Joel Miller Scott
ELBERTON, GA. — Joel Miller Scott, 69, of 2087 Lincolnton Hwy. In Elberton, died Saturday, April 24, 2004 at Athens Regional Hospital after a sudden illness.
A native of Elbert County, he was the son of the late Carl A. and Birdie Lee Childs Scott.
He was a member of the Woodlawn United Methodist Church, a life-long farmer, a past employee of the Granite City Bank, and a retiree of the Elbert County Sheriff’s Department.
He was a member of the Philomathea Masonic Lodge #25, and an army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by two brothers; Carl A. Scott, Jr. and Robert Scott.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Mills Scott of the home; one daughter, Martha Lee Souther of Elberton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lamar Scott of Elberton, and Milton and Susan Scott of Calhoun Falls, SC; two granddaughters, Samantha Souther and Kristin Scott, both of Elberton; sister, Clara Sprouse of Greenwood, SC; and a brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Peggy Scott of Elberton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at Woodlawn United Methodist Church on Tuesday, April 27th at 4:00 PM with the Reverends Alvin Taylor, Russell Repetske and John Heckman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends at Hicks Funeral Home on Monday, April 26th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Memorials may be flowers or donations to the Woodlawn United Methodist Church, c/o Priscilla Madden, 3792 Brad Dixon Rd., Elberton.
Pallbearers will be Marvin Dye, Haley Fortson, Monty Dixon, Cecil Oakley, Jr., Michael Sale, Charlie Mills, Lee Scott and David Sale.
Members of the Philomathea Masonic Lodge #25 will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Hicks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Joel Miller Scott.

Douglas Aiken
DONALDS — Douglas A. Aiken, 90, of 321 Olin Smith Road, widow of Fletcher Aiken, died Monday, April 26, 2004 at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Edgar and Mary Butler Anderson.
She retired from Erskine College and was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Willie Ray Aiken of Greenwood, Roy Frank Aiken of Due West, Alvin Aiken and Darrough Aiken of Donalds; two daughters, Mary Jean Davis and Effie Ann Gladden of Honea Path; four brothers, Sylvester Anderson of Cokesbury, Clinton Anderson of Mauldin; A.D. Anderson of Donalds, Perry Anderson of New York; two sisters, Earlee Johnson of New York, Eula Mae Morton of Donalds; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at New Friendship Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Harold Johnson.
The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is at the home.
Viewing begins at noon today at Robinson-Walker Funeral Service.

Donna Clamp
ABBEVILLE — Donna Timms Clamp, 58, of 1013 Kay Road, widow of Fred Clamp, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at her home.
Services will be announced by Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home.

Dot Hollingsworth
Sarah Dorothy “Dot” Briggs Hollingsworth, 71, of 1822 Highway 246 N., wife of Ernest Hollingsworth, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at home.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Sally Hazel and Perry Hastings.
She retired from Abney Mills, Panola Plant and was of the Baptist faith.
She was first married to the late Thornwell Briggs.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Barry and Jerry Briggs, both of Greenwood; three stepchildren, Earline Pressley of Hodges, Jenia Johnson of Callison and Hank Hollingsworth of Bradley; a sister, Mary Alice Cobbler of Saluda; a brother, Perry Hastings of Greenwood; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Friday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Buddy Wiles.
Visitation is after the services.
The family is at 2522 Ridge Road, Hodges.

Robert Lee Jones
Robert Lee “Hard Rock” Jones, 59, of 122 Russell St., died Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at his home.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of James Jones and the late Mary Lewis Jones.
He was a member of Old Mount Zion Baptist Church, Epworth, and retired from Jones Masonry.
Survivors include his father of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Gregory (Brenda) Sibert of Greenwood; a sister, Mrs. Calvin (Mary J.) Edwards of Greenwood; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Robinson & Son Mortuary Inc.

Joe Allen Power
ABBEVILLE — Joe Allen Power, 67, of 103 Adams Drive, husband of Sarah Lou Connor Power, died Sunday, April 25, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Abbeville, he was a son of the late Joe and Mary Watt Power.
He was educated in Abbeville schools and formerly worked in construction.
He was a member of Campfield Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Joseph Power of Abbeville, George Connor and Charles H. Power, both of the home; three daughters, Estella P. Hill, Joe Ann Power and Roberta P. Norman of Abbeville; two brothers, Charlie Power of Philadelphia and Amos Power of Abbeville; three sisters, Emma Wine and Ella Mae Thomas, both of Queens, N.Y., Bella Aiken of Augusta, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Campfield Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mary Paul.
The body will be placed in the church at noon.
Burial is in the church cemetery.
Viewing is 1-8 p.m. today at Richie Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Jerry Cunningham
WARE SHOALS — Jerry Douglas “Pete” Cunningham, 57, of 16 Sparks Ave., died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late George Franklin Cunningham and Irene Thomas Cunningham Pyles.
He was a self-employed lawn maintenance contractor.
Survivors include a brother, Thomas Rayford Cunningham of Baltimore; two sisters, Virginia Langham of Thomson, Ga., and Donna Jean Brown of Chesapeake Bay, Md.
Graveside services are 11:30 a.m. today in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Marcus Bishop.
Visitation is graveside after the services.
The family is at the home of Dot Ridgeway, 17 Walnut St.

Billy Horne
ANDERSON — Jasper W. “Billy” Horne, 80, of 404 Brook Forest Drive, husband of Helen Alexander Horne, died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late Rev. Press P. and Annie Gertrude Horne.
He was a retired supervisor with the Durst Plant of Greenwood Mills, an Army WW II Veteran, attended Landmark Freewill Baptist Church and was a member of South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church.
He was twice married, first to the late Sara Frances Horne.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Danny Horne of Ware Shoals and David Horne of Columbia; three stepsons, Jack Cantrell of Liberty, Ben and Dennis Cantrell of Anderson; a stepdaughter, Linda Alexander of Anderson; three sisters, Myrtle Beasley and Marie Judy of Greenwood and Geneva Davenport; 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in Friendship Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, conducted by the Revs. Danny Keen, Lawrence Johnson and Sherrill Greene.
Burial is in Friendship Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Larry Judy, Donny Judy, Benji Cantrell, Adam Cantrell, Josh Alexander, Isaac Alexander and Zeke Cantrell.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home.
The family is at the home and a sister’s home, Myrtle Beasley, 109 Bryant Drive, Greenwood.
A graveside service is 11 a.m. today in Friendship Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery.

Crystal Smith
Crystal Lynn Smith, 23, of 2408 S. Main St., died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003 at her home.
She was a daughter of David Rickey Smith and Debbie Lindsey Smith.
She attended Merrywood and East End Schools and the Emerald Center.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.
Survivors include her parents; two sisters, Kayla Renea Smith of the home and Elizabeth Gail Smith of Newberry; a brother, Brandon Wayne Smith of the home; and maternal grandparents, Mirta Lindsey, David and Nell Lindsey, all of Greenwood, and paternal grandfather, Marion Wayne Massey of Greenwood.
Survivors also include maternal grandparents.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Harley Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Peter Hawes and Pastor Paul Reid.
Burial is in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are David and Jonathan Myers, Matthew Andrews and Eddie Laye.
Honorary escorts are Dr. Gratin Smith, Dr. Mike Gauderer, Emma Guilante, Natalie Wells, Angie Barnhart, Susan Daniels, Michelle Wells and Tina Tolson.
Visitation is from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of her grandmother, Mirta Lindsey, 113 Crescent Drive.
Memorials may be made to the Emerald Center, P.O. Box 3004-48, Greenwood, SC 29648.
