbeville; daughters & sons-in-law, Chari J. & Steve Ridgeway of Calhoun Falls and Audrey J. & Brian Todd of Abbeville; brothers, Mikey Johnson of Calhoun Falls and Ricky Johnson of Abbeville; 7 grandchildren: Shannon Ridgeway, Stephen Ridgeway, Meaghan Wideman, Andrew Todd, Ryan Todd, Jacob Johnson, and Carrie Crittendon.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday at the Calhoun Falls Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Thomas Batts, Rev. Virgil Manning, and Rev. Michael Ford officiating.
Pallbearers will be Billy Kimsey, Jim Powell, Carroll Ashley, Lander Sorrow, Benjie Sorrow, and Phillip Boyles. Interment will be in the Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Abbeville.
The family will receive friends Monday, May 13, 2002 from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
The family will be at the home, 626 Anderson St. Calhoun Falls.
Calhoun Falls Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
