Lou Milling
Lou Ashley Milling, 90, of 211 Georgia Ave., widow of Hugh David Milling, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Julia Wilson Ashley. She was a graduate of Honea Path High School and the Greenville General Hospital School of Nursing. She formerly worked at the Old Greenwood Hospital and retired as associate director of nursing at Self Memorial Hospital. She was a plant nurse for Westinghouse, a member of First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and the Clifford Barrett Sunday School class.
Survivors include two sons, Hugh Ashley Milling and James David Milling, both of Greenwood; and two sisters, Eleanor A. Devore of Honea Path and Mildred A. Webb of Easley.
Graveside services are at 11 Saturday at First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Fred Smith.
Visitation will follow the services.
The family is at the home of Ashley and Roe Milling, 212 Georgia Ave.
Memorials may be made to First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 2107 Mt. Moriah Road, Greenwood, S.C., 29646 or to the charity of one’s choice.

Paul Minor
Paul Gary Minor, 47, of 712 Olde Puckett Ferry Road, husband of Pam Wesson Minor, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Myrtle Agnes Minor and the late Wallace Lee Minor. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and Lander University. He was a team leader with Fuji Photo Film Inc., and a member of P.M.B. Hunt Club and the Fuji Golf Team.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Greenwood; two sons, Jeffrey Paul Minor and Bradley William Minor, both of Greenwood; a sister, the Rev. Gayle Summey of Ware Shoals; a brother, Glenn Darrell Minor of Knoxville, Tenn., and a grandchild.
Services are at 11 Saturday at Main Street United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Louie Murray and Gayle Summey and by Kevin Wilson. Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Ron Hatfield, George Harris, Jimmy Burns, Ricky Miles, Glen Langrehr and Jim Johnson.
Honorary escort is Dr. Jeffrey Lanford.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Calhoun B. Perryman
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Calhoun Bouchillon Perryman, 64, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, in Jacksonville.
A native of Greenwood County, S.C., he was a retired payroll supervisor for Pantry Pride.
Survivors include a brother, George Perryman of Spring Hill, Tenn.; a step-son, Scott Alguire of Winchester, Ky.; and two step-granddaughters.
Graveside services are at 3 Sunday at Gilgal Baptist Church Cemetery in Edgefield, S.C., conducted by the Rev. Lowell Clark.
Visitation is following the services at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Gilgal Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Sam Morgan, 41 Morgan Bussey Road, Edgefield, S.C., 29824.

Annie Mae Rapley
Services for Annie Mae Bowman Rapley of 1122 Rock House Road, are at 2 Saturday at Springfield Baptist Church in Edgefield County, conducted by the Rev. Nathaniel Landford, assisted by the Rev. W.H. McCain, pastor. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Pallbearers are Johnny Frank Sprowl Jr., Floyd White, Kendrick Allen, Herbert Rapley Jr., Webster Ross and Harold Williams.
Flower bearers are Gussie Washington , Faye Brown, Mary Ruth Rapley, Karen Rapley, Ida Gilliam, Tammy Allen, Kisha Allen, Jacquetta Wideman and Lily B. Bowman.
Honorary escorts are Matthews Plant Employees, members of the Women’s Aide Society No. 89, the Harmony Chapter Order of Eastern Stars No. 282 and the Deacons and Trustees of the church.
Visitation is tonight from 6-7:30 p.m. at Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of a daughter, Annette Mars, 1391 Florida Ave., McClinton Drive.

Peter A. Adams
Peter Anderson “P.A.” Adams, 76, of 101 Stonehaven Drive, Apt. 6, Raintree Apartments, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004 at his home.
The family is at the home of a sister, Remonia Adams Witt, 104 Bintage Road, Raintree Subdivision.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

Karen Sue Blinderman
Karen Sue Blinderman, 45, of 337 N. Emerald Road, 113, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Asheville, N.C., after a brief illness.
A native of Miami, she was a daughter of Cyril and Alice Blinderman. She was reared in Asheville, graduated from Warren Wilson College and taught in Greenwood County, S.C., schools for the past 18 years. She also participated in and taught clogging.
Survivors include her parents of Asheville and a sister, Lori Anne Blinderman of Fletcher, N.C. Memorial services will be at a later date.

Bessie Brock
HONEA PATH — Bessie Louise Edwards Brock, 63, of 3640 Keowee Rd., wife of Robert Brock, died Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of Essie Louise Campbell Edwards of Belton and the late Herbert Franklin Edwards, Sr. She was a homemaker and was a member of Keowee Baptist Church. She was a member of the Eunice Ricketts Sunday School Class and the W.M.U. of the church.
Surviving are her husband of the home; her mother of Belton; one daughter, Gloria Brock of the home; four brothers, Franklin Edwards, Jr., Donnie C. Edwards, Walter Richard Edwards, and Gerald Ray Edwards, all of Belton. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and those she held close to her heart, Jessica Atkins Dunn, Buffy Clary, Jonathan Atkins, Jennifer Fleming, Scott Whitfield, and Heidi Campbell.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday at Keowee Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Mize, Rev. Ralph Carter, and Dr. Mitch Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The body is at Pruitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7-9:00 P.M.
Thursday. The body will be placed in the church at 1:00 P.M. Friday. The family is at the home.

Henrietta H. Butler
DECATUR, Ga. — Henrietta Harris Butler, 55, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004 in Duluth, Ga.
Formerly of Ninety Six, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Lizzie Harris. She was a graduate of the Edgewood School Class of 1966.
Survivors include three daughters, Alexa Rhea Butler of the home, Andre Renee Butler of Duluth and Mrs. Bruce (Andrianna Raquel) McDonald of Ellicott City, Md.; two brothers, Wilbert Harris of Ninety Six, Daniel Harris of Decatur; four sisters, Betty Jean Williams of Silverstreet, S.C., Rosalee Dobbs of Norristown, Pa., Juanita Downings of Winnsboro, S.C., and Elaine Sharpe of Decatur; and three grandchildren.
Donald Trimble Mortuary, Decatur, is in charge.

Frances Cardwell
COLUMBIA — Services for Frances Livingston Cardwell, 92, will be held at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Friday, January 9, 2004 at 2:30 o’clock p.m., with burial to follow at First Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 7-8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Miss Cardwell died Tuesday, January 6, 2004 in Lexington at the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Josephine Randolph Withers and Edward Sinton Cardwell. She was graduated from Columbia High School and from the University of South Carolina, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1933, and a Master of Arts degree in 1937. From 1947 to 1949, she pursued Graduate Studies at the University of North Carolina.
Miss Cardwell taught at Dentsville High School from 1933-1934, at Logan School from 1934-1936, and later at Southern Seminary in Buena Vista, Virginia. She became professor of English at Columbia College in 1939, remaining there until 1951, when she became a Field Secretary for the University of South Carolina. During the summers of 1933 until 1966, she was Head Counselor and Program Director at Rockbrook Camp and Bearwalla Camp, both located in the North Carolina mountains. In 1953, she joined the faculty of Erskine College as Dean of Women and as Assistant Professor of English. After twenty-four rewarding years at Erskine College, she retired to Columbia.
Miss Cardwell was a member of numerous organizations including Delta Delta Delta Sorority, the South Carolina Association of Women Deans and Counselors, Alpha Kappa Gamma Leadership Society and the American Association of University Women. Formerly a member of First Presbyterian Church, she later joined Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Columbia, serving as a deacon, circle chairman, Sunday School teacher, and a volunteer in the Church office.
Miss Cardwell was the recipient of many honors during her lifetime, including the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award at the University of South Carolina and the Mary Mildred Sullivan Award at Erskine College. The Frances Livingston Cardwell Distinguished Alumni Lecture was established in1983 in her honor. In 1990, Erskine College awarded her the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. She was a woman of extraordinary character who had great impact on the lives of many.
Miss Cardwell was predeceased by her three brothers, Edward Sinton Cardwell, Jr., M.D., Joseph Randolph Cardwell and David Withers Cardwell. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Francese Cardwell Newcomer, Katherine Cardwell Meares, Martha Cardwell Sparrow, David Withers Cardwell, Jr., Frances Livingston Cardwell and Edward Sinton Cardwell, Jr., as well as numerous great nieces and great nephews.
The family wishes to express its gratitude for the loving care Miss Cardwell received at the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina, and Hospice Care of Tri-County.

Luther ‘Blackie’ Jones
EVANSTON, Ill. —Luther “Blackie” Jones, of 1748 Gray St., died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004 at an Evanston hospital after a brief illness.
Born in McCormick, S.C., he was a son of the late Willie “Jank” and Gertrude Wilson Jones.
Survivors include a daughter, Theresa Polly of McCormick; a granddaughter; five brothers, James Willie Jones and Bobby Jones of Chicago, Howard Jones of Rochester, N.Y., Jasper Jones and Nathan Jones of McCormick; three sisters, Pearlie Mae McDuffie of Atlanta, Ruth Brown of Greenwood, S.C., and Claudia Jones of McCormick.
Services are in Evanston.

Gertrude Petty
EDGEFIELD — Gertrude Petty, 81, of Manor House of Edgefield, widow of Joseph Petty, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc., Greenwood.

Monette E. Redslob
GREENWOOD — Monette E. Redslob, 84, of Wesley Commons, Greenwood, SC died Tuesday night, December 23, 2003 at Self Memorial Hospital, Greenwood, SC.
She was born April 11, 1919 in Strasbourg, France, the daughter of Dr. Jean Louis E. Eissen and Noelle (Alazard) Eissen. She and her family immigrated to the US, by way of French Morocco in 1946, on fleeing the Nazi invasion of France.
She retired as Creator/Director Learning Resources, Aiken Technical College, Aiken, SC, after having created the Middle Management Library for Hershey Foods Corporation after receiving her BA in Sociology-Anthropology from Elizabethtown College, PA and her MALS from the University of Michigan.
She is survived by four sons: James A. Redslob of Syracuse, IN; J. Frederic Redslob of Dillsburg, PA; Charles A. Redslob of Aliquippa, PA, and Jack Red of San Bruno, CA; six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
When she lived in Harrisburg, PA, she served as Past President of Study Club, and Friends of Fort Hunter. She volunteered for the Cancer Society, and Central Dauphin Parent Teacher Assns. In Columbia, SC and Chapin, SC, she was Past President of Pilots Club International, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Chapin Public Library, and Materials Aid for Refugees. She was active in American Society of Friends, Chapin Methodist Church and the Chapin Garden Club. Always an avid reader, she also took up water color art at age 81.
A celebration/memorial service will be held January 10, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. in the Wesley Commons Chapel, Greenwood, SC. Memorials may be made to any of her favorite causes: Chapin Public Library, Habitat for Humanity, or Greenwood Hospice.

Herbert Turner
Herbert Olin Turner, 76, of 218 Ashcroft Drive, husband of Mamie Lee Horne Turner, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004 at the home of his daughter.
Born in Edgefield, he was a son of the late Charles Luther and Annie Maybel Riley Turner. He was a trucker driver for 53 years and retired from J.B. Hunt Trucking Co. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Gloria T. Herlong of Greenwood; three sons, Donnie L. Turner of the home, Herbert O. “Junior” Turner Jr. of Greenwood and J. Robert Turner of Ninety Six; a brother, Wedeman Turner of Whitmire; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Tom Cartledge.
Visitation is 5-7 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of Mike and Gloria Herlong, 106-D Windtree Court.
Memorials may be made to the Herbert O. Turner Fund, P.O. Box 6, Greenwood, SC 29648.
