WARE SHOALS — Polly Rush McClung, 95, of Due West Retirement Center, formerly of 141 S. Greenwood Ave., died Sunday, July 21, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Spartanburg County, she was a daughter of the late Ida Roberts and George Dexter Rush Sr. She had taught first grade in Ware Shoals District 51 and was owner and operator of “Miss Polly’s Kindergarten.” She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
She was the last member of her immediate family.
Services are at 2 Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Wicker. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are James Everette Jones, John Dexter Jones, George Dexter Rush III, George Earl Jones, Charles Edward Schuster, Robert Andrew Jones and David Harold Mann.
Honorary escorts are members of the Sunday School Class, members of The Session, The First Presbyterian Church and former first grade and kindergarten students.
Visitation is from 1-2 Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church.
The family is at the home.
Memorials may be made to The First Presbyterian Church or Thornwell Home for Children, Clinton, SC.

GREENWOOD — Services for Pauline W. Norman, of 1313 Drew Ave. are at 12 Tuesday at Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. James E. Speed. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 11.
Pallbearers are Robert Derrick Tompkins, Roosevelt Oliphant, Alvin Baylor, Harold Curenton, Donnell Leak and Earl Curenton.
Flower bearers are ushers.

Louise P. Holliday
ARLINGTON, Va. — Louise Price Holliday died Friday, July 19, 2002.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Edward Holliday of Charlotte, N.C., and George Donald Holliday of Paris, France and Washington , D.C.; a daughter, Mary Helen Seal of Falls Church, Va.; a sister, Gladys P. Townsend of Greenwood, S.C.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Thursday, Aug. 8, from 7-9 at Murphy Falls Church Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad St., Falls Church.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 at Arlington National Cemetery, with assembly at the Administration Building at 1:30.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Livy Moore
McCORMICK — Livy Alton Moore, 90, of 704 Chestnut Ridge Road, husband of Vera Blanchette Moore, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at his home.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late William A. and Mamie Jones Moore. He retired as sheriff of McCormick County, formerly served as Chief of Police in McCormick and was a policeman in Calhoun Falls, serving in law enforcement for more than 28 years. He was a member of McCormick United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Fred Brooks Men’s Club of the church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Shelby Jean Moore of Columbia; a son, Terry Alton Moore of Columbia; and two grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at McCormick United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Don Clendaniel and Pastor Mary Rowell. The body will be placed in the church at 10. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Abbeville.
Pallbearers are Don Wilson, Tommy Minor, Jimmy Smith, Charles Shealy, Timmy Bladon, Gary Dorn, Tommy McGrath, Jimmy Wall, Kenny Bladon and Jennings McAbee.
Honorary escorts are members of the Fred Brook’s Men’s Club of the church.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at Harris Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

GREENWOOD — Services for Haskell “Footsie” Townsend are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, Laurens, conducted by the Rev. Jeffery Meadowcroft.
Townsend, 75, died Friday, July 12, 2002, at Edgefield County Hospital.

ABBEVILLE — Services for Louise Coleman, of 400 Ferry St., are 11 a.m. Saturday at Brown and Walker Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Carnell Floyd. Burial is in Mount Olive Church Cemetery.

Leonard Lee Bratcher
ANDERSON — Leonard Lee Bratcher, 77, of 2605 Whitehall Ave., died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at his home.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Amos and Lucia Cooley Bratcher. He was a retired salesman, a World War II Air Force veteran and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Phillip Lee Bratcher of Greenville.
Memorial services are 4 p.m. today at McDougald Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Phil Bratcher and Dr. Ray Grant.
Visitation is from 3-4 at the funeral home.

Celie Mae Burretto
GREENWOOD — Celie Mae Burretto, 55, of 1548 Parkway Drive, Pine Ridge Apartments, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Spartanburg County, she was a daughter of Florence Griffin Burretto and the late Frank Elmer Burretto. She was a volunteer at Magnolia Manor and a retired employee of Rose’s Department Store. She was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church and the Golden Age Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her mother; a sister, Marie Burretto of Greenwood; and three brothers, Donnie Burretto of Charleston, Frank Burretto of Florida and Paul Burretto of Williamston.
Services are 4 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. James Boling and the Rev. Randy Ouzts. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Ray Witt, John Witt, Bobby Sprouse, Nick Curtis, Gordon Mayfield, Roger Stephens, Larry Summey and Billy Allen.
Visitation is from 2-4 Sunday at the church.
The family is at the home of her mother, Florence Burretto, 1548 Parkway Drive, B-3 Pine Ridge Apartments.

Reccie S. Callahan
BRADLEY — Reccie Simmons Callahan, 94, of 4102 Cedar Springs Road, widow of James A. Callahan, died Friday, July 26, 2002, at her home.
Born in Lincoln County, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Phillip and Nora Lane Simmons. She was a member of Tranquil A.M.E. Church, the Women Home Aide Society No. 1 and Bethany Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two daughters, Doris Talbert of the home and Ella Ware of McCormick; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Walker Funeral Home, McCormick.

Henry Lee Griffin Jr.
GREENWOOD — Services for Henry Lee Griffin Jr. are 2 p.m. Sunday at Marshall Chapel Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Carl Wells. Assisting are the Revs. Roosevelt Brooks, William Moton and Doris Brooks and Ministers Carolyn Phelps and Ancquand Glenn. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Willie James Harris, James Williams, Michael Martin, Jackie Massey, Colb Henderson and Johnnie Mattison.
Flower bearers are Brenda Williams, Debie Watson, Emma Greene, Deborah Allen, Jane Wells and Michelle Allen.
Honorary escorts are the deacons and deaconesses of the church.
Visitation is at the home of a son, James Griffin, 100 Tiffany Court, Abbeville, off Flatwood Road.
Viewing is from 1-9 today at Parks Funeral Home.

Mattie Sinclair
GREENWOOD — Mattie Lue Matthews Sinclair, 86, of 216 Evergreen Drive, widow of Perry N. Sinclair, died Friday, July 26, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greensboro, Ga., she was a daughter of the late J.R. and Varor McCullough Matthews. Formerly of Chester, she had lived in Greenwood since October 2000 and was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, West Congregation.
Survivors include two daughters, Jill S. Tarleton of Greenwood and Gail Sinclair of the home; two sisters, Barbara M. Allen of Sumter and Janie Mae Cannon of Greensboro.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. Monday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 611 New Market St., conducted by J.B. Harper.
Private burial is Monday in Evergreen Cemetery, Chester.
Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the home in Belle Meade.

Leroy E. Brown
GREENWOOD - Leroy Edward Brown, 78, of 137 North Cedar Drive, husband of Delores (Dee) Schertz Brown, died Sunday, July 28, 2002 at the VA Medical Center, Augusta, GA.
Born in Denton County, TX, he was the son of the late Roy Lee and Sophronia Rutherford Brown. He was graduated from Texas A&M University in 1948 and in 1989, he retired from Moore Business Systems after working 17 years in the Denton, TX office and 24 years as plant controller of the Greenwood office.
Leroy was a World War II Merchant Marine veteran, serving in Southeast Asia and the Pacific region. After the war and graduation from college, he was very active in civic affairs. Before transferring to the Moore plant in Greenwood in 1965, he served on the Sanger, TX city council, was active in the Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge and the Chamber of Commerce. He continued his civic work after moving to Greenwood, serving as an officer and on various committees in the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Rehabilitation Workshop, YMCA, Industrial Management Club, Heart Fund, Piedmont Tec Industrial Management Advisory Committee, United Way, American Red Cross, Lander College Board of Visitors and Greenwood Metropolitan Commission. For 20 years, he served as county chairman of the USO.
He was a member of the Greenwood Church of Christ. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Greenwood Country Club until his health deteriorated in 1999.
Surviving is his wife of 54 years; a son, Rick Edward Brown of Duluth, GA; a daughter, Brenna Brown Hall of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Jennifer Leigh Hall, Stacey Elizabeth Hall, Darren Edward Brown and Ryan Douglas Brown.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ in Sanger, TX. Burial will be in Sanger Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Southeastern Children's Home, 115 Children's Way, PO Box 339, Duncan, SC 29334 or the charity of one's choice.

J.A. ‘Buddy’ Gilliam
ABBEVILLE — James Andrew “Buddy” Gilliam, 79, of 1797 Highway 72 West, widower of Gwynne Llewis-Williams Gilliam, died Monday, July 29, 2002, at his home.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of he late Oscar Mott and Margaret McKenzie Gilliam. He was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, a retired engineer with Seaboard Coastline Railroad and a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Railroad Corps. He was a member of the American Legion and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
Survivors include a son, Michael James Gilliam of Abbeville; two sisters, Margaret Copeland of Abbeville and Juanita Skinner of Florence; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are 4 p.m. Wednesday at Harris Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Todd Davis. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation is from 3-4 Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Isiah E. Hurley
GREENWOOD — Isiah E. Hurley, infant son of Latisha Hurley of 110 N. Hospital St., died Friday, July 26, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his mother; two brothers, Dequintie Hurley and Dassawan Hurley, and a sister, Twquisha Hurley, all of Greenwood; and grandparents, Eugene Griffin of Greenwood and Elaine Hurley of Greenwood.
