PLUM BRANCH — Services for Raymond Durant Sr. are 2 p.m. Thursday at Tranquil A.M.E. Church, Troy, conducted by the Rev. Derrick Scott, pastor, and Elder G.T. Devlin and the Rev. Carrie Samuels. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are grandsons, and flower bearers are granddaughters.
The family is at the home of a Mrs. Henry Jennings, Highway 283 East, Plum Branch.
Walker Funeral Home, McCormick, is in charge.

Mattie Nelson
ABBEVILLE — Mattie Poole Nelson, 92, of Abbeville Arms Apartments, widow of Lloyd Nelson, died Monday, May 20, 2002, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry L. Nelson of Abbeville, Thomas Hall of Winter Park, Fla., and Jack Hall of Lake Orion, Mich.; a sister, Ann Mitchell of Abbeville; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. today in Melrose Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. George Long.
Pallbearers are Bill Ashcraft, Bobby Fisher, Harold Purdy, Maxie Campbell, Thomas Nelson and George Brock.
Visitation is after the service.
Family members are at their respective homes.

Motte Nickles
HODGES - Martha Anderson "Motte" Nickles, 70, resident of 4311 Main Street, wife of W.A. "Al" Nickles, Jr., died May 19, 2002 at National Health Care in Greenwood.
Born in Greenwood County, March 13, 1932, she was a daughter of the late L.C. and Edith Smith Anderson. She was retired from the US Postal Service.
She was a member of Hodges Presbyterian Church.
Surviving in addition to the husband of the home are a son, Al Nickles, III and a daughter, Susan J. "Susie" Nickles, both of Columbia; one sister, Betty A. Zouras of Greenwood; a brother, Col. James C. "Jack" Anderson of Peoria, AZ; three grandchildren, Walker Nickles, Matthew Nickles and Kylie Nickles, all of Columbia.
Mrs. Nickles was pre-deceased by two sons, Sam Nickles and Andy Nickles.
Funeral services will be conducted 5PM Thursday at Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Piephoff officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Tommy O'Dell, Robert Nickles, Andrew Nickles, Ronnie Hannah, Keith Hodges and William Nickles.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 5 Thursday afternoon.
Memorials may be made to Hodges Presbyterian Church, PO Box 99, Hodges, SC 29653.

Mike Argo Sr.
BATESBURG — Michael “Mike” Murdock Argo Sr., 65, of 432A Crout Road, formerly of Abbeville, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at his home.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late Thomas Belton and Edna Ruth Clark Argo. He formerly owned Greenville Street Grocery in Anderson. He was a former employee of Prudential Insurance Co., had been associated with the Graniteville Co. in Greenville and worked with Security at Amick Farms. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Kim Howell of Anderson and Christy Jordal of Piedmont; a son, Michael “Mike” Murdock Argo Jr. of Anderson and a grandson.
Services are at 4 Sunday at Harris Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Evans. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation is from 3-4 Sunday at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Preston (Kim) Howell, 2018 Quail Ridge Road, Anderson.

Wiley Begley
GREENWOOD — Wiley M. Begley, 88, of 2522 Montague Ave., widower of Helen Crawford Begley, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Hayden, Ky., he was a son of the late Hiram T. and Emily Messer Begley. A 1952 graduate of Nashville Auto and Diesel Institute, he owned and operated Center Gulf Service Station. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Medical-Surgical Corps in New Guinea and Australia. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenwood.
Survivors include two sons, Tom Begley of Simpsonville and Jerry Begley of Greenwood and five grandchildren.
Graveside services are 3:30 Sunday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by Dr. John Livingston.
Visitation is from 2-3 Sunday at Blyth Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Hillery L. Callaham
PLUM BRANCH — Services for Hillery L. Callaham are 3 p.m. Sunday at New Hope Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. J.C. Williams, pastor. The body will be placed in the church at 2. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Grandsons are pallbearers, and church ushers are flower bearers.
The family is at the home on White Towne Road.

Margaret L. Ellerbe
GREENWOOD - Margaret Grace Lloyd Ellerbe, 83, of 501 North Street, widow of Alexander Russell Ellerbe, died Friday, May 24, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Orangeburg on October 15, 1918, she was a daughter of the late George Arthur and Rhoda Alice Watson Lloyd. She was raised in Anderson and graduated from Anderson Girls High School. She attended Anderson College and Queens College and was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.
She was preceded in death by a son, Russell Lloyd Ellerbe.
Surviving are a son, Robert Lloyd "Bobby" Ellerbe Sr. of Greenwood; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Lloyd Ellerbe "Peggy" and Gene Edwin Stroud of Greenwood; grandchildren, Robert Lloyd "Bert" Ellerbe Jr. and Tammy Sprouse Ellerbe of the home, Russell Johnson Ellerbe and Crista Ellerbe of Charleston, Raymond Theron "Tray" Sivell III, Andrew Gabriel "Drew" Sivell and Hannah Grace Stroud, all of Greenwood; and great grandchildren, Ryan Hart Ellerbe of Greenwood, Cameron Alexander Ellerbe of Charleston and Amanda Lynne Calliham of the home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Edgewood Cemetery with the Rev. Peter Hawes officiating.
The family is at the home.
It is respectfully requested that flowers be omitted and memorials made to The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, PO Box 3283, Greenwood, SC 29648 or to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.

McCORMICK — Services for Eloise Callaham Searles, of 206 Cochran Loop, are 1 p.m. Sunday at Hosannah Baptist Church, conducted by Pastor Charles Agnew, assisted by the Rev. Grady Zellars. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers are family friends.
The family is at the home in Savannah Lakes.

Arnold Stone
WARE SHOALS — James Arnold Stone, 69, of 7 Higgins Drive, husband of Barbara Nickles Stone, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at his home.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late James E. and Annie Lee Arnold Stone. He retired from the Ware Shoals Post Office and was a Navy Korean War veteran. He was a member of Ware Shoals United Methodist Church and the VFW.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two son, James Arnold “Jim” Stone Jr. of Lake City, Utah and Thomas Nickles “Tom” Stone of Ware Shoals; a daughter, Nena Catherine “Cathy” Elledge of Irmo; three sisters, Evelyn Golden, Hazel Ridgeway and Bobbie Woods, all of Ware Shoals; two grandsons and a great-grandson.
Services are 2:30 Sunday at Ware Shoals United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Gayle Summey. Burial is in Mount Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Kent Burdette, Dr. Darby Pendergrass, Hobart Gowan, Danny Summey, Nicholas Elledge, Jamie Stone, Larry Woods, Lowndes Pendergrass, Charlie Stone and D.K. Lee Jr.

Willie Mae Tompkins
PLUM BRANCH — Willie Mae Tompkins, 48, widow of Floyd E. Tompkins Sr., died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in McCormick, she was a daughter of the late Calvin and Louise Price Dorn. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where she served with the Usher Board, Missionary Society and Wise Committee and was vice president of the Youth Department and president of the Union Third Division Missionary. She was also a member of the Palmetto Leadership Conference and the Summer Enhancement Program Committee.
Survivors include a daughter, LaKesha Tompkins of the home; a son, Floyd Tompkins Jr. of the home; a granddaughter; three sister, Carolyn Francisco of Washington , D.C., Betty Price of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Darlene Price of Chicago; and a brother, Otis Price of Washington , D.C. The family is at the home on Highway 283, Plum Branch.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, McCormick.

Diane Weeks
GREENWOOD - Rebecca Diane Weeks, 53, of 105 Oakdale Drive, died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of Ralph A. Weeks, Sr. and Monteze Spence Weeks. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and Charzanne Beauty College and was the former owner of Classic Hair Styles, located in the K-Mart Plaza Shopping Center. She was a member of Tranquil United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her parents of Greenwood; her companion, Mack Attaway of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Billy Dunn of Greenwood; a brother, Chuck Weeks of Greenville; a niece, Kelsey Dunn and a nephew, Spence Dunn, both of Greenwood.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Tranquil United Methodist Church with the Rev. Karen Radcliffe and the Rev. Jim Patterson officiating. A private family burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Brent Rowland, Bayne Rowland, Richard Butler, Curtis Burnett, Frank Weeks and Mike Weeks.
The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The family is at the home of her parents, 711 Burnett Road.

GREENWOOD — Bobbie Jean Jones McClain, 62, of 141 Lawton St., died Friday, May 24, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Eastman, Ga., she was a daughter of Mrs. Willie Clyde Jones and the late Woodrow Wilson Jones. She was a member of the South Main Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother of the home; two daughters, Melissa McClain of Waterloo and Lynn M. Boyter of Greenwood; a brother, Wilson Jones of Greenwood and a grandson.
Services are at 4 Tuesday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. David Patterson, the Rev. Ryan Eklund and the Rev. A.B. Parsons. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home.

William H. Parker
McCORMICK — William H. “Will” Parker, widower of Fannie Searles Parker, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at McCormick Health Care Center.
He was the son of the late James and Lizzie Ferguson Parker. He was a member of Springfield A.M.E. Church, where he was a choir leader. He was also a member of Bethany Masonic Lodge 415.
Survivors include a son, Willie (Ruby) Parker; a daughter, Marion (Samuel) Gary; a foster son, Antonio Starks; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and three foster grandchildren.
Services are at 2 Friday at Springfield A.M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. Reagan and the Rev. Valerie Parker Gilchrist. Burial is in the church cemetery.
