Willie J. Willis, Jr., 68, of 302 Highway 221 South, husband of Katie Simpson Willis, died Thursday, August 05, 2004 at his home.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Willie J. Willis, Sr. and Maude Tomlinson Willis. He was retired from Greenwood Mills, Durst Plant, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #834; Greenwood Lodge #91 A.F.M. and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Gaskin.
Surviving is his wife of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and David McMahan of Greenwood; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Tammy Willis, Freddie and Kim Willis and Brian Willis, all of Greenwood; a sister, Gladys Willis of Clinton; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Chris Garrison and the Rev. Robert Tolbert officiating.
Honorary escort will be Danny Ray Simpson, Nick Willis, Chris Willis, Fred Willis, Jason McMahan, Tim Royston, Todd Hanson, Chet Royston, Mike Royston and J. D. Smith.
The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Ella Mae Jones
HODGES — Ella Mae “Nanny” Gault Jones, 85, of 505 Gary Road, widow of Tommy O. Jones, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Fountain Inn, she was a daughter of the late Fowler and Dorothula Harrison Gault. She was a homemaker and a member of Cokesbury Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy “Dottie” Maughbourne of Stockbridge, Ga., and June J. Knowlton of Ninety Six; a son, Billy F. Jones of Palm Springs, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Nina Reynolds. Burial is in Edgewood Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Greg Murray, Shane Byerly, Mike Byerly, David Moss, Calvin B. Hodges and Reed Waterson.
Honorary escorts are Dr. Raymond Lewis, Raymond Lewis Jr., Kitty Lewis, Stephanie Lewis, Lindsey Lewis and Bobby Thompson.
Visitation is 1-2 Thursday at the funeral home.

NINETY SIX – Eugene “Pete” Price, 73, of 7509 Highway 246 South, Ninety Six, husband of Jessie Mae Butler Price, died Monday, May 17, 2004 at his home.
Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late John E. and Mattie Burnett Price. He was retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of Hopewell Congregational Holiness Church of Saluda.
Surviving is his wife of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jimmy Dean Butler of Ninety Six; three sisters, Becky Turner of Ninety Six, Carrie Lee Ganett of Batesburg and Patricia Day of Mullins; two grandsons, Jimmy Dean Butler, Jr. and Bryan Keith Butler and a granddaughter, Jamie Padget Butler, all of Ninety Six; and a great granddaughter, McKenzy Jordan Butler of Ninety Six and a special longtime friend, Marvin “Goob” Minor of Ninety Six.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Campbell, the Rev. Louie Murray and the Rev. Carroll Harrison officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Marvin Minor, Mike Balchin, Gary Price, Dudley Rushton, Robert Turner, Chris Williams and Carl Butler.
Honorary escort will be the men of Hopewell Congregational Holiness Church along with James Johnson, Glenn Price, Martin Turner and Ray White.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
The family is at the home of his daughter, Judy Butler, 7417 Highway 246 South, Ninety Six.

Elsie Tarrer
COLUMBIA – Elsie Simpson Tarrer, 67, resident of 67 Heritage Village Lane and former resident of Greenwood, died May 17, 2004 in Columbia.
Born in Greenwood County, July 3, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Williams Acker and Elsie Jones Simpson. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and attended Winthrop College and the University of South Carolina.
Ms. Tarrer was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Greenwood.
Surviving are a son, Bill Tarrer, Jr. of Columbia and a daughter, Katherine T. and her husband, David L. Locklair of Columbia; two grandsons, William David Locklair and Jonathan Simpson Locklair of Columbia and her former husband of 37 years, Bill Tarrer, Sr. of Greenwood.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3PM Thursday from the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Greenwood with Rev. Peter Hawes officiating.
Private burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends in Bishop’s Hall at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection from 2 to 3 Thursday afternoon.

Robert Taylor
CHARLESTON – Robert Raymond Taylor, 77, resident of 2619 Ridgewood Avenue, widower of Mildred Brown Taylor, died May 17, 2004 at Sandpiper Convalescent Center inMt. Pleasant.
Born March 25, 1927 in Palmerton, PA, he was a son of the late Robert and Iola Hontz Taylor. He was a US Navy Veteran and retired from the Charleston Naval Ship Yard in Charleston, SC.
Mr. Taylor was a member of St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Men’s Club, church choir and the Arthur Burbage Sunday School Class, all of the church.
Surviving are three sons, Calvin R. Taylor of Ware Shoals, Michael L. Taylor and Phillip R. Taylor, both of Mt. Pleasant. A brother, Norman Taylor of Bethlehem, PA; two sisters, Eleanor Holden of Fernley, NV and Pearl Denton of Bridgewater, NY. Six grand-children, Rodney Taylor, Sunni Crow, Samantha Jones, Brian Taylor, Patrick Taylor and James Taylor and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Keith D. Taylor.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, May 20, 2004, at 11:00 AM at Green-wood Memorial Gardens with Rev. Robert C. Cox officiating.
A memorial service will be conducted Friday, May 21, 2004, at 11:00 AM at St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Church in Charleston.
Pallbearers will be John Coates, Frank Coates, Bill Beeks, Ernest Hammonds, Daniel Hammonds, Art Brown, Brian Taylor and Rodney Taylor.
The family is at the home of a son, Robbie Taylor, 9 Woodlawn Drive in Ware Shoals and will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home in Greenwood from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening.
Memorials may be made to St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Church, 3225 Ashley River Rd., Charleston, SC 29414.

GRAY COURT — William Marvin Varner, 72, of 150 K & R Road, Hickory Tavern Community, husband of Barbara Graydon Varner, died Monday, May 17, 2004 at his home.
Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Marion A. and Cora Cogdill Varner. An Army veteran of the Korean conflict, he retired as a press operator from Ceramtec and was a member of Henderson Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Billy Varner and Donald N. Varner, both of the home; a sister, Dorothy Childress of Laurens; two grandchildren.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Henderson Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Larry Padgett, Gerald Crawford and Dan Compton. Burial is in Westview Memorial Park.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Kennedy Mortuary, Laurens.
The family is at the home.

Rogers Watson Sr.
BRADLEY — Rogers Watson Sr., 51, of 2604 County Line Road, husband of Gertrude C. “Molly” Watson, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at his home.
Born in Bradley, he was a son of Dorothy W. Watson and the late Ellis Watson Sr. He was an employee of Capsugel and a member of Second Mount Moriah Baptist Church, where he was a trustee and a member of the Brotherhood and Senior Choir.
Survivors include his mother of Greenwood; his wife of the home; four sons, Ellis Kendall Watson of the home, Rogers Watson Jr. of Greenville, Ramodo Desmand Watson of Edgefield and Roderickus Lydale Watson of Greenwood; six brothers, Ellis Watson Jr. of Gaffney, Bernard Watson and Donald Watson, both of Greenwood, Stanley Watson of Anderson, Bennie Lee Watts of McCormick and John Henry Hill of Promised Land; three sisters, Dorothy Ann Belcher and Sandra Haley, both of Greenwood and Vanessa Haley of Ninety Six; three grandchildren.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Parks Funeral Home, Greenwood.

Services for Magnolia “Peaches” Allen are 2 p.m. today at Macedonia Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Willie S. Harrison, assisted by the Revs. Raymond Adams, Robert Harrison, Joseph Leverett and James Leverett. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial is in Mount Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.

HODGES — Services for John Thomas “J.T.” Arnold, of 104 Parker Road, are at noon Saturday at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Cokesbury. The Rev. Derrick Scott is presiding, and the Rev. Dr. Amos Harling is delivering the eulogy. Assisting are the Revs. Tommy Stanford, Michael Butler and John Brightharp. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Burial is in Evening Star Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are nephews and grandsons.
Flower bearers are nieces and granddaughters.

William J. Boone
William Julius Boone, 69, of 423 Highway 246 N., husband of Frances Catoe Boone, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at his home.
Born in Kershaw County, he was a son of the late Yancy and Evely H. Barrett Boone. He retired from Duke Power Co. after 30 years of service and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Joey Boone of Greenwood and Danny Starnes of Pageland; two daughters, Mrs. John C. (Robin) Callas of Greenwood and Mrs. Jeremiah (Candy) Akins of Ninety Six; three brothers, Junior Boone of Manning, Rayburn Barrett of Vanyck and Burch Boone of Rock Hill; five sisters, Betty Hayes and Vera Knight, both of Kershaw, Edith Carnes of Pageland, Elaine Thomas and Teresa Boone, both of Rock Hill; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild.
Graveside services are 1p.m. Saturday at Oakbrook Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Richard Walker.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.

Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of Helen Riley Davis and the late John Herman Davis. He was a machinist with Solutia and a member of Lupo United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, John Anthony Davis of Hodges and Dylan Jonathon Davis of the home; his mother of Greenwood; a sister, Mrs. Russell Larry (Rita Davis) Holland of St. Augustine, Fla.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Blyth Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. David Evans and Charles Sperry. Burial is in Rehoboth United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Pete Luker, Bob Still, Tony Evans, Troy Calliham, Matt Chapman, Bill Michaels, Rocky Phillips and Tommy Johnson.
