Roy was born to Josephine and Charles Anderson on April 25, 1906, on Brave Bull Creek in Jackson County in a log home that his parents built and which is still standing today after nearly 100 years.

He made his home with his brother, George, and his wife, Marie, for a number of years on the original homestead. Shortly thereafter, he, George, and another brother, Charles, formed a ranching partnership. Around the 1950s, he bought his own ranch south of Midland and continued to be a successful rancher until he retired. He bought a small home in Midland in 1980 and sold his ranch to an old friend of the family.

Roy was active in the Senior Citizens Center, Lutheran Church and other community activities in Midland. He was the last charter member of the original Midland Lutheran Church. Roy had a gentle and loving nature and made many, many friends throughout his life.

He loved little children, and since he never married, he became a great favorite with the children of the Midland community and his many nieces and nephews. He was always "the favorite uncle." At any event, he could be found making whistles out of willow branches for the little ones.

Roy moved into Westhills Village Retirement Community when it first opened and had his own apartment for 10 years, until he moved into the new assisted-living facility Westhills South. He had been at the Health Care Facility at Westhills for the past two years until his death.

He is survived by one sister, Josephine Linquist, Sioux City, Iowa; 12 nieces and nephews, James (Bud) Oberembt, Helena, Mont., Theresa Robinson, Great Falls, Mont., James (Jim) Fahy, Olivet, Rita (Midge) Gossman, Rapid City, George Anderson Jr., Midland, Jean Anderson, Spearfish, Karen Grothen, Medicine Lake, Wash., Mark Linquist and Lee Linquist, both of Sioux City, Iowa, Chuck Anderson, Casper, Wyo., Mary Ziegler, Martin, and Marla Anderson, Rapid City.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at Behrens Mortuary, and for one hour before services at the church in Midland.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church of Midland with the Rev. Paul Bly officiating.

Burial will follow at Midland Cemetery.
