Lola Hoeke Burkholder

Mrs. Lola Burkholder, age 91 of Milbank passed away December 10th at the Milbank Area Hospital - Avera Health.

Funeral services will be Monday, December 14th at 10:30 a.m. at Valley Baptist Church in Milbank. Rev. Dennis Webber and Rev. Paul Boeker will officiate. Burial will be in the Milbank Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday at Mundwiler Funeral Home from 5 – 7 p.m. and continue on Monday at the church, one hour prior to the services.

Music will be provided by Betty DeBoer, pianist; a vocal trio: Barb Bear, Phylis Waterfall, Diane Harsch and vocalist Dennis Harsch. Honorary bearers will be all her step grandchildren. Casket bearers will be: Milo Giesen, Jim DeBoer, Tom Hoeke, Dennis Van Asch, Michael Boeker, and Nathan Boeker.

Lola (Loof) (Hoeke) Burkholder was born June 21, 1918, at Corona, SD. She was the daughter of William and Minnie (Seabrands) Loof. She was one of seven children; all her siblings were twins.

Lola attended Garfield #1 in Roberts County and graduated from Corona High School in 1936, which was the first class to graduate. She took nurses training at Peabody Hospital in Webster, SD and became a Registered Nurse in 1941.

On November 19, 1941, she was united in marriage with Henry Hoeke. They farmed in MelroseTownship. Lola worked as a RN at St. Bernard’s Hospital in Milbank for about 26 years. They moved into Milbank in 1980. Henry passed away on June 23, 1983.

On March 23, 1999, Lola married Dr. Harold Burkholder, PhD and they moved to Hesston, KS. Dr. Burkholder passed away on January 15, 2000.

Lola was a dedicated nurse, enjoyed reading her Bible and loved to write. She made two trips abroad: one to Israel and one to China. Her greatest joys in life were her step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

Lola is survived by six step children and their spouses: Anne (Gil) Larsen of Central City, NE; John (Trudy) Burkholder of Wichita, KS; Jared (Charlene) Burkholder of Hesston, KS; Fayth (Paul) Boeker of Omaha, NE; Barb Busenitz of Benton, KS; Cynthia (Dennis) Wiens of Kansas City, KS; 20 step-grandchildren; 45 step-great grandchildren; one brother: Harold (Lois) Loof, Mesa, AZ; sister-in-law: Verlyn Loof of Milbank, SD; sister-in-law: Rose Hoeke of Milbank, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands: Henry Hoeke and Harold Burkholder; one brother: Herman Loof; and sisters: Minnie Loof, Marie DeBoer, Mabel Giesen and one sister at birth.

Fr. Celestine Pistulka

Father Celestine Pistulka age 78 formerly of Seaforth went to his eternal reward on Monday, March 16, 2009 at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 23 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church is Seaforth.

Visitation will be held 5:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday at the church, with a prayer service held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Monday. Interment is in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Celestine Charles Pistulka was born June 13, 1930 to Stephen and Susan (Bernardy) Pistulka at Seaforth, MN. Celestine was baptized, received his Holy Communion and was confirmed in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaforth. Growing up on a farm, Celestine was an altar server, and completed 8 years of grade school at Dist. 104 in Seaforth. After 6 years at Nazareth Hall he attended the St. Paul Seminary. He was ordained a Catholic priest on June 2, 1956 at the St. Paul Cathedral for the Archdiocese of St. Paul by Archbishop James J Byrne. He said his first Mass in St. Mary’s in Seaforth. In 1957 under the newly formed Diocese of New Ulm, father Celestine served parishes throughout the diocese. His first assignment was at the Church of St. Mary, New Ulm in 1957 followed by Church of St. Mary, Bechyn; Church of St. John Cantius, Wilno; Church of Immaculate Conception, St. Peter; Church of St. Mary, New Ulm; Church of St. Anthony, Watkins; Church of Our Lady Victory, Lucan; Church of St. Michael, Milroy; Church of St. Mathias, Wanda; Church of Holy Name, Vesta; Church of the Holy Redeemer, Marshall; and Divine Providence Chapel, Sleepy Eye. In 2006, he celebrated 50 years of priesthood in his home parish in Seaforth.

Father Celestine absolutely loved his priesthood, sharing the gospel, serving his people, administering the sacraments and celebrating Mass. He was a spiritual region moderator for the Council of Catholic Women and spiritual leader for Retrouvaille for married couples. He was a Knight of Columbus and a CAA member. Father Celestine had a ready smile and a good sense of humor. He loved to golf, to walk and to enjoy nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed baseball, playing cards, and was an avid reader. After retirement to Sleepy Eye, MN, he lived at Lake Villa Maria celebrating daily mass until 2008. Then he resided at Divine Providence Community Home.

Rev. Celestine Pistulka is survived by his siblings and their spouses: Rose Pistulka of Willmar; Cletus (Marlys) Pistulka of Rosemount; Felicitas Rohlik of Tucson, Arizona; Collette (Richard) Irlbeck of Redwood Falls; and Emery (Bernadine) Pistulka of Vesta, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents, his brother Cleo Pistulka, brother-in-law David Rohlik; and classmates & friends Fr. Richard Wirth and Fr. Merle Monnens.

Mrs. Edythe Buttke

Mrs. Edythe Buttke, age 92 of Milbank passed away December 9th at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 12th at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Corona. Rev. Glenn Schultz will officiate and burial will be in the Kilborn Lutheran Cemetery, near Corona.

Visitation will be Friday at Mundwiler Funeral Home from noon to 3 p.m. and continue at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to the service.

Music will be provided by Sharon Falk, organist and Tyler Buttke, vocalist. Honorary bearers will be: Valerie Barse, Brenda Butler, Michelle Schulte, Bobbi Jo Leiferman, Nancy Foss, Heidi Muellenbach, and Toni Boone. Casket bearers will be: Howard Quade, Jr., Mark Ammann, Ryan Ammann, Brian Dockter, Chris Barse, Adam Boone and Scott Butler.

Edythe Mae (Poel) Buttke was born May 7, 1917, in Dell Rapids, SD. She was the daughter of Ado and Grace (Meyer) Poel. She attended school in Corona, SD. She was united in marriage on December 30, 1937, with Anton C. Buttke.

Edythe was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was a housewife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Corona. Anton died October 12, 1981.

For the past few years, Edythe lived at Park Place in Milbank. The staff and friends she made there held a special place in her heart, and the love and care she received will not be forgotten. She considered them as part of her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Dale and wife Sharon Buttke of Corona, SD; Carolyn and husband Wayne Ammann of Wilmot, SD; and Marlene and husband Perry Dockter of Milbank, SD; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Martha Poel of Milbank, SD and Frances and husband Winford Schrader of Sisseton, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Ado and Grace; her husband: Anton; one daughter: Barbara Quade; one grandson: Jeffrey Quade; two brothers, and six sisters.

Gerdena Ladwig

Gerdena Ladwig, age 85 of Revillo passed away December 8th at Golden Living Center in Milbank.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 12th at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Revillo. Rev. Kim Kanitz will officiate and burial will be in the St. Paul’s Cemetery near Albee.

Visitation will be Friday at Mundwiler Funeral Home from 4 – 7 p.m. and continue at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to the service. The organist will be Carol Street.

Honorary bearers will be: All Her Relatives and Friends. Casket bearers will be: David and Sylvia Drake, Mike and Mary Hoffman, Mark and Cathy Sieverson.

Gerdena (Dammer) Ladwig was born June 9, 1924, in Roscoe, SD. She was the daughter of Aalf and Anna (Gertsema) Dammer. She was united in marriage with Lawrence E. Ladwig on October 22, 1946, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Albee, SD with Pastor Waltz.

Following her husband’s military duty, Gert and Lawrence lived in Montevideo, MN for five years. They moved to Vernon Township, Grant County, SD and later moved to Georgia Township and farmed together. Lawrence passed away on March 8, 1995.

Gert served many years as the head librarian for the Revillo Library. She enjoyed and cherished the friendships that were made at the library and working with all the children. She was a faithful and active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Revillo. She enjoyed crafts, reading, puzzles, and participating in the church ladies aid. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F. W. and the D.A.V. Her family will remember her kind heart that she shared with many and her love and concern for others.

Left to cherish her memory are one son and daughter-in-law: Richard and Nancy Ladwig of Barstow, CA; one granddaughter: Amy Lynn Deal of Rapid City, SD; four great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law: Sievert and Betty Dammer of Milbank, SD; one sister-in-law: Mabel and husband Tom Welchert of Enid, OK and several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son: Steven and one brother: Jake Dammer.

Darlene A. "Dolly" Hoeke

Darlene Hoeke, age 75 of Milbank passed away December 6th at the Milbank Area Hospital - Avera Health.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 10th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Father Ken Lulf will officiate and burial will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday at Mundwiler Funeral Home beginning at 5 p.m. followed by a rosary service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Thursday, one hour prior to the Mass.

Music will be provided by Nancy Johnson, organist and the St. Lawrence Funeral Choir. Honorary bearers will be the Oblates from Blue Cloud Abbey and Darlene’s grandchildren and great grandchildren. Casket bearers will be: Matt Hoeke, Jon Hanson, Drew Hanson, Sam Vetch, Brendon Hoeke, Max Vetch, Tom Lundborg, and Jeff Lundborg.

Darlene Agnes “Dolly” (Schmitt) Hoeke was born June 14, 1934, in Big Stone City, SD. She was the daughter of Raymond and Agnes (Wellnitz) Schmitt. She attended school in Milbank and graduated from Milbank High School in 1952. She was united in marriage with Clifford Ralph Hoeke on August 22, 1953.

The couple lived in Brookings, SD from 1964-1974. They moved to Minot, ND and in 1976, moved to Aberdeen, SD. They returned to Milbank in 1993.

Dolly was an active member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. She spent a lot of time volunteering at St. Lawrence Catholic School. In earlier years, Dolly worked at Milbank High School as a secretary for the principal. She worked briefly at the Mercantile. She helped with pre-marriage counseling and the SEARCH program at Sacred Heart Parish in Aberdeen and was a devoted member of the Oblates of Blue Cloud Abbey. She enjoyed making prayer shawls and stamping. Dolly enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting, knitting and embroidery. She was a proud Republican and proud of the United States of America. Her greatest joy came from her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She took delight in each one, and always tried to attend their activities. She enjoyed music and sing a longs. She enjoyed traveling, especially with her husband.

Left to cherish her memory are three sons: David Hoeke of Watertown, SD; Lyle and wife Laurie Hoeke of Milbank, SD and Scott and wife Nancy Hoeke of Milbank, SD; two daughters: Deb and husband Robin Ness of Devils Lake, ND; Sara and husband David Vetch of Lake Crystal, MN; 15 grandchildren; 5 ½ great grandchildren; one brother: Jerome and wife Rosemary Schmitt of Clark, SD and one sister: Molly and husband Fred Sweeter of Milbank, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Gerald M. Meyer

Jerry Meyer, age 34 of rural Milbank died November 20th in a vehicular accident near Castlewood.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, November 24th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Father Ken Lulf will officiate and burial will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery. Con-celebrants will be: Father Dana Christensen, Father Dan Wolfgram, Father Bob Goblirsch, and Father John McMullen.

Visitation will be Monday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church beginning at 5 p.m. followed by a scripture and rosary service at 7 p.m.

Gerald Michael Meyer was born May 17, 1975, in Milbank, SD. He was the son of Vincent and Patricia (Brandenburger) Meyer. He graduated from home school in 1993, and graduated from St. Francis Academy technical school for welding. Jerry worked for various farms, providing custom combining and over the road trucking. Jerry was united in marriage on November 26, 2005, with Bobbi Jo West.

Jerry and Bobbi Jo were blessed with two children, Bryan and Allie. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Jerry had worked as a custom welder since high school and during the past five years had turned it into a full time business as “Meyer Welding.” His business was flourishing due to Jerry’s reputation and talent as a master welder.

Jerry enjoyed spending time in tractors, especially when Bobbie Jo and their children were with him. He took great delight and pride in his family, and loved spending time with them.

Jerry is survived by his wife: Bobbi Jo; his son: Bryan and his daughter: Allie, all of rural Milbank, SD; his parents: Vincent and Patricia Meyer of rural Milbank, SD; his father –in-law and mother-in-law: Steve and Judi West of Onida, SD; two brothers: William and wife Jamie Meyer and their children: Halie, Nathaniel, and Leah all of Wilmot, SD; Ray Meyer of Milbank, SD; three sisters: Jennifer Meyer of Wilmot, SD; Rebecca and husband Rodney Thaden and daughter Natalie all of Twin Brooks, SD; Gabrielle Meyer of Milbank, SD; his grandmother: Agnes Pillatzke of Nassau, MN; a sister-in-law: Michelle and husband Tom McCullough of Carmel, IN; and grandparents: Bob and Judy Ramler of Onida, SD and Alice West of Pierre, SD.

Jerry was preceded in death by his grandparents: Donald and Margaret Meyer; Leopold Brandenburger; step grandfather: Martin Pillatzke; one uncle: Bernard Meyer; and a dear friend Lenny Yoder.

Karen Poppen

Karen Poppen, age 66 of Rogers, Arkansas, formerly of Revillo died November 18th in Rogers, Arkansas.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 25th at 2:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home. Rev. Mike Doran will officiate. Visitation will be at Mundwiler Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 – 7 p.m. and continue Wednesday, one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Albee Cemetery. The vocalist will be Della Doran.

Karen Marie (Hunt) Poppen was born March 19, 1943, in Clear Lake, SD. She was the daughter of William F. and Ursula (Evans) Hunt. She graduated from Revillo High School. Karen and Dean have been married for 47 years.

Karen worked at South Dakota State University as a secretary for 15 years. She later worked at Wal-Mart doing data entries for returned claims. Karen is a member of the RevolutionChurch in Rogers, AR.

Karen is survived by her husband, Dean of Rogers, AR; one daughter and son-in-law: Ruth and Gerry Lopez of Evansville, IN; five sisters: Janice Williams, Rita Crabb, Marlys Flores, Darlene Kaffar, and Mona Brucher; two brothers: David Hunt and Larry Hunt.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be designated to the First Love Ministries, PO Box 100, Rogers, AR 72757.

Christopher Van Sambeek

Christopher Van Sambeek, age 17 of Milbank passed away November 16th at the Ortonville Hospital. Christopher is the son of Brendan and Lynn Van Sambeek of Milbank.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 21st at 10:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Father Ken Lulf will officiate and burial will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church beginning at 5 p.m. followed by a scripture and rosary service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, one hour prior to the Mass.

Honorary bearers will be Christopher’s teachers, caretakers, students, family, and all his friends. Casket bearers will be his uncles: Richard Van Sambeek, Meredith Van Sambeek, Rodney Van Sambeek, Richard Pillatzki, Mark Pillatzki, and Keith Pillatzki.

Music will be provided by Sandy Tucholke, organist, the St. Lawrence Funeral Choir and Christina DeVaal, vocalist.

Christopher John Van Sambeek was born January 17, 1992, in Ortonville, MN. He was the son of Brendan and Lynn (Pillatzki) Van Sambeek. Christopher was disabled as an infant, but led an incredible life, touching all that met him. He was loved by his family and dear friends. He enjoyed attending Milbank Public Schools and everyone there put a smile on his face. He enjoyed watching movies and was a Minnesota Twins fan. He enjoyed visitors and especially enjoyed when people would stop and talk with him. He always liked to hold someone’s hand.

Christopher is survived by his parents, Brendan and Lynn Van Sambeek of Milbank, SD; one sister, Kimberly and one brother, Eric, both of Milbank, SD; maternal grandfather Bernard Pillatzki of Bellingham, MN and paternal grandmother, Margaret Van Sambeek of Milbank, SD and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Ellen Pillatzki and his paternal grandfather, John Van Sambeek.

Loretta E. Schmieg

Loretta Schmieg, age 83 of Milbank passed away on November 16th at the Milbank Area Hospital - Avera Health.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 20th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Father Ken Lulf will celebrate the Mass. Con-celebrants will be Father Daniel Wolfgram, Father Robert Goblirsch, Father Jack Nordick, and Father Roman Spors.

Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery at Rosen, MN. Visitation will be Thursday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church beginning at 5 p.m. followed by a scripture and rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday, one hour prior to the Mass.

Casket bearers will be her grandsons: Kevin Spors, Nathan Spors, Brandon Spors, Danny Spors, Chad Spors, Ryan Hoffman, and Josh Spors. Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren: Brian Spors, Tom Spors, Mary Pierce, Danielle Peterson, Eric Spors, Steven Spors, Heather Spors, Caitlin Voecks, Amy Zimmerman, Lisa Spors, Renee Hoffman, Kyle Hoffman, Jason Hoffman, and Ashley Spors.

Music will be provided by the St.Lawrence Funeral Choir and Nancy Johnson, organist. Loran Radermacher and Steve Karels will be the vocalists, accompanied by Sandy Tucholke.

Loretta E. (Reiffenberger) Spors Schmieg was born February 20, 1926, in Adrian, MN. She was the daughter of Lawrence and Clara (Lewis) Reiffenberger. She attended school in Adrian. She moved with her family to Rosen, MN in 1942. She was united in marriage with Lawrence Spors on June 19, 1945. Lawrence passed away in 1966, and Loretta was later united in marriage with Norman Schmieg on November 22, 1968. They moved to Milbank, SD in 1980. Norman passed away in 2001.

Loretta enjoyed gardening and canning. Her family will miss the delicious apple pies, dried apples, and bread that they all enjoyed. Over the years Loretta made many quilts and rugs. She enjoyed ceramics and baking. She loved getting together with family and friends, especially when it involved a good game of cards and a big bowl of popcorn!

Loretta is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law: Joseph and Betty Spors of Bellingham, MN; Francis and Lori Spors of Milbank, SD; Michael and Sue Spors of Bellingham, MN; Anthony and Teri Spors of Big Stone City, SD; David and Kathy Spors of Milbank, SD; two daughters: Theresa Spors of Victoria, MN; Mary and husband Kevin Hoffman of Excelsior, MN; daughter-in-law: Pauline Spors of Milbank, SD; 21 grandchildren; 5 ½ great grandchildren; two sisters: Viola Roemeling of Adrian, MN; Irene and husband Victor Stolpman of Eden Prairie, MN; three brothers: Willie Reiffenberger of Littleton, CO; Lawrence and wife Verene Rieffenberger of Watertown, SD; Raymond and wife Cecelia Reiffenberger of Sioux Falls, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Lawrence and Clara; husbands: Lawrence and Norman; one son: Jerome; three sisters: Rosie, Marie, and Esther; four brothers: Norbert, Elmer, Joseph and Lester.

Colleen G. Boehne

Colleen G. Boehne, age 58, wife of Mike Boehne of Dundas, MN unexpectedly passed away on November 13th at their lake home on Big Stone Lake.

Funeral services will be held in Minnesota.

Colleen Boehne is survived by her husband Mike of Dundas, MN; her mother: Marjorie Nepstad of Northfield, MN and one sister, Karen and husband Al Nagel of Dassel, MN.

Mundwiler Funeral Home of Milbank is in charge of the local arrangements for Colleen G. Boehne.

Dorothea Hanson

Dorothea Hanson, age 107, of Wilmot died October 27th at the Wilmot Care Center.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31st at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot. Rev. DeVern Schwenn will officiate and burial will be in the Wilmot Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday, one hour prior to the services, at the church.

The organist will be Neoma Ballhagen.

Honorary bearers will be her nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Casket bearers will be: Barbara Hanson Solkowski, Jean Hanson Staszak, Don Kuper, Norman Kuper, Gordon Hippen, Morris Tietjen, Robert Tietjen, Harold and Paula Thaden.

Dorothea (Hippen) Hanson was born June 19, 1902, in Ames, Iowa. She was the daughter of William and Mary (Jurgens) Hippen. She attended school in Lennox, SD, and moved to Wilmot with her family in 1918. She was united in marriage on December 22, 1924, with William Hanson in Wilmot. They lived in Milwaukee, WI for 27 years, where William was employed at Clark Oil and Refining Company.They moved to Osakis, MN and lived there for five years, returning to Wilmot in 1967, to retire. William died on November 25, 1989.

Dora was an active member of the First Persbyterian Church in Wilmot. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. She also enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and sewing, making many of her own clothes.

Dororthea is survived by one daughter-in-law: Audrey Hanson of Wauwatosa, WI; two granddaughters: Barbara (Hanson) and husband David Solkowski of Milwaukee, WI; Jean (Hanson) and husband Chris Staszak of Ft. Collins, CO; two great grandsons: Zachary Solkowski and Kevin Solkowski; two sisters-in-law: Teresa Hippen of Sisseton, SD; Stella Keeling of Spokane, WA and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Mary; her husband: William; one son: Donald; four brothers: John (Rosella) Hippen, Harm (Lena) Hippen, Bill Hippen and Henry Hippen; seven sisters: Lena (Fred) Muller; Bertha (Herman) Buss; Grace (Herman) Kuper; Mary (Charles) Babb; Nancy (Stanley) Anderson; Margaret (John) Tietjen; Ella (Omar) Hill.

Violet A. Rise

Violet Gertsema Rise, age 91, of Milbank died October 4th at St. William’s Care Center in Milbank. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 7th at 10:30 a.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home. Rev. DeVern Schwenn will officiate and burial will be in the Milbank Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Music will be provided by Tim Mundwiler, vocalist. Casket bearers will be Violet’s nephews and friends.

Violet Amy (Opperud) Gertsema Rise was born August 9, 1918, in Marion, ND. She was the daughter of Arthur and Doris (Hugget) Opperud. She attended school in Roslyn, SD. She was united in marriage on September 1, 1940, with Henry Gertsema. They were blessed with one son, DeWayne. Violet was an active member of Central United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for 28 years. She worked several years at Liebe Drug.

Violet enjoyed traveling and was thrilled to have visited Norway, Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada. Henry died in September of 1989. She was united in marriage on September 5, 1997, with John Rise. They have continued to reside in Milbank.

Violet is survived by her husband, John of Milbank; four sisters: Maxine Pitts of LaMars, IA; Joyce Watters of Rochester, MN; Dorothy Dargatz of Wichita, KS; and Marilyn and husband Floyd Horne of Oklahoma City, OK; two brothers: Clifford Opperud of Cincinnati, OH; Carl Opperud of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry and son DeWayne.

Robert R. “Robbie” Hanson

Robert R. “Robbie” Hanson, age 25 of Milbank passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2009 in Sioux Falls.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 30th at the Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Robbie Hanson was born December 29, 1983, in Milbank to Rick and Cheryl Hanson. He grew up and attended school in Milbank and received his GED in 2006.

He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved playing in the yard as a child. His favorite hobby was snowmobiling every change he could. He loved to joke around and have a good time. He especially loved the apple of his eye, his daughter, Cierra.

Robbie is survived by his wife, Katie and daughter, Cierra of Montevideo; father Rick (Brenda) Hanson of Milbank; mother Cheryl (Keven) Boogaard of Odessa; sister, Presley Boogaard of Odessa; brother, Chad (Corrina) Hanson of Nassau; step-sisters, Shannon Job of St. Cloud and Leisha Job of Milbank; paternal grandmother, Margaret Hanson of Milbank; maternal grandmother, Blanche Westermeyer of Big Stone City; and by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Cole Boogaard, his paternal grandfather, Sever Hanson and his maternal grandfather, Lewis Westermeyer.
