LORRAINE M. ANDERSON

Services for Lorraine Anderson, 96, Redfield will be 1pm, Friday, July 24, 2009 at First United Methodist Church, Pastor Eldon Reich officiating. Burial at Riverside Memorial Park. Lorraine died Saturday at Eastern Star Home in Redfield.

Visitation: 1-7pm, Thursday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, Aberdeen.

Lorraine M. Demaray was born February 5, 1913 to Louis and Ina (Penning) Demaray at Pipestone, MN. She grew up in Pipestone and attended elementary and middle school there. In 1928, her family moved to Mitchell. Lorraine graduated from Mitchell High School in 1931. In June of 1949, the family moved to Aberdeen.

Lorraine married Roger V. Anderson on January 13, 1932. Lorraine worked at Aberdeen’s Montgomery Ward Co. as an alteration lady. She was also employed with the Brown County Auditor’s Office from 1960 to 1964. Lorraine then worked as a secretary in the Math and Science Department of Northern State University from 1965 to 1972. Roger died on January 27, 1977.

On February 14, 1981, Lorraine married Eldon G. Jury. Eldon died on November 27, 1991.

Lorraine was a 68 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Past Matron of Starlight Chapter 41 of Mitchell and Minerva Chapter No. 5 of Aberdeen. She was a member and Past Queen of Aurora Temple, Daughters of the Nile, Aberdeen. Lorraine was a volunteer at the First United Methodist Church where she recorded attendance records. She also volunteered with Avera St. Luke’s Pastoral Care. She used her talents to sew with the YWCA Sewing Ladies for 25 years, sewing Storybook Land characters and Wizard of Oz characters. She also volunteered at the Dakota Prairie Museum.

Grateful for having shared Lorraine’s life are her daughter, Juanita J. Misslitz of Aberdeen; three sons: Larry L. (Phyllis) Anderson of Aberdeen, Richard K. (Rayola) Anderson of Black Hawk, SD, and Robert V. (Karen) Anderson of Huron, SD; eleven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.

Preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, three sisters and infant nephew.

RODNEY FISCHER

The service for Rodney W. Fischer, 79, Aberdeen, will be 10:30am, Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Marcia Sylvester officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park with military honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24. Rodney died Monday, July 13, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

Visitation will be from 1-7pm, Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

Rodney Fischer was born July 8, 1930 in Herreid, SD to Emil & Emma (Brunmeier) Fischer. He was raised on the family farm. Rodney graduated from Herreid High School with the class of 1948. He entered the US Army on January 11, 1952 and was honorably discharged on December 16, 1953.

On February 21, 1954 Rodney married Verlimain “Jane” Maier at Eureka, SD. They farmed for a couple years before moving to Aberdeen in 1956. Rodney worked for the City of Aberdeen for thirty-six years.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Rodney especially enjoyed his family, collecting toy tractor, hunting and fishing.

Grateful for having shared Rodney’s life are his wife, Verlimain “Jane”, children, Miranda (Tom) Ellingson, Sioux Falls; Bruce (Cheryl) Fischer, Sioux Falls; Gay (Jonathan) Ristau, Aberdeen; grandchildren, Patrick (Jennifer) Ellingson; Christopher (Karolyn) Ellingson; Nickolas Ellingson; Valerie Fischer; Jonathan Fischer; Mattius Fischer; Adrian (Sarah) Young; Jason Grote; Matthew (Katie) Ristau; Tiffany Ristau; Amanda Ristau; great grandchildren, Caden, Brock, Korrin and Collin Ellingson, Micah and Samuel Young, William Ristau; brother, Stacey (Lois) Fischer; and sister, Cleo Steinbiess.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Delphena Bucholz.

Pallbearers will be Patrick, Christopher and Nickolas Ellingson, Matthew Ristau, Jonathan and Mattius Fischer.

LINDA FISK

The service for Linda Fisk, 68, Bath, will be 10:30 am, Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Haggar officiating. Burial will be at Britton Cemetery. Linda died Saturday, July 11, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

Visitation will be 1-6 pm today, July 14th with family present from 4-6 pm and a prayer service at 6 pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

Linda Kay Seibel was born March 26, 1941 to Claton & Inez Seibel in Britton, SD. She was raised on the family farm north of Kidder, SD and graduated from Kidder High School in 1961.

Linda married Boyd Fisk on June 25, 1961 in Kidder, SD.

Linda enjoyed life, being a homemaker and raising their sons.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Aberdeen, and enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, knitting, crocheting and time with family.

Grateful for having shared Linda’s life are her husband, Boyd Fisk; sons, Kevin (Mimi) Fisk, Brown Deer, WI; Capt (USAF Ret.) Micheal (Karen) Fisk, Knob Noster, MO; Doyle (Holly) Fisk, Wendell, MN; brother, Alan (Bev) Seibel, Britton; sister, Janet Daly, Astoria, NY; grandchildren, Conor, Bryce, Haden, Micaela, Shayne, Claton & Jeremy.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Duane Seibel.

ROBERT HANSEN

Robert Hansen, 66, Aberdeen, died Sunday, July 5, 2009 at his home.

Arrangements are pending with Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

SHELLY MARIE ANDERSON

Services for Shelly Marie Anderson, 43, Aberdeen, are 2:00pm, Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen, with Pastor Gary Wileman officiating. Shelly died Wednesday, July 8, at her home.

Visitation: 9am-2pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Survived by three children: Carl, Marie, and MeChell Anderson; brothers: Ole (Lori) Smith, Dwain Smith, Rusty Greenman, Stanley Liljeblad, Gregory Liljeblad, Roy Smith, Butch Greenman, Ronald Greenman; sisters: Rhonda Smith, Mellissa Smith, Tracey Brundage, Sherry Greenman, Cheryl Greenman, and Susan Greenman.

EMMET M. “PETE” PETERSON JR.

The service for Emmett M. “Pete” Peterson, Jr., 71, Watertown, will be 2:00pm, Friday, July 10, 2009 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Pastory Hyle Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park. Emmett died Wednesday, July 8, at Prairie Lakes Hospital, Watertown.

Visitation will be from 1-7pm, Thursday, with family present from 5-7pm at Sptizer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. Aberdeen.

Emmett Peterson was born March 26, 1938 at Aberdeen, SD to Emmett & Elsie (Sander) Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. After his schooling, Emmett began working on the family farm.

On November 24, 1961 Emmett married Sylvia Sperle at Aberdeen. To this union were added two children. Emmett began to build the family farm and worked at a car dealership, at Warner School for twenty-five years, was a weather spotter for Aberdeen for several years, and at Public Opion in Watertown part-time during his retirement.

Grateful for having shared Emmett’s life are his wife, Sylvia Peterson, daughter, Karna Peterson (Chuck) Swenson, son, David Peterson, grandchildren, Keith Peterson, Blake Swenson, Hope Swenson, great grandsons, Kaleb, Isaak, and sister, Sharon (Gary) Dixon and family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Emmett & Elise.

ELLA HANSON LARSON

Services for Ella Hanson Larson, 97, Aberdeen, is 2:00pm, Saturday, July 11, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pastor Mary Anne Nelson-Loefke officiating. Burial is at Riverside Memorial Park. Ella died Friday, July 3, at ManorCare Health Services, with her granddaughter Amy and good friend Jan Frink at her bedside.

Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church

Arrangements by Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home.

Ella was born to Edward & Samuelina (Navelsaker) Hanson, an immigrant from Norway, in a sod house in Harding County and attended the Hanson School there. She later graduated from high school in 1928 at Bowman, ND. Ella then moved to Sioux Falls and attended Nettleton Business College. She then started work at the State Treasury Office at the State Capitol in Pierre. There she met Carl (Wally) Larson. Because he was assigned to the Jonesboro, Arkansas C.C.C. camp, they were married there in 1936. Later, when WWII began, Wally was activated in the Army and wa assigned to several different training camps in the southern states. In December of 1944, he was sent to combat duty in Europe. Ella took their two young boys back to Pierre, SD to await his return. After his discharge, he settled in Aberdeen, where he started a construction business.

Ella loved to play bridge, cook and work in her yard. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and was an active member of the Altar Guild, Yelduz Shrine Auxiliary, Daughters of the Nile, and a member in the Current Events Club.

Grateful for having shared Ella’s life are her three sons, David (Mary) Larson, Steven (Trish) Larson and Carl Larson; Grandchildren Paul (Irina) Larson, David (Denise Ross) Larson, Grant (Laura) Larson, Erin (Tony) Sellars, Christopher (Amy) Larson and Amy L. Larson; and eight Great Grandchildren.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents, Edward & Samuelina Hanson, husband Carl W. Larson, and her sisters Bertha Mattson, Mabel Hanson, Nora Lawrence and a brother Alfred Hanson.

A memorial has been established to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Ella will be missed immensely by her family and friends.

Ernest “Ernie” Henry Heyd

The funeral service for Ernest “Ernie” H. Heyd, 85, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 6th, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Eldon Reich officiating. Burial following at Riverside Cemetery, Aberdeen, with Military Honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24. Ernest died Thursday, July 2nd at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Visitation: 2:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 5th with family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.

Ernest Heyd was born July 1, 1924 at Long Lake, SD to Gustve and Rosy (Delzer) Heyd. This is the area where he grew up and attended school. Ernie entered the Army in 1943 until 1946. He served in the Pacific Theatre and was stationed on Midway and Okinawa. In 1948 Ernest returned to the Army to serve in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1952. After military service Ernest moved near Leola, SD where he farmed. On June 26, 1955 he married Glendora Wolff in Aberdeen, SD. They made their home on a farm near Leola before retiring to Aberdeen in 1994.

Ernie was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was also a life member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Ernie was a past member of Leola American Legion Post 78 and was a member of Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24. Ernie was known for his helpful spirit and willingness to always lend a hand. He was a loving and caring man. Ernie’s hobbies were leather work and woodworking. He also served by delivering Meals on Wheels.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Glendora, five children: Lorren (Janet) Weber, Aberdeen, Joanella Weber, Santa Cruz, CA, Meillo Hochhalter, Los Angeles, CA, Noella (Pernell) Graf, Groton, SD, Wayne (Mary) Heyd, Maynard, MN; nine grandchildren: Roxanne Weber, Brian Weber, Todd (Amber) Weber, Cheryl Graf, Tim Kaiser, Brady Graf, Alexander Graf, Caroline Graf, and Dylon Graf; and six great grandchildren: Tanya Farm, Kelsey Farm, Savannah Farm, Jadan Weber, Devin Weber and Jordin Weber. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Gustve and Rosy, three brothers and five sisters.

ETTA L. BAIN

The funeral service for Etta L. Bain, 96, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30 am, Friday, June 26, 2009, at First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Gary Wileman officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Garden’s Mosoleum, Aberdeen. Etta died Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen.

Visitation is 1:00-7:00pm, with family present from 5:00-7:00pm, Thursday June 25, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.

Etta L. Crabtree was born December 14, 1912 near Loyalton, SD to Robert E. Lee and Grace Bell (Fuller) Crabtree. As an infant the family moved to the Frederick area and later to the Forbes, ND area where she attended school in Palmayra Township. After school she took care of children in the rural area.

Etta married Ernest Bain on September 29, 1936 at Aberdeen, SD. They made their home on a farm near Frederick. Etta and Ernest lived on the farm until September, 1997 when they moved to Aberdeen. Ernest died November 1st, 2004.

Etta was a member of First Assembly of God Church and taught the Special Needs Sunday School classes for 20 years. Etta was an avid gardener and nature lover. She was also a member of Friendly Club of McPherson County, Extension Club in Brown County and a youth leader for the Brown County Farmer’s Union.

Grateful for having shared Etta’s life are one son, Berwyn “Barney” (Sharon) Bain, Frederick SD, three daughters: Lola (Ben) Johnson, DeSmet, SD, Lela (Delmer) Nordstrom, Renner SD, and Wilmajean “Billie”(Kenneth) Ham, Westport SD, 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Etta was preceded in death by her husband Ernest, 6 Brothers, 3 Sisters and 1 Grandson.
