Linda W. Carraway
Linda Richardson Whitesel Carraway, 53, wife of Alton Carraway, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at her home.

Born Nov. 5, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Dr. George and Jeanne Gardner Richardson. She was a registered nurse and was of the Methodist faith. She was first married to Carl Whitesel Jr.

Survivors include her husband of Gable; two daughters, Faith Carraway of Goose Creek and Noelle Britt of Lorain, Ohio; a son, Carl Whitesel III of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Dawn Kissinger of Fullerton, Calif.; a brother, Larry Richardson of Gable; one stepson, Alton Carraway Jr. of Aiken; one stepdaughter, Linda Dawn Horres of Aiken; eight grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Services were 3 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Cribb officiating.

Memorials may be made to the S.C. Diabetic Association.

Earl A. Guldan
Earl Andrew “George” Guldan, 90, widower of Billie Duke Guldan, died Monday, March 11, 2002, at his son’s home.

Born Sept. 17, 1911, in Sandusky, Ohio, he was the son of the late George J. Guldan Sr. and Kathryn Snider Guldan. He was a retired home builder and real estate appraiser in Sumter, Lee and Clarendon Counties. Upon his retirement in 1976, he continued to do furniture refinishing and woodwork at his shop in Summerton. He learned his craft from his father at the Jackson-Guldan Violin Company in Columbus, Ohio. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran and a member of Summerton Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a son, George J. Guldan Jr. of Sumter and his wife Susan Sowdon Guldan; two grandsons, George J. Guldan III of Columbia and Bradley S. Guldan of Sumter; and a great-granddaughter Shelby Ann Guldan of Sumter.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Marion Conrad, Ruth Kunz, Kate Steward and Dorothy Guldan.

Services were 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Summerton Presbyterian Church.

Burial followed in Summerton Evergreen Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Summerton Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 235, Summerton, S.C. 29148.

Tony G. Poston
Tony G. Poston, 44, husband of Marty Geddings Poston, died Saturday, March 16, 2002.

Born in Georgetown County, he was the son of the late Hermis P. Poston and Roxie M. Howard Poston. He was Pentecostal Holiness and was employed by Tidewater Corp.

Survivors besides his wife include two daughters, Tonia Poston of Sumter and Amber Poston of Pelion; a stepdaughter, Sara Mooneyhan of Sumter; four brothers, Buddy Poston and Stanley Poston of Florence and James Poston and Aaron Poston of Turbeville; four sisters, Loretta Shaw of Darlington, Burnell Benjamin of Texas , Linda Kay Poston and Myra Ruth of Florence; and someone special.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Delma Brown.

Services were 4 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Bower and Rod Ruth Jr. officiating.

Burial followed in Sumter Cemetery.

Marion Brown, Marion McFaddin, Robert Kinsley, Jeff Callen, Bruce Galloway, Aaron Poston Jr. and Phil Brown served as pallbearers.

Members of the CRMC served as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the Crosswell Children’s Home December Toy Run, c/o John Cordell, 4340 Birch Court, Dalzell, S.C. 29040.

Willa M. Prosser
Willa Mae Matthews Prosser, 67, widow of Willie Joe Prosser, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at her residence after an illness.

Born in Florence, she was the daughter of the late Jonas T. and Maude Jordan Matthews. She retired from Wachovia Bank of Lake City and was a member of Lake City Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Mac Wall Sunday school class.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda (Roger) Marlowe of Manning and Cindy (John) King of Clinton; two sons, Joey (Millie) Prosser of John’s Island and Tony (Beth) Prosser of Manning; one sister, Roy Lee Hutto of Scranton; one brother, Harry James Matthews of Conway; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services were 11 a.m. Saturday in the Brockington Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial followed in the Lake City Memorial Park.

Henry Robinson
Henry Robinson, 72, husband of Evangelist Mary Robinson, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, in Elizabeth City, N.J.

Born June 8, 1929, in Clarendon County, he was the son of the late Mose Robinson and Lucretia Green Robinson. He attended the public schools of Clarendon County and Brooklyn, N.Y. In his youth, he was a member of Liberty Hill AME Church. He was a member of Holy House of Prayer and later joined Corinthian Baptist Church in South Plainfield, N.J.

Survivors besides his wife include three sons, Nathaniel Hayward, Terrell Hayward and Melvin White of South Plainfield; six daughters, Cynthia Robinson Brown, Anjela Davis, Deborah Hayward, Kim Hayward, Michell Purcell and Arlene Green of South Plainfield; a sister, Ethel Thompson; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Warren Robinson and Edward Robinson.

Services were 1 p.m. Wednesday at Liberty Hill AME Church with the Rev. M.L. Duncan officiating, along with the Revs. Henry Mitchell, Dr. Myra Pearson and Betty Johnson assisting.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Jimmie L. Satterfield
Jimmie Lee Satterfield, 60, husband of Jan Singleton Satterfield, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at his home.

Born May 2, 1941, in London, Tenn., he was the son of the late Francis Lee Satterfield and Ruth Calhoun Satterfield. He was a government contractor and was of the Presbyterian faith. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Survivors besides his wife of Summerton include a son, Francis Lee Satterfield II of Nichols; a daughter, Ashley Amanda Satterfield of Myrtle Beach; a brother, Bennie Satterfield of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sisters, Ruth Ann Satterfield of Kyles Ford, Tenn. and Regina Wombles of Lafollette, Tenn.; and two grandsons, Jacob and Jesse Satterfield.

Services were 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Stephens Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Tuomey Hospice, 232 W. Calhoun Street, Sumter, S.C. 29150.

Morris Brailsford
Morris Brailsford Sr., 87, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 9, 1914, he was the son of the late Joseph Brailsford and Margaret Watson Brailsford.

He attended Clarendon County public schools and was a member of Liberty Hill AME Church. He later resided in Philadelphia, Pa., where he was the owner of two businesses. He was employed by Kaplin Prime Meat Company prior to his retirement.

Survivors include a son, Morris Brailsford Jr. of Conshohocken, Pa.; a daughter, Margaret Blackshear Turner of Englewood, Calif.; and a sister, Josie Richburg of Summerton.

Services were 10 a.m. Monday at Liberty Hill AME Church in Summerton with the Revs. Malachi Duncan, G. Watson, Rufus Gaymon and Henry Cohen officiating.

Burial followed in the Liberty Hill AME Church Cemetery.

Rosa L. Cunningham
Rosa Lee Cunningham, 73, wife of Newton R. Cunningham, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born August 28, 1928, in the St. Paul section of Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Rosa Nelson. She attended Clarendon County public schools. She was a member of Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Newton Roy Cunningham of Suffolk, Va., Julius Lee Cunningham and Tony Isreal Cunningham of Sumter and Willie Alfred Cunningham of Augusta, Ga.; four daughters, Marie Brown of Brooklyn, N.Y., Yvonne Johnson and Rosemell Legett of Bronx, N.Y., and Viola Williams of Trenton, N.J.; three brothers, Joseph Nelson, Elijah Nelson and Gilbert Nelson of Sumter; a sister, Ola Mae Williams of Summerton; 29 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nola Cunningham.

Services were 3 p.m. Friday at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Marion H. Newton officiating, along with Pastor Ricky Simmons assisting.

Burial followed in the Bradford Cemetery.

Hennie Oliver Montgomery
Hennie Oliver Montgomery, 93, widow of James Franklin Montgomery, died Friday, March 22, 2002, in Providence Hospital.

Born Feb. 11, 1909, in Greeleyville, she was the daughter of the late James Moultrie Oliver and Maria Footman Oliver. She was a graduate of Greeleyville High School, attended Droughns Business College in Columbia and was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Manning.

Survivors include two sons, Franklin Oliver Montgomery and wife Scarlet of Myrtle Beach and Ronald Joseph Montgomery of Manning; two daughters, Peggy M. Skoler and husband Mort of Manning and Patricia M. Arndt of Myrtle Beach; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Gertrude DuRant and Itie Nelson; three brothers, Moultrie Oliver, Samuel Oliver and Charles Henry Oliver; and a granddaughter, Julie Skoler.

Graveside services were 2 p.m. Sunday in DuRant Cemetery near Manning with Dr. William J. Holmes officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Church of Manning, P.O. Box 207, Manning, S.C. 29102.

Robert Scott Jr.
Robert “Bird” Scott Jr., 45, died Friday, March 15, 2002, at Providence Hospital.

Born May 23, 1956, in Manning, he was the son of Luetisher Bowman Scott Goings and the late Robert Scott Sr. and stepson of James Goings. He attended Manning High School. In his youth, he attended Fourth Crossroad Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Daniels Equipment of Manning and Carolina Golden Products of Sumter.

Survivors besides his mother and stepfather of Sumter include a son, Robert Scott III of Atlanta, Ga.; and three brothers, James Scott and his wife Renee of New York, N.Y., Mack Scott and his wife Joan of Sumter and Laney Scott and his wife Betty of Paxville.

Services were 11 a.m. Saturday at Fourth Crossroad Baptist Church in Manning with the Rev. George K. Carter, pastor, officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.
