George Anthony Wright
ABBEVILLE — George Anthony Wright, 33, of 341 Mount Olive Church Road, died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.
Born in Abbeville County, he was a son of Martha Killingsworth and George Brown. He attended Abbeville High School and was a truck driver. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his mother of the home; his stepfather Claude Killingsworth of Abbeville; a son, Geordarius Wright of Abbeville; a sister, Consuelo Killingsworth of the home; maternal grandmother, Fannie M. Williams of Abbeville.
The family is at the home.
Services will be announced by Brown and Walker Funeral Home.

Dial Cox
HONEA PATH — Wilson Dial Cox, 86, of 16328 Highway 76 W., husband of Beatrice Boiter Cox, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at his home.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Tuston Bluford and Onie Graves Cox. He retired from Riegel Textile Corp. and was a chicken farmer and cattleman. He was a member of Piedmont Egg Producers Association, Princeton Masonic Lodge No. 129, Laurens County Shrine Club and Hejaz Temple.
Survivors include his wife of the home and a sister, Mozelle Sanders of Danville, Va.
Services are 3 p.m. today at Parker-White Funeral Home, Ware Shoals, conducted by the Revs. Kirt Mitchell and Jimmy Hogsed. Burial is in West View Memorial Park, Laurens.
Visitation is 2-3 today at the funeral home.
The family is at the home.

Lilly R. Hart
MONCKS CORNER — Lilly Robinson Hart, 89, of Moncks Corner, a retired owner and operator of Lilly’s Store, died Tuesday at a Moncks Corner nursing home.
The graveside funeral service will be at 11 AM, Friday, in the Troy Cemetery, located in Troy, SC, Greenwood County. Burial will be directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner.
Mrs. Hart was born July 31, 1914 in Troy, SC, a daughter of William Harvey Robinson and Adelaide (Addie) Wardlaw Robinson. She lived most of her life in Troy where she owned and operated Lilly’s Store. Mrs. Hart was a dedicated Christian and loyal in church attendance so long as her health permitted. She was the widow of James Cline Hart.
Mrs. Hart is survived by a daughter-Ruth Hart Lusk and son-in-law, James (Jack) Lusk of Moncks Corner, SC, with whom she made her home since 1986. Other survivors include grandchildren, Laurie Ann Lusk of Moncks Corner, Tracey Lusk Gianini and husband Peter Gianini of Hilton Head, James Kevin Lusk and wife Claudette Thornley Lusk of Moncks Corner; great-grandchildren, Justin Bradley Robinette, AnnaLeigh Hart Robinette, LeighAnna Ruth Causey, Gracen Elizabeth Lusk, Grant Robinson Lusk, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday evening. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice, or the Callen-Lacey Center for Children, P.O. Box 1829, Moncks Corner, SC 29461 or to the Troy Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 23, Troy, SC 29848.

James J. Hill
ABBEVILLE — James J. Hill, of Abbeville Nursing Home, widower of Queen Hill, died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Calhoun Falls, he was a son of the late Amsper McCullough and Ammy Wade Hill. He was a World War II Army veteran and a construction worker.
Survivors include a niece.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Glovers A.M.E. Church in Calhoun Falls, conducted by the Rev. Larry Merrill. Burial is in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1.
Viewing is 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m. today at Richie Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of his niece, Lilla Ray, 304 Meadow Drive.

Eleanor B. Owens
BARNWELL — Eleanor Boland Owens, 75, widow of Elbert Guy Owens Jr., died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at her home.
Born in Spartanburg, she was a daughter of the late Frank David and Louise Wynn Boland. She was a graduate of Lander College and received a master’s degree in biology from the University of Virginia and Stetson University. She taught chemistry and biology in Goldsboro, N.C., earth science at Guinyard-Butler Middle School, Barnwell, and tennis in Louisiana and North Carolina. A member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy, she authored many books about local history, South Carolina, Indians, tennis, family history and of fiction.
Survivors include three sons, Guy Font Owens and Gary Wynn Owens, both of Lafayette, La., Patrick Alfred Owens of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Mary Lee Eleanor Boggs of Yorktown, Va.; a sister, Jimmie Lee Bialy of Barnwell; 13 grandchildren.
Memorial services are 11 a.m. Friday at Boiling Springs Presbyterian Church, Boiling Springs Community, conducted by the Rev. Posey Belcher.
Memorials may be made to the Eleanor Boland Owens Scholarship Fund, c/o P.O. Box 1368, Barnwell, SC 29812.

Robert E. Lee Pickens
CHARLOTTE, NC – Robert E. Lee Pickens died peacefully Tuesday, July 27, 2004 of complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He was born February 7, 1919 in Anderson, SC, son of the late Augustus D. Pickens and Myrtie S. Pickens. Lee was a graduate of Clemson University and attended the Wharton School of Finance. He was president of P & S Threads Association and a veteran of WWII where he was captain in the Air Force. An avid golfer and former Charlotte city champion, Lee was a member of Charlotte Country Club. He was a charter member of Providence United Methodist Church.
Mr. Pickens is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lula Stanback Pickens; daughters, Betsy Karlberg and husband, Steve of Charlotte, Jane O’Mara and husband Michael of Nantucket, Massachusetts; son, Bob and wife Angela of Bloomfield Hills Michigan; son-in-law, Mark Durham of Asheville. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Pickens Durham. Also surviving are his adored 8 grandchildren, Mary, Julia and Hannah Pickens, Elisabeth, Shevaun and John O’Mara, David and Todd Durham. Papa was never happier than when he was surrounded by his family.
A memorial service for Mr. Pickens will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2004 at Harry and Bryant Company “Chapel in the Oaks” with the Rev. Dr. Ken Carter officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends following the service at Harry & Bryant Company.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Debbie Pickens Durham Scholarship Fund, Scotland County Public Schools, 322 S. Main Street, Laurinburg, NC 28352, Attn: Sharon Hales or the charity of one’s choice.
Harry & Bryant Company is serving the family of Mr. Pickens.

Sara Seigler White
McCORMICK — Sara Seigler White, 80, of Route 2, widow of R.T. White, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at St. Joseph Hospital.
Born in McCormick County, she was a daughter of the late Calvin and Minnie Seigler White. She retired from Milliken Mills, serving as a textile operator for 42 years. She was a member of McCormick EMS, the Golden Step Cloggers, the Sunshine Girls and the Advisory Council for Clemson Extension Agency. She was a member of Plum Branch Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Alton White of McCormick; three daughters, Patsy W. Smith of Martinez, Ga., Barbara W. Boyd of Grovetown, Ga., and Susan White of McCormick; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Plum Branch Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Darrell Engle and Otto McDonald. Burial is in Plum Branch Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Billy Seigler, Dwayne Stapleton, Greg Seigler, Chris Boyd, Tommy Kelaher, Lee Hegler, Bucky Seigler and Jimmy Seigler.
Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Strom Funeral Home.
The family is at the home of Alton Seigler.
Memorials may be made to McCormick Emergency Services, Augusta Street Extension, McCormick, SC 29835.

Charlene Bourne
Charlene Heard Bourne, 83, of 315 Ridgeway, widow of Cullen E. Bourne III, died Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Athens, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Charles Hubert and Reba Williamson Heard. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School. She was formerly employed by Jay’s House of Fabrics and more recently employed by The Belmont Inn in Abbeville. A member of the First Presbyterian Church, she was also a member of the Greenwood Woman’s Club and the Taran Tella Dance Club.
Survivors include three sons, Charles A. “Butch” Johnson of Greenwood, Cullen E. “Rusty” Bourne IV and Ted S. Bourne, both of Donalds; a sister, Nyra H. Nelson of Greenwood; a brother, Charles W. “Bill” Heard of Greenwood; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Services are 5 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, conducted by Dr. George Wilson. The body will be placed in the church at 4. Burial is in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are W. Townes Jones IV, Roger Dent, William “Wick” Scurry, Fred Duff, Howard Cohen, Ricky Duff, Thomas Brooks, Jimmy Steadman and David McMahan.
Honorary escorts are Robert Street Jr., Billy Dukes, Jack Bourne, David Nelson, Dr. Richard Hunton and Billy Kelley.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Blyth Funeral Home.

William Eddie Crapps, 70, died Thursday, July 29, 2004.
Visitation is 10-11 Saturday at First Baptist Church of Greenwood.
Services will be announced by Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Columbia.

Mr. Frank Leo Hayes
MERIDIAN, MS – Services for Mr. Frank Leo Hayes will be held Sat., July 31, 2004 at 11:30 at Barham Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Malcolm Lewis and Rev. Dennis Duvall officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Barham Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hayes, 69, of Meridian, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Specialty Hospital. He was Retired Navy.
Survivors include children: Frank Leo Hayes Jr. and wife April of Liberty, SC; Don Owens of Meridian; Paula “Cricket” Snowden and husband Alan of Meridian; grandchildren: Chris, Ansley and Kelsey Hayes; Conner Johnson; Ashley Owens; John Darrell Tipp; Benjamin Owens; Tracey Turner Davis; B. J. Turner; and Michael Owens; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Mary Frances Hayes McGaha; Lois Blanch Hayes Wood; Ruth Virginia Hayes Hodges, all of South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mae Dell Hayes and daughter Kathy Jo Hayes Turner.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home.
Mr. Hayes was a Shriner, 32 Degree Mason, Retired Navy, retired Civil Servant, and an avid golfer of more than 40 years.
Pallbearers will be Walter Williams, John Mobley, Gene Hagley, J.J. Jones, John Oxendine and Norman McKenzie. Honorary: Bob Richmond and Percy Howland.

William H. Jackson
GREENWOOD – William H. “Bill” Jackson, 75, husband of Rekah Mims “Sig” Jackson, of 111 Rosemont Drive, died Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Rocky Mountain, NC, he was a son of the late Robert Alexander and Inez Williams Jackson.He was a retired Railroad employee; was a U.S. Army Korean Conflict Veteran, and was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Margaret Tolston and husband Ernest of Elm City, NC; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Vincent and Jean Mims of Laurens; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, July 31, 2004 at The Kennedy Mortuary Chapel conducted by Revs. Jim Johnston and David Bonner with entombment in Forest Lawn Mausoleum.
The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at The Kennedy Mortuary on Saturday from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 550 Highway 72 Bypass NW, Greenwood, SC 29649-1300.
